I’ve been retired six years. I go fishing and hunting in the middle of the week. No crowds. I do things with family on weekends when they are off from work. Other than that, every day is Saturday! Do what you want. I’ve just started taking wildlife photos. Sometimes while driving in the WMA’s I’ve never been to, sometimes from my trusty favorite tree stand because you can see just about anything in the woods and the season is always open. Good luck and enjoy yourself.

It is becoming more apparent every day that one choice was a lot worse than the other one.

Looks like people who got the shot have no reason to be concerned...

Definitely, I made a suggestion yrs ago to put a M60 every 600 yds in a tower, fire on the first few across, the rest would take the hint.

The AC-130 has got to be one of the most versatile planes ever designed.... sure got their moneys worth out of that airframe.

Saw a lot in 'Nam I'll never forget, but the most amazing thing was "Puff The Magic Dragon" gunship. This was an AC47 modified with 2 General Electric miniguns in the left side of the plane. Capable of sending 6000 rds per minute to the ground ( usually 300 ). I could literally rain unholy hell down on the enemy. My first & only encounter was one Sun. nite, after we had been in a firefight all weekend. Finally finished that, just as we were getting ready to rest for the nite , we were ordered to go to the base of a mountain where B Co. was in a firefight in a village. We were to be a blocking force to prevent B Co from getting caught in a cross fire. Shortly, Puff showed up, and rained down fire on the enemy. One solid stream of fire from plane to the ground. Every 5 rds was a tracer. I'd heard about Puff during Infantry training, but this was simply awesome to see. Later, mods have been made. Now there is even a Howlitzer. I had to drive to Cookeville this morning, and any time I go through there I stop at Outdoor Junction. Was looking for some scope lens caps, which I didn't find, but they had a pretty good selection of powder and projectiles today. No primers, though. I've been looking for H1000 for loading 338 ammo for some time. They had several pound containers of Accurate Magpro. I've not used it before, but took a risk and bought two pounds to try out. There were quite a few of the RX powders on the shelf along with some of the Hodgdon powders. I didn't try to note everything there, but they had LilGun among others. Quite a bit of projectiles, too, including some too-expensive Barnes bullets.

The Smithsonian Channel (Dish TV channel 367) has been running shows on different airframes and covered the AC130 Specter Gunship in action. You ought to check it out.

That may have crossed my mind I'm of half a mind to call up and see if I can change my decision but, meh... The msrp of the gun is 250. I do still have some ammo for it and no other guns in the same calibre.

Depending on how much trouble it would be, I'd want it back just to be a PITA to New York. My FIL was the head of security for a local grocery store chain. On day many years ago a real pro decided to rob his store. The guy had done his homework and knew who my FIL was. He came in, got a cart and proceeded to act like a regular customer. Came up behind my FIL and without any warning knocked him out cold! He took a 2" Model 10 from my FIL, went up front and robbed the store. Some 20 years later, FIL got a call from the Sheriff's Dept saying his gun had been recovered. He got it back and it was in surprisingly good shape.

My view, all of the stuff I read about WLP came from the same media that I do not trust anyway. My perception, people just regurgitate others or the media, not first hand knowledge. I don't know what to believe. I do question the credibility of any information during the same time the NRA is being attacked like never before in its history, this causes me to question everything. The spin factor is full on. I do know, if WLP cared about the NRA, I mean truly cared like you and I would, knowing all of the negative news and the perception what appears to be large swath in membership has of his poor performance and taking to much funds for his life style, factual or not, WLP should resign immediately for the health of the NRA, take one for the team. If he has that much of an ego, make him a emeritus or something if you have to, just remove him from a very public leadership role. I am confident he has achieved enough to retire comfortably for rest of his life. We need a powerful and healthy NRA now and in the near foreseeable future with the full assault that is occurring on the organization. The left is relentless, we need the same relentless from the NRA, with leadership, and members. A house divided will not stand (Matt. 12-25). Life Member!

If you run into one asshole during the day, it happens and they were probably just an asshole. If you run into assholes all day long, you’re the asshole.

My dad flew combat missions with the EC-47 in Vietnam. It was unarmed, but a huge target because the NVA and Cong feared the AC-47, which by that time they were effectively knocking out of the sky. He often flew with AC-130s and said the firepower those unleashed was incredible. He had a huge problem with crew members/CIA intelligence operatives shooting M-16s wildly out of the plane drawing fire to it (his plane was shot up several times including a forced landing) so he had ALL weapons removed from his aircraft except the .38 S&Ws carried by him, the co-pilot and navigator. Keep in mind, his missions were to locate and follow NVA field commanders moving along the Ho Chi Minh trail in Laos & Cambodia so that they could be neutralized. Ineffectively firing upon them was counter to the objective and dangerous to his plane and crew.

My childhood was trying to stay awake during Dads slide shows of photos of countries I did not recognize and would likely never visit taken from the window of a C-130. He rarely talked about the specifics of what his job entailed but I did occasionally get a story out of him. One of the better ones was of the steep spiral descents and landings they did into a ridiculously short runway carved into a bowl shaped valley in the mountains of Vietnam. Apparently it was short enough that taking back off light was sketchy. Taking off with any sort of cargo/weight required JATO. He did that a few times and said it was, interesting.

I understand you. Medically retired in 2011. Really didn't like it, but I had no choice at the time. It was fun for a while. Then I began to get bored...with everything. Various hobbies came and went. Spent a LOT of time on here. That was, and still is, good. But as the years go by, those issues that led me here are starting to cause me more physical restrictions. It sucks. But still here. God isn't thru with me yet. There must be something I'm meant to do.

I really identified with my job, and I thought there would be a long adjustment period when I retired. Well, that adjustment period took as long as the walk from my desk to the gate. I've never looked back, never missed it, and never been bored. I should have retired at 25!

Was going to say the same thing, only not nearly as eloquent and succinct. Really depends what you're looking for. Nashville is a big city, its sphere of influence is easily 2-3 hours drive. EastTN itself has different character between Knoxvegas and the Phar East. Never been further west, so can't comment.

Welcome neighbors! As the three stars on our state flag indicate, we have three distant regions in our state. If you like mountains, the only free fee National Park in the nation (Great Smokies Mountains), lakes, and of course Dollywood and Pigeon Forge for the kids, then it East Tennessee. Middle Tennessee is great also with the Nashville vibe and gentle rolling hills. West Tennessee is flat, hot in summer but then there is Memphis, bbq, and if you like to roll the dice it’s near.

Dang you guys! I was in Crossville yesterday and stopped in an Antique store with my wife. Saw a couple of the Camillus Marine fighting knives and ended up picking up one of them. Camillus had the primary contract to make the MK II knife for the Navy and the Marines in WW II, through the Vietnam War and afterwards. It’s the same knife as the famous KABAR. I really have no idea why the KABAR is the more famous knife, other than there were fewer made. Anyway, this is a commercial version made in the 90s Or early 2000s. And before you ask, I’m a fan of Camillus knives. They were a great American knife company before mismanagement caused them to go under in 2007. edit: Figured it out!

The Fairbairn-Sykes has always been a favorite of mine but originals were crazy expensive even when I was a kid, so I got this Gerber Mark II in 1981.

Recently bought a G-45, and then found a sale on Pmags. Today I got around to loading the first one. For some reason I could only get 17 rounds into it, no matter how I tried, despite using a Maglula loader. FINALLY, I realized that they were 17 rounders. Lord, getting old has it's challenges.
