When they aren't being a nuisance, Opossums aren't bad to have around. I read recently they eat up to 4,000 ticks a week and they are not carriers of rabies.6 points

Close. 1951. Specifically, it's a 1951 Pontiac Chieftan Super Deluxe painted in Malibu Ivory. How, you might ask, do I know what color it is? The 1951 Super Deluxe was only available in Malibu Ivory or Sapphire Blue. It could be all one color, or have a contrasting roof in any combination of those 2 colors. Since the roof is darker than the body, this one must be Malibu Ivory with a Sapphire Blue top. The reverse color-scheme of this car:4 points

She’ll be o.k. I just think it’s a shame healthy people get an ultimatum from their employer to get a shot that makes them sick or be fired.3 points

Do you have someone you trust you can talk to about it? I have two people who I literally trust my life to. They both told me the same thing your doctor did. “Moderna if you have a choice, whatever you can get if you don’t. Don’t give it another thought cycle.” I got it within 24 hours of it being available to me. I’m quite low risk - but I deal with risk for a living. It has contributed to killing one out of every 500 people in America at this point. I’ve got people I need to take care of. You can walk into any Publix in the state and get the first Moderna shot in the time it takes to get a loaf of bread and a gallon of milk. Feel free to PM if you’ve got questions.3 points

Picked this up this weekend too... it's a Mk I Martini Henry Carbine. Looking to find the parts to reassemble it. I need the fore grip, barrel bands, and rear sight. If I have to go reproduction, that's ok. I plan on getting this redone and checked out to see if it's still able to shoot. Ammo isn't cheap, but how often do you get to shoot one of these?2 points

Hispanic and African-Americans are traditional Dem voters and have some of the lowest vaccination rates. It's not just Conservatives saying "no".2 points

I had a brisket on the smoker the other evening and went out to check the firebox about 11:30. Had one literally brush up against my leg as it walked through the fence coming to see what time dinner was happening. I didn’t hear it because the grass was wet and it was raining. It really surprised me by how brazen it was - or maybe it was just drawn to the brisket like everyone else. It wasn’t the least bit concerned with me. In fact, it stood up on its hind legs sort of looking at the smoker and then at me for a minute or two. I went in and eventually it moved on. I’m just thankful my dog didn’t get ahold of it.2 points

So when you catch the neighbor’s cat, you can just turn it back out without explaining why it’s leg is broken.2 points

Wolf piss collector = veterinarian. Darting the wolf is the hard part. And I agree with the live trap option. Dad's trapped a bunch of raccoons, a couple possums, and one skunk with a TSC trap and cat food.2 points

I've been meaning to take a picture of mine for a long time. Just never got around to it. This thread has prompted me to get off my butt, dig 'em out of the safe and do just that. Left to right: Browning 1886 SRC .45-70 Winchester 94 .30-30 Winchester 9422 .22LR Winchester 94 Trapper .45 Colt Winchester 94 Trapper .44 magnum Rossi 92 Trapper .357 Magnum.2 points

I have Henry rifles in .357, .44 and 45/70. My .22 Henry sees more range time due to ammo costs.1 point

My 45/70 makes an "impression " on my shoulder as well. Actually, once it made a bruise that matched the imprint of the recoil pad. Lasted about 3 days. After 20 shots.1 point

My comment about growing/raising in your back yard is a bit more a conceptual than literal. I am speaking to items that are possible to grow in a yard/field, harvest it, and bring it to your table with your own hands. I could raise livestock and process it with traditional methods if I was so inclined. I am not going to grow kiwi in my back yard but if my climate was suitable I could without conducting a science experiment. What I can't do is extract and refine palm oil in my shed. I can't produce High Fructose Corn Syrup in my kitchen easily. And as for your own personal yard... You just have to figure out what it needs. I no longer have a garden since I would have to build rabbit and deer proof barriers at the new house but when I did I did not plant in the ground I built raised beds with carefully cultured soil that mixed from numerous compost sources and other organic material. You can do raised beds or simply amend what you have if you determine what is lacking.1 point

There are a lot of 10/22 owners that have built their own left-handed versions from available receivers. Example: https://www.tacticalinc.com/catalog/category/606/19431 point

Morning Everyone, I wanted to post one of our upcoming classes. As of right now I teach all class that we offer (Shane Kerwin). The below flyer should cover all the posting information. Moderators, if it doesn't and I need post it in a different way, just let me know. We want to make sure we are following the prescribed criteria. We will also have our company logo on a banner soon. Hope to see you on the range. Shane1 point

Can't see a (an?) opossum being the culprit, they would more likely eat the eggs or chicken feed than get a chicken. I don't have any chickens but this guy would visit my garden regularly and would just saunter away when I approached him. Could have dispatched him with a stick if I really wanted to.1 point

Problem with a guitar case is that it's a high theft toy. No one was a racket.1 point

That would work for some folks, but a guy like me would look more out of place carrying a tennis racket bag than a gun case. Around here, a guitar case would he the obvious solution, but then again, a gun case rarely raises an eyebrow in the places I tend to frequent.1 point

I would start with .22 just so you can afford to shoot it a lot. Then if you get hooked you can start adding more. I currently have 4 Marlins and 1 Henry. I started with a .410 that was a gift when I was 13. I then inherited a .22. I added a .357 to go with a revolver I had and so I could shoot the cheaper .38s in it. Then I added a 30-30 just because I wanted something bigger for no real good reason. My latest add was the Henry in a .22 Mares Leg just for fun.1 point

A possum is too slow and way too stupid to be a predator. Years ago when I was working with the Cub Scouts we had a district camp event. I got a live possum from animal control to display for the kids. When it was over, I took the cage to the edge of the woods, opened the door and walked away. Two hours later I returned for the cage and that idiot possum was still sitting in it. Too dumb to walk out the open door. I had to pick up the cage and shake him out. I had a Wildlife Officer tell me that possum is so nasty and greasy that predators won't touch 'em unless absolutely starving. Their only natural enemy is a car.1 point

I've caught several possums and coons using a live trap I got at TSC. Came with a large trap & a small. I used the large with canned cat food as bait. Meat works also. .22 short to the top of the head eliminates the problem permanent.1 point

Racoon, not possum. I've studied this in depth through placing trail cams in my coop. I've also locked possums in my coop just to prove a point and have never had an issue. Possums are incredibly lazy, and have poor eyesight, making them lousy predators. They are extremely talented in finding carrion, also they aren't generally scared of people especially when eating. As such, it's common to walk up on a possum eating a chicken that a raccoon killed and left. Possums will eat eggs, and I wouldn't trust them around chicks. But, I have yet to see any hard evidence (videos) of a possum actively killing a healthy chicken.1 point
