This kind of thing just makes me nuts. (See AuEagle's post above.) We have PHD's on both sides of the issue giving us opposing information, and all of it seems reasonable to me. One group of smart people telling me that the virus originated in a lab in Wuhan. Another group of smart people telling me that it's unlikely. One group of smart people telling me a paper mask is going to help alleviate spread of the virus (which I find implausible), another group telling me paper masks are going to save us all. We have Dr. Fauci telling us that masks aren't going to do anything, and few months later suggesting we wear two. We have candidates Joe Biden and Kamela Harris telling us they don't trust the "Trump" vaccine, but President Biden and Vice President Harris tell us that taking the vaccine is mandatory. Our "scientific experts" and the political class really should get their act together and stop confusing the issue with contradictory proclamations every fourth day!

Yep, its one of many examples in our world today, but the moment "the science" was used to shut down debate, rather than foster it, I became aware of the true nature of this whole shebang. I feel sorry for those that are blinded to reality by their own psychology. I get that accepting the reality of our world today can be painful, but the clue-bat hits pretty hard when it finally makes contact. Accepting it now or denying it later, doesn't change the fact that it is what it is. Shrug... I've come to accept that some people don't want to change their version of reality. Plato's shadows is a great allegory here. You can't read that and not think of whats happening today. Written thousands of years ago. People never change.

Problem is, the people who are supposed to be guiding this with science have been contaminated with political activism. I'm talking the FDA, CDC, and that sawed off little Cockwomble. Nobody knows who to trust, and everybody knows that some drugs have been forbidden because they were mentioned by some politician. The politicians and scientists with their thumbs on the scale should be going to prison. Getting vaccinated has always been a no brainer to me. It was the easiest way to fight those assholes.

We had an Engineman reenlist while we were in the war zone and because of bonuses he was paid something like $12,000 and tax free. When we pulled into Yokosuka he got it all in MPCs, put it in a small duffle bag and went partying. He and everyone with him had a really good time but he woke up the next morning on the boat with no duffle bag. He asked everyone that was with him that night but no one had any idea where he'd left it. He borrowed some money and went back into town to drink away his sorrows but when he walked into the Star Light bar (submarine bar) the Japanese bartender started jumping up and down, laughing and waving his duffle bag at him. There was no way to really know if it was all there but appeared to be.

I don't know if the data is insufficient or not. There's good, bad & ugly info on both sides of the vax. What I know is personal, family, & friends experience with this flu. I'm glad you & others got the jab, I hope you & the others get as many subsequent boosters that you feel necessary, one every month if you like. This is freedom to do as one see's fit. All I care is that no one tries to force me or my loved ones to get it, that's all. I also hope anyone who got the jab has no bad reactions.

I've known several folks with part of the alphabet after their name, that couldn't find the front porch. Education & intelligence don't always go hand in hand. People believe whatever supports their opinion. Kinda like doctor shopping.

I was always fascinated by foreign currency as a kid. Slight bent toward numismatics I guess, but was just 'neat' seeing the different shapes, sizes, colors, and designs of international currency. Great gift to bring back from a trip for a kid. Here's 32-cents worth of foreign bills and coins, and a magnifying glass. Kept me busy for hours!

One recollection related to MPS's, still pees me off to this day. After I was wounded, taken to the aid station, some asshat(s), stole $175 in MPC I had saved up for R&R. Took everything except my wedding ring. Didn't know till weeks later when I finally got a chance to go thru my bags. Thru Senator Baker, the Army replaced the money. Takes a special kind of SOB to do that.

The first half is right. Somebody needs to bring more evidence on Ivermectin and Hydroxychloroquine. Fact is though, these "vaccines" won't do effective eradication. And, I can be a spreader. Last I checked, India stopped using Ivermectin as a treatment. Not a good endorsement.

I am vaccinated (J&J). If I get covid, I am going to have mild to NO symptoms. But I am going to be plenty contagious. THAT was the point of that post. Maybe you should yell at somebody else. The POINT is that the vaccines don't directly stop the spread. The proper statement would probably be that the jabbed are part of the problem. People need the damn shot.

I don't store a firearms in my car. Those days are long gone, if it was ever a good idea. If one obeys our stupid gun laws here, there are times when some folks temporarily leave a gun inside a car. I'm talking about attending events at venues that ban guns. Personally, I try very hard to just avoid these venues, but there are times...for example, the US Post Office. For those that might not think twice about carrying past a gun ban sign, there are certain places where doing so could cost you way more than your HCP. So what is one to do, be unarmed during the commute or temporarily leave a gun inside the locked vehicle? I have a lock box in my vehicle attached to a metal cable attached to my car for such an event. I know its not really secure, but I think it might slow down a thief long enough to deter a smash and grab. I wouldn't ever leave a gun in it for long.

I'm glad you mentioned those two criteria! I can't tell you how many times "Carry Options (Holster Availability)" has put a damper on, or just flat ruined, an otherwise great handgun for me. And aftermarket support is incredibly important as well. In fact, I would wager that these two things have stopped some excellent handguns from seeing widespread adoption among law enforcement agencies. Thanks for the kind words.

As one whom has had multiple conversations with gun grabbers, y'all need to learn that they associate guns with crime, no questions asked. "If he only hadn't had a gun", they like to say. In their twisted "logic", they believe a firearm magically changes a honor student Boy Scout into a mass murderer somehow. Doesn't matter the individual, as long as he/she owns a firearm they're a future school or mall shooter in their minds. Of all the ones I've asked whom were gun grabbers, none had a grand-dad or dad or uncle take them shooting with a .22 as a kid. In short, they never got to experience the wonderful side of learning to shoot as a kid. As a result, guns remained a mystery unless the media has "educated" them on how horrible and evil guns are. All those "news" shows whom have been shown to be blatantly lying about their segments after they aired, the gun grabbers believe whole heartedly. Movies with planes being shot down with a single shot from a snub nose also plays into their phobia. I've also had multiple gun grabbers tell me how they "couldn't control their emotions, they'd end up shooting someone if they owned a gun". Therefor if THEY can't control their emotions, by extension, WE can't control ours either. Therefor guns need to be banned. Of course they always bring up the old lie about "owning a gun means you're 43 times more likely to be shot with your own gun" bull manure. This has been debunked repeatedly, but they keep using it as if it's accurate. And they always bring up the "why do you need a machine gun to deer hunt?" horse manure. I loved pointing out the aftermath of Katrina, where the cops walked off their jobs to go take care of their own families, leaving the public to fend for themselves. They were always speechless when I asked them which one of their siblings or grown kids they would be ok with being murdered since they couldn't defend themselves? Or how many women is it ok to be raped since men are larger & stronger than women? They never reply to any of those. Last summer's riots all across the US has also spurred many of them to buy their first gun. I worked a gun shop last year from Mar to Oct. I can't can't the number of people who told me they were buying their first gun because they were scared the cops would be off sick with the china flu. Sadly, I doubt if a single one voted for anyone other than another gun grabbing politician. There is a long, long, list of politicians & celebrities who decry firearms ownership but run around with armed security. One in particular, Samantha Bee of the TBS show, led a protest of bringing inner city kids to her neighborhood school. On her show she trashes everything conservative without let-up. Hypocrite first class. Former columnist Carl Rowan, Sr was famous for never failing to love a gun ban. Then he shot a "teen" who scared him when he came home one night & a bunch of "teens" were partying in his backyard pool. Nor was Rowan ever charged with an illegal gun, as he failed to have a DC license to own. Hypocrite. Almost without fail, a gun grabber will mention the words "I feel" during their anti-gun rant. It's never the words "logic", "reason" or something similar. It's always about the "feelz" with them. I also enjoy asking them if they have a sign in their yard saying "Home owner owns no firearms"? They always say no to that & I tell them they lack the courage of their convictions. They never answer to that. Ask a gun grabber if you can take them to the projects one night, drop them off & meet them 2-3 miles away. See what they say to that.

While I agree with you that securing your firearms is a mater of personal responsibility, and one should be personally obligated to do so, I definitely do place the blame for theft on thieves, where it belongs. I don't leave my guns unsecured in my car, and I think its irresponsible to do so. I also keep the bulk of my guns at home security in safes, as well. Blaming the gun owner for theft kinda seems like blaming the girl that got raped on being attractive and wearing what society these days considers fashionable clothes...

I know I am in the minority, but there is a soft spot in my heart for sporterized milsurp rifles. They represent a time in America where folks did what they had to to feed the family. I love ingenuity born out of necessity.

And the answer is 30-06 after all. Cerrosafe plug measured out pretty close to the 30-06 chamber dimensions so I rechecked with everything stripped. Apparently there was some interference with the butchered stock that was keeping the bolt handle slightly up and not showing a difference between the go and no go gauges. With the stripped bolt and the action out of the stock there is a clear difference. It is actually slightly tight but acceptable on the go gauge. Now I have to decide if I am going to re inlet and refinish the stock, strip and refinish the barreled action, and "restore" the gun to pretty but sporterized condition. Or do I adjust the stock, clean, lube, and reassemble in rough beater gun condition and use it as a truck gun for quick after work deer hunting trips.

The SPECIFICATION for the 1917 is .300" bore, five .005" deep grooves - a .310" groove diameter if you have a 5 point micrometer for your slug. Lands and grooves are the same width which led Col Hatcher to conclude it is actually "tighter" than Springfield rifling .300/.308" but with grooves three times as wide as lands. By that standard, a WWII two groove barrel is tighter still. SAAMI specifies the rifling plan for each cartridge but also has a minimum bore-groove cross sectional area so as to avoid tolerance stacking and to allow for off brand barrels.

How many times do I have to say it? Every Police Officer I've ever asked has said the the overwhelming majority of stolen gun reports they do have the firearm stolen out of a vehicle. Don't leave guns in vehicles!

I don't think you'll have much to worry about in terms of the optic itself, but if it's going to be stored in the heat or the cold - I'd choose lithium batteries over alkaline.

It was enough for fish tacos - and my personal favorite - old Florida style smoked fish dip. The thing about it I love the most is all the kids that we’ve traveled with all the years have come to love the evening when we have a giant dinner of fish tacos with all the fixings. It’s cool to hear them pray and give thanks and really understand God’s blessings.

I swear they’re low key the industry’s R&D department. If it was revealed that the big US manufacturers all threw them some coin to keep them afloat, I wouldn’t be surprised. I swear selling guns is a side business to coming up with goofy #### that will be a hit a decade or more down the road.
