  1. I received my first shot yesterday. No side effects so far other than some shot arm soreness. My symptoms are subsiding as well. Still can’t smell anything and have some chest soreness but I’m thankful to be on the other side of it!

  2. https://www.cnn.com/2021/09/01/us/texas-open-carry-laws/index.html The link above is to a CNN article on their website about the new Texas law allowing Constitutional Carry. I often go to CNN for the "opposing" view, and this article is a shining example of skewed journalism. It doesn't take to long to read, so draw your own conclusions, but it makes me nuts when journalists say "research shows" or "experts say". The "experts" they quote and gun-control organizations and they call them "gun-violence prevention organizations." The article also states that in Texas protesters had long guns aimed at them, but nothing could be done. Baloney! We all know that it's illegal to threaten people with a weapon.

  3. That surplus stock had some quite unsightly holes in it that needed filling. They’ve been sufficiently filled.

  4. Sounds like they could have made the best of it and changed from a music festival to mud-wrestling and tractor-pulls. It's all entertainment.

  5. Pictures are starting to come out showing why they had to cancel Bonnaroo. Apparently nearly every vehicle had to be towed out with tractors.

  8. I wanted to build a Shughart M-14 because if you’re gonna have one, it might as well be one modeled off the one used by one of the baddest men to wield it. I started with this M-14 clone from Bula Defense. Mounted an ARMS-18 optics rail and an Aimpoint CompM. I then acquired a surplus M-14 fiberglass stock. The army boys sure do love their duct tape. Once I got it stripped down, it was time to paint! As it sits now, it’s in what I refer to as the “movie configuration” ad it’s similar to what was used in the Black Hawk Down film. The CompM will end up coming off and being used on a retro AR build using the original hi-rise optic mount (carry handle gang gang). As of now there are a couple of bits that are either on the way, or requiring a little detailed work to mount. (Waiting on rings for my Aimpoint 5000 and the AIM-1/D needs a tape switch fabricated for it.) Updates to follow as the build is adjusted/completed.

  9. I don't like this. It looks like Tennessee could be getting a lot of rain from this in the middle of next week. Ida could make landfall as a Category 4 hurricane on Sunday when it hits the Gulf Coast with maximum winds of 140 mph, according to the latest forecast from the National Hurricane Center. Projected to become a Category 4 hurricane, the storm would strike 16 years to the day since Hurricane Katrina made landfall there as a Category 3 storm with 125 mph winds near the riverside community of Buras in Plaquemines Parish. https://www.foxnews.com/us/hurricane-idas-strength-forces-mandatory-evacuations-in-louisiana

  10. That's what I thought too. Things are changing. Some science, some politics, and some things pulled right out of their butts.

  12. Literally the first time I've used my shotgun since opening day last year! I got just short of a limit at 13, in Bledsoe country over a cut wheat field. Not as many guns as last year (I think maybe 35 a compared to 120+) Had great action from 12 to 12:30 then hit the usual afternoon lull until 4. It took me a full box to bag my first, but after that I averaged 3 shells to a bird. Still making it the most expensive game meat there is! I may try to get out Saturday afternoon as well, but I don't know of any local fields worth the drive.

  13. I try to read CNN's website daily because I want rounded information. Just as CNN has an obvious leftist slant, so Fox has an obvious slant to the right. I figure the more information I get from as many sources as possible the better I can make informed decisions, not that it seems to do much good to vote. The one I just can't read is MSNBC.

  16. That is part of the story. The tractors that they were using to pull out the cars were also getting stuck. A friend was a volunteer worker and shared pictures Tuesday of a tractor buried nearly to the axle, another tractor stuck trying to pull it out, and a third tractor trying to get one or both of the first two out. It was an absolute mud pit.

  17. Reminds me of a hare scramble race we put on at my buddy's farm. There were motorhomes buried to the frame. Some were drug out with a dozier.

  18. We got kicked out of the country club we held our reception at. Apparently the mgmt was not aware of how Catholics party at a wedding reception. The first time we drank the bars out of alcohol they got nervous but made a supply run. The second time we drank the bars out of alcohol they had had enough and told us to get out. No one called the cops and no one got arrested though.

  23. Got the cath out Monday and doing well. Not a lot of pain at all. Cath was a real bother. Now hoping for good results. Dr said we will know in a month. Got some residual swelling but should go away in 2 to 3 weeks and things will be back to as normal as possible. So far, I would recommend the Resume procedure and for sure if good results happen.

  24. Early on in my career, someone told me something that's stuck with me for a lot of years. There is no them. Even if there was some organized cabal - they're just not smart enough to pull anything off on that kind of scale. Rephrased - never assign to malice what can reasonably be attributed to incompetence.

  29. Story Short version: Memphis cops get called to a wedding venue at 10pm. 20-30 different people were involved in multiple fights outside in the parking lot. (Alcohol was no doubt involved, IMO.) Cops began arresting the outstanding citizens & then the bride went off the rails, attacking the cops herself. She was arrested for biting one of them on the shoulder. So she got to spend her wedding night in the pokey instead of Motel 6. Man, I NEVER get invited to the cool weddings!

  34. Daughter's wedding had 2 or 3 kegs and a couple of those mini pocket rocket motorcycles thrown into the mix. Was held at a friend of the grooms house, so... IIRC, one pocket rocket cycle did not survive. LOL
