One of my favorite sports is giving a fast food cashier $21.10 for an order that is $16.08. Talk about bringing the operation to a screeching halt.6 points

Empire needs a mass firing. All they accomplish is their own personal wealth. Maybe if you start with a bunch of first term folks, they will accomplish a little of the peoples' work.6 points

It’s essentially this. America has really never been homogeneous. But, with 330 million+ people we’re made up of a ton of different people groups - different races, ethnicities, urban folks, rural folks, different socioeconomic backgrounds. America is more of a melting pot today than it’s ever been. And when you get elected - regardless of the rhetoric that got you elected - now you work for everybody. And all of those different constituencies can make your job easier or harder in a way that’s different than you experienced on the campaign trail - and no one can prepare you for that. Then there’s the fact that you’re really constrained when you’re in office - both by the incredibly finite time that is 4 years - and by the decisions that have been made before you got here. Let’s take those two separately. First, time. You get 1461 days. That’s seems like a long time - but it’s not. Our last administration really didn’t understand how short of a time 4 years is. You behave differently when you know the end is near. But the second is really constraining - in that you’re bound by the decisions of the past. Take the debt limit talks were currently in. As much political theater as we turn these talks into every couple years - they have exactly zero bearing on our future legislation or actions. Raising the debt limit is all about servicing the debt associated with decisions of Congresses past Raising the debt limit isn’t about continued spending - it’s about whether or not we as a country want to pay our credit card bill. That’s not an apples to apples analogy - because the government budget isn’t actually like a family budget - but the comparison holds here. Then there’s the fact that our Congress is almost completely unwilling and is increasingly incapable of doing anything of consequence. Add to that our zero sum politics (that is for something to be good for me it must necessarily be bad for you) and it’s really hard to get much done. Take for example Representative Madison Cawthorn. For the current Congress he doesn’t have a single legislative staff member - choosing instead to “focus on messaging.” This might be great if you like seeing him “stick it to the libs” on NewsMax, but it doesn’t do much for folks in his district. So, take a dysfunctional Congress, and it doesn’t matter what your ambitions are when you take office. It really doesn’t matter what you campaigned on. You’re more or less constrained to managing a system that’s already in motion. Really smart politicians realize early that they maybe get one initiative of any substance that they’ll have the political capital to swing at. Sure you can do some stuff by executive order - but Trump spent his term undoing Obama’s EO’s and Biden has already more or less undone Trump’s. Add in budget realities and the percentages that are captured by military and social programs - and there’s not much room to maneuver. I’m willing to extend everyone the courtesy of assuming the best of intentions - but managing this show is tough at best. When you add in our Federalist system of a bunch of little states with differing goals and perspectives - it really is more like an empire than a single homogeneous entity. I could go on at length - but “empire is hard” rounds to true.6 points

Well, after a short wait my bike finally got here. Need to put a few things on it and break in the tires, but looking forward to get back to riding after a few year hiatus. This is a Triumph Tiger 900 GT Pro. I had the tires changed so I can hopefully do a bit more exploring, but need to get my skills back up a bit before getting too adventurous. Maybe good to start thinking of a TGO meetup sometime this fall when the weather is nice. We did it a few years ago and had a good time.4 points

Much of this is irrelevant for a pragmatic voter. I sometimes fall into the category of the voter who is not as concerned about my politician "getting something done" as I am about "not allowing more crap to get done." Gridlock and do-nothing Congresses are not always a bad thing.4 points

Good GAWD if people would just realize this.... The world is filled with all kinds of folks. Some good, some bad, some in-between. Some of those folks, will take advantage of any situation they are able to; they will lie, cheat, steal, and stretch the truth to fit whatever it is their little heart desires. The reasons are varied and as unique as the individuals, but to deny the fact that it is the truth isn't just ignorant, its harmful. Since the dawn of time, man has conflated situations to foster their goals. I'm sure at some point Grok gaslit the rest of the clan into attacking their neighbors. We've always been at war with EastAsia! I dunno why some folks just can't see it....4 points

I asked GT to make me an old style Bowie Knife. I've always wanted one like the CASEXX, and WESTERN Bowie knife, I'm giving him free range on building this one the only thing I asked from him was to a Blade length 12"-14", and a Coffin style Handle with some sort of exotic wood for it. I can't wait to see what he comes up with, I think this one will be the 5th one I've had him design and build for me.3 points

Went to the Kingsport gun show this morning with a friend. Been nearly 2 years since I have been to a gun show with the world shutting down and all. Didn't need anything or really want anything, just wanted to walk around a bunch of guns and gun people. I succeeded with my meager goals and had a good time and spent a grand total of $2 for a couple of 50 Cal shell cases. I make a shell extract for moon clips out of them and the one I have is never where I want it so thought I should make at least one more. Was a little disappointed that it seemed about half the size that it was last time I went and still had plenty of empty tables. No real bargains, I did handle the new Ruger Max 9 and decided it really didn't fell right in my hand. Actually found two, one $100 over list price and one that was $50 under. Wasn't shopping for ammo but wanted check prices, .22 was going for about 10 cents around for bulk stuff and 20 cents a round for better CCI stuff, glad I have plenty of both, 9mm was mostly around 60 cents but did see a couple of boxes at about 50 cents for plinking grade. Did my usual thing of printing out a few extra $2 off admission coupons and hand them out around me in line and got a few smiles and thank you's. Stopped and got some good BBQ at a food truck on the way home. Good way to spend a cloudy rainy Saturday.3 points

Privacy hasn't existed since the Cold War. Anytime they want .gov can peak at you, your phone, your computer, etc. They can track your movements within a few feet. The trick is to just stay off their radar. Be the gray man. But if they ever notice you, God help ya. My phone spends about 95% of the time sitting on the dresser in the bedroom. I'm good with that.3 points

The changes in...well everything...this last year has me rethinking my shooting activities. Shooting has been a lifelong interest because it is challenging yet relaxing, for me. It has always been an accessible hobby with a semi-reasonable. coast. It has been FUN! I don't know, it doesn't seem like the future is all that bright for us in the shooting community, not talking politics. So I have loaded every 9mm, 38 spl and 45 act cases I have. Used up all my X-treme bullets in the process, almost all my primers. Won't worry anymore about getting ammo or reloading supplies. Shoot up what I have and then move on to other things so to speak. Have a couple of 22's in case the urge hits me down the road a bit. It has been a great hobby, but just not worth all the bucks or effort anymore. Yeah, a couple of shooting buddies want to get me into crossbow or paintball, not sure I can or want to adapt. Anyone relate to this?2 points

Well, we are back from our 5 week trip out West. On our way out I40 we visited the Murrow Building NP in Oklahoma city and eat a steak in the remaining steak house cattle drovers eat in back in the late 1800's. Yes it is still there and serving Rattlesnake, Rocky Mountain Oysters still. Been to the NP there 3 times and it is a somber place. Also stopped by the Petrified Forest N P this time. We spent two weeks around the Grand Canyon, Page Arizona, and Kanab Utah area. There were 11 of us. My wife and I and two of our daughters and their family's. We had a great family vacation time. Those youngins keep one moving. Had 107 degree days at one point around Zion N P. Explored Zion, Bryce Canyon N P, and all the surrounding area. Our kids left us after 2 weeks. Had to go back to work. We decided to travel on and took our traveling grandson Cody with us. We traveled up through Utah and spent time around Salt Lake City. We visited Temple Square and they were working on the foundation of the Temple. Visited within the area for a couple days. Nice place. Missed seeing a keyboard friend while there in SLC, Bandaidman, who I really wanted to meet and greet. Never got his reply until it was too late. Left there and traveled across Idaho, and went through Central Oregon on to the coast. Was really surprised at the topography in C Oregon. First desert then mountains farther west. Coos Bay was a charming town along with the rugged coast of Oregon. Next was Crescent City California and we visited the Redwoods NP and was amazed at the size of those trees and the forest. My sweetie wanted to see El Capetian, so we left there and traveled south of Sacramento to Yosemite N P, and explored Yosemite Valley but did not hike a lot. Got too old for much of that. Left Yosemite and traveled back across the mountains through Donner Pass and seen the history surrounding the Donner party and their ordeal they experienced there. Snow was 22 feet deep while they were there. We then crossed north Nevada then the Salt Flats back through Salt Lake city on the way back east. Came across Wyoming and camped at Laramie. Just so happened that Cheyanne was having their "Frontier Days Festival" they have annually. Man was that a real treat. Was not able to get rodeo tickets, at 200.00 a pop, because they were sold out. My sweetie was worried because of coved and there were wall to wall people there and we were amongst them. Left there and traveled through Nebraska and there was not much to see there and we were running low on time. I was on the way to Springfield Missouri because I wanted to see the Bass Pro Shop there and the Wonders of Life Museum they have just opened there within the BPS. By the way that is their Flagg Ship store and it is a very large store. If you ever get a chance go and see that museum, it cost 40.00 to get in for seniors, and worth every penny. Spent 4 hours in there and never seen the same thing twice. It was a real treat. This was a trip of a lifetime. Cost me a bunch, but I had to pay 5.30 per gal for Diesel Fuel in California, if that tells you anything. Here in Mid TN we are paying 2.79 per gal. I am a little sad it is over because it will most probably be our last out west adventure. Kinda glad to be home for a while but will hit the trail again in Sept, L/w. Now going to get to some light farming, for a little while.2 points

Same here! When I lived in Temecula, CA summer temps would regularly push in the high 100's and as long as you moved in and out of the shade, its comfortable enough not to die. 90 degrees here with our humidity makes me want to die when I am out doing my yard work.2 points

Many ladies don’t like the .40 because it is too “snappy”. The recoil difference between it and 9mm never bothered me. Never shot a Sccy or this unknown full size .40 you’re talking about either. Small 9’s can be equal to .40’s in regards to perceived recoil depending on the platforms you’re comparing. One thing I do know is that no 9mm is going to deliver 180 grains of devastating hydrostatic shock.2 points

Rock Islands have years of positive reputation but those SDS Tisas have come on strong. They are generally very well regarded and start under $400 for a basic GI model. They are also stamped Knoxville, TN as SDS is based here, so that’s kinda cool.2 points

After four long years in Huntsville, AL, my wife and I moved back to middle TN last week. Trying out the east side of Nashville in Mt. Juliet. Just renting for the time being as trying to coordinating sell-a-house and buy-a-house in this market would drive me crazy. We are both very, very glad to be back in the Nashville area!1 point

That is a surety, but I have been researching a bit on ancient technologies and am more and more convinced that we were not the first technologically advanced civilization here on earth. I am starting to believe that the dinosaurs were not the only ones to be wiped out by natural occurrences. and it may yet happen again. I don't really believe any of this global warming/cooling is something manmade, only exploited by man.1 point

I have taken 100's of squirrels with a 410.Had a man that once purchased every one I brought to him. He kept me in money for 3 years killing rabbits, squirrels, and quail. I used Remington 3" # 6 on all, but 7 1/2 on quail. Out to 35 yards, always worked. Gave the 410 to my grandson last fall. He paid me .50 and gave me a replacement shell for every animal I brought him. Hunted rabbits with the 410 not too long ago. # 6 Remington 3". Have killed with 2 1/2" but not as good.1 point

Yeah, again, I'm amazed at people.... they're either stupid, ignorant, or willfully forget the fact that the fedgov already has backdoors into everything, can hack whatever else they want (see Snowden, et al), and been repeatedly exposed having run roughshod over the entire world population and US Constitution since pretty much World War II. Oh, but THIS app, this ones safe. .... yep.1 point

This has nothing to do with HIPPA( does not apply to private non-medical business) or the constitution. Tennessee is a work at will state. Employers can set any requirement for work.(obviously it can't be discriminatory) You wife has the option of not working there if she does not want to. Not saying this is right, just the way it is. Their place, their rules.1 point
