  1. We’ve canned 31 quarts of green beans and probably gave that many away. They’ve just now started producing good. I guess I’ll give more away as we’re about tired of fooling with them. It’s raining cherry tomatoes here!

  2. There actually is a state law that voids other violations in the case of justifiable self defense use of a firearm. Several years ago in Knoxville, a convicted felon shot a convenience store robber and could not be prosecuted for possession of a weapon.

  3. I planted two small above ground frames, filled it with miracle grow garden soil. Actually started a few weeks later than usual. Tomatoes, cucumbers and a few peppers. I never did above ground before, I thought it worked pretty well. Next year I would like to add beans and okra.

  4. IIRC the incident took place in Bartlett at a city park and the gentleman in question never actually presented the weapon. He only warned the dude with the bat and had his hand on it, but never raised it. That’s the line the judge called out. If he had raised it and bat dude had reconsidered negating the need to fire, he would have been ok. Which to me reemphasizes the point that a firearm isn’t an item to use to verbally threaten or intimidate. It’s not a part of the equation until it must be part of the equation. I’m still trying to find either the thread or news article about it.

  6. It's pretty normal do have a slight "drag" the last 1/2" as the slide goes into battery if you're riding the slide back by hand. You have to remember everything is coming together at that point. But loaded, you should either pull back the slide and let it go, or if it's at slide lock, you can do the same or hit the slide release. If it functions fine when firing, you're good to go. At 100 rounds, it's not even broke in yet! I've got 5000+ rounds (IDPA shooter) through my Range Officer and the only thing I've had to change was a recoil spring at about 2000+ rounds.

  8. I found a new groundhog hole this weekend. I doesn't seem to matter how many I shoot, I always have one more messing things up. I told my boys that every groundhog they tell me about that I can get shot on, I'll give them $5. I got to hammer some after that.

  9. Pull the slide all the way rearward, let go, and let 'er slam home. That's how they were designed to operate. Just shoot it and enjoy the genius of John Browning.

  10. Definitely get the brisket at Costco if you buy one. So much cheaper than other places, and the full packer is “prime”. Pork shoulders and chicken wings are also good/easy. Meatchurch bbq is a good resource for smoking and they have awesome rubs too.

  11. Beat me to it. It's one thing to put your life at risk doing stupid stuff like that, but it's inexcusable to endanger other folks. Based on the description of the toy hauler, I'd be willing to bet that a F250 is undersized for the load.

  12. https://www.wsmv.com/news/metro-pd-gunman-dead-3-injured-in-shooting-at-antioch-smile-direct-club/article_c738e438-f44c-11eb-bd05-073414734d3a.html?block_id=994460 3 victims, one in critical. Gunman shot and killed by Metro PD officers responding. Motive not yet being reported. As usual....the corporate dimwits released a statement "The safety of our team members is a top priority for our Company and we maintain strict security protocols and a no weapons policy at all of our facilities. We are working with the local police as they investigate this matter." (emphasis mine) To paraphrase Chris Tucker: Do you understand the words that are coming out of your mouth? Of course the news reader (erm....anchor) Brittany Weiner said at the end of the story this morning something like "It's hard to believe something like this could happen in our community." Do you watch your own newscasts? Ya'll cover shootings EVERY DAY and it feels like Nashville has workplace/random stuff at least once a year.

  15. I seen the protuberance, but the color seemed off, but in the video it can clearly be seen as an extended mag. Yea, I noticed that too. I wonder if policy keeps them from having one in the chamber, or if it was personal choice, because a round was not ejected.

  19. So for me I put a bunch of peas in the freezer. Tomatoes are starting to keep me busy and I'm enjoying the green beans. I planted less than usual this year. Just wasn't quite as motivated as usual.

  21. First thought...disgruntled customer. I'm told by a friend that these are painful. Secondly, the news people must make it sound like a once-in-a-lifetime event that just cannot be explained. Sadly it is not that. As monkeylizard says, shootings like this are getting to be all too frequent. No matter the reason for it, thugs, individuals, or even unhappy family members are resorting to violence these days. There seems to be no common sense in the actions of many today. There is no fear of penalty from the law it seems. Yes I know this individual paid heavily for his actions, but probably thought he'd get away with it.

  26. I had a couple minor installations recently that I was hesitant to tackle by my myself, one on an AR and one on a pistol, so I took them to Greenbrier's Guns & Leather. Jeff Walle did both while I waited at very reasonable prices. Admittedly, these weren't major gunsmithing projects, but after this, if I did have a major issue, Id take it to him unhesitatingly. He seems very skilled and as a bonus, interesting to talk with.

  29. CAN CONFIRM! Yesterday was the end of the first 24 hours and my shoulder was throbbing. Today the muscle is still very sore to the touch at the injection site. My wife, a nurse, says that it's because the pH balance of the shot is quite a bit different than my body's normal pH and that caused it to burn and continue hurting. I, on the other hand, now a true believer in "The Science", am quite certain that it hurts because the wires from the microchip have burrowed deep into my arm and are now receiving VLF signals from China. One of us is right and the other is wrong. I know who my money is on.

  30. LOL! My father lives in the city limits. I think he killed 3 deer in his garden last year. I haven’t heard a score yet for this season. Apparently nobody wants to confront an old man in his tighty whiteys at 3am carrying a shotgun. While I can’t recommend his approach, I can suggest a good air rifle.

  36. They contract a security company for security services, I forget which one. The buildings are set up as single points of access past the security desk. Typical dual door/air lock setup with card readers at each door. Since he was an employee he would have had card access to both doors. There was one report of a security guard confronting (verbally) him but I have not heard if that security guard was one of the individuals shot. It was likely a workplace disagreement. One of the individuals shot was a "Captain" which is their term for a line lead or supervisor. Potentially this individuals immediate supervisor but I can not confirm that. At the time I was in any of their facilities (there is also another manufacturing location in Antioch on Bakertown Rd.) there were no metal detectors or screening to enforce the no weapon policy beyond the security guard visually monitoring the foot traffic past the desk. The reports from other employees do make it sound like he left the building and came back, likely to retrieve his firearm from his vehicle. This was at the end of his 6pm to 6am shift. There were frequent issues at all of their manufacturing locations. Fights and arguments inside and outside of the buildings between employees. Visitors coming onto the property to confront employees during breaks, lunches or start/end of shift. Drug deals in the parking lot. Car break ins in the parking lots. Sounds bad but honestly not all that unusual for a 24 hour, hourly shift work manufacturing environment these days. Side note: One of the employees there stabbed and killed his wife at home a couple years ago during an argument. They were not pulling talent from a deep pool...

  37. My nephew told me that they were piping in "V8 motor sounds" over the stereo to offset the sounds of the 2.0 liter engine - and I thought he was pulling my leg. Alas: https://www.motortrend.com/news/2021-ford-bronco-sport-badlands-v-8-noise-speakers/ I don't even really know what to say.
