  1. Had a family "4th" of July (10th) celebration in West Tennessee with swimming, cornhole, skeet and fireworks along with good food. Took the normal 870 youth 20, my late grandfather's Model 11 Remington 20 with the vent rib barrel and the old Double Barrel Belgium "JJ Weston". She's got 32-34' Laminated Steel (probably Damascus) double barrels , double hammers , double triggers and some sweet 1890s engraving. I bought some of the 1.75" shotshells, Minimax i think. Although ensuring I wore glasses and earmuffs every time, she shot like a dream and actually busted a few skeet with her. Fun times shooting a 140 year old gun.

  2. We use Wyze cams. They're around 20 bucks each, with an additional $10 for an outdoor housing, and an SD card for continuous recording. Hardest thing is getting power to them. We use them to keep an eye on things around the property more than anything else. Getting the popo to launch an investigation is another issue. That depends on where you are. Here's the back driveway. I know... overdue for the pressure washer.

  3. I raise blackberries, muscadines, grapes, elderberries and use them all in wine, seedless jams, syrups for colds/virus/infections, etc... These are from this mornings quick pick on my rows. All together about 3 1/2 gallons, a relative normal pick every two to three days. Had three nine to ten gallons days earlier in the season. Average between 36 and 43 gallons a season the last four years. This year will eclipse 50 I'm positive thanks to all the rain this season. Except for what the family pilfers, I freeze all of mine in 2 quart vac bags with about 1/3 cup of sugar to juice them and help preserve. When time comes to process, just take out what I need and either steam juice and can for syrup, press for wine or run thru a Squeezo for seedless jam. Takes a little investment for wine (good link above) but other than the consumable additives, will last if taken care of. Wine making is easy, most critical is having everything sterile. Plenty of recipes all over the web and most encourage trying different blends of juices. I have 5 gallons of blackberry/elderberry in carboy now along with another 5 gallon carboy of blackberry. Plenty of places to order supplies as well. I like a sweet after dinner wine so one thing to keep in mind is that the more alcohol you make, the less sweet the end product. I try to maintain a 10-12% that suits my palate, more importantly the wife's. There is some truth to the old saying... "Drunk wife, happy life". I've had good luck with this company over the years..... https://labelpeelers.com/ Steam juicers and a Squeeo can be found on the intraweb. My old aluminum 1930-40's era Squeeo came off of ebay. Better built, no plastic parts. Sqeezo makes making seedless jams a breeze. If you like jelly, the steam juicer is the bomb, in my opinion, especially for elderberry. Good luck and don't be afraid to experiment. Everyone I know has had to throw out a batch or two over the years.

  4. I might be late to the party but has anyone else read it. I'd heard people talking about it when it first came out but at the time, didn't really have time to sit and get engrossed in a book. Recent events convinced me to finally read it and it was down right scary. Anyone with any understanding of human nature could see how things in the book are very realistic. I've got the other two of the trilogy and am hoping they are as good. Off to buy some tin foil

  5. Meant to add that the proximity of the story to East Tennessee makes it even more gripping. That part of NC is closer to Knoxville than Nashville is and not much further than Chattanooga.

  9. I added a doorbell camera to my security system and got several benefits from it. I then added several outside cameras so I could see when someone comes on our property. Totally sold on the benefit of having them. Regardless of whether it could be used to determine who a criminal is, it allows you to see who is on your property, who just rang your doorbell, what just got delivered and whether the person treated the package properly, when someone you're expecting has arrived, when someone is around your house at night, check from work if it's actually raining at your house and will be able to mow when you get home, etc. Basic all around early warning system.

  11. All the "ignorant" folks I know have assessed the risk, and made their choice. It was different before we had access to the vaccine. The virus had free reign. If 15,000 twenty somethings get covid, the ignorant ones will prove to be the ones that blew this into a frenzy. We need to count the deaths. Now, if somebody my age wants to refuse the vaccine and winds up dying, then hell yes, he should have the freedom to do so. I don't agree. But, it ain't my call.

  14. So I built an AR for shooting 22LR as well as 5.56/.223. It was built with a .223 Wylde 1/9 twist barrel, an Anderson lower (thanks Whisper), a blemed upper, a full stock (thanks KahrMan) and a free floating match hand guard. I aquired a cosmetically damaged PSA lower for next to nothing (read less than $30) so i needed to make it better. A buddy of mine got into Cerakoting for an auto restauration he is working on, but wanted to try fire arms. I was game and decided on a mildy two-tone build using a modified Disruptive Grey color (33% Graphite Black-66% Tungsten instead of 25% Graphite Black-75% Tungsten) for the upper, lower, and hand guard and Graphite Black for the stock, forward assist and ejection cover. The smalll bits were already a decent black in the lower build kit. The Cerakoting went great. It does take time to clean, sand blast, de-gas. Since we were doing two colors, we went with the black first. I did the frame of my 92S at the same time. The ABS plastic stock had to cure at a lower temp for 2 hours so we flashed the metal parts at that temp and then used the rest of the plastic cure time to do the Mod-disruptive grey (I need to name it). and flash those. Once the plastic was done we hard cured the metal parts. All in all I was at Scott's house for about 7 hours yesterday. I finished the build out today. I am very happy with the result. There are a few blemishes. It was Scott's first time to spray gun parts. And I dinged the hand guard, and of course the ding ended up at the top once installed, not the bottom. I am still trying to decide if the gas block should match the upper/lower/hand guard. The oven cured Cerakote is rated to about 500 degF. I am not sure how hor a gas block gets. I may have to Kote some other things. I think my inexpensive, parkerized GI model 1911 would look good that color, or a version of that color. The old lower from Whisper will get a new caliber upper (300 BO). Here are some before and after photos.

  20. My main reason is to catch porch pirates. I’ve never had an attempted break in or anything stolen, but I like to know what’s going on around my house especially in the summer when more teens are out and about or we’re traveling.

  24. None. This one is wifi. It replaced an existing floodlight hardwired to the house. It would only work for a similar application. No doubt what you have is better, but this one fits the bill perfectly for what I wanted. We woke up Monday night to the sound of someone trying to kick a panel out of the garage door in my basement. By the time I woke up enough to grab a gun and head down there, they were gone. It has never happened before, and I don’t intend for it to happen again. It’s probably for the best their attempt wasn’t successful. I take a very dim view of thieves. The weird thing is my truck was sitting right there unlocked with all sorts of valuable goodies in it. Not touched.

  25. I have the Arlo also (Pro 2 version). It's easy to setup and included the free cloud storage which is nice. I got a 3-camera pack a few years ago on Black Friday at Costco. They have good resolution within about 8-10 feet (faces are clear). But beyond that, you can see everything happening within 20-30 yards just fine, but it doesn't have the detail to make out faces or license plates very well at any greater distance. In other words, I can see people walking by on the sidewalk, but unless they walk up on my porch I can't tell who it is. The newer cameras are probably better, but this suits my needs. Example. My front porch now with my car parked out front. I can see the car and it's clear, but can't read a plate.

  32. To a degree, it would. There is a lot of misinformation out there; on both sides. The fact this is being pushed so hard certainly gives me pause. The federal government nor the talking heads on the news give a tinker’s damn about your health. What is the real reason behind the constant push?

  35. NRA used to, as long as Darren LaSorte was their State Lobbyist, actively work Tennessee for our good, After Jimmie Naifeh picked up his new flame who was antigun, he took a different tact and demanded LaSorte be removed from Tennessee, we got long legs and cute and giggly after that for a while till 2010, when Chris Cox got ticked at Maggart and sent LaSorte back for a bit, then we got a registered Democrat from Virginia who donated to Northam... The new lobbyist was hired out of Bill Lee's staff, and says he is willing to work with us this year, but I would like to know when he became a member of the NRA? If in fact he does decide to seek to support the 2nd Amendment by telling the truth about who does and does not support us in the legislature I will be his best friend. I am a Life and Benefactor NRA Member, have been a life member for longer than a lot of the legislators have been alive. GOA works with TFA, 2nd Amendment Foundation are great folks and work with us as well.

  36. I read an article this morning that says a big donor from Nashville is suing to remove $64M from the NRA's bankruptcy actions. This guy donating $100,000, then found out that WLP spent hundreds of thousands on luxury vacations and high-end suits. I'm a long-time life member, with some of those meaningless add-ons, and I value the political efforts of the NRA. BUT.... I've had it with the internal politics of the organization. It's long past time for WLP to go. I remember when he made the infamous "jackbooted thugs" remark that caused George Bush to resign, and didn't care for it then. But the NRA has long been the big-boy on the block when it comes to lobbying for our gun rights. One of things that bothers me most is that the NRA has not addressed all these allegations and problems in their monthly magazines. Oh, they've sung the praises of Wayne, but I think they owe the members a detailed explanation. I don't think we'll get that before a change in management, and probably not at all. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/jan/16/nra-donor-bankruptcy-dave-dellaquila-wayne-lapierre

  40. My thanks to you, ACfixer. Let me explain just a bit. I have been an NRA member since the very early 80's. Always yearly until I could afford the Life fees. Did it a full price, not during one of the specials(though at times I wish I had). My rationale for no further money to the NRA is explained in several other threads. Mostly those to do with Wayne LePierre. His shennigans and exhorbitant lifestyle, not to mention his suit collection. When his reign is over, and a new leadership installed, I, and others, will possibly give more. As far as the incentives to join or renew, I learned very early in my membership, those items were...1 cheap junk just to entice you to give money, and 2, and most repugnant to me, the great majority of it was made in China. Even the multitude of NRA caps I have. I think I have one that wasn't, and it's a prized possession. Not because of the source of manufacture, but because it belonged to my late father-in-law. Until then, the TFA, GOA, 2AF, and others get my small donations. And though it may be late, welcome to the greatest gun forum I know of.

  41. Re NRA: I'm Endowment Member, and for couple years now everything they send me in pre-paid envelopes, I send back with "no more $$ from me till Wayne leaves" and the like. And like someone else said in thread, after a couple of calls where I said same on phone, haven't had any more calls for about 6 months now anyway. Here's a guy who has made quite a difference so far, seem: https://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Politics/2019/1011/NRA-troubles-A-hunter-targets-the-world-s-most-powerful-gun-lobby - OS

  42. Yeah no problem. It's like now you're a life member right? So when you pay to upgrade to Endowment life it earns you an upgrade to them begging you to become a Patron life member. When you do upgrade to Patron, then and only then will they anoint you with mailings begging you to pay to become a Benefactor! Finally, you get get to the grand poobah of life memberships... you will be then invited to the Golden Circle of Patriotic Sainthood. I'm not sure if there's and end to it... So to summarize, each time they get you to send another $250-500 they will give you a new title, a new sticker, and a new Chinese duffel bag should you choose to accept it.

  45. I belong to both. Despite its current problems, the NRA does have clout. They also have some serious internal problems that have gone on for years. King Wayne long ago got much to into playing politics and became our own worst enemy. Honestly, I hope he ends up in jail. Hopefully, the NRA will come through these troubles better for the experience and regain its glory. Omega is right about GOA. These guys are bare knuckle fighters and don't back down or compromise. If GOA was as big as the NRA, we wouldn't have to fight for our rights. Maybe the NRA's current problems will help GOA grow. I strongly recommend them.

  47. Read my last post. Screw the police. It’s about a five mile walk up a mountain side to my house unless you drive or come from a couple of neighbors’ houses. Either way, out here in the sticks, I’m going to know who you are. Since you are a government dependent city boy, I don’t know how to help you. If you ever aspire to be an independent man, we can probably help.
