DUMB ASS, granted. But Chicago criminalizes that, and that is wrong. And the cost to defend being a DUMB ASS is immense. And that is wrong. Why is sacrosanct Chicago not subject to all of the normally recognized laws of our country that protect our citizens, including the Bill of Rights?3 points

I can kinda see their point. It is Chicago after all and any firearm is a no-no. Stranger in town, long range rifle with a view of the beach.? Maybe he's just an idiot, but just maybe he had other plans. I guess we'll never know.3 points

This is just my opinion, the man’s first mistake was going to Chicago with firearms on his person. The second mistake was leaving a loaded rifle with magazines loaded in a hotel room overlooking a busy street. I just have two words for this “DUMB ASS”!!!3 points

I may give the jerk chicken chips a try, but they'll never beat Golden Flake Sweet Heat potato chips. If the store ever stops carrying those Sweet Heat chips, I might have to head down to the crossroad and cut a deal, Robert Johnson style.2 points

Well I am taking all of what I am reading with a grain of salt by Sun Times and what is coming out of CNN cause if there isn't really anything in the beginning by the time they get done he will be a mass murderer and have 20 guns in the room. The guy made two mistakes.1 Going to Chicago and 2 taking firearms with him. I spoke with a friend that lives in Lockport Illinois 28 miles from Chicago and he has not been to Chicago in 11 years and has no plans in going any time soon. He actually avoids going to anything in Cook county period.2 points

FWIW, this was meant to be tonge in cheek, because its a bit funny versus it being a serious thing. I appreciated it after a year that has been pretty tough politically in the activism arena and thought the humor of the petition was more self evident than it may have be or that most like to see the humor in things. My bad.2 points

I know a guy who just moved from Knoxville to Texas to lead trial rides at the Bronco Off-Roadeo course there near Austin. He's a very discerning off road enthusiast and he says they are really great and capable off road vehicles. Its a true contender for the Jeep in the "off the lot off road capable options". If the fords have any level of better reliability than Jeep they'll see good sales2 points

I'm not thoroughly familiar with Chicago law, but I am somewhat familiar. I've carried and kept loaded handguns in my hotel room in Chicago many times. I wouldn't even think of leaving one unsecured in the room though. Of course this is the kind of thing that CNN and Lightfoot salivate over. But from the information in the article, and I'm sure that if there was speculation to the contrary, CNN would have let us know, the guy wasn't a prohibited person, had no criminal background, and sans the boneheaded decision to leave firearms in his room unsecured, was probably a lot like many of us. Maybe I'm missing something, but I can't wrap my mind around felony charges stemming from merely possessing a firearm that is legal to posses. https://www.cnn.com/2021/07/08/us/keegan-casteel-chicago-hotel-weapons-arrest/index.html (CNN) An Iowa man is facing two felony charges after a loaded handgun and rifle were found in his Chicago hotel room July 4, near where hundreds of families were celebrating the holiday, prosecutors said. Keegan Gregory Casteel, 32, is charged with two felony counts of aggravated unlawful use of weapons/loaded. He appeared in court Tuesday and was released after paying a portion of his $10,000 bond, according to court documents obtained by CNN. Police said there was a handgun and a loaded .308 caliber rifle "equipped with a laser and high-powered scope" in Casteel's hotel room. Five rifle magazines were also found, according to Casteel's arrest report. The weapons were discovered by an employee of the W Chicago Lakeshore Hotel who went into Casteel's room to clean it, Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown said Tuesday. They were near a window "in a very suspicious position," Brown said. The employee "likely prevented a tragedy from happening," Brown said. Casteel's 12th floor hotel room overlooked a portion of Chicago's Ohio Street Beach along Lake Michigan and Navy Pier, prosecutors said during Tuesday's hearing. Brown noted the employee's discovery was significant because hotels have not been cleaning rooms daily due to Covid-19 restrictions. The W Hotel has not responded to CNN's request for comment and it referred all questions from CNN affiliate WLS to the Chicago Police Department. Casteel, who lives in Ankeny, Iowa, was released after paying a $1,000 cash bond. He doesn't have any previous criminal history or issues in federal databases, Brown said. Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot told WLS she's "not happy" with the bond amount. "This isn't a firearm for personal protection. What he had were weapons of war," Lightfoot said. "Because he was charged with mere possession and legally, here in our city, the charges weren't of the type that he could have been held. But luckily, he was questioned by the joint terrorism task force. He is now under radar screening of the FBI." Casteel will be allowed to reside in Iowa and travel back and forth for the duration of the case, court documents show. He also had to surrender the weaponry to the Chicago Police Department and was ordered to stay away from the W Hotel. Judge David R. Navarro told Casteel Tuesday that he understands the man is permitted to possess firearms in his home state of Iowa, but added, "clearly we are not in Iowa." Casteel's permit doesn't allow him to carry or have his weapons in Chicago, prosecutors said. Casteel is scheduled to appear in court July 14 in Skokie, Illinois.1 point

I tried several of those fancy Lay’s flavors when they started all that. Totally disappointed every time. You simply cannot make a potato chip taste like meat. But I do like the jerk seasoning.... Can still taste those foul chicken & waffle chips they had that someone made eat years ago. Nasty.1 point

With all of the guns floating around Chicago if he was going to be forced to go there for any reason I would say he didn't have enough with him if he would have had to defend himself and he would be seriously out gunned.1 point

Yes i can confirm that is an arsenal if you look at their playbook. Now my playbook suggests that's just daily carry stuff. Lord help me if they look in my truck. Lol. I will say if I had to travel to certain areas in our country common sense would prevail and I would "declutter" and follow their laws to a T. Not worth risking everything by doing aomething stupid.1 point

Especially since there is an average of 75+ people moving to Nashville area every day, mostly from New Jersey and other northern states. Hopefully they are escaping the tyranny and not part of the "turn red states blue" movement.1 point

Shot it a good bit this weekend....and wow... holy hell is this a nice rifle. I'm getting better, but this thing can sure as hell outshoot me. The iron sights on this are just awesome. My range is only about 220ish yards right now, but the sight adjustment on this is magnificent. I was able to ring steel at the 200 yard mark pretty regularly. Now hopefully ammo will come down, because I am probably going to smoke through the 4k rounds of .308 I have left lol1 point

Kinda makes ya wonder why the cleaning person was in THAT room, since, as the article stated, they hadn't been cleaning rooms for a bit. And, why didn't the doofus put out the "Do Not Disturb" door hanger? But it also makes me wonder what HE was up to. And why would anyone be dumb enough to go to chicago in the first place?1 point

Ummm, my guess is to clean the room ...1 point

Much ado about nothing. Just buy 5 packages of buns, along with 4 of hotdogs, and you have a perfect match. Then, just invite 39 friends over for a cookout ...1 point

Actually, the only wieners I buy anymore come in packages of 8 (Nathan's) but like hipower, growing up it was normally bread instead of buns. A pack of buns and a loaf of bread cost about the same and there wasn't any money to waste.1 point

We were called a lot of things back then; but "rich" was never one of them. Small town. Population of less than 800. We didn't make the cut for the "better" side of town. Dad was a mechanic and Mom worked at Georgia Shoe. Had to have a white collar job to be in the social register there.1 point

Slightly off track, but you brought up the chocolate pie Mac. lol The Rose Garden Cafe, just off the Smithville/Center Hill Dam Exit on I40 has excellent homemade pies. The Chocolate is wonderful, and the coconut is a close second! It's about 15 miles West of Cookeville, and for the redneck guys...about 6 miles from Baxter.1 point

in my opinion the best bbq in the US doesn't come from any of the cities on that list. It comes from the places you find when you think you're lost in the middle of nowhere. Places like BE Scotts in Lexington TN or Trollinger's outside of Paris. We were in Florence AL one time and the group decided to get BBQ and we drove past 4 commercial looking spots with bright signs to get to a small little building with a tiny sign over the door and inside looked like it needed a good mopping. We clearly made the right choice. It was really great btw if anyone is ever in Florence; Dick Howell's BBQ1 point

I have 5.56 AR mags loaded with Winchester 64 grain Power Point. This round is marketed toward deer hunters and has a decent track record against medium size game. It is reliable and accurate and has virtually the same trajectory out to 200 or so as a 55fmj. My intent with this round is not for defending the living room, but rather for being prepared for outdoor festivities if Antifa is coming down the street, etc. I figure a deer round will be just as good or better than pretty much anything else for repelling bad guys. https://www.midwayusa.com/product/29004026821 point

I acquired this old scale as part of a large lot of reloading equipment. It's a Lyman M5 and it looks like it was probably manufactured in the 50's or 60's. I've not even taken it out of its case, but think it's a pretty cool old item.1 point
-
That man is a complete idiot. Nothing political about it. He was born stupid, and will die stupid.1 point
-
One difference the new RCBs scale has vs the old Lyman & others, is that it has the increments on both sides for lefties ( I'm not ). Also, the pan has two tabs for either hand. One issue with both scales was, that my eye level is at an angle to the scale pointer. Fixed that by adding a small bedroom mirror which is adjustable. What I did was, zero the scale from eye level, then adjust the mirror to get the same reading when I'm seated. Works great & much easier to work with.1 point
