I just heard that the Knox County Sheriff’s dept. will start having a free class the last Saturday of every month to help people understand what exactly permitless carry means. More details to be released next week. That is the kind of service more LE agencies should start providing as the misunderstanding about what this all means is astounding.4 points

They backed off of that rather quickly. https://tennesseefirearms.com/2021/07/tbi-immediately-retracts-its-policy-to-use-dui-standards-to-deny-firearms-purchases/?fbclid=IwAR34eLmBTsgX7B693aFozLk8VYgyMkb1QIUtg-aw6bQprR0ibY5hzj6GLk83 points

When I lived in Pascagoula, Ms. in the early 70's there was a black man that had a 55 gallon drum turned into a PIT MASTER!! On Friday's he would cook ribs and made what he called rib sandwiches, which is 2 pieces of white bread and about 4 ribs with the bone in stuck in the middle. He cooked at the back edge of a shopping center on a little side street. That was some lip smackin pig popsicles!! Fast forward to the early 90's and a customer's dad had a little BBQ place out in the sticks right next to his house and he had probably the best ribs. He was an older black man and me and him hit it off the bat talking about catching bluegills. He said the first thing to cooking good ribs is having a good rib, he said a #2 rib was his choice, the bone isn't too big. Makes my mouth water, when I cook my ribs tomorrow I will think of these gentlemen who were bbq masters!!2 points

^^^^ This. I made friends with an Alabama pit master outside Birmingham once. Great big 'ol black guy, nicknamed "Tiny" of course, that had a walk up window concrete block shack near all the truck yards. Once told me he gave me a little extra to take home since I should not come back after dark. "Skinny white boy like you won't last long out here after dark" I think was about what he said. Great pulled pork!2 points

If your calls for NRA donations have an uptick soon, this is probably why. https://thereload.com/nra-creates-fund-to-protect-directors-as-llyods-of-london-fails-to-renew-insurance/ It's firmly into the wonky side of things, but it represents a real problem for the NRA because it takes the risk and liability from corporate to personal. I'd love to learn what kind of tail coverage is on the table as well. The big question is if Lloyd's had real, legit enough pressure to do this bearing down, or got out of the way on their own accord.2 points

It's not officially the holiday weekend yet but I am predicting at least 1 incident in east tn linked directly back to it involving the following side by side drinking good ol boy event jeans tucked into boots trucker hat open carrying a weapon half the size of the wearer food truck or concession trailer2 points

Honestly, nothing that goes on in California, remotely interests me anymore. I saw what the San Jose Mayor proposed the other day and immediately thought that it would never survive the first court appearance. IMO, the counties that want to leave California and form their own state, should be allowed to, along with counties in Oregon and Washington. Then California should be encouraged to form it's own country. Maybe take Hawaii and and the other parts of Oregon and Washington with it. But no one cares what I think.2 points

Yeah well. Most of the street killin' is going on in Downtown Woketopia, where guns ain't allowed.2 points

Many years ago working at schools as an outside contractor, I asked a Police officer what was the difference between the knife I carried and the knife a student carried. The answer I was given was this, "mine is a tool, the student's is a weapon". The officer I asked also said at any time I could be charged with a weapons charge if needed. I carry tools every day, I get on the tarmac at the airport and schools grounds with a van full of tools, all can be used as weapons, some as WMDs. I for one am damn tired of worrying about what law I may or may not be breaking!!!2 points

I do too. I also like night shooting. This is my Charles Daly HiPower that I purchased from a member here. I had it milled to accept a Holosun 507k and had him install the Dawson Precision rail that’s designed for the 1911 and Surefire X300V-A. Then cerakoted black. This gun is a total one off I’ve never seen any other one modded like this. I can’t wait to get it out under NODS.1 point

Not at home, but I own a little over 7 acres that I hunt on that has a perfect setup for my short range shooting. I plan on setting up a 100 yard target for zeroing my rifles, but since it has to be hilltop to hilltop I need to dig it down a bit for a good backstop. I buy the thicker targets, so I can shoot most anything at them, though I have a couple that are for handgun only. I started with the grouped targets, but have also got the T-post hangers to put them at different ranges most anywhere with a good backstop.1 point

I have a small range. I shoot off my back deck out to about 30 yards into a hill side. If I set up a portable shooting table I can extend to 60 yards, but I checked it out the other day and some trees need some trimming for 60 yards since it was last used. My close target is 10 yards. I have an assortment of steel in different thicknesses That I color code when I paint them. Red for .22 only, Yellow for hand guns and carbine, Green for most anything within reason considering the distance. By doing a mix I could put up a lot more .22 steel for the money, and more reactive. I have a couple of places that I can hang paper when I need to sight in a gun.1 point

Well after a 10% first responders discount and a $30 off clearance price I found a cheap but well known and well made pistol for $359 ! Pretty good score in my opinion. I have the same pistol in. 45acp and it's great. Enjoy the picture. I will give Taurus a chance later when problems seem to calm down and cease or level out. Until then check out my inexpensive but reliable $359 pistol. S.A. discontinued these but its new old stock .1 point

Sounds like most everyone is having pretty good success. I thought my pepper plants were going to die back when we had all that rain. I put some calcium nitrate around each one and I don't know if that is what helped or drying out did the trick. Picked 1st grape tomato Saturday, pulled carrots up and blanched them and put them in freezer and should pick yellow squash, zucchini and cabbage by end of this week. All my veggies in raised beds, potatoes, green beans, cucumbers. For those that haven't tried it a fall garden is sometimes more productive because the pests and diseases aren't as prevalent. I have been doing 2 plantings of green beans for 4 or 5 years. Plus the brassicas like cauliflower, broccoli, carrots all do well. Glad everyone is getting some nice tasty returns for your labor.1 point

Virginia has had open carry without a permit for a long time. I have not seen an abundance of businesses posted in my travels in the state. I also do not see many people open carrying there either. Sometimes I think we over think things. My guess is there will be very little noticeable difference after the new law takes affect.1 point

That is an interesting article as I was under the impression it was no big deal if your weapon was inadvertently exposed. I was a member of Florida Carry as well. After 22 years of carrying in Florida I did not worry if my weapon printed or not. No one ever pointed out I was printing or if my weapon accidentally was exposed. I guess it depends on where in Florida you live. I don't open carry here in TN but I don't carry IWB anymore either. After being here over two years I have seen maybe five people openly carrying their weapon. I do like the idea I can open carry but I am too old to fight if some punk tries to take my weapon. Plus I like the idea of surprise being on my side.1 point

Given the company that did the study and the criteria for the study I can see how that list was compiled. It's complete fertilizer of course but that's what you get when a lawn company doing the study lol. Not to mention the fact KC is THE home to the largest BBQ organization (society) in the country. And not 1 city in NC made the list ? pfff !1 point

Maybe old Lloyd is disgusted with the directors over not sending Wayne and his crooked cronies packing already. Maybe this will cause some of the NRA directors testicles to finally drop enough to begin cleaning up the cesspool known as the NRA. Maybe, enough folks will finally get sick enough about the NRA leadership's shenanigans to throw the whole lot out and start over, or at the least stop sending in donations to fund their little embezzlement club ...1 point

Last month I went back to K.C. for a week to do some honey-do's for my MIL. While there, I went to the Hyvee - a grocery store that I wish would come to Murfreesboro - and saw several local brands of BBQ sauce of which I've never heard. For those who have never heard of Hyvee, they make our local grocery stores look lame as hell.1 point

It would if your cover garment slid up and an officer decided you were open carrying. https://www.floridacarry.org/news/54-florida-gun-owners-still-face-arrest-and-prosecution-for-innocent-exposure-of-handguns1 point

A mere $4500 gives you a fun toy, but better yet, a great way to stop folks from tailgating you. https://www.smga.com/tippmann-armory/tippmann-9mm-gatlin-gun-glock-mag-10897??wk1 point

These things have been around for a few years now. By all accounts they're extremely well made, reliable and accurate. Its the price that keeps holding people back.1 point

Please don't let that drive you away from making a deal with a newer member (like me!). Those kinds of scams are designed to get you to send a money order or prepaid credit card off, never to be seen again. The couple of deals I've made here on TGO have been face-to-face or mailing to or from an in-state address. I agree that the scammers suck and I think they should be beaten within an inch of their lives, but it's fairly easy to figure out what is and isn't legit. And if in question, don't do it.1 point

It does. I imagine by the end of the day there will be no one left alive in the State of Tennessee. Gonna be the Wild West don’t ya know. The “news” and hand-wringers said so.1 point

Yep, in Florida all carry is concealed carry and I found myself in a couple of places where weapons were not allowed. I had something else on my mind and just walked right in. When I finally realized I was carrying I just stayed in line. As noted above, concealed means concealed.1 point

From 1996 until 2018(?) if you wanted to legally carry a pistol on your person either concealed or openly out in public you got a HCP (Handgun Carry Permit). Then they created a CCP (Concealed Carry Permit) that requires concealed carry and has further restrictions than the standard HCP had and no reciprocity with other states. So the governor and legislature allegedly want to pass "Constitutional Carry" so instead of eliminating the one sentence in TCA that would make it possible they end up creating a new permit with less benefits and an ambiguous and confusing change to the law that now allows people over 21 who can legally own a pistol to carry them (most places but not public parks or greenways) but with further restrictions and it is all just a mess. Here's an idea that would not take a lot of legal or political gymnastics to accomplish. Make the ECP a TRUE "enhanced" permit. If you choose to take the class you can carry ANYWHERE not forbidden by Federal Law. ANYWHERE . Signs have no force of law anymore. You have reciprocity with other states. (I'd also suggest changing the "no alcohol" to simply "as long as you are under the legal limit to drive" like Pennsylvania and several other states but I also know that is very unlikely to happen) If you cannot afford the +/- $70 for the class plus the $100 for the Enhanced Permit or you just don't want to fool with getting it and you are a resident of TN (and you can legally own a pistol) then you would have the right to carry inside the borders of TN but with no reciprocity (not because I believe you shouldn't but because we cannot force other states to allow people from our state with no permit to carry there) but all other features and restrictions would be same as the current HCP is now. Pretty simple.1 point
