Well if more "No Guns" signs do go up, I don't want to business there anyway.5 points

It does. I imagine by the end of the day there will be no one left alive in the State of Tennessee. Gonna be the Wild West don’t ya know. The “news” and hand-wringers said so.2 points

Yep, in Florida all carry is concealed carry and I found myself in a couple of places where weapons were not allowed. I had something else on my mind and just walked right in. When I finally realized I was carrying I just stayed in line. As noted above, concealed means concealed.2 points

Not SHTF-related, but along the lines of movies deviating from the books: Amazon Prime's "Without Remorse" had two things in common with the book: The main character's name, and that he's military. Otherwise, a total deviation from the book. Forgoing my disappointment in its lack of book content, as a movie, it's still pretty lousy. Good action, but that can only carry so much. The dialog is poorly written, though well delivered and the characters are as rote, cliched and forgettable as they come. 1-star. Would not recommend.2 points

When I was a kid my mother used to make squirrel salad, using her recipe for chicken salad but substituting squirrel for chicken. She made a rabbit variant also. Tasted fine to me2 points

A spammer jumped in with a post that was later hidden. I expect that the software still sees the new post even though it's hidden when it pulls new content. I noticed the same thing yesterday when I saw this thread at the top of my feed.2 points

Many years ago working at schools as an outside contractor, I asked a Police officer what was the difference between the knife I carried and the knife a student carried. The answer I was given was this, "mine is a tool, the student's is a weapon". The officer I asked also said at any time I could be charged with a weapons charge if needed. I carry tools every day, I get on the tarmac at the airport and schools grounds with a van full of tools, all can be used as weapons, some as WMDs. I for one am damn tired of worrying about what law I may or may not be breaking!!!2 points

Three-Night Mini-Series 11th-13th Continues Tonight on the HISTORY Channel. I started watching this last night and its pretty interesting. Besides the stories of companies like Kellogg’s, Heinz, and Coke, it talks about things we take for granted. Like refrigeration, and how the FDA came about from so many people getting sick or dying from tainted food, and companies being able to claim anything; true or not. I think you might be able to watch the first night online. Or On-Demand if you have it. https://www.history.com/shows/the-food-that-built-america1 point

All fine and dandy if you're trying not to get busted, but irrelevant if you are in the "THEY AIN'T GETTING MY MONEY" crowd.1 point

Cruel Hand Luke hit the right spot on this: The permit serves as a defense to the law, but carrying is still violating the law. I'm not fully up to speed on the permitless-carry (I have ECP, so don't really care enough to read the details yet) but I suspect it's similarly phrased to "provide a defense" rather than removing the violation in the first place. In theory, a police officer can arrest you, a DA can charge you, and a judge will look at both of them like they're idiots and dismiss the case as the permit provides a valid defense. AFAIK, this has never happened. In the real-world, it's a moot point because no DA in their right mind would EVER charge someone because they know they'll get ripped up one side and down the other by the judge, and no officer would ever arrest for it because they know no DA will ever prosecute it and they'll get ripped up one side and down the other by the DA or their command. But from a legal theory perspective, it's important to understand that the state of TN does NOT recognize carrying in public as a right1 point

I grew up in northeastern Okla. and we had the same trees as you. All I ever hunted small game with was a single shot Iver Johnson single shot .410 that my dad got as a well used hand-me-down around 1920. He told me that somewhere down the line, it had about 3" cut off the barrel. I concur with Luckyforward on the ammo. Don't the signs still have to meet specific criteria in order to be enforced? I didn't think "no guns allowed" was enough. This reminds me of 09 when the guns-in-bars laws passed. Give it some time and all the fear and confusion will pass.1 point

I was afraid more gun buster signs would pop up and, sure enough, I am seeing more of them. This poorly written law is borderline idiotic, but the responses to it are even worse. A left-leaning acquaintance and his buddy know I am a shooter and asked what I thought of the law. They were horrified when I said I thought it was basically irrelevant. "But criminals will be carrying guns" they both replied. When I pointed out that Memphis had 330+ murders last year (most involving guns) and is on track to surpass that number this year and asked if criminals are not already carrying guns, they just sighed and shook their heads. Whoever can't legally carry a gun now still won't be able to under the new law. One acted like this was some sort of revelation. I added that most of the new crime that will result from the new law will be from non-permit holders' confusion about it. Below is an example of the misunderstanding and outright misinformation about the law. A church is beefing up security to get ready for the apparent armed invasion they will face when the law begins: https://www.fox13memphis.com/news/local/local-pastor-encourages-other-churches-add-security-before-permitless-carry-bill-goes-into-effect/BQZGDKPT6FHBJFNIE5TX2KKOD4/ And an erroneous assumption that people who have carry permits are all trained on how to use a gun: https://www.wreg.com/news/gun-violence-surge-possible-with-new-permitless-carry-law-launch-warns-democratic-lawmaker/1 point

I guess I am just slow but what is the definition of "intent to go armed"? I can't wrap my head around that. If I holster my pistol I intending on leaving the house armed. I do have an Enhanced Carry Permit and I do carry but in my opinion TN has some really confusing laws.1 point

I will argue that, I say he did think it all out, just got it wrong in his mind. I will bet he is a LEO reject, and this is as close he could get to being a Police Officer.1 point

Wow! Not that much surprises me anymore these days but how did he plan on that working out? Well, I guess that would require him thinking to begin with huh?1 point

At this time, the CCP has the same reciprocity as the ECP except for North Dakota. Hipower, correct. You now have an ECP and name will be changed at your renewal or you could request a duplicate now - I think- and it would be changed.1 point

I just finished "Crisis" by Kurt Schlichter. This is the fifth book in his Kelly Turnbull AKA People's Republic series. Once again I have to praise Schlichter for an edge of your seat action thriller. I was captured by the story and breezed through it in just three days. For those unfamiliar with the scenario, these stories take place in the near future. The U.S. has had a Civil War in which its Conservatives vs Liberals. In the end, the country is split into two separate nations, The United States and the new ultra liberal People's Republic. These novels follow the adventures of Spec Ops operator Kelly Turnbull as he deals with special problems in this new world. This latest book "Crisis" is a prequel going back to the days just before the split. The country is on a razor's edge as both States and people are choosing their side. Either Red or Blue. Cities are being taken over and open warfare is erupting between the two sides. At this stage its a very active, but yet undeclared Civil War. The plot revolves around Merrick Crane III. A wealthy, powerful and totally evil leftist who claims to be working to free our nation from oppression. In reality, he's doing everything in his power to bring about a Civil War and set himself up as dictator of his vision of the new America. Turnbull is out to stop him. I've mentioned this series before in this thread. I'm a huge fan these books. They're well written, action packed and full of surprises. But the thing that really grabs you is the fact that its entirely plausible.1 point

I know it does. I’m fortunate that in both our families of origin and the family we’ve chosen, we’re around people who get along and love to spend time together. I hope our kids take that with them.1 point

Dang @alleycat72, you and your buddies have definitely found a hot spot of hogs there in TX. I used to hunt south of San Antonio, near Devine, and we'd get maybe three apiece (3 hunters) on a weekend hunt & we had fun & were happy with that. Your setup is sweet, too (night vision & suppressor.) Definitely the way to go. Maybe that's what's helping you all get so many multiples; you aren't nearly as loud as we were, running our unsuppressed guns. And - for the record for those still unsure since it came up earlier - hogs are perfectly fine to eat. Just gut 'em, skin 'em, & get them on ice (in a cooler) quickly. Roasts & sausage were my favorite "wild boar" meats.1 point

19 more down Friday night. Our buddy opened up with his M16. 33 hours from middle Tennessee to Texas and back to Tennessee. Planning 2 to 3 more runs this year. Probably going to do a 2 night hunt October or September. I did laugh my ass off at my buddy. He had a 200 lb hog almost get him with its cutters. I popped it and we discussed his octave range.1 point

Thank you. As this is my first time trying to grow potatoes in a raised bed, it took all of my self control to not go dig some up, just to check, after reading your post! LOL I'm just hoping for a few potatoes to cook with my green beans. Time will tell. I'm sure yours will yield well for you and you'll get that positive ROI! I picked 2 gallon bags of green beans yesterday and will blanch those today to get them in the freezer. I pulled up the remainder of the Swiss chard as the zucchini plants are taking over that 4x8 bed. I'll probably plant some butternut squash as in that bed when the zucchini is finished. Ah, the challenges of limited gardening space. We also got our first 2 vine ripened tomatoes yesterday... slowly getting there. I did can our first kosher dill pickles yesterday. 6 quarts of goodness!1 point

If you don't want to buy an overpriced house or land, Tennessee might not be for you, honestly. Everything is high as a cats back, no matter where you are. Even in the hinterlands of Scott, Fentress and Pickett Counties, prices are high, as lot of outside folk are buying up land for vacation homes and retreats. And there is nothing to rent either. I've never seen anything like it in my 59 years. Now is just not the time to buy a home here. Even modular homes are backlogged by several months.1 point

Look at archeological supplies. They have dirt sifters for every size imaginable. No doubt you could make one work. It’ll take 30 seconds once u get the mesh size you need.1 point

I had been looking for a lever in .35 Remington for awhile. I found this recently and was able to pick it up for a decent price. Was a little surprised when I looked up the date code and found out it was 1957. Now I just need to find some ammo at a decent price.1 point

Make what you need, 2 rods, wooden dowels, put them on an angle, held close, touching at the top, and spread apart at the lower end. Roll the shot down the rods, as the opening gets bigger the smaller shot will drop first.1 point

Went out this morning and did a little coyote calling. 1st stand called in a few cows and a pretty good down pour of rain... moved on to the next place. Called in 3, actually I only saw the one I shot, my buddy said 2 others were coming in from another direction but after shooting the one I ki-yi'd for a couple minutes and turned my curs loose to track him down. (buddy carries a range finder) 249 yrd shot. When I got to where I shot him I looked at my gps (dog collars) they usually have what I've shot bayed up but they were both 67 yards through a fence line. Sure enough there it lay... I called it in with a little buffalo horn barreled call with a hippo tooth tone board I put together a few months ago. I just bought the gun a guess a month ago as a retirement gift to me. Christensen arms Ridgeline in 22-250. My black mouth cur checking him out. My little buffalo horn & hippo tooth ivory call.1 point

Just showing my dogs off here... in my book any kind of hunting is more fun with dogs. They don't help me get more coyotes, but the ones I get are a lot more exciting. These are from various previous hunts1 point

I’m in the “I’m just keeping my head down and hoping not to get noticed by anyone doing anything at all” crowd. That honestly doesn’t even have anything to do with guns. I’m completely terrible at it. Especially with my love of short shorts in RBS, but damn it, I can still dream0 points
