  1. I used to load a lot of .357 Magnum loads with H110, 2400, and IMR4227 with standard pistol primers but, never had a stuck bullet. Shot good but, when I bought a chrono I noticed velocities were all over the place. Magnum primers are more consistant with slower powders.

  2. In my first hand, been there & done that experience, standard CCI 500 small pistol primers failed to ignite the H110 powder of my .357 Mag load. First time, while tapping the stuck bullet out of the barrel/forcing cone juncture, I thought it had to be a fluke so I tried it again. Nope, not a fluke, as I tapped yet another stuck bullet out of the barrel. Lesson learned - if trying to ignite H110 (or W296; same thing), use a small pistol magnum primer (like a CCI 550).

  3. And a bit more searching yields some claims that for the Lee set, the only difference between the two 45 die sets is that the 45GAP set uses a 45Webley expander plug, which is the same as the GAP uses. So if you're looking to load on the cheap, ordering a 45Webley plug might make your set perform double duty. As for me, I don't like setting up dies all the time, so I typically keep a set specifically for whatever caliber, COL, etc. and just add another dies set if I want to load a similar caliber (like 38-357)

  4. As long as there's enough adjustment in the expander and crimping dies, I don't see why not. As I understand it, the case length is the biggest difference. A quick search shows some manufacturers make dies that are used for both 45ACP and 45GAP, so I know it's possible. As for the Lee set, you might contact their tech department and ask ...

  5. I put it off too, but now I'm semi-retired so no more excuses. I was mildly big into CB back in the pre-trucker days when it was more Ham-like in nature (licensed, family-friendly) so I setup a CB shack earlier this year. Still glad I did but it's just not the same as it was. Popularity-wise, now is a good time...not so great a time new equipment-wise due to lingering shortages (chip, etc) from the past year. And license-testing fees will go from $15 per to $35...someday, the FCC is still undecided on when. I took my Tech test remote (via Zoom) but not sure how much longer that option will be around before most testing returns to in-person. So I wouldn't wait too long if any of that matters to you. Equipment-wise, you'll surely hear "buy once, cry once" but I don't have much to spend so went cheap... all new gear from eBay. A couple BF-F8+ HTs and a TYT TH-9800+ quad-band mobile that shares power with my mobile CB from a TekPower TP30 12v P/S, to use as a base. I added a copper J-pole antenna just above the roof line, no problem hit'n the area repeaters; haven't tested simplex TX range yet but RX is very good. Add in the coax, connectors, accessories, etc and all the above was still under $500. Yah, I'll want better down the road if I decide I to stay in the hobby long-term but I can re-purpose the 9800+ as a mobile, the 2-piece J-pole for travel, and the HTs remain handy for basic SHTF (FM, UHF/VHF, GMRS, weather). If the shortages ever end, there should be a glut of better-quality used gear on the market as people sell to upgrade to top-tier....I hope. lol There's a Hamfest coming up soon but probably too soon in that regard.

  8. I know it does. I’m fortunate that in both our families of origin and the family we’ve chosen, we’re around people who get along and love to spend time together. I hope our kids take that with them.

  9. The extractor is a funny story. About 2.5 years ago, my dad and a couple friends went in on a 9-frame motor driven extractor instead of the old hand crank 4-frame they were using. I don’t recall where they were getting it, but when my dad went to pick it up, they could not find the 9-frame unit (that was on sale). The guy let them grab get a 15-frame unit instead. When they got home and unpacked it, it was a 21-frame unit. Deal of the century. I think they paid like $600.

  10. It was enough for fish tacos - and my personal favorite - old Florida style smoked fish dip. The thing about it I love the most is all the kids that we’ve traveled with all the years have come to love the evening when we have a giant dinner of fish tacos with all the fixings. It’s cool to hear them pray and give thanks and really understand God’s blessings.

  11. I fished the surf in the Outer Banks last week. Water was still right at 70F, but good redfish bite and about all the whiting you could want to keep the kids busy. My 12 year old has a formula. She says one whiting equals three fish tacos. We like fish tacos.

  12. Thanks buddy it was a pretty good one. June is a rough month for quality fish due to the spawn but the eater size is out in full force. Took my 14 year old cousin out the trip before catching that hog and boated 25 blues 15lb and under. The bite will get better as we get into July and the fish is done spawning.

  13. It can definitely pay off if you have the components handy. Especially if you can get cast bullets cheaply and or cast them yourself, with cheap lead.

  14. When I first started reloading our rental house was a bit small. I mounted my press and powder unit to a board, and routed some slots to hold my scale and ammo boxes. When it was time to load I clamped that board to the kitchen table or coffee table, and took it down when done (or the wife started bitching). Now that board is (semi) permanently to the workbench in my shed. Not perfect, but it got me loading earlier.

  15. Don't tell those local hams that you have a baofeng - you will get an hour long chastising about what a piece of crap that is & that you need a $900 handheld
