  1. I fished the surf in the Outer Banks last week. Water was still right at 70F, but good redfish bite and about all the whiting you could want to keep the kids busy. My 12 year old has a formula. She says one whiting equals three fish tacos. We like fish tacos.

  2. Ohhhhhhh my........ The hives are in full flow right now! It was too hot to do any real harvesting today, but she collected 4 frames to make some room & harvested 11 pints of honey! We have around 30 more frames to harvest next weekend. VID_86300520_063544_247.mp4

  3. I'm not a "knife guy", I own them for utility purposes. Having said that, this was a great one day training opportunity for guys like me or for "knife guys". I know I need to learn enough to keep someone from using my ignorance against me and that is exactly what I got from the training day. Most of the day was spent on techniques to keep from being turned into a pin cushion and escape/evade a "problem". Randy {Harris} also showed the students different types of knives, how to carry them, and how to use them for defense. In spite of the fact that I don't carry one to use is this context, this part of the day helped me better understand how to defend against them. In other words, another example of a well rounded presentation from Randy covering different aspects of the topic at hand. If you want to learn enough to use for self-defense or if you intend to delve deeper into the subject of knives, this is an excellent place to start.

  5. It was enough for fish tacos - and my personal favorite - old Florida style smoked fish dip. The thing about it I love the most is all the kids that we’ve traveled with all the years have come to love the evening when we have a giant dinner of fish tacos with all the fixings. It’s cool to hear them pray and give thanks and really understand God’s blessings.

  6. Thanks buddy it was a pretty good one. June is a rough month for quality fish due to the spawn but the eater size is out in full force. Took my 14 year old cousin out the trip before catching that hog and boated 25 blues 15lb and under. The bite will get better as we get into July and the fish is done spawning.

  7. I wouldn't over-think the situation. Whether you sell the ammo or give it away, just make it clear to the recipient that the rounds are reloads. I cannot imagine that you're a "manufacturer" in this scenario. I would be hesitant to shoot someone else's reloads, but with the current ammo shortage someone will want it and be grateful for it. But bear in mind I am not an attorney or an expert on the subject, just offering an opinion, which is probably worth the paper its written on.

  8. 19 more down Friday night. Our buddy opened up with his M16. 33 hours from middle Tennessee to Texas and back to Tennessee. Planning 2 to 3 more runs this year. Probably going to do a 2 night hunt October or September. I did laugh my ass off at my buddy. He had a 200 lb hog almost get him with its cutters. I popped it and we discussed his octave range.

  9. I pulled 7 supers off today and extracted about 15 gallons of honey. I probably had another 3 supers worth of partially capped honey. I will pull honey off again late July.

  10. You are oh so right Photoguy, I will trade primers and powder or even give you some, but I refuse to buy from anyone that isn't a reloader. Well Beltfed, with enough ammo you can hold out for quite awhile. I have always said I will let the other guys stockpile gold and silver, I will outlast them with beans and bullets, I am 1100 feet from Dale Hollow lake with more water than I think I will ever need and the means to purify it. I would rather have a stockpile of lead!!

  12. So I built an AR for shooting 22LR as well as 5.56/.223. It was built with a .223 Wylde 1/9 twist barrel, an Anderson lower (thanks Whisper), a blemed upper, a full stock (thanks KahrMan) and a free floating match hand guard. I aquired a cosmetically damaged PSA lower for next to nothing (read less than $30) so i needed to make it better. A buddy of mine got into Cerakoting for an auto restauration he is working on, but wanted to try fire arms. I was game and decided on a mildy two-tone build using a modified Disruptive Grey color (33% Graphite Black-66% Tungsten instead of 25% Graphite Black-75% Tungsten) for the upper, lower, and hand guard and Graphite Black for the stock, forward assist and ejection cover. The smalll bits were already a decent black in the lower build kit. The Cerakoting went great. It does take time to clean, sand blast, de-gas. Since we were doing two colors, we went with the black first. I did the frame of my 92S at the same time. The ABS plastic stock had to cure at a lower temp for 2 hours so we flashed the metal parts at that temp and then used the rest of the plastic cure time to do the Mod-disruptive grey (I need to name it). and flash those. Once the plastic was done we hard cured the metal parts. All in all I was at Scott's house for about 7 hours yesterday. I finished the build out today. I am very happy with the result. There are a few blemishes. It was Scott's first time to spray gun parts. And I dinged the hand guard, and of course the ding ended up at the top once installed, not the bottom. I am still trying to decide if the gas block should match the upper/lower/hand guard. The oven cured Cerakote is rated to about 500 degF. I am not sure how hor a gas block gets. I may have to Kote some other things. I think my inexpensive, parkerized GI model 1911 would look good that color, or a version of that color. The old lower from Whisper will get a new caliber upper (300 BO). Here are some before and after photos.

  13. A few months ago, on here, I picked up a basic, sporterized Turkish Mauser in one of my all time favorite-but-never-owned calibers; .257 Roberts. Well.... I did a little work, spent a little cash & frankly, I can't not love the improvement!

  14. Hello! I'm Melissa, and our family is planning a move to TN. Yes, we are from the dreaded Commifornia, but patriots through and through. It's really gotten ridiculous out here to expect any level of freedom. I'm a firearms instructor, a mom of 6, CCW holder (yes, even here), and a liberty loving, Gadsden flag waving girl, who can't wait to see green grass, hear southern manners, and taste the freedom that our founding fathers provided for. Still determining whether we're going to be closer to Nashville or Knoxville, so feel free to convince us. Our scouting trip is in July. I'm glad to find this forum. Thanks for letting me join. Blessings, Melissa

  15. I know it does. I’m fortunate that in both our families of origin and the family we’ve chosen, we’re around people who get along and love to spend time together. I hope our kids take that with them.

  16. I just happened to surf in while going down a rabbit hole looking for grips for a Ruger Service Six revolver. I grew up in Memphis and my family has been in Tennessee since HRH George III told us not to "go over the mountain". We don't listen well, apparently. I'm retired Air Force AMMO and a retired Veterans Representative. Just glad to be here still.

  19. IANAL, but I don't think money has to change hands. The liability is the same. If they were mine, I'd be willing to give them to a fellow reloader who would sign a letter saying he/she would not fire the reloads and would instead disassemble them and use the components. Simple and should be risk free on your part. It really doesn't have to be any more complicated than a single sentence or two, a signature, and a date. Or better yet, I'd pull the bullets, dump the powder, and hand over the components.

  20. I just got kicked of FB, too, after having an account for just one or two days. I've always avoided it, but recently I wanted to contact a couple of people about motorcycles that were for sale on FB marketplace. So I set up an account with no other purpose but to be able to contact marketplace advertisers. I contacted two sellers and did absolutely nothing else, and I got a message telling me I'd violated FB policy, but no explanation. That's fine, I was hesitant to set up an account anyway and I found the bike I wanted so all is well as far as I'm concerned. My messages contained no political statements at all, and I never use profanity, so who knows what's in the mind of FB monitors? Of course I'm sure they banned Armslist because of selling firearms, which is a blatant political choice on their part. Yeah, they're a private company, but there's definitely a difference given their humongous presence.

  21. Some guys at work used to say, Do you ever stock food and water ? All I hear you talk about is guns and ammo ! Your no preper. My reply is “I don’t need too, when that time comes I’ll just take yours ! Mike

  22. Thank you. As this is my first time trying to grow potatoes in a raised bed, it took all of my self control to not go dig some up, just to check, after reading your post! LOL I'm just hoping for a few potatoes to cook with my green beans. Time will tell. I'm sure yours will yield well for you and you'll get that positive ROI! I picked 2 gallon bags of green beans yesterday and will blanch those today to get them in the freezer. I pulled up the remainder of the Swiss chard as the zucchini plants are taking over that 4x8 bed. I'll probably plant some butternut squash as in that bed when the zucchini is finished. Ah, the challenges of limited gardening space. We also got our first 2 vine ripened tomatoes yesterday... slowly getting there. I did can our first kosher dill pickles yesterday. 6 quarts of goodness!

  23. No it was an open match, no Boy Scouts were there accept to service breakfast. The Boy Scout Council decide they need to make better use of their facility and help pay for the place, so more shooting events was one of the directions they are going. Very nice place and built for large groups obviously.

  25. Looks good Jamie! Had a bear of a time getting anything leafy to sprout (spinach or lettuce). Even the fresh seeds I bought this year wouldn't pop until a few weeks ago. Looking at trying to freeze/can some beans this weekend. I've got a TON planted, and its starting to come in! I picked the blossoms off my taters and hilled them up higher a couple weeks ago. Hoping for a big haul of Kennebec and Pontiac Reds this year. I ran out of the fingerlings I had been growing the last couple years (seed stock rotted), but some volunteers showed up in the upper garden, I'm hoping I can re-start in the fall from those. I purchased some seed potatoes from a place in Maine late last year. Looked gorgeous, very well cared for, albeit pricey... planted them, they took off, grew great big plants, flowered, died back, dug them up... bupkus. Not a single tater harvested. First time I've ever been blanked 100%. This year I have some volunteers in the pasture garden approx where the fancy ones were planted last year.... here's hoping! Get a return on my 45 bucks after 18 months maybe, LOL!

  27. Damn! A Para-Ordnance SF-45-A. These were only offered to active duty troops serving in Iraq back around 2009-10. My son bought two and gave me one. I noticed your unit markings on it and understand how special it is to you. So sorry for the loss. I sincerely hope you can get it back. Damned thieves!

  32. Typically, it's not reloaders. It's people that know there is a shortage so they buy everything they can get their hands on, then turn around and post them for sale with a "slight" mark up. Personally, I wish everyone would refuse to buy from those people and they would be stuck with all the crap they bought.

  33. Where did all these reloaders come from? I go to my local range and a lot of guys ask if I reload. I say yes, and they give me their brass. I’m looking at my primers with price tags from $19 to $31 per 1000 bought years ago. We (reloaders) must be hoarding . If the “shtf”, how long can one hold out. Food, medical supplies, bad water, etc. will get us long before we run out of bullets.

  36. I hit Defeated Creek for an afternoon, then the next morning two weekends ago. BIG bluegill were spawning. Caught around 50 each day on my ultra light running 2lb line and a 1/64oz trout magnet. Fun stuff!

  38. The first gun show after Sandy Hook in 2012, I threw out the idea of looking for a return on investment when reloading, something I had pondered some 20 years before. So I changed my mindset from a cost savings to a model of if I wanted to shoot, and maxed the credit card. But within 6-12 mos most everything went back to normal, and though I reloaded from time to time, found myself resorting back to store bought ammo. Fast forward 8-9 years later, I still have the same mindset of reloading, but now I have the experience and reload virtually all my calibers. Glad I stocked up on a life time supplies of powder, primers, bullets, brass etc. in late 2012. I probably need to dump out the safe of guns in lieu adding all my valuable reloading supplies in the safe. I am heavenly blessed with large and small pistol primers, but none for sell! Ha!
