Ohhhhhhh my........ The hives are in full flow right now! It was too hot to do any real harvesting today, but she collected 4 frames to make some room & harvested 11 pints of honey! We have around 30 more frames to harvest next weekend. VID_86300520_063544_247.mp46 points

Nice! I look to have 10 medium 8-frame supers full of honey this year. I have added one more super to the short hive ( it was a swarm I caught this year).3 points

My guess (and there is no way to know) is that someone bought that, swapped it out and returned it. Amazon didn’t actually check it and placed it back in stock so you got the bunk item.3 points

Just got home from vacation and found my M1 waiting for me/ Here are some fresh out o the box pics, pre-cleaning. This is a Postal Meter Very Good - Fine grade: The splotches on the wood appear to just be on the surface. It's either a dried substance or perhaps some mildew/mold. It scratches off easily with a fingernail (which was promptly washed). Any suggestions on cleaning the wood? With my old Mosins I just scrubbed the wood with Simple Green and rinsed them off with clean (ish) water....they were $80 Mosins. I suspect I may need to be a bit more diligent about this one. I was thinking Murphy's oil soap would do the trick. What say you? The metal looks to be in great shape. No significant wear that I saw off hand. No rust. The wood has no cracks, but has the usual dents, dings,, etc. The barrel is marked Underwood 3-43. I'll get some better pics, including the bore after cleaning. P.S. I can confirm the email from Midway posted above is legit. I received the same one.2 points

Thanks for posting. I avoid amazon at all costs. I've had used items sent before. Not to mention their political agenda, which is enough for me personally. YMMV. +1 on Kenzie and Primary Arms. Had great service from both. I'd rather pay more and support a small company than save a few dollars and feed the machine. My 2 cents.2 points

Well since we are talking snake stories I have one from years back. I had an older brother that was crippled from polio when he was 4 years old and he could do most things for himself because we had his home built to make him independent. He worked for the Federal Government as an accountant. Well when you live alone if something is moved in your house you will know it. He kept coming home from work and things had been moved in his house several times in a week. Nothing big, little nick knacks on end tables and coffee table, a coffee cup knocked of the kitchen counter and broke so he called me and ask me to come up and search his house so I did but didn't find anything. The problem went on for a second week and I had a day off and a key and I had him open all the drapes so I could watch from outside. About 4 hours into the morning moving from room to room looking I spotted the problem. He had a chicken snake about 8 feet long in the house. I watched and waited for it to move into a room it could be caught easily and I went in and caught the snake in under his bed. I used a broom to sweep it out from under the bed and grabbed it. I put it in a box and waited for him to come home and showed it to him. We both wondered how it had gotten into the house and finally figured out, it came down the Chimney. He had Barn Swallows that had built nests in the chimney and had babies in the nests and there was a tree next to the house. The snake climbed up the tree and began to climb into the chimney and evidently fell to the bottom and out into the house. I took the snake home and released it in the woods behind my house. Soon as all the baby Swallows had left the chimney and flown away I went back to my brothers house and put a hardware cloth screen over the top of the chimney so no more birds or snakes could get in it.2 points

My wife and I had to save a family of Carolina Wrens from a rat snake this evening. I’m not sure how it got to the box on the side of the house but I heard a commotion and saw the snake half in the box. Must have dropped down from a tree branch. By the time I could get to the box it was all the way inside. We saved 4 of the 6 soon to be fledglings. Once I got the snake out, I relocated it across the street and we put the baby birds back in the nest. I know it was interfering with the circle of life and all that jazz, but we have been watching the baby wrens grow. The snake can eat some other birds2 points

You can't . You can improve your skills by playing some of the tactical shooting games and going to school but in the end your mind set determines how you will react to having a gun pulled on you or being shot at .2 points

The benefit of doing it this way is the attention, or lack thereof. I'm not talking about with us, we track these things pretty well...but you all should know we're one side of the spectrum on gun issues. Using the route of delegated regulatory moves makes it so the Congress isn't debating it for puic consumption. Democrats don't have to go out on a limb for it, since the issue is an election risk and a distraction from the rest of their agenda. Plus, if you haven't noticed, Republicans aren't in any hurry to raise a stink, or negotiate for these rules to be blocked via legislation; silence equals consent there in my book. Something like this is always been the greatest danger when Congress lets the federal agencies decide what's what. It absolves them of responsibility, and keeps them away from having to do the pesky scut work of governing on specifics that don't move the needle politically.2 points

Guys. I know I don’t post much. Mainly just a lot of reading to learn. Well it’s time for me to do a little teaching If you do not have one of GT’s knives get one or two I have several custom made knives and have wanted to get one of Grand Torino’s because they look good. In the past I have always been a day late and yeah sometimes a dollar short. But NOT THIS TIME. His craftsmanship is top shelf. The fit and finish on this knife is probably the best these hands have held. And the edge( while not yet proven) is super sharp I am rough on a knife and I’m sure to do a follow up on how well it preforms GT. Thank You Sir1 point

I've become an admirer of Holosun red dot sights after outstanding experience with two of their sights, and a few days ago I ordered a third -- the one a 507K X2 model. Knowing that some online optics vendors sell counterfeit items, I ordered this one through Amazon from the Holosun Store, figuring from their name that I'd be assured of getting the real thing. It arrived yesterday and here's what I found in the package -- apparently a genuine Holosun box and manual, but inside the case is a West Lake red dot sight -- a cheap knockoff, and not even a knockoff of the 507K, but a different model. Back it goes. But I'll not be ordering again from the Holosun Store.1 point

Back in December ( or it could have been Nov, ) I got up from my chair to go to the bathroom and saw what looked like a ribbon laying in the floor. As I got close, it headed for the bookcase so I realized it was a small snake. The bookcase is on those super slider things so I slid it out and sure enough it was a skinny little rat snake. It was about 16-18 inches long and maybe 3/4" in diameter. I grabbed it and started to get up off the floor ( this requires me to hang onto something ) and it wrapped it's tail around a spindle of the end table, pulled out of my hand and hauled ass. It was under the china cabinet in the dining room and I wasn't about to move it. It was also bedtime so I decided to look the next morning. Not going into what all is in the dining room, but let's say there is a lot of places for it to hide so I decided we could co-exist until he showed up again. It's not unusual for my dog to bark at things outside the front door but today I was sitting here at the computer and she started barking right beside me. After I got myself off the ceiling I saw she was going from one end of the dresser to the other and was interested in something behind it. Flashlight in hand, I started checking and sure enough Mr. Snake was behind there. It was too far back to get hold of so I used one of those reacher things with the rubber cups on the ends to get hold of it. We played tug-of-war for a few minutes but I finally got him out so I could get hold of him. He'd done a little growing, now he was about 3' long and about 2" in diameter. He is now an outside snake.1 point

I know this is an older thread. I tried to get one of the Caldwell Chronographs going. In the end I got a refund. It was not possible to connect to the Android phone. I was able to find a NOS Chrony. Chrony is now out of business. Chrony was vastly superior to the Caldwell. Anything Franlin Armory and the other Midway brands tends to be problematic.1 point

I was at Sportsmans Warehouse in Chattanooga yesterday. No powder or primers on the shelves, limited selection of bullets. They did have several boxes (500 ct) of 9mm in the 115-125gr range. I don't reload for handguns, so don't quote me on the weights. One box limit, but if you're looking for something, Also had some 556 FMJ bullets as well. Prices ranged from $150-200 for the 500 ct boxes depending on contents.1 point

Amazon is so damn easy to order from and usually great prices. I've seen may stories like this...makes me afraid to order anything of substance from them. I also hate how a search turns up shady results. I just picked up a new Holosun HE507k-GR-x2. Didn't trust Amazon, Optics Planet farts around with their availability, so ordered it from Kenzies Optics. Got a 10% discount so got a great price, free shipping and a really fast delivery. Haven't tested it yet, but looks really great.1 point

Thanks for sharing your experience, which should save others from the same trouble. Amazon becomes more & more like eBay every day. You just never seem to know if you will get the genuine product or not.1 point

I put some rubber snakes up on the beams that support the porch roof to deter the barn swallows. One started a nest right next to the snake.1 point

The model you posted a pic of looks like a early 43 or pre 43 which is a J frame. The 63 Garufa linked is the same frame but different (larger) grip. That can always be swapped for a smaller grip if you need/want it. Fixed vs adjustable sights depends on the model you're considering. The top gun in the pic is a model 34 kit gun with adjustable sights1 point

Agreed, but I suspect that this is is going to be the norm for a while. And may be the norm from now on. Who knows. I don't blame you, but you might want to just hang on to it too.1 point

I own one acre. As long as the snakes are nowhere on that acre, I'm OK with them. If they're on the property, let alone in the house, I immediately go into territorial killer extinction-level mode (maybe not immediately, sometimes it's preceded by a brief bout of screaming like a little girl). I know all the arguments about how beneficial snakes are, "good" snakes and "bad" snakes, etc. As far as I'm concerned, they're all deadly psychopaths bent on murder and mayhem ...1 point

I have a 1885 singie shot that been relined. I wonder if anybody would that on an 1873. It would be one way to get around the pits etc. Also, sometime back I had a Springfield trapdoor that look like the sewer pipe. I left the gun in a rack. I would go buy and add Kroil. As it turned out it was worth the effort. The bore cleaned up but with still some scattered pits. The rifle was shootable and gave decent accuracy. Point being give the barrel some cleaning.1 point

They can change the senate rules if they have enough votes. They don't thanks to Manchin and Sinema.1 point
-
I thought they had a way around the filibuster? I guess I'm still skeptical they have enough votes in the Senate to pass anything substantial. Also, above all else, Democrats care about getting re-elected. I think they know gun control isn't as popular as they pretend. We'll see though. Wish folks would chill out so I can buy 9mm again sometime this decade.1 point

I agree. The pesky filibuster has the agenda bogged down in the Senate. Thank goodness!1 point

They sure seem to be hell bent on it. That pesky filibuster is in the way. Not saying it isn't all vote pandering. Just saying that they would if they could. They already have in every big blue state in the country.1 point

I wonder what they are waiting on. 2021 has been full of violence and mass shootings yet they haven't passed anything. Mid terms will be here before we know it. It does seem like it's all been lip service. If they were hell bent on passing gun control they haven't shown it. Hopefully it stays that way.1 point

Actually, I think it's kind of cool that they're making these available to those who purchased their carbines. As for your email, it's also possible that the person who responded had no idea whether these were available or not, as it's likely that these haven't been entered into their inventory yet and some random guy keying in email responses has no idea what's in the pipeline or what might become available, other than what pops up on his screen when he searches ...1 point

Those public comments are there for a reason. And, they have some weight. Or at least they did before they figured out that the general public really IS that stupid.1 point

The grading proposed for SBRs will be tomorrow’s grade for an assault rifle. It will be #1 hunting rifle to #4 assault rifle. Scope( 1 point), magazine (2 points), simi-auto (3 points) NFA or else.1 point

at the optimism and short memory of gun owners. If the ATF decides a gun is this, that, or the other, it is law until the courts decide otherwise. Bump stock ban...direct order of DJT. This new proposal is a quagmire designed for one thing and one thing only. Read the grading proposal. Congress has nothing to do with it and when the obligatory public comments are dismissed then the new regulation takes effect. It will carry the weight of law.1 point

Got curious about these Danish/Italian Garands and did a little quick research. Apparently, when Denmark surplussed the remainder of their non-US owned rifles, Century International bought the majority of them. A few were directly imported into the US, then their import certs on the rest were denied (guessing pressure from commercial manufacturers, which got a lot of imports denied over the years). So, Century sent most of these to Canada, where a lot were them dissasembled, receivers stripped, and the rest sent on into the US as "parts kits". SARCO, at the time, had a huge inventory of USGI receivers, so a person could buy the Century parts kit for $250, add a SARCO receiver for $100, and assemble a working Garand. Later, Century figured out there was more money in actually building the rifles back, so they bought up receivers and re-assembled the complete rifles after importing them to themselves in the US. An interesting little tidbit of milsurp history ...1 point

I think that having an "insurance" policy in place is a great thing, especially if you carry outside the home. I believe what is even more important is to increase your understanding of what is actually legal and how the legal forces that can work against you will analyze your actions. Knowledge will make you a whole lot less likely to end up in a situation you where you need the coverage that you have. After really following Andrew Branca and watching him tear apart cases and incidents as well as content from Active Self Protection on YouTube, CCW Safe and others, it is amazing how I have learned. I am constantly hearing people in our community who have been around a long time say things that are just not at all accurate (to put it nicely). Much of this information can be obtained for free or is generated by the companies and individuals associated with them, that we are discussing.1 point

You should also look at the Springfield XD-M. I bought one when it first came out, great gun. I much prefer the feel in hand when compared to the Glocks, at least the 20 and 29SF of which I owned both. just another option.1 point

Just for your information, The barrel thread shank is identical to the Winchester 1892 being 20 TPI x about .808 . The only thing you would have to do aside from head space is cut a second extractor like notch at 6:00 for the bolt face extension. Also, I would put about a 75-80 percent chance that the barrel will clock to the correct depth and head space to be good right off the git go. Winchesters held really close spec on the 73 & 92. To me, if you have a sewer pipe bore, that pretty much kills any REAL excitement for the gun other than a historical artifact. If you barrel it with a good 92 barrel and turn it into a shooter, making it a mongrel that can put down a varmint or flip a can reliably, its well worth the different print model on the barrel. Ebay usualy has numerous original barrels in various shape and prices. 32-20 is very common to see swap out barrels on Ebay. Heres my 1892 with a Jap Winchester 357 chambered 73 barrel screwed on. Originally a rotted out 25-20 octagon.1 point
