Back in December ( or it could have been Nov, ) I got up from my chair to go to the bathroom and saw what looked like a ribbon laying in the floor. As I got close, it headed for the bookcase so I realized it was a small snake. The bookcase is on those super slider things so I slid it out and sure enough it was a skinny little rat snake. It was about 16-18 inches long and maybe 3/4" in diameter. I grabbed it and started to get up off the floor ( this requires me to hang onto something ) and it wrapped it's tail around a spindle of the end table, pulled out of my hand and hauled ass. It was under the china cabinet in the dining room and I wasn't about to move it. It was also bedtime so I decided to look the next morning. Not going into what all is in the dining room, but let's say there is a lot of places for it to hide so I decided we could co-exist until he showed up again. It's not unusual for my dog to bark at things outside the front door but today I was sitting here at the computer and she started barking right beside me. After I got myself off the ceiling I saw she was going from one end of the dresser to the other and was interested in something behind it. Flashlight in hand, I started checking and sure enough Mr. Snake was behind there. It was too far back to get hold of so I used one of those reacher things with the rubber cups on the ends to get hold of it. We played tug-of-war for a few minutes but I finally got him out so I could get hold of him. He'd done a little growing, now he was about 3' long and about 2" in diameter. He is now an outside snake.5 points

I assume that you are single. There is no way in h-e-double-toothpicks that my wife would allow me to wait around to remove a snake from the house. Congrats on the win!3 points

Yes, he's not too popular around here. However, that's been the case pretty much from the start. I also doubt that many members here were ever convinced of his credibility or truthfulness, long before any of the emails and other conversations became public ...3 points

The benefit of doing it this way is the attention, or lack thereof. I'm not talking about with us, we track these things pretty well...but you all should know we're one side of the spectrum on gun issues. Using the route of delegated regulatory moves makes it so the Congress isn't debating it for puic consumption. Democrats don't have to go out on a limb for it, since the issue is an election risk and a distraction from the rest of their agenda. Plus, if you haven't noticed, Republicans aren't in any hurry to raise a stink, or negotiate for these rules to be blocked via legislation; silence equals consent there in my book. Something like this is always been the greatest danger when Congress lets the federal agencies decide what's what. It absolves them of responsibility, and keeps them away from having to do the pesky scut work of governing on specifics that don't move the needle politically.2 points

Here is Sleepy Joe's executive action verbatim on April 7. The Justice Department, within 60 days, will issue a proposed rule to make clear when a device marketed as a stabilizing brace effectively turns a pistol into a short-barreled rifle subject to the requirements of the National Firearms Act. The alleged shooter in the Boulder tragedy last month appears to have used a pistol with an arm brace, which can make a firearm more stable and accurate while still being concealable. So here is their proposed rule, made within 60 days. The ATF has made their proposal and that's all Sleepy Joe promised, he can now blame the right for whatever reason it doesn't fly. It's just the backside of his political lip service to his base. The Dems know gun control is not popular right now and they want to be elected in 2022. As long as the backlash draws enough attention this has no traction.2 points

Academy in Johnson City had several flavors of 9mm the other night. Limit 2 boxes. Not pre pricing, but not gouging. I think all these hyped proposals have no hope, and they know it. They are for show and to guage support and opposition. I am more afraid of them sneaking something in at the back of some other 2000 page bill. That is the normal MO. Misdirection has worked well for them in the past.2 points

I wonder what they are waiting on. 2021 has been full of violence and mass shootings yet they haven't passed anything. Mid terms will be here before we know it. It does seem like it's all been lip service. If they were hell bent on passing gun control they haven't shown it. Hopefully it stays that way.2 points

Honest question. Is it really worth paying $14.50 entrance fee to go look at overpriced ammo & guns? What's the draw anymore? Haven't been to a gun show in years.2 points

I picked up a department G36K which had an awful hydro dip on the entire gun. I don’t think they even broke the gun down and just dipped it in one assembly. Here are some before and after pics. All parts were restored with the exception to the folding stock. They cut the stock and spliced it to shorten it so it was trash. It’s definitely seen some use and the natural sheen on the black polymer has worn off but it still functions perfectly. You can also see the difference in the sheen between my other G36K which is in like new condition. Just waiting on. New mechanical rear sight to finish it up.1 point

Buy once, cry once. I'd advise as others have to save up and get what you want. I have two of them and they are great fun to shoot. I haven't ever known quality milsurp firearms to go down in value. A while back, I paid more than I would have ever dreamed for a nice 1911 A1. I'm glad I did. I've bought lots of junk through the years trying to save a buck, and rarely was I glad I did.1 point

If you think the standard carbine is fun, you oughta try this. Its a hoot! I actually once shot a 3 gun match with it. The other guys just looked and shook their heads. But I didn't do half bad. i even out scored some guys with decked out ARs.1 point

Yeah, I know, everybody hates it. But I thought I'd show my 21st Century updated carbine one more time just for S&G. Don't worry. The other one is just like Uncle Sam issued them.1 point

Glad you got you house guest. Funny story, 31 years ago we moved in to our first and only house, yes we are still in it. I get up the first day to a noise coming from the closet, look and find 2 rat snakes making bacon. Wife goes off and runs out side. I get the snakes out with no worries, I know what a good snake looks like. Now the wife is mad as a wet hen, tells me if there is any more snakes she is leaving. a few days latter I find another rat snake under the water heater, no, I did not tell my wife. A few years latter we, the wife, 2 kids and my self walk down to the road, We have to cross a low water bridge. I am at the road, wife and kids, son 4, daughter is 3, are on the bridge. wife screams LOUD, I look back and she is 30 feet away back up the drive, kids still on the bridge, with a 3 foot water snake! I am still giving her a hard time about leaving the kids on the bridge. At that time we had a stray dog that took up with us and came running when the wife screamed, by that time I had moved the shake off.1 point

The KCI mags are Korean made and very highly regarded, at least the 15 rounders are from what I hear. The Koreans know a thing or two about M1 Carbines. Regardless, it’s still not the same as having a USGI mag, which every carbine deserves. It’s just part of the fascinating history of those little rifles.1 point

It's all lip service right ? Until it isn't. Joebama said back in March when press were "aggressive" with him it's all about timing. I for one believe him1 point

Only through the process of reconciliation, which applies ( as part of the law authorizing this process) only to issues about monetary items in the budget. Gun control is not one of those, so reconciliation can't be used to pass it in the evenly divided Senate. Of course, that's assuming that they could get all of the current Democrat members to vote for whatever bill is up, a process that's proving difficult. Back in 2013, after the Connecticut school shooting, the Democrats had a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate, yet couldn't pass as much as a background check bill due to the reluctance of some of their members to pass any gun-related legislation which might lead to a loss in the next election (the Republicans controlled the House at the time, so it was probably a moot point anyway). If they couldn't corral all their members into voting for such measures then, it's unlikely they could do the same now, so gun control bills are essentially dead for the current Senate term. There are advantages to the "partisan gridlock" we hear so much about ...1 point

True, but it's also possible that they got carbines with no mags, or maybe mags with no carbines. Obviously, they've managed to source some mags from somewhere, now they get to sell these too. My bet is they're allowing the M1 buyers first choice to keep those folks from jumping their butts about selling carbines without them, then turning around and offering mags ...1 point
-
Actually, I think it's kind of cool that they're making these available to those who purchased their carbines. As for your email, it's also possible that the person who responded had no idea whether these were available or not, as it's likely that these haven't been entered into their inventory yet and some random guy keying in email responses has no idea what's in the pipeline or what might become available, other than what pops up on his screen when he searches ...1 point

Those public comments are there for a reason. And, they have some weight. Or at least they did before they figured out that the general public really IS that stupid.1 point

Got curious about these Danish/Italian Garands and did a little quick research. Apparently, when Denmark surplussed the remainder of their non-US owned rifles, Century International bought the majority of them. A few were directly imported into the US, then their import certs on the rest were denied (guessing pressure from commercial manufacturers, which got a lot of imports denied over the years). So, Century sent most of these to Canada, where a lot were them dissasembled, receivers stripped, and the rest sent on into the US as "parts kits". SARCO, at the time, had a huge inventory of USGI receivers, so a person could buy the Century parts kit for $250, add a SARCO receiver for $100, and assemble a working Garand. Later, Century figured out there was more money in actually building the rifles back, so they bought up receivers and re-assembled the complete rifles after importing them to themselves in the US. An interesting little tidbit of milsurp history ...1 point

Let them know what you think, EVERY gun owner needs to send a comment, whether you like/use braces or not, not like some did for the bump-stocks and side with the ATF. https://www.gunowners.org/action/?vvsrc=%2fcampaigns%2f86078%2frespond1 point

They are just following up on Sleepy Joe's executive actions. I think they will back right off if there is sufficient negative backlash, which if we do our job there will be.1 point

I have put in some comments asking for ruling to be withdrawn. Maybe if they get enough it might help. A mute point at this time if you have a braced weapon or not. This ruling is a serious hit on the 2nd Amendment and is only the beginning. Much more so than the previous Bump Stock ruling. I always regretted not writing my elected representatives, ATF and the President on that one even though personally I did not think much of Bump Stocks.1 point

If you don't want to buy an overpriced house or land, Tennessee might not be for you, honestly. Everything is high as a cats back, no matter where you are. Even in the hinterlands of Scott, Fentress and Pickett Counties, prices are high, as lot of outside folk are buying up land for vacation homes and retreats. And there is nothing to rent either. I've never seen anything like it in my 59 years. Now is just not the time to buy a home here. Even modular homes are backlogged by several months.1 point

It killed a lot of people. Just not as many as they said. It's exactly like racism. If you talk to the folks that profit from it, it's WAY bigger than it really is. Promoters gonna promote.1 point

A month ago the price for a decent USGI M1 Carbine was about $1000. Yesterday it was $1200-1400. Tomorrow the Midway rifles go on sale and who knows what the "going" rate will be after that. The age of cheap Mil-Surps is gone. Never to return. If you want one, now is the time regardless of price.1 point
-
Fair warning, the market prices for milsurps has only gone upwards in the last decade or so. Unless you get one handed down to you or manage to score one of those deals that folks talk about for years, these prices are likely as cheap as you’re going to see them. They’ll only go up from here. Sadly, 5 -10 years from now we will look back on these as being affordable.1 point

I can't help on all of your questions, but here's this: 1. It is legal for a felon to hunt with bows and with antique (black powder) arms and to take hunter safety courses in Tennessee. You can take the course online: https://www.tn.gov/twra/hunting/hunter-education/online-hunting-education.html 2. I don't know anything specific about western Tennessee but I know that the firing range at Long Hunter State Park does not require a background check to shoot on the range. I assume it follows the same rules as all other state ranges. But I'd be careful not to handle anyone's modern firearm while on the range. 3. No help here; I'm in Middle Tennessee. Stay clean and straight, and good luck to you. I applaud you for wanting to stay within the law. Cheers, Whisper1 point

I own one acre. As long as the snakes are nowhere on that acre, I'm OK with them. If they're on the property, let alone in the house, I immediately go into territorial killer extinction-level mode (maybe not immediately, sometimes it's preceded by a brief bout of screaming like a little girl). I know all the arguments about how beneficial snakes are, "good" snakes and "bad" snakes, etc. As far as I'm concerned, they're all deadly psychopaths bent on murder and mayhem ...0 points
