  1. Stopped in a Bass pro in Prattville Alabama today on way home from Florida. They had quite a big pile of federal 124grain 9mm. $19.99 for a box of 50, limit 5 boxes. Not a bargain by any means, but I was encouraged to actually see so much there available. They also had quite a bit of 5.56 and .223 available too.

  3. Aren't most if not all primer manufacturers also ammo mfgs? They use most of the primers to load for those that can't or won't load their own. Folks that reload are at the bottom of the heap and are offered the leftovers.

  4. Ive carried my LCP 1 for nearly a decade.. Probably put a few thousand rounds through it with no failures in memory. Ive put a few recoil springs in it, not failure related just as upkeep.

  6. This guy has repeatedly broken his oath to support and defend the Constitution. Of course, that is what passes for normal these days in DC. But someone should bring up that he has promised in these hearings to violate the 2nd Amendment as much as he can. The whole Waco involvement just points out how much of a sick character he is.

  7. All of the recent scammer activity on TGO and other big gun forums uses the same tactic: A new "member" registers for an account and immediately sends a private message to legitimate members of the community with an alleged off-site, out of state contact, who either has the item they want to buy or is wanting to buy the item they have to sale. To date 100% of this activity has been fraudulent. In order to make it harder for these scum to operate in the shadows, I am considering the following changes to TGO: Placing all new members into a category that forbids them from being able to send a private message until X-Number of days have passed since registering, or X-Number of posts have been made in other areas, or some combination of the two. If a person wants to bypass that restriction, they can buy a Benefactor subscription, at which point we have a way to track them down if they do something illegal. Otherwise they participate by providing meaningful content for a brief period of time, after which they can send private messages. What do you all say about this plan?

  9. Lots of folks are using small rifle primers in small pistol cartridges, mainly due to the shortage of small pistol primers. Some Open division USPSA shooters use small rifle primers in their major power factor 9mm and .38 Super loads anyway. Small rifle primers will work, but are harder and may cause light strikes and ignition issues with handguns that aren't hammer-fired (and some that are). Also, I don't remember the specifics, but some rifle primers are slightly taller and may not be seated as deeply as pistol primers. I would not mess with the flash hole.

  11. I went with the lemon juice marinade, but topped them with bacon. I’ll let you know how it turns out. Not sure why the directions said to rinse off the marinade and pat dry before smoking, but what the heck? I did it. so far everything smells good.

  12. Thats an interesting break for sure. It looks like a crystalline break. If it's a factory screw up, the ring would be harder than it should be. Maybe you can take a good sharp file and see if it makes an easy cut on the edge by the crack. If it just glances off without cutting some metal off, Its a factory defect. The red color tells me its a casting since the lost wax process of casting puts a fine amount of silicone in the casted surface and hence the redish color. The rings are silver soldered on and that takes around 2000 deg to get a good flow between the parts. If the part was cooled too quickly it would exceed its required Rockwell hardness and be on the brittle side. The file trick is a basic indicator if you dont happen to have a Rockwell C testor in your garage... Another thing folks do is tighten the cap with plyers. Not a good idea. I had an 870 as a duty shotgun for 18 years and by the numbers, your "supposed to" all ways test the cap for tight with fingers only at each shift rotation. Too tight a cap and expanding barrel heat can create undue stress on the ring and weld. To bad Rem went belly up..... I would have sent it back to see if you would have gotten a free bee.

  14. It’s simple really. The more vague the Democrats can make the law, the more guns they can confiscate from you and make you have to go to court to fight to keep them. Most can’t afford to do that and they know this. Voting with feelings and emotions (I want to vote for the first black/woman/Mexican/ muslim President etc...) rather than your brain most always has consequences and disaster.

  16. While I appreciate your responses in this thread, I think we're wasting our time. It's the same folks saying the same things and asking the same questions since last year. We've answered the same questions multiple times and they come back the next week to ask it again as if they really want to know the answer. I've only seen a few people who I thought were willing to look at it objectively and came to ask questions with any sincerity.

  17. I carried a Star PD .45 for many years. The XDs .45 is the first pistol that came along that was worth retiring the Star. I've carried the XDs for a couple of years now and the more I use it, the more I like it. I also have a KelTec P3AT I use when it's too hot to carry the XDs. As long as I use nice, hot ammo, it is 100% reliable. I also like the original Remington model 51 in .380. Mostly just because it fits my hand so nicely! But it's also 100% reliable.

  18. I wonder if the bastard ever thinks about what he and his people did at Waco? I'm not saying David Koresh was a saint but, a lot of innocent people died there. And I don't think the Government had any business there.

  20. And Illinois LEO's are not known for their intimate familiarity with the law as to transportation of firearms. I've heard some horror stories from friends with Illinois State Police about their troopers, and local sheriff departments as well. I agree with "avoid it" as much as possible.

  22. BE WARNED: SCAMMERS ARE ACTIVELY WORKING AGAINST THE GUN COMMUNITY ON TGO AND OTHER INTERNET FORUMS IN THE BUY/SELL/TRADE AREAS. Folks, lately we have seen a significant uptick in scam attempts that go like this: You post an ad for an item for sale or wanted. A scammer contacts you about the item you are selling or looking for and offers to put you in contact with a friend or relative in Texas or some other state. Throughout the whole thing, your Spidey Sense is tingling and telling you it seems suspicious... because it is! We strongly recommend that you stick to dealing with local Tennessee residents only and that you use forms of payment that are guaranteed, secured, and cannot be retracted once the sale completes. For example, you don't want to sell someone something via Venmo or PayPal, only to have them reverse the charge later after they have possession of what you were selling. TGO remains a great place to buy and sell privately, but please be cautious and smart. And please do not hesitate to report anything suspicious to us! On behalf of myself, @MacGyver and the moderating team - thanks and be safe.

  26. Yesterday, I attended the most valuable and humbling class imaginable. I knew that “Fighting Inside The Box” by Norsemen Training and Consulting Group http://www.norsementcg.com was going to be very challenging, but it far surpassed my expectations. It was obvious that a lot of thought and planning went into this class and the instructors were absolutely phenomenal. We began with about an hour of in classroom instruction and safety discussion. There was a lot of thought provoking conversation around defending yourself and others. Prior to entering the safe training area outside, we went through a triple check procedure and our firearms were flagged through the barrel and ejection port to indicate they were clear and safe. Next, we learned and practiced some very up close maneuvers. It was very stressful having a gun (even though it was triple checked for safety) pointed at me and equally uncomfortable for me having to point mine at a friend/classmate. I have been trained for years to never point a gun at something I did not intend to kill. That is a very powerful lesson and took a bit of time to overcome. I really questioned several times during class if I should even be carrying knowing the tremendous responsibility it is. You must be very cognizant about who and why you are shooting. Who is behind the attacker and is the attacker indeed a deadly threat to you or a loved one? As the class progressed from dry firing, role playing, and simulations, we progressed to live fire. I was amazed at how badly I did when the targets were moving unlike anything I have encountered in the monthly bug (back up gun) match at www.windrockshootingrange.com. I have been drawing from a holster for close to 5 years now and have taken several classes. During the stressful drills where I need to draw and move and shoot at the same time, I couldn’t even remember how to hold the gun! It was extremely eye opening to me how much I didn’t know and how much practice I still need. At the end, we did some really intense force on force scenarios with airsoft guns. My scenario was walking up on a man holding a gun on another man and they were screaming at each other. The guy begs me to shoot saying “help, this guy is going to kill me”. I just froze, even knowing it was a toy, the chaos and a gun pointed at someone scared the crap out of me. (It is not like watching movies, that is for sure). Then the guy holding the gun says he’s the police while the guy with his hands up is yelling that he is going to kill him. Instead of running for cover, I stood there like an idiot with my hand on my gun and my mind went blank. After what seemed like an eternity, I was able to articulate and asked to see a badge. Sure enough, it was an undercover cop trying to make an arrest. I saw the badge and retreated. It really made me think about what happens in real life when people legally carrying guns think they are helping but don’t know the full story. The whole class really opened my eyes to the stress, confusion and thought process that you would go through if a deadly force situation presented itself. I learned that I need a lot more practice and training, but this class was an incredible experience and I am so grateful Norsemen Training and Consulting Group is offering such real life training at www.windrockshootingrange.com. I also wanted to mention that safety was emphasized the entire day. The class size was kept small and even called in a 3rd instructor during the most complex maneuvers. They were all extremely knowledgeable and did an incredible job. I can’t wait for part 2! I understand there is a second class in May since this one filled up so quickly. If interested, contact Eric at Windrock Shooting Range!

  29. Y’all, I am broken hearted to report that our own, Michael Douchette, @Steelharplost his battle with COVID today. Mikey was a beloved member here going back almost as far as the forum itself. We shared meals together, many bought guns from him out at the shop where he worked, and he was just a joy of a person. If you’re a fan of country music, you’ve heard his work. He played pedal steel and dobro for just about everyone out there. His loss will be felt on the forum, and in this city. The world is less bright without him in it.
