Red and all, I appreciate the offer and the info. I thought about it and realized the lifetime benefactor membership was not that much money to pay considering how much help I have received from this board, so I went ahead and pulled the trigger, so to speak. I will post my items in the Classifieds now, thank you all-FFR1910, aka Bill Allen16 points

I will pay for your membership. you make the effort to work out he details. Have a MOD send me a PM.14 points

Gun Owners Club will work, but I will tell you that a benefactor membership here is well worth the meager cost. It helps pay the bills to keep this great forum running.8 points

I DON’T know. That’s the thing. I wouldn’t want traffic on that bridge until I did know. As far as the interstate system, it was mostly built in the 60’s and 70’s as a means for military equipment to be transported efficiently. It was an afterthought that the motoring public could actually use it too. Those bridges are ALL pushing 60 years old. We are coming to a place shortly where there will be an astronomical bill due to replace them. Anything mam makes has a limited lifespan.5 points

Well they may not have a real plan of action yet. But in typical government fashion, they quickly found somebody to blame.4 points

I'm not saying the didn't deserve getting fired. He most definitely did. What I'm saying is that government wasted no time at all in finding someone to blame. That's their normal procedure.3 points

I load 4.5gr pushing a 230gr bullet. 7,000gr per pound. So 7,000/4.5 =1,555.5 reloads per pound.3 points

This is probably true, but I tend to believe the fact that our infrastructure is in need of massive upgrading. I'm sure this group has their own agenda, but there is some good info here. https://infrastructurereportcard.org/3 points

This is just one reason to be here. Good people, fellowship, and help when you need it. Where else would a complete stranger pay for your joining a group?3 points

I joined here specifically to use the trader listing several years ago. Greg, is right, a membership here is one of the great bargains in the shooting world.3 points

I just left bass pro in Memphis at Sycamore view they have lots of 308 and .223 but they also had five boxes of small rifle primers. One of them was regular small rifle the others were magnum. They were selling them for $54 a box per 1000. If you get there quick there may be two left.2 points

One thing I agree on with the Libs is there are way too many people in the world. I remember in the 70's the WHO was really big on that message. But since the message didn't gain traction, it looked like it faded out and the median life span of Americans ticked up over time as Pharma made massive fortunes medicating the hell out of the boomers as they headed for the plot. Heres a new twist on the old war cry of W.H.O. Maybe there on to something here? "In early December, a German doctor and epidemiologist named Wolfgang Wodarg, who has been skeptical about the need for vaccines in other pandemics, teamed up with a former Pfizer employee to ask the European Medicines Agency (the European Union counterpart to the FDA) to delay the study and approval of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine. One of their concerns was a protein called syncytin-1, which shares similar genetic instructions with part of the spike of the new coronavirus. That same protein is an important component of the placenta in mammals. If the vaccine causes the body to make antibodies against syncytin-1, they argued, it might also cause the body to attack and reject the protein in the human placenta, making women infertile."2 points

Not exactly. It was planned as a civilian/commerce project. Congress slapped "Defense" onto the funding act in the 1950s, presumably because a) everyone supported spending on "Defense" and b) the ancillary benefit to moving .MIL equipment and evacuating cities. https://www.fhwa.dot.gov/interstate/interstatemyths.cfm#question32 points

It aint unusual to " monitor defects " in structures and even piping systems ( .. we did it on steam lines in fossil plants.. ), which, in the case of cracks, is " let's monitor it and see if it is growin "... This one did pretty fast. Some defects are worse than others. This is in a main structural member, meaning if you cut it, the structure will fall. This one is really bad. Thats why they are doin what they are doin. Bridge failures are often catastrophic and involve loss of life... This aint a " no.. nevermind " thing. leroy...2 points
-
I don’t wanna take my truck over it until I’m sure that they’ve figured out what the issue is.2 points
-
I guess my question is, if this crack has been there since 2019 and nothing has happened, is it really as dangerous as they claim? I get that it's bad, but I'm wondering if a temporary fix might be ok. I understand they have to be overly cautious at this point. We probably drive over other damaged bridges every day considering out horrible our infrastructure is right now.2 points

Unless you want no shows, low balling scum, and opening yourself up to offers of trade including farm animals I would say you're already in the best place to wheel and deal. And it looks like Red is gonna take care of you there. Awesome gesture !!!2 points

For those interested: TDOT has a Hernando Desoto Bridge update page... https://www.tn.gov/tdot/projects/region-4/i-40-hernando-desoto-bridge.html I lifted these details RE: " The crack " from it a few minutes ago. "... The arch truss spans are above the roadway and connected with steel box beams. A steel box beam is comprised of two side plates, measuring 32” x 1-3/8” (inboard and outboard), and tow cover plates, measuring 25” x 1/2” (top and bottom). A mechanical fracture, or crack, was discovered within the elements of a steel box beam on May 11, 2021. The fracture impacts 100% of the outboard plate, 100% of the top plate, and approximately 20% of the bottom plate. The bridge is undergoing intense analysis, including bridge modeling, to determine the extent of the damage. As of May 14, 2021, there is no indication that the bridge is continuing to deteriorate. Additional modeling and analytical tools will be used to ensure quality control before making a final determination on structural stability. Design teams are working on short- and long-term solutions that would allow traffic to safely resume on the bridge ..." It looks like they have hired the old Peter Kewit Construction company to do the repairs. They are talkin about reinforcing this area. Code words for cover plating. Notice how big the box beam is... 32"x25"... leroy.2 points

Looks like a modified Snider-Enfield rifle. At some point it lost its original rear sight and a few other bits. I suspect that its either Egyptian or Pakistani from the markings. Edit: There's one on Gunbroker that looks very similar, according to that listing its a shotgun conversion of an old Snider-Enfield and used by the Egyptian police. In any case, its a cool old gun ... https://www.gunbroker.com/item/8964810152 points

Fraud? Falsifying documents? Do these state inspectors hold and licenses granted by the state? Oftentimes there can be legal consequences for certain things. I am imagining someone too lazy to get tour of the truck and slapped a new date on last years report (or similar).1 point
-
The " charges " thing is a non starter... Im guessin ( ... The operative word is " guessin " ..) that the reason for the firing was forging inspection reports. He wuz supposed to visually inspect, then write a report. He obviously didnt... leroy...1 point

My load is 5 grains of Bullseye and 230 grain ball. 7000/5=1400. Pretty cool if you’re accustomed to loading high power rifle rounds. You won’t need to trim or chamfer brass, but you will need to slightly bell the case mouth. With a carbide sizing die, you also won’t need to lube cases. You’ll want to crimp slightly. More accurately, remove the bell.1 point

Glad to hear it Don, hopefully you can get to the bottom of what is causing this. Most everyone here has been super helpful in my journey and one of the suggestions was to pay $30 to the AFT and apply for an 03 C&R license and they'll weed out what the holdup is. It looks like mine was a battery arrest from a charge falsely made by an ex-wife that they dropped but the court failed to file the dismissal. I just received mail and info from the CA DOJ that looks like should clear mine up, my new paperwork shows that the disposition was that the prosecution denied further action on it. I'll send this to the nice lady from the ATF, and also a copy to TBI and hopefully that will be the end of this nonsense.1 point

Know those plants quite well (at least the CCR side of them). Not much steam pipe inspection at JSF anymore, unless it’s the CC plant.1 point

My fishing buddy and I had a great day today. Great conversation and great company. The peanut butter N crackers washed down with ice cold Coke was delicious. The weather was perfect. The Hiwassee River was clear and cold. The crowd did not show up and I only saw 6 folks out fishing. A light breeze kept us cool when the sun got high. I did not loose one Rooster Tail all day. My waders didn’t leak and I didn’t fall in . We got a late start and didn’t get on the river until 9:30. The fish quit biting at 9 so we didn’t catch a thing......BUT......My fishing buddy and I had a great day today. Lesson learned: It ain’t always about the fish!!1 point

The problem I see with permitless carry or with permits that are issued without any classes is that people probably aren't aware of the laws of what they can or can't do. The classes at least touch on some of the laws on the use of deadly force. I doubt most of those who carry that haven't had to take a class are aware or even look at what is legal to do or not do. They then find out the hard way when they pull a gun and then say "I thought that wqs legal to do" and find out otherwise.1 point

Carry whatever you're comfortable with but get some training and practice, practice, practice. I carry a Sig P220 in 45 unless my attire limits me, then I carry S&W model 36. I've had both of these for over 30 years. I've had training and I consistently practice with both. I've got Pythons, High Powers, hi cap Sigs, Walther and of course, several Glocks, but I always go back to those two. Its a confidence game kinda like golf and your favorite clubs. The smallest thing you can carry is better than the biggest thing you had to leave at home!1 point

Just an update: 30 days had passed since my application was initially denied. The FFL had heard nothing from TBI, so I reapplied today and it was approved.1 point

Iv got 2 sniders. A very nice complete Indian one in 50 something cal that I hope to rebarrel to 50-70 some day. The other is a Belgian 12g African trade gun. That one has a brass receiver. The barrel had a pretty good bend in it and was rough so I cut it down to 18" and it hangs over the fireplace. Interesting old guns for sure. Good luck getting yours more complete.1 point

Personally, I cut over at exit 4 in Paducah to Wycliff Mounds then hop over to I-55 North to St Louis. That way I'm in that communistic state as little as possible. The roads are better too.1 point

I’m partial to my Ithica model 37. Mid-60’s vintage. It doesn’t as easily have the option to change the choke, but it is quite easy to swap barrels.1 point
