  1. My fishing buddy and I had a great day today. Great conversation and great company. The peanut butter N crackers washed down with ice cold Coke was delicious. The weather was perfect. The Hiwassee River was clear and cold. The crowd did not show up and I only saw 6 folks out fishing. A light breeze kept us cool when the sun got high. I did not loose one Rooster Tail all day. My waders didn’t leak and I didn’t fall in . We got a late start and didn’t get on the river until 9:30. The fish quit biting at 9 so we didn’t catch a thing......BUT......My fishing buddy and I had a great day today. Lesson learned: It ain’t always about the fish!!

  2. OK, I admit I am a training junky......primarily handgun stuff. I also admit I am a fan of Randys. I have never taken a shotgun course, considering I have shot 10's of thousands of shotgun shells I have never taken a formal combative shotgun class. I re-learned you don't know what you don't know. I learned that the shotgun as a defensive weapon is devestatingly final in most instances. It also has its limitations in range and application. Combination of types/ brands of 00 buck and shotgun have different performance results. Change one and you may have significant change in results. You should know that before you load up before just assuming what your results will be. Randy's course is an eye opener in that regard. Also it double checks your equipment. Sights, speed, accurracy , reliability are all important factors that pop up in a formal training setting. Face it, most of us won't do that on our own and under the direction of a competent instructor can be eye opening. Whether handgun, rifle , or shotgun, Randy is a great local resource that can help test you and your equipment revealing the and disadvantages before the fecal material hits the revolving blades.

  3. Gun Owners Club will work, but I will tell you that a benefactor membership here is well worth the meager cost. It helps pay the bills to keep this great forum running.

  4. Wow, so now they are going to re-inspect the I-55 bridge. If they find something, we will have a genuine catastrophe. I shot a match in AR this weekend and Friday afternoon, eastbound traffic into Memphis was a total disaster. I had planned to come back via Helena, AR after seeing the melee, but was pleasantly surprised that Saturday night traffic was light and we sailed right through I-55 like nothing was even wrong. The phone traffic app didn’t lie.

  6. I just scored 200, Hornady 300 gr. JHP bullets from Midsouth, at the regular price. Altho, I don't but factory ammo, I have noticed the reloading components I buy from MidSouth, Midway, Powder Valley, etc., have held the line on their prices ( when they have any .) Of course there are others that haven't done so. P & P. Patience & Persistence.

  7. Howdy from TX. We moved from Tennessee in 2018 and went to Texas to be closer to family. It’s been along time since I’ve been on TGO, so I thought I would re-introduce myself again. I always have the highest regards for TGO, as it was well moderated and admins were great. Looking forward to start contributing again. Thanks Epp Thescoutranch

  8. The problem I see with permitless carry or with permits that are issued without any classes is that people probably aren't aware of the laws of what they can or can't do. The classes at least touch on some of the laws on the use of deadly force. I doubt most of those who carry that haven't had to take a class are aware or even look at what is legal to do or not do. They then find out the hard way when they pull a gun and then say "I thought that wqs legal to do" and find out otherwise.

  9. Why? It is already legal to carry a gun in a car without a permit.

  10. I use a small hook sometimes a size 6 or a tad bigger with a minnow or shiner and let it dangle from a float/bobber. just let the gar eat it and swim away with it and then after a minute or so he will chew and swallow it then you can hook him good. If you try to set the hook right when he hits it , the hook will fall out because of the hard mouth they have with those teeth. You got to let him swallow it enough to where the hook gets into his throat where the tissue is softer where the hook will set. I also use a peice of nylon rope where I cut it around 7 inches. I then burn the end with a lighter and tie the line to the burnt end. I then take the rest of it and unwind the nylon and then use a hairbrush to spread out the fibers. When you see a gar on the surface like they do when they come up , you throw the rope in their area and then slowly reel it in towards you, they will bite it. Just let them bite it and apply a "tad" bit of resistance , they will shake their head and the shaking will tangle the rope into their teeth more and more , then reel him in . I'll attach a picture of the rope lure I made. It looks wierd but it works !

  14. Because of numbers. More people will carry more frequently. I would also bet the majority are unaware of permitless carry in autos.

  16. Of all things a Crappie Magnet. Started with a trout magnet on 2 lb line and had one on for about 5 minutes on my first cast. Probably lost 2 dozen. I've never seen anything like it, they were everywhere. I don't know that I've ever caught one on rod and reel before. Seems like they are very difficult to get a good hook on.

  20. By the way, Nemo, I dig the Jason Dea West tune. Reminds me of John Denver in a good way and Brandi Carlisle, too. I tend to lean a little farther toward the highlonesome sound, so I'll see your "Mountain Air" and raise you some "bitter brew." I suggest headphones, volume up, and KY bourbon or TN shine in hand. (Bear with the ambient noise - worth it.)

  24. For those convinced "they" are inflating covid tests I want to share this. My wife has been sick for 6 days will all the normal covid symptoms. She got test results back today for her 3rd covid test. All 3 were negative. Even the doctor thought she had it. It turns out she has Bronchitis. It seems they missed a great opportunity to falsify covid tests.

  25. TGO has unfortunately, from time to time, been visited by those who lack morals and ethics and would like to take advantage of the good graces and trusting nature of our fine members. This activity almost always seems to increase when social conditions are turbulent, especially if the turbulence is centered around the ability to find and buy guns or ammo. Lately we have had to boot a few people who were exhibiting suspicious behavior. We want you to be aware of this fact and to be sure to check a person's status on TGO before you commit to doing business with them as either the seller or the buyer. This is especially true if the other person encourages you to take communication with them "off the forum" and to email or some sort of instant messaging service. Before you buy or sell: Look to see whether they have have an active account or if they've been banned since you started talking to them. If you are going to meet to conduct business, do it during daylight hours and in a heavily trafficked, very public, neutral meeting place. Don't invite people to your home. Don't agree to meet people at theirs. MOST police and sheriff's stations have space at their parking lot where you can meet for selling and buying with strangers. Other good places are parking lots of busy business and in sight of their security cameras. Trust your gut instincts whether just when communicating online or meeting in person. If something feels "off" or "weird" - trust your gut. Feel free to involve me, @MacGyver, @Chucktshoes or one of the other moderators in a private conversation with the other party, or just contact us off to the side if you have concerns. Some of the suspicious activity that we've seen includes: People answering a Want To Buy ad claiming to have what you want, or that they know a friend or family member who does, and offering to broker an exchange between you and them. When it is fraudulent, this sort of thing often quickly becomes ridiculously complex and harder than it should be to do a simple transaction. Your warning senses should start tingling. We insist that people never list an item for sale for a friend on TGO for a reason. First Person is simpler, easier and often safer. People asking if you will ship a gun to them out of state or if you require proof of residency. Shipping a gun out of state always requires that you send it to an FFL in that state. An in-person buyer has to be a resident of your state. Again, heed your warning senses. People asking you to send money to them via PayPal "Friends and Family". Remember, first of all PayPal doesn't allow you to pay for guns and certain other things with their service. If you do and you get hosed on a deal, you may have no protection with PayPal. Second, sending money via Friends and Family saves the recipient a measly 3% charge but it also means you get zero protection via PayPal if the other person hoses you. Strangers insisting that they meet you after dark, or at a remote location, or at your house or theirs. This is a big NO. Don't do this. People asking if they can send a friend to pick up a gun from you instead of meeting you themselves. This is also a big NO. It can quickly become an illegal "straw purchase". Again, trust your gut instincts. You have them for a reason. It's safer to heed them and risk offending a person than it is to ignore them and end up the victim of a scam or worse. And always, always contact me, @MacGyver, @Chucktshoes or another moderator if you are concerned and just want a second opinion. We're glad to help. Stay safe out there!

  28. As others have said, important to remember that the reasonableness of your actions will be judged by people who aren't scared, who didn't just wake up to the sound of a stranger in the home, and who don't have loved ones in the next room. @ Raoul - My wife and I were living in a low-end apartment 15 years ago and were both off work and asleep in the bedroom about 2 pm. She shook me awake and whispered "There's someone in the house." Maybe seven seconds later I had grabbed my 1911 from a drawer and heard heavy footsteps in the hall. Someone rattled the locked bedroom doorknob from outside the room. I sounded off with "Get out or I'll shoot," racked the slide, and aimed at the door. Immediately I heard footsteps running away. Stupidly I opened the bedroom door and followed the sound. I made it out the front door in time to see a guy start his engine and drive away faster than I would have thought a pest control van can go. Afterward I had a huge adrenaline dump, figured out what had happened, felt angry, felt frustrated... and was very relieved I hadn't fired through that bedroom door. About two days later the apt. leasing office admitted to me that they routinely gave keys to a local pest control company to send contractors inside units (with no prior notice to residents) and spray for bugs during the day "while residents are at work." Suffice to say, we moved. There's a lot about it that I could have done better. But no one got hurt.
