  1. She did double bag it at the end, so it's all good.

  2. Easy, get rid of all of the "crap" and focus on what's needed. You know, kind of like a normal person has to do with their own budget. Novel idea I know.

  3. I don’t see what the issue is. The cotter pin isn’t a load bearing item. The giant bolt it’s attached to is the one bearing it. The cotter pins on either side are simply there to keep the big pin from rattling out when I drive across the New Bridge weighing 80k lbs at speeds exceeding the posted limit.

  6. All of the recent scammer activity on TGO and other big gun forums uses the same tactic: A new "member" registers for an account and immediately sends a private message to legitimate members of the community with an alleged off-site, out of state contact, who either has the item they want to buy or is wanting to buy the item they have to sale. To date 100% of this activity has been fraudulent. In order to make it harder for these scum to operate in the shadows, I am considering the following changes to TGO: Placing all new members into a category that forbids them from being able to send a private message until X-Number of days have passed since registering, or X-Number of posts have been made in other areas, or some combination of the two. If a person wants to bypass that restriction, they can buy a Benefactor subscription, at which point we have a way to track them down if they do something illegal. Otherwise they participate by providing meaningful content for a brief period of time, after which they can send private messages. What do you all say about this plan?

  7. To put it simply, no. TN law allows great leeway in what is considered “gouging”. In other words it is vague and does not protect the consumer. Big surprise. Even though the pipeline is cranking back up gas stations are already trucking in gas from far away places. That is going to cause a noticeable spike in prices over the next little while. That being said, damn skippy some smaller outfits are going to take advantage of the situation. That’s capitalism, right?

  8. I think that holds a suspension cable. Here is the recording of the 911 call that was made by the inspection crew to the Memphis side. https://twitter.com/Ripple1026/status/1392576653449170955?s=20

  12. Local news can't seem to get it straight. There's a crack which is bad enough to close the bridge, but local TV seems to think it'll be repaired in just a day or two. Really? I kinda have my doubts about that. The news also reported that 100,000 vehicles cross that bridge every day. The I-55 bridge, which normally sees half that, will now have to take the full load. Downtown Memphis is a mess. Traffic is barely moving. For those who don't know, Memphis and all the Mississippi river bridges have been on our enemy's primary target lists since the early cold war days. Drop those bridges and you effectively cut this country in half.

  13. I'm sure that many of us agree with you on INFRASTRUCTURE. Unfortunately, we can't trust our representatives to restrict the spending to what would rightfully be called infrastructure. Those ####'s in congress want to include every pet-project and political wish in those bills. There are things that both sides of the aisle can agree on, fixing unsafe bridges, and now hardening pipeline controls, for example. It would be nice if congress would agree on those things and save the LBGT "infrastructure" for another debate.

  16. No, but at the same time she would’ve been fine if the call had been a car accident or someone getting shot or robbed or whatever. I’ll be a little bit forgiving because I don’t think any dispatcher is prepared for a call that says “the new bridge is broke and you need to stop traffic before it falls into the river.“

  18. Cable mount. The pin holding the cable is pretty substantial. As Chuck pointed out above, there's no load on the cotter pin, it just keeps the pin from moving. With the tension on the cable, the sideloading on the pin will be virtually nil ...

  19. Well, at least everyone will not be beaching about the price of primers/powder/boolits for a week or two. 87 octane was $2,86/gal at wally world today for me. I was a bit surprised for a second that they had gas, but then I remembered it was walmart/murphy and they can get stuff when no one else can.

  27. When I was a kid, one of my dad's friends had an old M1 with a selector switch - which I guess would have technically made it an M2. Even as a kid, I though that was the goofiest little selector switch. But man that thing made you giggle when you shot it. They did an estate sale when he died several years later. To this day it's the only estate sale I've ever been to where the ATF was there too.

  31. I've been saying for years that this country's infrastructure was in major need of an overhaul. I'm actually kinda happy Biden is interested in this. But, like every other democratic proposal, they want to pass a bill to spend trillions of dollars and maybe 10% of it will actually go for the intended purpose. All the rest will be used to fund the totally unrelated liberal wish list.

  32. I've got a bunch of Mora knives, and they're great high carbon knives that are pretty easy to sharpen. When it comes to other carving knives for specialized stuff like spoons, bowls, etc - I've had good success with some of the BeaverCraft products. Their kits are a pretty inexpensive way to dip your toe in the water - and will last into the future if you find you enjoy the hobby. Don't forget a good strop.

  33. Individuals don't tend to think things through when they are busy or emotionally invested. Security experts continually drive home the message that you should never click on a link or open a file that is either in an unexpected email or text, yet time and time again people do it and subject either their selves or their company to ransomware.

  34. I've been trying to figure out a way to have the forum software drop a disclaimer / warning at the top of messages sent by people who are using brand new accounts also. Just as a reminder to folks to verify things before blindly trusting. I know that TGO is well-stocked with smart folks who have a lot of common sense, but I keep reminding myself that there are still people in this world who fall for telemarketing scams too. Not because they are dumb, but rather just because of genuine trust for people or innocent naivety. I'd like to protect those folks if they happen to join, especially if they join in the current climate just to find ammo or a firearm. Sadly, so far I've had no luck pulling-off this particular hack of our software. I may have to farm it out to someone who develops add-ons to the forum software we use.

  35. Thanks for the comments guys. I think I will sit on most of this stuff for a while. I've got plenty of ammo on hand and having components will give more flexibility to future needs as I may choose to change bullet weights, powder charges or something for a particular caliber. Never really know what tomorrow may bring?

  41. Grayfox I don't know how old you are, but I am in similar circumstances. I have several loaded rounds, but I got to thinking that at some point my mind or body may not be up to loading good safe rounds. So I think I am going to fill up every piece of brass I have while I am able. I should run out of primers by the time I get most of the brass filled. The kids and grandkids all shoot, so it won't go to waste. But I am onery enough to stay around and shoot all of it.

  42. I read this "fact-check" and had to laugh. Yes, Fauci's organization gave a grant to EcoHealth Alliance. Yes, Ecohealth funded research into bat viruses collected at the source of SARS-CoV2 800 miles away and brought them to the Wuhan Lab. Yes, published papers by this lab showed gain of function research. But since there is no HARD evidence, the claim is considered false! This isn't just a smoking gun; it's a glowing red hot barrel of a Squad Automatic Weapon. I'm reminded of Sgt Shultz in Hogan's Heros saying, "I know NOTHING!!"

  44. I adopted my GSD on February 7, 2020. I wasn’t prepared either. I wasn’t prepared for the unbelievable level of love that he has for us. And I wasn’t prepared for the absolute, complete, total, deep rooted love I have for him. Even my wife, who has been cold and indifferent toward animals, is head over heels for him. We weren’t prepared for that either. In other words he is absolutely one of the very best things that has ever happened to us. He is no less than a full fledged family member, and he is loved and protected as such. For the life of me I cannot understand how people can consider a pet as a disposable fad to be abandoned or disposed of after they have been used. Pets do not deserve that kind of treatment and in my opinion it takes a special kind of trash to do that. But these days this stupid society is packed full of very special kinds of trash.

  45. They won’t be back online until the weekend at the earliest. So, it’s worth getting gas sooner rather than later. There are a lot of resources being marshaled because of the critically - but this stuff takes time. We’re dealing with sophisticated attackers these days. We’ve seen them recon networks from the inside for months. We’ve seen backups infected and deleted. With SCADA access, it’s possible to cause actual physical damage. This is the real deal - and likely the tip of a larger iceberg. It’s the kind of stuff that leads to kinetic responses.
