The first centerfire rifle I ever shot was my Dad's IBM M1 Carbine when I was around 12 years old. Still have it and will until the day I die.7 points

All of the recent scammer activity on TGO and other big gun forums uses the same tactic: A new "member" registers for an account and immediately sends a private message to legitimate members of the community with an alleged off-site, out of state contact, who either has the item they want to buy or is wanting to buy the item they have to sale. To date 100% of this activity has been fraudulent. In order to make it harder for these scum to operate in the shadows, I am considering the following changes to TGO: Placing all new members into a category that forbids them from being able to send a private message until X-Number of days have passed since registering, or X-Number of posts have been made in other areas, or some combination of the two. If a person wants to bypass that restriction, they can buy a Benefactor subscription, at which point we have a way to track them down if they do something illegal. Otherwise they participate by providing meaningful content for a brief period of time, after which they can send private messages. What do you all say about this plan?4 points

I can't help on all of your questions, but here's this: 1. It is legal for a felon to hunt with bows and with antique (black powder) arms and to take hunter safety courses in Tennessee. You can take the course online: https://www.tn.gov/twra/hunting/hunter-education/online-hunting-education.html 2. I don't know anything specific about western Tennessee but I know that the firing range at Long Hunter State Park does not require a background check to shoot on the range. I assume it follows the same rules as all other state ranges. But I'd be careful not to handle anyone's modern firearm while on the range. 3. No help here; I'm in Middle Tennessee. Stay clean and straight, and good luck to you. I applaud you for wanting to stay within the law. Cheers, Whisper4 points

SLAP stands for 'Saboted Light Armor Piercing'. The important part is the 'saboted'. The 'sabot' is is the light plastic piece that holds a smaller diameter bullet. In the video, Scott says that the rounds immediately prior to the explosion were off-target. This tells me that it is possible that pieces of the previous sabots were getting caught in the muzzle brake, and causing a partial obstruction. It may be that the obstruction built up to the point where the final round slowed at the muzzle long enough for the pressure to exceed the strength of the breech. As this ammunition has a muzzle velocity over 3900 FPS, it would not take long for the pressure to build. Back when Remington sold sabot loaded hunting ammunition, they had warnings on the box to not use it in a rifle that had any kind of muzzle brake or flash-hider. After a few incidents of rifle being damaged by split barrels from folks who didn't pay attention to the warning, Remington dropped that line of ammo.4 points

If you thought the 38 was crazy you completely overlooked the Standard CCI 22lr they were selling for $0.40 a round . Gun owners at large on the left and right are their own worst enemy. It appears no one bought the last 10 years things have been dirt cheap and now it’s conspiracy theory after conspiracy theory in gun forums like this one driving typically sane people to justify spending exorbitant prices for ammo instead of just sitting and waiting for prices to come back down as they always have. Practice your dry fire, take up a different hobby, go dust off the red Ryder or that old paintball gun you used to love but for the love of money please stop buying right now..until us as a gun community stops paying these crack head prices we won’t see any relief.4 points

"Is it foolish of me to sit on and basically hoard these components or should a just go ahead and load 'em up and have shootable ammo ready to go?" Not in my opinion. Unless you're sure what you will need in the future there's a lot more flexibility by having components. You have adequate supplies of loaded ammo, components and equipment to reload what you need to replace. Sounds like a good plan to me.3 points

I call that non-sense, in that they have NO sense. I may shoot less, shoot .22 and pellet guns, but I refuse to pay stupid prices. I thought the last go round in '08 I had seen some crazy stuff, but this out does it. I have seen 30-30 for over $4 per round, SPP at $325 plus shipping, plus lots of common ammo go for crazy prices. I really feel sorry for the new gun owners that for whatever reason age etc, they didn't get to enjoy the cheap prices of yesteryear. I know things will never be as cheap, but hopefully one day this storm will pass and some normality will return.3 points

Gary, I also had one of the Crossman M1 carbine BB guns and still do have a Marlin 99M1 rifle. These were my first guns growing up. Quite possibly that's why I'm such a fan of the M1 Carbine.2 points

When I was little my dad bought me a Crosman BB gun that looked like a M1 and later a Marlin 22 that also looked like a M1. When I was around 50 years old he said he would like to get me a real m1 then asked how much the were. I said they were 6 or 7 hundred. He said that was too much. I said I agree.2 points

If he has a hunters safety certificate from a different state, he's good in Tennessee. No need to take Tennessee's course.2 points

If you want the bestest and mostest in M14 accuracy, my opinion is you will be much better off spending your money on a quality barrel first. Then time your gas system with shims to get the most bolt dwell. For the money, Wolfe barrels have Kreiger performance for 100 bucks less. Their 5R/20 barrels have become very popular. Regardless whether you do Wolfe, Kreiger or a Medium weight Criterion, they all shoot circles around most Springfields. At least, if you are looking for 1 MOA or less. The Sage EBR works by greatly reducing barrel whip with a bolted op rod guide and tightly gripping the receiver like a bedded action. I like them a lot but, for me, I prefer a more traditional E2 laminate with good draw pressure on the ferrul. Each to his or her own. For the kind of money you're about to spend, you'll want it capable to blast apples at 500 yards.2 points

Nice looking Sig! Interesting about your G20 recoil. I have a gen4 and don’t find it bad at all.2 points

That is entirely dependent on condition, manufacturer, and originality. If you find a USGI mixmaster for less than $1k you’ve done very well. I bet these will start around $1,400 if not more for the lowest grades.2 points

Like new in hard case, additional soft case with all original packaging, tools and 6 chokes: Cylinder, Skeet, Improved Cylinder, Improved Cylinder, Light Modified and Modified. Bought new in 2017. Very low number of shells fired. Just did not use that much. Not a mark on the shotgun! Located in Spring Hill near the GM Plant. 30" Barrels $6,800.00....NOW $6,550.00.....NOW $6,200!!!1 point

I’m wanting to do a blog type website. I’ve tried just about every free or low cost hosting place on the web I think, but they are so complicated for my 68 YO brain. They all are geared for something fancy, or somebody trying to sell something. I’m just looking for a place to upload some documents on a irregular basis. No pictures, no fancy anything and most of all E A S Y to do. I know we have some ‘putter Xperts in the family, so does anyone know of a place I might could try? E A S Y is the main objective Thanks for any input!1 point

They won’t be back online until the weekend at the earliest. So, it’s worth getting gas sooner rather than later. There are a lot of resources being marshaled because of the critically - but this stuff takes time. We’re dealing with sophisticated attackers these days. We’ve seen them recon networks from the inside for months. We’ve seen backups infected and deleted. With SCADA access, it’s possible to cause actual physical damage. This is the real deal - and likely the tip of a larger iceberg. It’s the kind of stuff that leads to kinetic responses.1 point

It's terrible the way people consider pets to be disposable. We wouldn't let ours go for anything. Though I had forgotten how hard puppy training is. Ours are part of the family and are treated as such.1 point

"We" may stop these experiments, but people that fund these experiments will never be put to task for it, there is evidence that Fauchi funded some of these but the MSM has deemed this as false because there is no evidence that the virus is man-made. Seems that is a stretch to assume that because it has not been proven it didn't happen. Fact-check: Did Dr. Fauci fund research that created COVID-19?1 point

I shall turn to my barn where buckets of wheel weights are awaiting going into the smelting pot and then to be turned into ingots whereby all the lead projectiles are cast, along with 00 buckshot. I have been at this game awhile, used to have a church friend that was manager over a big tire store and I didn't even have to load them up in my truck, we bought all our tires there anyway, but it sure is nice. Speaking of that I need to get the fire lit and do some smelting if I can catch a non rainy or windy day!!1 point

Maybe, I have no idea what caused the final failure though. Of course it was a '66 Ranchero with its original 289. This was circa 1982, I was using it as a daily driver at the time. Nice old car, somebody before me had done a decent restoration/renewal of the paint and interior, but the engine was old and tired. As I recall, it was showing 20 something thousand on the odometer when it wheezed and died of old age. Admittedly, I have no idea of the actual mileage, but I'm satisfied it had turned over at least once. I doubt that the type, brand or condition of the oil and filter had much to do with it's death ... I'm not including the various drag car motors I grenaded while full of oil ...1 point

Most folks don’t value your time the same as they value their own. If it happened here, by all means, leave a negative feedback. I find the feedback system here very useful for evaluating whether I want to deal with a particular person or not. It takes a while to amass a good reputation and only a moment to destroy one. Just be factual and accurate. Do not let emotion help write the feedback.1 point
-
I'd ask them what happened and if the answer was BS I'd post feedback as such. In this day and age with virtually instant comms via text, ghosting somebody is incredibly rude.1 point

We are simply seeing things we simply have never seenin our lifetime. " Tombstone " is becoming the norm where it had been tamped down for over 120 years. If the adults don't take the local and state gubts back over, even in places like Knoxburg, everybody may be carryin ARs, AKs, n Shotguns along with their pistolas wherever they go... The adult political class of both flavors is gonna have ta quit coddling this trash n come down on em to restore the peace. This spate of treating these gangs of hoodlums like " patriots " and slappin their wrists for criminal acts and intimidating folks they dont approve of needs to be over before Charles Manson's war begins... leroy...1 point

Synthetics are good if you're in the habit of going way over the regular oil change intervals. I'm talking double or triple the recommended miles. Synthetics do hold up longer. in fact, longer oil change intervals is one of the synthetics biggest selling points. However, if you keep even close to the recommended mileage, plain old cheap petroleum oils work fine. The truth is that its not the oil that breaks down. Its the detergents and additives that don't last and require changing regularly. I worked in fleets my whole career. We specified the oil weights, 5W30 for gas burners and 15W40 for diesels, but that was all. Otherwise we bought the cheapest bulk oil the distributor had at the time. Used the same oil in everything from lawn mowers to fire and garbage trucks to large earth movers. We also went 4000 miles between changes rather than the recommended 3000 most makers suggest. Never had a single oil related problem. And that was with some drivers who often didn't pay attention and sometimes let services slip for 8000 to 12000 miles. BTW: your local quick change place uses the same cheap bulk oil we did. They may have a specific brand that's on the sign outside. But its all pretty much the same. Absolutely nothing wrong with it. Its good oil. Its just the cheapest stuff the distributor sells. They push the synthetic stuff for two reasons. One: its more expensive and makes them more money. Two: they realize that much of their clientele aren't real good at making regular scheduled oil changes. Some go years between oil changes. Another point you need to understand is that the quick change places don't make much profit on oil changes. That's just the hook to get you in the door. The real money is in all the extra services they can talk you in to buying. These guys aren't mechanics, they're salesmen.1 point
