  2. No change. Buy when cheap and stack it deep. That gets you through the lean times.

  3. Good morning all. I receive emails from PSA and yesterday they had 300 rounds of .38 132 gr FMJ for $239.99 that is $0.80 each. They also had .40 S&W 165 gr. PMC brand 300 rounds for $179.99 or $0.60 each. It doesn't make sense to me that .38 would be that expensive. I would have posted this, but when I saw the ad it was sold out. For you folks that don't reload, this is a fine reason to start. Any day of the week you can load 38's for $0.12 or less, I cast my own lead bullets and can do it for under $0.06. I really feel sorry for folks that pay $0.80 for a fmj .38.

  4. I’m good. I have a safe full of loaded mags .223, .300BO, .308, .22, 9mm, .357 and ammo cans stacked deep elsewhere. I only have a reasonable amount of .45, because I no longer carry the caliber. It’s for my purdy 1911’s that rarely see the light of day. I plan to start burning off a lot of .22 now until things settle down.

  7. I was moving what small amout of ammo I had to a small island and the boat flipped over, all lost. Any one know where I can buy some cheap ammo, say $0.10 to $0.15 a round?

  8. I’m with the original poster. I’ve got 50 cal. ammo cans full of .38 special, 9mm, .40 cal, and .45 acp. I reload.

  10. They use cardboard end caps on the filter media instead of metal, use substandard materials for the seal and anti-drain back valve which hardens, have too few and too small holes for good oil flow, and have cheap tin and plastic spring plates instead of a steel coiled spring. The filter media itself is also more porous allowing particles to stay in the oil and keep cycling through your engine, and there's less of it. All of this mattered less on older cars with lower pressures and more forgiveness (ranging from higher tolerances to actual materials like iron vs aluminum). The Fram Ultra is better, but it's not as good as the better ones. I'd use one if I had to, but would leave an old good quality filter on before I'd ever use a basic Fram. He cuts into a Fram at the 10:00 mark. Look at the cheap construction. Jump to 19:45 to see the amount of filter media in the Fram vs Wix.

  11. After enduring several shortages of ammunition, I began a practice of purchasing additional ammo each time I went to the range. At current prices and availability that no longer is possible.

  12. The .38 Special is likely the most common handgun cartridge in this country. Low supply + huge demand = high prices. Even those folks who only have the one old revolver stashed away in the sock drawer are realizing that ammo is scarce. They're out there looking too.

  15. From what I read, Knox City has 2 different types of officers in schools. They have School Security Officers(SSO's) and School Resource Officers(SRO's). It seems they are removing the SRO's but each school will still have one armed officer. Either way, it seems like a knee jerk reaction and a pointless change that won't accomplish anything. I'm still so disappointed in the community. The family calling for accountability needs to look inward. https://www.wate.com/news/that-is-not-our-intent-school-board-members-say-when-it-comes-to-knoxville-police-leaving-knox-county-schools/

  17. Actually yes, my wife had this old green Dodge Dart (the old style) with the slant 6 in it. Full of oil, oil pump quit and could tell because the lifters on the slant 6 always sounded the same. Drove it from Athens to Chattanooga and on the way back the oil light came on. Stopped, checked the oil. Figured it was the sensor since the oil was full. Got back to Athens, pulled into her moms house, shut it off, went to start it an hour later to go home and it was locked up tight. Luckily that style wasn’t hard to change the motor.

  18. A few months ago, on here, I picked up a basic, sporterized Turkish Mauser in one of my all time favorite-but-never-owned calibers; .257 Roberts. Well.... I did a little work, spent a little cash & frankly, I can't not love the improvement!

  19. Ditto. I work with several engineers who went to TTU. Another guy I have worked with for over 20 years, both his sons graduated from TTU.

  22. I picked up a stock on ebay that needed a BUNCH of inletting, but I get bored & it was cheap. I stripped the bolt & fired up my forge, beating the original bolt handle into a nice, elegant spoon handle. Terry Walden spent far too long drilling & tapping the scope mounts, but he mostly got it right.....& I mounted an old Weaver K6W, television view fixed 6 power scope. I need to get to the range & sight her in, but man.... she points like a fiiiine shotgun!

  27. I really regret not buying more 9mm. Got caught with my pants down on that one. I’ve got less than 5k on hand and would prefer double that. Same goes for .308 of which I’ve only got around 1k. At least I have my 10k+ of 223/556 and .22.

  28. I do wish I had bought more back when it was dirt cheap. Going forward, I'll do a better job about buying more consistently. I'm glad I consolidated calibers a while back. I would like to ditch .380 someday but my wife likes her little Sig.

  29. Had a spun bearing at 32k miles the dealer tried to blame on (lack of) oil changes. Much to their disappointment I pointed out that they sold me the car brand new and had done 8 oil changes in their own service department since I bought it. That average was well below their 5000 mile service recommendation. That is one reason I take it to the selling dealer if it is under warranty. Saved me an expensive engine replacement. After the warranty period is up I tend to take care of them myself.

  30. 500 rounds per caliber of good defensive ammo. One thousand rounds of " hardball " for each carry caliber... About 5 reliable mags for each semiauto... About 250-300 rounds of buck... All the reloading components i can afford ta buy for calibers used... Lookin at a Palmetto State AK of some flavor... scavengin leroy, the armed hermit...

  31. I haven't put a large number of rounds thru my maverick but it has been reliable for it's intended use. If someone is foolish enough to break into my home it would likely be their last mistake. I'd like to find a used 870but the maverick accomplishes its tasks well.

  36. "Louisville has seen a surge of violent crime. According to police statistics, murders, rapes and robberies were up more than 81% above the five-year averages in January and February. This followed a 2020 where police retirements and resignations were at a five-year high after Taylor's death. Approximately 15% of the police force left during that time." Starting to sound familiar in more and more cities lately.

  37. You should also look at the Springfield XD-M. I bought one when it first came out, great gun. I much prefer the feel in hand when compared to the Glocks, at least the 20 and 29SF of which I owned both. just another option.

  41. Don't want to steal the thread, but probably just if not more important is a quality oil filter. Do your own research, but after years of changing my own oil, Wix is the only filter I will use. They aren't cheap, but I want quality not cheap.

  42. Well lemme see here.... I'm sitting there having dinner and suddenly a rowdy crowd of protesters appears and is backing me up against a wall and screaming in my face. Yeah, I'd think it would be reasonable to feel threatened enough to go into self defense mode.

  43. A friend has a 2011 Silverado with almost 300,000 on it and it's always had synthetic in it. I don't think it has ever used any oil. Good stuff. I used to always use either Valvoline 10w40 or Havoline 10w40. Not in the last few years at all.

  44. I was sympathetic until it became clear people don't care about the truth on this one. Folks are trying to place blame on anyone and everyone EXCEPT the kid that brought a gun to school. On another note, during the protest Friday they tried to pull someone out of a sunroof. No clue what lead up to this.
