  1. Welcome to reality my friend. Glad to have you here.

  2. Thanks Lynn for the kind offer. I didn’t have a very good description of them so I decided to bite the bullet and make the drive again. Unfortunately the vendor had left after Saturday so going over there wouldn’t have helped. Thankfully they had realized what happened so they left their card with one of the RK people in the front. I have their contact info now and they are willing to mail it out to me. So this should eventually have a happy ending. This is not a mistake I’ll be making again soon!

  3. Well, since no one has volunteered, I was not planning to attend, but I do live close-by. If you have no other takers, you could text me all the info you can remember, & I will take my phone over & see what I can do. (865 deleted) Photo(s) might help too if possible. All I could do is find the vendor & see what he says. Anyone else actually going, speak up.

  4. I would amend my earlier post to clarify "I'll take it" can be in the thread or via PM. However, I do think the seller should update the thread with a pending status as soon as able, which would be after reading the PM as a courtesy to others.

  5. In my opinion, the fist public “I’ll take it” should be able to buy whatever it is. What is the opinion of the forum?

  7. This. It would be nice if people called dibs by posting “PM sent” or something similar to let others know to back off, but first interest always wins, even if everyone else doesn’t know about it. The seller also has a responsibility to promptly indicate in their ad that the goods are SPF or something to that effect, like immediately.

  8. It's very hard to include every possible detail of a transaction in the sales ad especially if the item being sold is used. To me, "I'll take it" is a firm commitment to the seller that you will buy, period. I prefer to post a "PM Sent" in the thread to let others know and communicate privately with the seller. We've never failed to work out those details and complete the deal. Plus I've gotten to know some great TGO members in the process.

  9. I was just about to say this. If I decide to buy from someone here I PM them and don't necessarily need the rest of community knowing what I buy. The first person that speaks up publicly or privately should get it.

  11. I have made deals in PMs and not in the "add", I some times like to keep things just between me and the seller. If I step on toes I do apologize.

  12. I agree the first "I'll take it" should have the opportunity. Buy saying that comes with an implied understanding that the money is available, and you're agreeing with whatever the seller posted about the conditions of the transfer (location, ID, ect). If someone isn't ready to move now, they shouldn't get to hold up the seller from moving to another and making the sale.

  13. I picked up my final four suppressors yesterday. Seven stamps received in less than eight months. I’m impressed by the speed considering everything going on. I wasn’t expecting any approvals until September or October. 1. Omega K .45 2. Octane 9mm 3. Octane.45 4. Surefire Socom .556 mini

  14. I love the old part of Florida. It’s grown up a lot - but it still retains some of the old Florida feel. In that part of Florida, paddling the springs is a lot of fun. You’ll be out of prime manatee season, but it’s still fun to paddle the crystal clear water. Salt Springs isn’t far far. Crystal River is a lot of fun if you’re ever on the other side of the state - but it’s probably 100 miles from St. Augustine. It’s worth it though. My kids would get in the car right now if I told them We could go paddle the springs.

  17. On this quiet Sunday afternoon BLM and other protesters of their ilk descended on a west Knox County subdivision looking for the district attorney’s house. Word is they went to the wrong house at first. Don’t know if they ever found it or if they were even in the right place. If anyone in west Knoxville was wondering why helicopters were flying around all afternoon, now you know why.

  18. I always remove at least the price if I don't also remove the entire add. For me, the problem is A) I prefer not to have everyone know what I bought (and have) as well as what I paid for everything so I do the same for others and B) I think it just adds to the thought that everything is overpriced because someone can see that it sold 2 years ago for X amount. I figure most have an idea of what the going price is for what they are looking at. I would use Gunbroker and look at recent sales (which actually sold) as my barometer. To each his own. Why A is important is because as I mentioned earlier, I do buy many items by saying I'll take it in the thread. I see both sides, but prefer that anything I buy be wiped from the post (and future searches of people on the interweb).

  21. As another piece of 'Classifieds etiquette', I find it annoying when the seller wipes all information about what was being sold from the original ad. I like having older posts available so I can see what an item sold for in the past. Wiping out the first post content or the thread title isn't necessary. Adding "SOLD" to the title (not replacing it) or adding a post to the thread stating it's sold is adequate rather than destroying the history in the classified forums.

  22. On mouse guns... I have a couple of the NAA revolvers that I use as backups or around the house. Both of them were purchased with 22LR and 22 Mag cylinders. In the thousands of rounds I've fired though them, I've only had a couple of 22LR not go "bang" and not a single 22 Mag fail to fire. Admittedly, I've fired significantly more 22LR than 22 Mag because of cost. By the way, Speer Gold Dot - Short Barrel 22 Mag ammo out of a 1-inch barrel NAA Pug revolver is LOUD. Some numbers on a NAA Pug from a LabRadar with Speer Gold Dot - Short barrel 22 WMR: Stats - Average 924.67 fps Stats - Highest 939.95 fps Stats - Lowest 915.51 fps Stats - Ext. Spread 24.44 fps Stats - Std. Dev 9.48 fps The kinetic energy at the muzzle for the Pug averaged 75.4 ft-lbf. But if I'm going to carry a mouse gun as a primary for some reason (very rare), I always pick the Keltec P-32. Fully loaded it only weighs 10.7 ounces compared to the Pugs 9.7 ounces and that's with 3 additional rounds weighing about .28 ounces each. If you're going to carry a P-32, I highly suggest using Fiocchi FMJ ammo for reliability. But to get back to the point I intended to make, using quality rimfire ammo, failure to fire is very rare. I suspect that a large portion of the failure to fire with 22LR is firearm related (i.e. light strike) rather than ammo.

  25. Put a little more finger on the trigger and see if that does not help. Usually shooting to the side is not enough finger on the trigger, pushing the pistol to the side.

  26. Congrats on getting seven stamps in 8 months. The long wait is the primary reason I haven't purchased additional suppressors.

  27. I purchased a few lowers from Palmetto before I retired. I should have purchased the other necessary parts for completion as well. As said above, the SS checks are not supportive of current gun parts and ammo prices.

  32. It's always nice if the seller posts the conditions, but not necessary. If the seller asks for public notices, I'll give them, otherwise i typically go with a PM. As others have stated, I prefer purchases to remain between myself and the seller ...

  33. We are in complete agreement. I’ve posted I’ll take it on a couple of recent ads only to be told I’m too late. This means I will show up with cash at an agreed to time and place and leave with the item unless it was grossly misrepresented. A bird in the hand...
    1 point
  34. I agree, however, I believe the seller should set the terms that you speak of or the item should not be listed. I wish there was a minimum post count before you can sell an item, but not my house.

  35. My wife and I decided to move to TN after I retired and after we spent a week driving around the eastern part of the state. I came back a month after that trip and looked at dozens of properties for sale before finding 20 acres in Crab Orchard, just east of Crossville. Both of us feel like we found "home." The neighbors are friendly but not intrusive. There's plenty of shopping in the area to satisfy the boss. And property prices were still reasonable, but are going up FAST. A couple of negatives. I pick up a kitchen-sized bag of trash from my 1000 feet of road front once a week during the summer months, half that much in winter. It really ticks me off. And it's hard to impossible to find anyone to do any kind of work out here, you better be equipped and willing to do it yourownself. I was surprised to find out how rainy and windy it is here (having come from WA), but if you're already in TN that won' be a surprise for you. At any rate, my wife and I could NOT be happier than we are in the Crossville area. I'm retired, so I haven't paid serious attention to the job market, but I notice that an awful lot of older folks are still working around here. I think an ambitious young man with some decent skills in most any area could do well here.

  37. Thanks for the link and info @Grayfox54. I'm actually pleased to see companies looking into .22 LR defensive ammo development. While it certainly isn't the ideal self defense round by any stretch, it is most definitely a used in such a role frequently. By Good Guys/Gals and bad. Greg Ellifritz and Claude Werner have written about actual .22 use several times. Obviously they agree to carry and use the most effective (i.e.largest) caliber you can. But the majority of civilian shooting are a "Get off me" "Break contact" type of situation. I will carry a .22 frequently, albeit as a second handgun. My primary being a 9mm or a .38 spl. The .22 is my "Off hand" gun. It's an LCR that with over 2000 rounds fired through it this past year has proven incredibly reliable. I have had one, possibly two, rounds fail to fire on the first strike... and those were with old (circa 2012) Thunderbolts very recently... go figure LOL But a second pull of the trigger got me to the next round. Nice that revolvers can do that. I have a few hundred rounds of Federal Spitfire solids and I keep the little LCR loaded with those. I'll shoot the cylinder full out when I go to the range 3-4 times per month. I've seen folks shot with pretty much everything that fits in a handgun. Most folks survive handgun shooting fwiw...all handguns are pretty anemic. Placement counts! I am in no way suggesting a person should handicap themselves by carrying a less effective round, but I do think the .22 has it's place in the stable. I'm carrying a Glock 19 loaded with 147 gr HST as I type this... but that little .22 is in my pocket. Options are a good thing. https://www.activeresponsetraining.net/using-the-22-for-self-defense https://www.growingupguns.com/2014/09/13/the-special-application-22lr-for-home-defense-part-1-weigh-the-evidence-and-make-a-decision/ ETA part 2: https://www.growingupguns.com/2014/09/16/the-special-application-22lr-for-home-defense-part-2-the-setup/

  38. I understand that everyone is not from Knoxville and Knox County, so i'll try to provide a bit of background. The movers n shakers in Knoxville and the surrounding area have a long history of not giving a damn about anyone but themselves... There have been 3 notable race episodes in Knoxville, two of which ended badly for the black citizenry, the third wuz the Christian-Newsome murders that armed every whitey in Knoxville and the surrounding areas. Back to the first two episodes. The first was in 1919 or 1920. The national guard was deployed with brutal effect. The second was the sixties era " Freedom Rider " incidents which i witnessed as a young man. The KPD came down on peaceful demonstrators like a ton of bricks. They did, in fact, demonstrate police brutality. The perpetrators of the freedom thing were run thru the courts and kicked around pretty well... A serious message was sent. As to the black community in general; the modus operandi " up to now has been to isolate it, leave it alone, and to contain it, with a good dose of " stay in your neighborhood and we'll leave ya alone -- let it spill out, and we'll do bad things to ya ". That was then, this is now... I think the over arching theme is the same... The rhetoric is a bit softer now. That said; I think the minute the "we been wronged- we gonna burn " elements of the black community threaten the moneyed class or the merchant class in knoxburg, there will be hell to pay. opinin leroy, the amateur historian...

  40. I think I have been really forthcoming about indiscretions of my youth Raoul, and if you can show me where I said it surprises me that it "bites me in the ass" I'll thank you and correct it. I was surprised at the denial because I have legally purchased dozens of firearms through FFL's (in California) over the last three decades, so I think all of a sudden getting denied in a free state would surprise you too. But I am NOT a prohibited person and have never committed a crime that would prohibit me from owning a firearm, and in fact paid for my lesser violations with plenty of money and even a little jail time. You know, my debt to society. TN is not "affording me" anything at this point, I have a right guaranteed by US constitutional amendment number two, and a right delayed is a right denied. I appreciated the freedoms in this state, that's why I moved here... I'm not blaming them for anything here, but it's a mistake I need to get cleared up. Thank you.

  41. To be honest, I'm getting really damn annoyed with the entire thing. The BLM march over the weekend didn't help my mood. People were holding signs demanding justice for the kid that brought a gun to school. I don't understand it. Meanwhile we've had god knows how many other black people killed this year by someone other than police and the same community hardly reacts. Have you ever looked at the unsolved homicides on KPD's website? You'll notice a trend. https://knoxvilletn.gov/government/city_departments_offices/police_department/criminal_investigations/unsolved_murder_cases

  43. You know, the SRO in Florida stayed outside and got crucified for doing too little. This cop went in and handled the treat and now they are saying the police were too aggressive. I'm fine with criticizing the police when they deserve it, but I'm starting to think some people just won't be happy no matter what they do.

  44. The comments from the community about this are getting ridiculous. They are acting as if the kid is a victim and hoping to paint this as another case of police brutality. I rarely engage with these people but couldn't stop myself last night. One woman said the cop should have allowed the kid to surrender after he started shooting. I told her next time we'll send in the social worker to disarm the kid and asked if she would volunteer.

  45. You can't really look at it that way though. Each county has a different ratio. Although you can say each county fell one side or the other, that's really meaningless. It's quite telling to look at a purple map and those counties don't stand out quite as much. (I tried looking for one for just TN but you're going to have to work with the whole US). 48. Yes, I got that email as well. I've been waiting to get a cheap complete 16" upper from them, but the price has started going up instead of down again. I bought my last lower from Royal Range, but that's been over a year ago. Found a Spikes Crusader for 99. About all I could afford that day. Still have it. Rolling around in my head is a planned "tribute" rifle to my late brother-in-law. He was always telling me I should have an 18 or 20 inch barreled rifle. Maybe I will get around to it. Have pretty much all needed for the Spikes...good LPK, better trigger than I'd normally have bought, a good set of Troy sights, my NIB BCG, and my BCM Charging Handle. Darn close to being there. lol Got an email for Thunder Ranch complete uppers today. They look pretty good. 700 */- for the upper, depending on add goodies. I didn't really like the hand guards though. I keep coming back to the old MagPul stuff. Just old school I guess. Not able to spend that right now though. Had to replace AC/Heat Pump unit last week and I'm broke. My SS check sure didn't cover it! Might have to offer another pistol or 2 to offset my lost cash!
