I took my second Pfizer shot yesterday about 9am. About 11pm I started feeling like hell. Aches in body and head. Fever. Shivering. Slept terrible. Took some acetaminophen this morning and feel a little better but glad I don’t work today.3 points

I got to shoot some one time on as a part of a “pro” shoot at a range with a whole bunch of ordnance professionals from different organizations/agencies. My favorite target of the day may have been tannerite strapped to 20# LPG tanks at 1000 meters. There was no question as to whether you hit it or not.2 points

I understand that everyone is not from Knoxville and Knox County, so i'll try to provide a bit of background. The movers n shakers in Knoxville and the surrounding area have a long history of not giving a damn about anyone but themselves... There have been 3 notable race episodes in Knoxville, two of which ended badly for the black citizenry, the third wuz the Christian-Newsome murders that armed every whitey in Knoxville and the surrounding areas. Back to the first two episodes. The first was in 1919 or 1920. The national guard was deployed with brutal effect. The second was the sixties era " Freedom Rider " incidents which i witnessed as a young man. The KPD came down on peaceful demonstrators like a ton of bricks. They did, in fact, demonstrate police brutality. The perpetrators of the freedom thing were run thru the courts and kicked around pretty well... A serious message was sent. As to the black community in general; the modus operandi " up to now has been to isolate it, leave it alone, and to contain it, with a good dose of " stay in your neighborhood and we'll leave ya alone -- let it spill out, and we'll do bad things to ya ". That was then, this is now... I think the over arching theme is the same... The rhetoric is a bit softer now. That said; I think the minute the "we been wronged- we gonna burn " elements of the black community threaten the moneyed class or the merchant class in knoxburg, there will be hell to pay. opinin leroy, the amateur historian...2 points

Well. That title covers a lot of territory doesn't it? Had 2 scheduled checkups and blood draws today. My GP and my Oncologist. I talked with both about the Covid Vaccines and my feelings and health issues relating to whether or not to take it. Interesting conversations from both. Especially the gentleman who actually drew the blood. We covered about everything from the source, the intent, and the possible outcomes of this pandemic. Even got into some of the religion side...Revelation and Mark of the Beast territory. But the core of all this is that my Oncologist's comments were this..."Do it. Do it Now!" You are at major risk. Walking time bomb. Just waiting to be infected. Really said that. Well, it seemed that TnOncology was vaccinating all their patients. And since I was in one office, a call was made and I was quite literally immediately shoved out the door and sent to the one where there were some shots still available. So...in spite of my comments here previously; I received the 1st dose of the Moderna Vaccine today. I do feel rather much a hypocrite right now. But it's done. We shall see what happens.1 point

The debate over .22 for self defense? has gone on just about as long as every other caliber war and with similar results. Now Federal has taken it seriously with a new line of Punch Self Defense .22LR ammo. It features a 29 gr, nickle plated FN bullet that comes out of a 2" barrel at around 1070 fps. Out of rifle length barrels is said to reach 1600+ fps. The idea being penetration over expansion. I got this article from Guns America Digest in my e-mail today. Federal Punch .22 ammo I also found this informative video from 22 Plinkster: Federal Punch: 22 Plinkster While the debate may never be truly settled, I like the idea of an ammo company taking the .22LR for self defense seriously and developing ammo for this purpose. For some people its the only viable choice. And yes, I'm well aware that all ammo is hard to get these days. But Federal is offering some of this new ammo for sale in their website. It's just sold out at the moment.1 point

I picked up my shield plus today now just to go fire it see how it does. The shop also told me there currently on the back order list for 9mm ammo said could be 8 months1 point

The 5.45x39 cartridge is in my opinion, better thought out than the 5.56 cartridge. It's a .204" diameter and does shoot flatter and retain velocity better.1 point

GE used to the gold standard. When we bought our house in Nashville (21.5 years ago when you could afford a house in Nashville) we bought GE/kenmore appliances (oven, refrig, dish washer). All lasted 20 years or more. The oven finally died in 2019, the fridg died this past summer (thank you stimulus check) and the dishwasher is still working. I don’t think anything is built to last that long anymore. It’s all “disposable”. When we told the sales folks that the appliances we were replacing were 20+ years old, they were amazed. Heck. the OLD brown GE refrigerator we took out of the kitchen in 1999 is still working in my in-laws pantry. I bet it is close to 40 years old1 point

I can’t give much info on Crossville except it seems to be some sort of retirement community and the temperature there is usually cooler than anywhere else in the mid state. I have a kid about to graduate college in Cookeville. He loves it there. It is a small town that is just big enough to offer most anything you’d want. Nashville and Knoxville are both reasonable drives from there. The real estate market is red hot in both areas right now. Good luck!1 point

5.45x39 is more expensive and tougher to find than 7.62x39. It has better terminal ballistics than 5.56 and higher BC so it shoots further. Very mild recoil in AK74s. I have both and really enjoy shooting the 74 but I cannot say I prefere one over the other. Most 47 accesroies will fit a standard 74 with a few exceptions. Surplus magazines are more expensive but Magpull makes decent ones for a good price. Every gun shop looks at you funny when you ask about 5.45x39. "don't you mean 7.62x39?" is very common, as is front counter guy shouting to somone in the back "we have any 5.45x39?" with the answer most always being "you mean 7.62x39?" so get used to that. Once in a while you meet the "other guy who has a AK74" who smiles and knows right what you are talking about. That all said, I do ok at gunshows recently on 5.45 except for some fools who have it jacked way up in price. Best deals are online, about 40 cents per even today if you look. They operate just like a 47. different size parts is all. Some early Century guns used 5.56 barrels and tend to keyhole so watch for that. I can tell by some subtle changes it is a modernized AK when compared to my 47's. On reloading, Hornady makes dies. Brass is unobtainium though. So are bullets. Nobody has load data so I have dies I have never used. I did clear out the last place I knew with bullets (surplus pulls) and have a bunch of 222 rem brass to convert and do plan to work up a load. With ammo being the way it is I am hopefull the reload market will start supporting it soon. I hope that gives you some decent info.1 point

Appliances are like cars. I will wager the new 2021 model of your choice will be in the junkyard before my 1993 Z-71 is, why you ask. Because I can FIX this one, this new crap was destined for the junkyard!! A 1963 would be an even better option.1 point

I guess I have been lucky with the Haier chest Freezer and two 110 window a/c units I bought from Walmart over 10 years ago cause they have been working flawlessly for over 10 years. I had a friend tell me about them back then so when it came time to buy a new one I bought those and have not regretted it 1 minute. I don't know who makes them but they make a great product......JMHO1 point

Back during the Great Pmag Scare of 2012-2013, Brownell's was running a special on 10 packs of Pmags when it all flared up. Coincidentally, I had just placed 40 of them in my shopping cart when it all blew up. My order went rhough, but of course they were out of stock. My order, along with apparently everybody in the US, was listed as "backordered". Every few months, I got an email asking if I wanted to cancel or stay on the waiting list. As I was out no money, the price was still pre-panic, and Pmags were selling at 10x what I ordered them for, I waited. About 6 months later, I got notified my mags were shipping, and a few days later received a box with 40 Pamgs. Sometimes, patience is a virtue ...1 point

I know an appliance repair guy that had his own shop. Real nice honest guy and business. He said if you ever find one of the old washers and dryers from the 70s or 80s thst still run KEEP THEM. The old ones that had one motor and a belt with manual knobs . He said they will run like an old Honda or Toyota and if they ever do break, they are easily fixed.1 point

I believe the term is "take what we can get"... I agree, however this is a pretty big step forward. It flew under the radar and as as such did not get a lot of scrutiny, or, it would have been killed. Plus we had some friends who pushed back against the attempt to kill it. There are good people in the House, the Senate is a whole 'nuther help line. We did get did get this one through though and I am grateful. This bill mandates that the criminal charge has to be settled before a civil case can move forward, and if there was no crime, no civil suit can proceed. As it stands now you have to prove your innocence to get a chance to recoup your legal expenses. NO LE agency is going to help you do that, they have a hard enough time trying to prove guilt on criminals. And by the way, no mention currently about lost wages, jobs or divorce, or the necessity to plea one caste (criminal or civil) to afford to fight the other or, the use of that plea to facilitate a decision on the remaining one. This is a big deal for self defense...1 point

There are some ancillary benefits to hitting the food truck like that that most people overlook. Not only are you likely to get some bomb ass Mexican food, you’re supporting a small business owner who is likely a first generation immigrant supporting a family. I’m about that kind of spending over a multinational corporation.1 point

From a former LEO's perspective, the shoot was technically warranted. But one must look at the circumstances: people experiencing fight or flight experience tunnel-vision and focus their hearing on the threat. It is probable that the girl didn't see or hear the cop. Regardless of your age, you don't settle and argument with a knife because bad things are bound to happen to you.1 point

As a former LEO and martial artist who has used neck restraints countless times, I agree with the verdict. Once the suspect is cuffed and prone you release the restraint - period. With Chauvin's experience, he knows this. I watched the video screaming at Chauvin to get off his neck. He's getting what he deserves, IMHO. I don't think that the officers behind him are responsible, but the one who could see Floyd's face and clearly hear his pleas should be charged as he was indifferent to the situation.1 point

I've gotten really desperate if I'm having to eat McDonalds. What's crazy is that those places aren't even cheap anymore. For around the same amount I can eat at Chipotle and not feel as guilty about it.1 point

Take off Hoser. I'll give you a personally guided tour of EastTN for two-four of Export. Gawd, its been a while since I had any of the good stuff.... Ontario? Forgive me if I missed it in the thread, kinda skimmed it once I saw you're from the great white north! Buffalo born and bred, moved down here about 5 years ago. Your description of the politics tells me you'll like it here. Though its getting purpler by the day... Chattanooga is a little bluer than Knox IMO, Nashville=big city. Not as big as Toronto, but all the same issues. Never been to Memphis.... for good reason. Weather is a lot warmer, Nashville feels like the South. EastTN is like a really hot and really long summer. Gets nicer earlier, stays nicer longer. If you/wife likes gardening, you're in luck. Internet=civilization. The more rural, the less access. Suburban areas are all wired for high speed (DSL or cable), fibre beginning to show in some places. Knox airport will get you to a hub, few direct flights around the SE. There are some smaller regional airports, but you'll be in a Cessna. You can drive to Atl-Hartfield in about 3-4 hrs, there are also shuttle/limo services that do airport runs. Nashville also has a large airport, is about 3-4 hrs from here. EastTN (Tricities, Jefferson County, etc.) Has some gorgeous Mountain views... I've seen cow pastures along I-40 with million dollar views, if thats your thing. Lots of lakes/water due to TVA dams. I've been very happy with the move down here. If you can get over the border I'd say take a week and drive down. Was serious about the tour, I'd even settle for Golden. LOL! - Kevin1 point
