As a former LEO and martial artist who has used neck restraints countless times, I agree with the verdict. Once the suspect is cuffed and prone you release the restraint - period. With Chauvin's experience, he knows this. I watched the video screaming at Chauvin to get off his neck. He's getting what he deserves, IMHO. I don't think that the officers behind him are responsible, but the one who could see Floyd's face and clearly hear his pleas should be charged as he was indifferent to the situation.10 points

I've been watching it now for over an hour. He also had an extended magazine in his backpack. This DA is about as professional and thorough and we could hope for. I've found her to be extremely credible during this press conference. The kid had a history of violence both with his GF and with law enforcement. He brought a gun to school, he pulled and shot and police, and they returned fire. One shouldn't expect any other outcome. The community should be ashamed of how they jumped to conclusions.5 points

As far as fast food goes, I’ll take chipotle all day long. For seven or eight bucks you get two meals out of stuff that started as whole ingredients this morning. When I’m traveling, I dig the breakfast sandwiches from Starbucks. Again, whole foods and pretty tasty. I could eat the sausage, egg and cheese on an English muffin every day. I don’t know what sort of magic is in those ovens they use - maybe @RED333could tell me - but man they get those things hot fast. If I want a burger that I’m not cooking myself, it’s Hugh Baby’s here in Nashville. A good burger, fries that taste like they’re cooked in beef tallow (like the McDonald’s of old - millennials, I’m sorry you never experienced these), and good shakes.5 points

Near every weekend I'm able, I walk over to the Nashville Farmers Market and order at least one Arepa from a food truck called Caracasville. https://www.instagram.com/caracasville/?hl=en It's exactly what you describe; first generation immigrants supporting their family, or in this case, the family working together to support themselves since they all seem to work shifts. The food is AMAZING and the people are awesome. Always kind, cheerful, and good members of the community. I remember the morning after the tornado hit Nashville last year, they were at the Farmers market supporting those using it as a shelter with free food.4 points

You need to try a different CFA. I dont think I have had more than one dry piece of chicken from them ever.4 points

There are some ancillary benefits to hitting the food truck like that that most people overlook. Not only are you likely to get some bomb ass Mexican food, you’re supporting a small business owner who is likely a first generation immigrant supporting a family. I’m about that kind of spending over a multinational corporation.4 points

If you’re in the mood for a taco, burrito or anything like that. Drive past chipotle and find the nearest taco truck. Doesn’t matter. Any taco truck will do. You’ll get far and away a much, much better meal for less money.4 points

I've gotten really desperate if I'm having to eat McDonalds. What's crazy is that those places aren't even cheap anymore. For around the same amount I can eat at Chipotle and not feel as guilty about it.4 points

I completely agree. We have an excellent DA that doesn’t play around. That kid and everyone around him is the only reason he died on a ####house floor.3 points

I repair McDonald’s milkshake machines on occasion. You really really really do not want to drink milkshakes from McDonald’s or anywhere. Nobody, and I mean nobody takes care of their machine as far as cleaning as they really should.3 points

Howdy folks, recently relocated from the North East in pursuit of Freedom & Whiskey. I'm a lifelong handgun, rifle, class III, gunsmith/reloading enthusiast. Got a collection my wife thinks is about half of what it is. Looking forward to finding and spending time at some local outdoor spots + getting to know some fellow TN shooters.2 points

So much I want to say here...but will do several things that are bad for me. One, I'll be labeled as a racist. Two, I'll be accused of wanting genocide. So only a few comments. I cannot fathom some of the statements made in this video. Burn the city down? Ok...go ahead Your home is there too. It's gone. Where will you go? Run back to white government and scream for more houses to live in? Where will your food and money come from? Rioters/looters are only taking are only taking things out of frustration and are just going to destroy it all to make a point? Bull***t! When you break into a business and carry out shopping carts of merchandise, pull up cars and load them up...that's not frustration. That's theft. Yeah, I saw all the tv sets, clothing, shoes, and cases of liquors set afire in the streets. Did all that just to show how much you care about Floyd, Breianna and the others. Sure makes a strong statement. Kill all the whites to end racism? Wow. That's just incredible. Where will those two females end up in that situation? Start a civil war? Nuts. There might be an eradiation of some, starting with all the street corner loudmouths threatening restaurant patrons and owners, vandals and looters; but a whole race? You seriously do not want to start that ladies. It just might not go as you would think or like.2 points

I hate to break it to you guys but I suspect few people are wearing gloves when they make your food. That includes nicer sit down restaurants too. At the restaurant I worked at for 6 years, I never saw the cooks wearing gloves.2 points

My wife was skeptical of this until I proved it to her. Now she goes and gets tacos there regularly. They are delicious.2 points

My apartment building is across the street from the new Tennessee State Library and Archives building that just opened. When construction was in progress while I was at home because COVID closed the office, I got in line with the workers when the food truck hit their job site more than a couple times.2 points

There is no way what Chauvin did was acceptable. He got what he deserved. That being said, I agree with this statement. The events yesterday in Columbus OH are a great example of this. We've entered a new era where no matter what the circumstances are, if a black person is killed by police it immediately leads to protests and outrage. Don't even wait for the facts to come out. Celebrities were tweeting about it and folks like Ben Crump immediately jumped at the chance to get involved. I couldn't believe how hard the cops had to tip toe around the issue in the press conference yesterday. They had to go on and on about how tragic it was that a girl was killed after she began stabbing other girls. We have her on video going after people with a knife and folks have made her out to be a victim. No one showed a single shred of sympathy for the other girls that were being attacked with a knife. Bring on the social workers. Let's disarm the cops and see how it goes.2 points

I wish this red state could manage to pass one comprehensive gun bill that would fix all issues at once. The way our HCP is only a defense against charges of going armed is ridiculous. Also it being a crime to carry past a gunbuster sign is also ridiculous. Also why cant this bill prohibit completely lawsuits that were deemed legal by the legal system? Why cant a red legislature with a red governor do this right?1 point

I like McDonald's breakfast. They make a pretty good biscuit with an assortment of fillings. I'm fond of the bacon, egg and cheese biscuit myself. The breakfast platters with eggs, pancakes and such ain't too bad. Its a quick and easy meal for a decent price. But then I don't eat breakfast there very often. I don't eat their burgers at all. For one thing you gotta take it the way they make it or not at all. I just don't like the crap they put on a burger. On the very rare occasion that I have no choice other than McDonald's, I just get chicken nuggets. Actually, I'm very limited in my choices for burgers. Most places use sesame seed buns and I can't have those. (Diverticulitis}. For the most part, I'm pretty much limited to Wendy's, Sonic and Krystals. But that's Ok because I like those places pretty well. My biggest reason for not eating at some fast food places is that the previously mentioned don't-give-a-crap kids can't get an order right. There's a Wendy's less than a mile from my house, but I rarely go there because they ALWAYS screw up the order. Every damned time!1 point

The Knox County DA has been giving a very detailed press conference the past couple of hours, including video evidence, laying out the entire timeline and events leading up to this shooting. There will be no charges filed against the officer that fired. The shooting was an utterly chaotic situation. Being this is a gun forum, the kid had a Glock 9mm of some kind, KPD still appears to be using SIg P220's1 point

While I try to cook most meals at home or hit up locally owned places, sometimes you just have to hit one of the fast food joints. Our local Arby’s is pretty good and convenient to my son’s school so I can grab it on the way to his baseball or soccer. If I want chicken sandwich I hit up Wendy’s. Popeyes for a taste of Louisiana. Love their red beans and rice and their jambalaya isn’t bad. And anyone who disses Krystal, well you just ain’t from round these parts. Not that I need to eat there often to get my fix, but every now and again they hit the spot. For Tex-Mex it is usually Salsaritas or Moes. Moes used to be all my some would eat out, but he’s moved to Salsaritas which has better chips and quality of food. I also agree about food trucks, but they are not any better priced in Chattanooga. I can’t eat any cheaper there, and often more expensive and takes longer. But hey, first world problems if all we have to worry about is which food place gets my money. At least we have options.1 point
-
I agree about the quality, but the less money is suspect. I hit the trucks now and then and if I spend the same I get less food, good, but less. Yes, we here at the compound have given some trucks enough business that the owner established a hard stand. As to the other fast food places, I can find 'something' that will do at most places, McD's, it's the McGriddle, or their Egg McMuffin, used to love the fries but they changed the ingredients and ruined them. And it goes on, the Spicy Chicken sandwich from Wendy's or Popeyes, Chicken Zalad from Zaxby's, Thick Burger and Biscuit and Gravy from Hardees etc, etc. I even get some Captain Ds now and then. Are they great, no, not even close, but will do when on the road or work too late to cook. The prices have gone up, and will probably continue to do so until business goes down and price finds it's stability point. But one thing for sure, fast food will not go away, we, all of us, will continue to be too busy to cook our own.1 point

I used to spend 42 weeks a year on the road. I have tried dozens of locations across a multitude of states. Never once have I been impressed with anything other than the service. I generally avoid them but sometimes it was the best/only option for a fast lunch on a driving day.1 point

I'll hit up McDonald's if I want a cheap McChicken and McDouble hungry fix. But aside from that, it's nothing special. For a bigger fast food burger Wendy's is my spot; Sonic if I have to. Hardee's actually has a good burger as well and I like getting them in the mix, but they're harder to find than Wendy's or Sonic it seems. I also grab some Chick-Fil-A during off-peak hours from time to time when in a chicken mood. While their stuff isn't as magical as people pretend, it's in the pretty good range (their sauces are well above average) and it's never been bad, something a lot of other places can't say. Chipolte I just don't get...at all. It's so bland and basic to me. Everyone in the Nashville broadcast area needs to see if they have an Oscar's Taco Shop nearby and give it a try if you haven't yet. If I was offered a free meal at Chipolte when Oscar's is an option at my own expense...I'd have to think about it.1 point

From a former LEO's perspective, the shoot was technically warranted. But one must look at the circumstances: people experiencing fight or flight experience tunnel-vision and focus their hearing on the threat. It is probable that the girl didn't see or hear the cop. Regardless of your age, you don't settle and argument with a knife because bad things are bound to happen to you.1 point

I got off of fast food when I hit 300# and decided I wanted to be around for the other half of my life. Thats been well over a decade ago and even then McDonald's ingredients were trash. When you can dribble a McRib back to your car that should tell you what your guts in for.1 point

As an Old Road Warrior, I ate McDonalds so frequently it was just absurd. However, back in the dim past...the 80s/90s, it was at least cheap(er) than now. I could get a Quarter Pounder Meal for 2.99. That at least made it reasonable for a quick lunch out on the road that I could eat between stops. I later started going to Burger King for much the same reasons, but I thought the food was a bit better. At least it had some flavor to it. But as Erik88 says, today the fast food meals are 9-12 bucks at the same burger places. On occasion, I'll get that Mickey D craving and stop in. Then I remember why I had stopped...still the same cardboard-like flavor in the meals. And still not even cheap.1 point

Thanks for sharing; I appreciate the link. Scott Altlas doesn't offer supporting evidence on masks being ineffective and is mainly grinding an axe because he was panned so being far out side the rest of the medical community. Maybe that is because he isn't a disease expert and he seems more focused on on social issues, which is not his training/specialty, either. I don't know why he claims to have no freedom to exercise his thoughts, etc, because he seems to have ample ability and platforms at his disposal, but I suppose some folks feel that way when their ideas are not accepted. One of his ideas was to simply let the disease spread through the population in order to develop "herd immunity". Could matters have been handled differently? Certainly. Did Scott Atlas have the answers? Certainly not. Is he allowed to speak freely an offer his opinion? Yes, contrary to his statements, he has been able to be in a position to promote ideas as a special advisor the the ex-president. And, in spite of his advice, the pandemic worsened and he later resigned. There may be some real debate about the efficacy of masks in some situations, however, social distancing, limiting gatherings and reducing crowd-sizes play a huge role in reducing transmission because you can't spread air-borne pathogens very effectively if you remove the people. On the bright side: the end of the tunnel is getting closer and it will soon be football time in Tennessee!1 point

She lost me when she started up with the whole "systemic racism", there is no credible evidence that this is the case, at least in how they portray it. Yes, there are a bunch of examples of racism, but to say it's "systemic" means we have policies in place that purposefully discriminate because of race. In fact, I'd argue that it is the opposite.1 point
