Very true. I agree. However, word of warning.... Years ago in a passed life I had several saltwater reef aquariums, helped startup a local hobby club, and participated in online chat forums regularly on Reefcentral (TGO for reefers!) We started having club meetings at peoples homes (cuz you can't haul a 200 gallon aquarium to the park!) Really good times: pizza, chips, soda, coffee, great conversations, faces to names, and the trading, OMG the trading... people pull up with 50 gal coolers filled with little plastic baggies... but I digress. One longtime member hosted a meeting at his house to show off a new and fairly rare coral he had just acquired. Lots of new members showed up. A week later, someone had broken into his home during the day, and stole that piece of coral. That was the last club meeting we ever held. I do not invite people I do not know personally in to my home anymore.7 points

Up until the most recent "scare" I have never had an issue with anyone doing what they say they are going to do on TGO. Recently I have had a no show (guy is gone from TGO apparently), and an issue where someone has offered up a gun I was looking for then broke off communication completely when I asked for a price. I guess its the times now. I was raised to do what I said I was going to do when I said I was going to do it. I have passed up higher offers on guns and accessories after I had verbally committed to a deal with another person, even on Armslist. Its the right thing to do. Sorry just venting a little.3 points

Watched all of the s***show I could stomach this morning. Sanctamonious rats! Despise listening to their blathering at any time! And that slimy little dweeb Jerry Nadler just makes me livid!3 points

Good lesson here. I don't even talk to friends about how many guns I own. I don't like people to know when we're on vacation. When we have people over I make sure valuables(we don't have many ) are out of sight and guns are put away. Basically, the less people know, the better.3 points

Go into a situation with someone shooting at you in a confined space where bullet can Ricochet and try to stop the threat. It’s a risk these cops take everyday. These decisions are made in a split second. not directed at you Chuck, but I think too many lose sight of the reality that things happen so fast you just react. Sometimes bad things happen. Doesn’t mean anyone did anything wrong.2 points

This is genuine tragedy... That said, it baffles me that anyone could believe that toting a gun to school and tussling with policemen could lead to anything other than a bad end; or that bystanders n interested parties could third base this tragic outcome by blaming the actions of those sworn to protect others. It is simply beyond my ability to empathize with anyone who could envision such fantastic ending. These people are simply living in an alternate universe... A bunch of lives have been affected for the worse and the community as a whole has been damaged as the result of this senseless episode. No one, no matter their creed, color, or belief system should assume they could survive such a confrontation given the current atmosphere. This part of Knoxville is " Tombstone ", and everyone involved knows it. Welcome to hell... Sigh... sad leroy...2 points

Good for you. I don't trust that easy. People have to show me an investment in the group before I accept them - particularly at my house. When people have 1 or 2 posts and it's a for sale ad it's not an investment; it's sales, and it's no better than meeting someone from Craig's List.2 points

I carry a Glock 48 IWB in a Comp-Tac CTAC holster at about 8 o’clock (lefty). The CTAC is a 43 holster that I drimeled the opening for a 48. This combo is comfortable all day and hides well under a t-shirt. I’m 5’10/185 and am relatively fit, but will never be mistaken for Mr. Olympia. Several portly-type friends have insisted that IWB could never work for them, only to eventually find a combination that works. I just can’t do the appendix thing—a striker fired gun pointed at junk and femoral stuff is just a deal breaker.2 points

It's interesting that you need to show an ID to purchase a gun cleaning kit, yet many States don't require an ID to vote. It's a sad commentary on the status of our society.2 points

I do not think the TGO is changing. But I am a little wary of a new member with zero posts and zero feedback. However, there was a time that we all were in that boat.2 points
-
I haven't had that issue, but I would certainly leave negative feedback for someone that didn't show up. That is about the only recourse we have. If they post without a price listed, they are probably new to TGO so a good indication to not get your hopes up too much. It is unfortunately a part of the current situation. On the other side, I have dealt with some new guys that have been great. I feel it is important we don't lump them all in to one group, but certainly we need to hold all to our standards (at least when selling ).2 points

this IS my social media. I have found I do not care to associate with most people. If I want to be social I normally go out somewhere people are. Mainly car shows, gun shows, and church.1 point

I agree to a point, but that a LEO bullet hit another LEO, someone did something wrong. Either the LEO shot himself or the other LEO shot his partner, but either way one or both did something wrong. But all that means is that they need more training, which means more funding, not less. As to the perp's outcome, well, unless it turns out he had his weapon on the ground with his hands up (very unlikely) then I say it was a justified shooting.1 point

I have always strongly cautioned my sons and friends who know of my collection to NEVER mention it to other people. Y'all know how the rumor mill works. You tell someone, they tell someone, who tells someone else, etc and so on. Each time the story changes a little bit. By the time it gets around enough, all of a sudden I'm a 90 year old man in poor health who has a gun collection worth a million dollars. Some BG hears it and decides you would be and easy target. I don't need that in my life. While I may show off some of my stuff here and on other gun boards, I will never reveal the full nature of my collection. Hell, we all do it to some degree. We wanna show off our latest acquisition or an old classic. Its part of what our internet community is all about. However, I have actually seen people on forums post a complete list of everything they own. Some of them quite large. That won't be me.1 point

When i carried my FNH FNP-45USG as my EDC, I carried OWB in a good leather holster, but eventually the weight of that gun with 16 rounds of .45 acp goodness in it along with extra mags of 15 rounds each of .45 acp goodness became just too much for my weak old self to carry, lol. I now carry my Sig P-365XL(with optic) in a Crossbreed Supertuck IWB holster. I alternate between an SOE Cobra belt and an Elite Survival Systems carry belt with cobra buckle. Both these belts are very rigid nylon webbing and fully support eh weight of the gun and spare mag i carry. I tried a We The People holster and while it was comfortable enough, it fell off my belt with gun in it a couple times around the house so i stopped using it., I also liked a Galco Mini tuck but couldn't use it after i added my optic. I agree with others above that a good holster coupled with a great gunbelt is the only way.1 point

A forum like this is the extent of my interaction with “social media”. I never have understood the need to share my life to that extent with the world. I do have a Linked In account that is just work.1 point

I've carried a Shield with a 7-round flush mag at 3 o'clock in a CompTac MTAC holster with a slight forward cant and found it hides very well there, though I do have to buy shirts a size larger to disguise the added bulk. I also carry a pair of 8-round mags IWB at 9 o'clock and find that balances everything very well. I've never tried it further back on my hip as that would seem to interfere with seat backs, etc, and given that I spend all day in a chair, that might not be very comfortable.1 point

I can appreciate that view. That said, I always have beef with any officer, hell, anyone, who injures someone through non-judicious use of their firearm. You shoot someone who needs shooting, I’m on your side. You shoot someone who doesn’t need shooting, Imma let you know you done wrong.1 point

There is no doubt that it is. People post way too much personal stuff online - even if they think their privacy setting protects them, which they don't. It may not even be a "friend" but your friend might mention what you have in casual conversation to another, or overheard by another, who decides that they want what you have.1 point

I don't have a beef with any of them. They removed the threat. The SRO might disagree however.1 point

As has been said, it depends on your hardware & your "software" as to what works for you. I'm a southpaw, which has it's own challenges; most times I carry AIWB-ish since that suits my (recently slimmer) body-type and needs. Around the house I often settle for a 9mm in a front pocket holster. I advise that whatever you choose, do practice your draw & presentation (unloaded of course) from various positions (driving, prone, seated, etc). I've seen too many times where precious seconds were lost due to fumbling, holster or cover-clearing failures, and so on that were mainly due to a lack of testing/practice beforehand.1 point

I’m a heavy critic of policing, yet I fail to see what the other options were for the officer as it stands with the information we currently have. As the known information changes, my view might, but as of now I don’t have issue with the result. Doesn’t make it any less tragic of an outcome.1 point

You know, the SRO in Florida stayed outside and got crucified for doing too little. This cop went in and handled the treat and now they are saying the police were too aggressive. I'm fine with criticizing the police when they deserve it, but I'm starting to think some people just won't be happy no matter what they do.1 point

Sounds like someone I'd get along with. Add motorcycles, though. I'm a new member, having been here (the forum and Tennessee) less than a year. So far I've had some limited contact with other members and all have been very positive. Every friend I have was once a new acquaintance.1 point

No one is forcing anyone to buy anything. Do what makes you feel good...or don't.. That's ok. To each his own. If a brand spanking new guy comes to market with a gun I want at a fair price, I will at least inquire. You can tell most times if they are trouble or not just by the way they respond to questions.1 point

I have, and occasionally still do carry on a couple of different locales. The reality is that you’re going to just have to figure out what works for you by trial and error. No way around it. I’ve got a gut, but primarily carry AIWB with a sidecar. Pistol at 12/12:30. There is a comfort penalty, but that’s where I prefer it. It doesn’t work for everyone. I have carried at 3:30/4 o’clock. Anything further back, while generally concealing ok, just feels too far back to get to quickly and efficiently. A quality holster and a quality, dedicated gunbelt are a necessity if you wish to carry well. Without those two items, be prepared for a long struggle until you eventually drop the coin you needed to drop in the first place.1 point

I'm well on the chubby side and carry a P365 in an Alien Gear IWB holster at 4 o'clock. It's so comfortable that I never really feel it there. IMHO if you're going to carry, then carry. The reality is that you won't get to choose when (hopefully and likely never) you need to have it. Better to be looking at it than looking for it. The other obvious piece is regular training and drills with your setup so you can draw from different positions and engage targets in different directions.1 point

I, plain and simple, do not do business with new members on this forum. I do not trust those that become members just to sell ____. I look for members who actually contribute to the forum, and I get a read of what they are like. Those that come here to sell _____ do not care about negative feedback. In fact, I wish that Dave would constrict the ability to sell items beyond being a benefactor - like benefactor for a year.1 point

Been here less than a year. Post when I feel like I should. Try to stay out of the dog house with other members. I have only made on purchase from another member and had no issues whatsoever. In the few months I've been a member I have seen a change myself in the members both new and established. I believe it is a sign of the time we are in. Everyone is nervous and edgy, there is very little trust and zero tolerance. If I am buying I expect to go to where the seller is or chooses. If I am uncomfortable, I would just back out. Some seem to believe they should just not show. As for sales,,,I'm not selling. Every gun I have sold save one I want back. And even that one I believe could have been repaired. I made one deal and asked the man who is local if he would like to meet at the Sherriff's office or police dept. He told me to come to his house. I was a little nervous but went anyway. I met a very nice man, older than myself. he showed me his house his radio controlled airplanes, his HAM equipment. I met his dog, saw a room with many arms. we talked for about an hour and a half. One never knows. mutual respect needs to be restored or society is doomed.1 point

I guess I'll put up with a lot of crap from Academy. Not that there has been any ammo on the shelf in the past year, but before ammo got scarce this time Academy was the only place around that kept ammo at a decent price. (Especially since Walmart decided to pick and choose what calibers they are going to carry) Honestly, if they want to have some asinine rule that says that I have to show ID to buy fishing bobbers, I'll probably just do it and go about my day, I have bigger things to worry about.1 point

For enough of the world to be vaccinated to bring Covid to bay, the J&J seems to provide the best hope due to the minimal refrigeration need, one dose admin, efficacy, and price. The AstraZeneca is similar, but the two dose regimen is a significant drawback. - OS1 point

Stuff like what you have is common enough. Personaly, what I would do is take the sight back out, clean the filed off spot with easy start spray and flux it a tad and tin the cut by adding some soft solder. Now re file the solder off but go more carefully leaving it to fill your gap. Press it back in and now you have a solid fit for good.1 point

People all over the world and on this board have been arguing back and forth about this virus for over a year now. Both sides have valid points, but are also just rehashing the same things over and over again. I. too, believe that there is some sort of conspiracy involved, perhaps many. But I still don't know what, why or who might be involved. Odds are that none of us will ever know for sure. I see no point in continuing to beat this poor, dead horse. The one thing that I do know is that on the advice of several of my personal doctors, whom I trust and have managed to keep my sorry butt alive much longer than I should have, I was a good puppy and got my shots. I will keep wearing a mask and I will keep social distancing. I truly believe we have a very long way to go yet. What you do or believe is entirely up to you.1 point
