Funny story.... In my past life as a Prepress wizard extrordinaire, I was working at an MBE print shop downtown. Only 2 white guys in the whole place (the estimator and me)..., that was the shop where I came across the photo I'm currently using as my avatar! So a bunch of the guys would get lunch from some bodega down the street every Friday. Real home cooked soul food, 10 bucks, got a big styrofoam clamshell filled with whatever they made that week. Driver walked around at 11:30 taking orders from everyone in the plant, I'd stop for a sniff, sometimes it was interesting, smelled good, sometimes. One day Kameron our driver asks "wanna try some?" Me: Smells good. What is it? Kameron: Ox Tails, white beans and rice with greens. Me:...... Kameron: (holds up forkful) Me: Nah man, white folks don't eat that part of the cow. They were all rolling on the floor laughing. Ya know its funny, out of all the jobs I've had and places I've worked, I experienced the least amount of racial tension while there. We'd cut up all kinds of jokes and stereotypes about each other, nobody got offended. Good times!

After yesterday's freakin' Spring Storms did y'all make it through okay? We stayed in the storm shelter from 6PM till 1AM this morning basically for nothing. Yeah we had lots of rain but thankfully nothing much materialized here. Just thankful we have one. I hate spring storms!!!

If you are a little tech savvy and want a fun project, put together a Pi-Hole DNS server for your home. It runs on one of those raspberry Pi mini computers (they are just fun to have no matter what) that cost maybe $50. You don't even need the latest greatest Raspberry Pi either, it will run fine on previous gen hardware. Here are the basics: The Internet runs on IP addresses. We humans can't remember them, but we can remember words. So for example, XYZ.com has an IP address behind it. We use DNS servers to convert friendly words that make up a website name into the ip address that is behind that name. So, when I type in xyz.com, your computer talks to the DNS server that you have configured, and asks that DNS server what IP address to use. All this happens under the covers of your computer and you never even have to think about it. What the Pi-Hole does is it becomes your DNS server, so to speak. It has a very long list of web site names in it that are on a blacklist. If your browser tries to query DNS (the Pi-hole) for the IP address of a site on the black list, the DNS server returns back an empty value. This means your browser will not display that bit of the web page. It could be the whole web page (say a malicious site, or perhaps something you don't want your kids looking at), or it could just be an ad that is displayed in a frame of the web page. Any web site that is not in the black list, the Pi-Hole will forward that query on to another DNS server out in the Internet somewhere. It could just be your ISP's DNS server, that you are probably using today, or you can pick from a list of others that may offer you yet another layer of security. What ends up happening is thousands of web requests are just dropped as your computer makes these queries for IP addresses. It saves you bandwidth, but more importantly, you get way less ads in your browser, and relative to this thread, you block many of these tracking sites. It always surprises me when I visit a web page of a site I go to frequently, and I'm not protected by my Pi-Hole. The pages look completely different because of all the ads. There is really nice dashboard that you can view on the Pi-Hole, and what an eyeopener it is. Mine is blocking crap 24 hours a day, thousands per hour. I kid you not. Crap you wouldn't even think about, like Alexa, or your Roku, or your cell phone, YOUR TV, are all talking to something all day long.

I emptied my rain gauge at 9 last evening, 2 1/2", and again this morning 3". Bradley Creek, across the road was up, but not over the road. The 10 acre field, next to our home, was under water up to our front yard. So far no damage except several tree limbs down in our back yard. I live by the Harpeth. The river is normally in between the two woodlines in this thumbnail. At about 1:15 in the video you can see a bend in the river to the top left and that it crosses almost across that farm to connect back on itself. The wind was very high. I have 4 other videos I took around 11am in the same area. This one was at 4ish and the wind was very high. I decided to bring my drone back before I lost it to wind. During the 2010 flood it went above the bridge and the road. Washed out a good bit of the road and it made going to work and getting home a lot more involved. They are looking to replace the bridge soon with a suspension one I was told by the people who live at the corner.

The alternate is buying cheap clothes that don't last. My wife and I did that for years and we finally got to the point that we're done buying cheap, made in China clothes. One of our goals this year is to buy as little stuff made in China as possible. Its been difficult.

Well...I really didn't expect the reactions from so many when I started my little comment. Guess I wasn't thinking to well. I've watched and read all these comments and as ReeferMac says, I believe only time will tell who, if any, of us is right or wrong. I've talked to friends, family, neighbors, and some of us here about my decision and the opinions of each. Those opinions are just as varied as we have here. Can't say that my own perception of the vaccines have really changed in the last 2 weeks. In retrospect, had I not held such a high opinion of my Oncologist; I believe I would not have taken the vaccine. But that cannot be undone. So whatever my personal outcome, it's in God's Hands. But, it surely cannot be mass hysteria that so many around this nation and the world still question the virus and it's origins, it's effects and lethality, the vaccines, and the possible motives behind it all. I was a "sheeple" for many years, most of my life in fact. Never questioned anything. Took what was said and handed to me at face value. It must be true and good for me. The TV and government said so. I lived...no...existed. Watching the world and my life go by. What changed my and my outlook is personal and not open for discussion at this time. What is important is that I did begin to look around. To see the world beyond my 2 foot personal space. To think. To question people, government. Ask why we are so obsessed with things. Why do we accept because a "leader" tells us it is so, right, and true. When did we start believing the comments of a "celebrity" was always the truth and more important than mine? I opened my eyes. For the first time I think. Not that I'm a great and wise man. Far from it. But I'm looking, questioning, and hopefully learning now. So back to the Covid-19, and now it's variants. Was this a man-made virus? I say absolutely Yes to that. I don't believe that it came from a fruit market where bats, rats, or whatever lived. It came from the WuHan Lab. Far too many established medical professionals attest to this. Even the former Director of the CDC says it is. My lay opinion has not changed one whit on that. When first brought to national attention, "News" readers told us that it did come from the Wuhan labs and that a, or multiple technicians had been affected and had been the cause of the infection's spreading. That was squelched about two days in and all references and video removed. I KNOW I saw and heard it, as I'm sure many others did as well. Whether this was an accidental release, or...as I, in my tinfoil hat theories contend; it was a test release at the least. Just to determine our, the US's and the world's reactions and capabilities to respond to a viral release/attack. Agree with me or not, this virus has changed our lives, our country, and our world for the worse. Jobs lost. Businesses closed, many forever. Lives of families changed. Schools and universities closed. Social interactions curtailed. Dependence on government "Help, even Rescue" pushed to an extent we would not have thought possible. Living online almost 24/7. Damage to the nuclear family, which was already hanging by a thread, pushed further along towards complete loss. Many(more) accepting a government dole rather than working. Well you should be able to see it as well. Agree or not, it's your choice. But I think it is clearly a plan that at best is allowing the inmates to run the asylum; and at worst, a plan to fully control our lives. We have seen and talked of the "cradle to grave" government over the past few decades. I think I's here now. Just a few short steps away from fruition for our controllers. Whether you believe those in control to be some Uber-rich, Elitist New World Order, a military cabal, or just the Illuminiti coming to power at long last; Change has come. And it is here to stay.

I'm a big fan of the patagonia lightweight shorts. Maybe not as durable as some of the duluth options others have called out, but the breathability is worth it to not fight swamp a$$ all summer.

We do not have a Conservative anything related to our TN legislature. If I could construct in your minds a meme, of a relay team of runners, consisting of Jimmy Naifeh, Beth Harwell, Glen Casada with Cameron Sexton being the final leg, I would do so and maybe I could then improve the consideration of the voters in Tennessee that the stuff hitting your shoes is NOT rain water...

If you can't find an 870, as others have suggested, a Mossberg 500 series is a good choice. In the event that is not satisfactory, I would also suggest a Browning BPS or a Benelli Nova. Good luck, good shooting and good hunting!

I'll just say this. I got an 870 12 gauge when I was 12 years old. It has been my go to shotgun up until I came across a nice Browning a few months ago. I've beat the crap out of it, run slugs, buckshot, and quite a few 3" turkey loads. The gun has been great. It does get difficult to cycle when it goes a few years between cleanings. I turn 39 this year. All of that said, I was gifted a Mossberg Shockwave and I believe I prefer the location of everything on the Mossbergs over the layout of the Remington. I would gladly own either, and do.

Hi all, I was in town getting tire on the car and decided to go to Academy sports to get a couple of big key rings that boaters use. Well as I am an old man I stopped by to inspect their plumbing and happened to see...... wait, yes it was AMMO. There was a cart behind the counter 2 box limit. They had 3 flavors of 9mm from $17.99-18.49 for 50, had .40, .308, 7.62x39, some cci 22. and more. This was at almost 10a.m., the lady at the counter said they weren't expecting it, it just showed up. I got 2 boxes of 9 for a friend as I don't have a 9. You never know what you might see just around the corner. Btw this was in Cookeville.

Why not just go with a 870? Plenty of them have screw-in chokes. The other option is a Mossberg 500 variant. Also has plenty of screw-in chokes. Both have vast aftermarket support in parts, accesories, stocks, and also a plethora of choke tubes to pick from. You can accesorize to go from ducks, to turkeys, to deer, to tactical all with the same reciever. It's just a matter of swapping out bits.

Armslist screwed themselves when they went to charging just to answer an ad. I can see a charge to sell, but to buy is ridiculous. The Memphis Armslist used to easily run 15-16 pages or more of guns for sale. Now its maybe half that and slowly shrinking. The only ones selling are the ads where the seller is smart enough to put a phone number in them. Its seems that ads without phone numbers just sit there for a very long time. I've seen several guns I was interested in, but not enough to pay a fee just to contact the seller.

TGO has unfortunately, from time to time, been visited by those who lack morals and ethics and would like to take advantage of the good graces and trusting nature of our fine members. This activity almost always seems to increase when social conditions are turbulent, especially if the turbulence is centered around the ability to find and buy guns or ammo. Lately we have had to boot a few people who were exhibiting suspicious behavior. We want you to be aware of this fact and to be sure to check a person's status on TGO before you commit to doing business with them as either the seller or the buyer. This is especially true if the other person encourages you to take communication with them "off the forum" and to email or some sort of instant messaging service. Before you buy or sell: Look to see whether they have have an active account or if they've been banned since you started talking to them. If you are going to meet to conduct business, do it during daylight hours and in a heavily trafficked, very public, neutral meeting place. Don't invite people to your home. Don't agree to meet people at theirs. MOST police and sheriff's stations have space at their parking lot where you can meet for selling and buying with strangers. Other good places are parking lots of busy business and in sight of their security cameras. Trust your gut instincts whether just when communicating online or meeting in person. If something feels "off" or "weird" - trust your gut. Feel free to involve me, @MacGyver, @Chucktshoes or one of the other moderators in a private conversation with the other party, or just contact us off to the side if you have concerns. Some of the suspicious activity that we've seen includes: People answering a Want To Buy ad claiming to have what you want, or that they know a friend or family member who does, and offering to broker an exchange between you and them. When it is fraudulent, this sort of thing often quickly becomes ridiculously complex and harder than it should be to do a simple transaction. Your warning senses should start tingling. We insist that people never list an item for sale for a friend on TGO for a reason. First Person is simpler, easier and often safer. People asking if you will ship a gun to them out of state or if you require proof of residency. Shipping a gun out of state always requires that you send it to an FFL in that state. An in-person buyer has to be a resident of your state. Again, heed your warning senses. People asking you to send money to them via PayPal "Friends and Family". Remember, first of all PayPal doesn't allow you to pay for guns and certain other things with their service. If you do and you get hosed on a deal, you may have no protection with PayPal. Second, sending money via Friends and Family saves the recipient a measly 3% charge but it also means you get zero protection via PayPal if the other person hoses you. Strangers insisting that they meet you after dark, or at a remote location, or at your house or theirs. This is a big NO. Don't do this. People asking if they can send a friend to pick up a gun from you instead of meeting you themselves. This is also a big NO. It can quickly become an illegal "straw purchase". Again, trust your gut instincts. You have them for a reason. It's safer to heed them and risk offending a person than it is to ignore them and end up the victim of a scam or worse. I really do hope TN passes it. Not a snowball's chance on national though. We had it in my previous state and wiht the exception of one or two dumbasses, nothing "bad" ever happened. What TN will need is a supremacy clause with it. That way local entitites can't pass ordinaces that make you illegal just becuase you crossed some city limit.
