With my cancer diagnosis two years will be a mile stone for me buddy. Besides I'm 54yrs old, just had 5 bypasses to correct my heart problems, then get a stage 4 cancer diagnosis, I got nothing to loose. I get my ass up every day at 4:30am, no I don't go to work cause I had to take an early retirement do to my condition, I excercise also, I'm 184# down from 225. I treat every day as a blessing. Shot or no shot I'm choosing to take it, and I'm not going to debate any further on this.8 points

It's ironic that many of the people concerned about what might be in the vaccine, will sustain themselves on junk food, fried food, soda, cigarettes and alcohol. Suddenly we have people concerned about their health in a country that really isn't healthy. I had a conversation with my neighbor Sunday who told me she was concerned about the vaccine right after she put out a cigarette. I guess I have a different view of what common sense is.5 points

Today, Ruger unveiled the new "MAX-9" 10-round "micro" compact 9mm....https://www.ruger.com/products/max-9/models.html In the next day or so S&W will announce the M&P Shield Plus, also a 10-rounder. Both are trying to get in on the P365 and Hellcat market, finally.4 points

I am watching the J&J vaccine with interest. If I am going to do one, it will probably be that one. I am not an anti-vaxxer, lest anyone be left with that idea. I do the flu shot practically every year and have not sprouted a second head because of it yet. I just want these COVID-19 vaccines to get some miles under their belt before I embrace them, especially the radically new ones. Until then, I've had the real deal and that should suffice for a while. I also plan to not embrace any more social distancing unless some crazy new extraordinarily virulent and lethal version of COVID-19 or other nasty plague manifests. There is a justifiable concern among the scientific community that social isolation in 2020 may have hurt us more than helped us, by diminishing our herd immunity to other communicable diseases. I'm ready to get back out there and lick some damn doorknobs and hug randos at church, folks.4 points

To tell the truth, I haven't yet decided whether I will take a vaccine. What I have never liked, all the way back to grade school, is someone telling me I am going to do something.4 points

You lost me there, guy. I have absolutely ZERO responsibility to protect neither you nor anyone else. It is everyone's responsibility to look after their selves. I took the vaccine because, (with a significant background of education in medical science), the risk analysis showed me that it was in my best interest to do so. If someone wants to come on here and state they they won't take the vaccine for whatever reason, (justified or unjustified), that's their choice as well as they have no responsibility to take care of others either. If someone chooses to take the vaccine for whatever reason, (justified or unjustified), then that's their choice for the same reason. What I have a problem with is people coming on here fear-mongering by spreading unsubstantiated claims or citing so-called "studies" that are anything but scientific.4 points

After my Grandfather passed a couple of years ago I got a photo album with about 60 pictures that he took or are of him from his time in Korea. Here's a sampling: I think this is at Bragg but I'm not positive, if anyone does know please say. (ok ok that last one isn't vintage, but it's a photo of a vintage gun photo right...)4 points

TGO has unfortunately, from time to time, been visited by those who lack morals and ethics and would like to take advantage of the good graces and trusting nature of our fine members. This activity almost always seems to increase when social conditions are turbulent, especially if the turbulence is centered around the ability to find and buy guns or ammo. Lately we have had to boot a few people who were exhibiting suspicious behavior. We want you to be aware of this fact and to be sure to check a person's status on TGO before you commit to doing business with them as either the seller or the buyer. This is especially true if the other person encourages you to take communication with them "off the forum" and to email or some sort of instant messaging service. Before you buy or sell: Look to see whether they have have an active account or if they've been banned since you started talking to them. If you are going to meet to conduct business, do it during daylight hours and in a heavily trafficked, very public, neutral meeting place. Don't invite people to your home. Don't agree to meet people at theirs. MOST police and sheriff's stations have space at their parking lot where you can meet for selling and buying with strangers. Other good places are parking lots of busy business and in sight of their security cameras. Trust your gut instincts whether just when communicating online or meeting in person. If something feels "off" or "weird" - trust your gut. Feel free to involve me, @MacGyver, @Chucktshoes or one of the other moderators in a private conversation with the other party, or just contact us off to the side if you have concerns. Some of the suspicious activity that we've seen includes: People answering a Want To Buy ad claiming to have what you want, or that they know a friend or family member who does, and offering to broker an exchange between you and them. When it is fraudulent, this sort of thing often quickly becomes ridiculously complex and harder than it should be to do a simple transaction. Your warning senses should start tingling. We insist that people never list an item for sale for a friend on TGO for a reason. First Person is simpler, easier and often safer. People asking if you will ship a gun to them out of state or if you require proof of residency. Shipping a gun out of state always requires that you send it to an FFL in that state. An in-person buyer has to be a resident of your state. Again, heed your warning senses. People asking you to send money to them via PayPal "Friends and Family". Remember, first of all PayPal doesn't allow you to pay for guns and certain other things with their service. If you do and you get hosed on a deal, you may have no protection with PayPal. Second, sending money via Friends and Family saves the recipient a measly 3% charge but it also means you get zero protection via PayPal if the other person hoses you. Strangers insisting that they meet you after dark, or at a remote location, or at your house or theirs. This is a big NO. Don't do this. People asking if they can send a friend to pick up a gun from you instead of meeting you themselves. This is also a big NO. It can quickly become an illegal "straw purchase". Again, trust your gut instincts. You have them for a reason. It's safer to heed them and risk offending a person than it is to ignore them and end up the victim of a scam or worse. And always, always contact me, @MacGyver, @Chucktshoes or another moderator if you are concerned and just want a second opinion. We're glad to help. Stay safe out there!4 points

We have noticed an uptick in scammer activity as of late. Please read the below linked post and flag any sort of suspicious activity you may run across. Thanks! https://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/118939-scammers-a-word-on-those-who-try-to-exploit-our-community-please-read/3 points

Yeah this is kinda BS. No one dismissed his decision or argued against him; in fact, many who don’t appear to be fans of the vaccine offered him encouragement and support. The thread didn’t get sideways until people like you started arguing for more government mandates.3 points

https://apnews.com/article/germany-suspends-astrazeneca-vaccine-blood-clotting-0ab2c4fe13370c96c873e896387eb92f "BERLIN (AP) — March 15th, 2021: A cascading number of European countries — including Germany, France, Italy and Spain — suspended use of AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine Monday over reports of dangerous blood clots in some recipients, though the company and international regulators say there is no evidence the shot is to blame." My take-away from this: The AstraZeneca vaccine is not approved for use in the US yet. Might never be. There have been deaths recorded with suspicious proximity to other COVID-19 vaccines being administered here in the US. I've not yet seen whether blood clotting might have been a factor in the US deaths. No one should feel pressured to take or not take the vaccine. It's a personal decision. Consider all of the information available, include factors which affect your risk level into your calculus, and go from there. If you prefer to make decisions in a vacuum or if your opinion is easily buffeted for or against this or any other subject, the Internet is not a good place for you to spend your time.3 points

I could not disagree more. If no one had guns, no one would be shot. If no one was allowed to drive a car, there’d be no auto accident deaths. I could go on and on. Some of us prefer freedom.3 points

I got a laugh out of the fact that S&W has been heavily promoting that they were going to unveil a new gun at 8 p.m. Eastern on March 15...and then Ruger announces the Max-9 several hours earlier, without previous notice. More choices are a good thing. Cheers, Whisper3 points

Yes, there is a contingent of folks who won't wear a mask, won't vaccinate and won't respect the rights of others (most of us) who do. That's not freedom of choice - it is antisocial behavior. If you choose not to participate with the rest of society during a health care crisis then the consequences are that you may be excluded from certain things - like large gatherings or crowded places. At least until everyone else has done the hard work for you and reduced transmission rates.3 points

It will be like the one that ended terribly with the officer screaming as he was killed by the crazy ass Vietnam vet (no offense intended fellow crazy vets). By this I mean the officer... a training officer I have read, failed to keep her out of her purse or car. I do appreciate that he maintained his composure. He stayed patient. He did not get physical at the first sign of resistance. I am very sorry he was shot but overjoyed that he has lived. The woman involved did die so continuing to shoot* her was unnecessary and thankfully she did not attempt to run him over.3 points

Just acquired a Springfield TRP Operator today. Been wanting a TRP for a long time. Still not sure about the rail and bull (ish) barrel with full length guide rod. Figured out real quick that I REALLY like the aggressive front strap checkering that I’ve heard folks complain about. Just wondering who’s had experience with these. Figured I’d try it a while and see if it’s right for me. This is a picture I found on the web. Can’t seem to get my actual picture to upload. Says it exceeds the limit.2 points

I got second dose of the Pfizer a week ago. One more week for it to reach full moxie, and I'll rejoin the world to a greater extent. Lots of things to catch up on needing personal contact, couple doctors, dentist, Comcast, and perhaps most of all - A HAIRCUT! Assuming my old barber who was taking no precautions at all last time I was there long ago is still kicking. I don't care how cool man buns are, I'm over it. I must say, I might continue the curb side pickup thing with Kroger though, even when/if Covid is no longer a factor if they are still offering it. Done that twice, and it's aces. Gonna try it with Sam's too. - OS2 points

Speaking of total BS, no one (at all) argued for mandates, but rather, suggested that folks who make the choice to not be vaccinated (or wear masks) ought to own up to their own decisions and not intermingle with those who do. At least, until enough of the population has immunity, which may be in a few months. It should not be too hard to expect folks to endure the consequence of their choices. Everyone has to make some sacrifice during public crises. If you don't want to be burdened with a mask, or take the slight risk of vaccination, then simply isolate yourself from others and the public who don't want to endure the risk from you and have taken the requisite action that is supported by most of the population. You do have choice but "freedom" does not mean you are free from the effects of your decision. In the meantime, the rest of us will do our part in reducing transmission and helping to put everyone back on track.2 points
-
Finally, I'd Like to give big props to @hipower who started this thread to share his personal journey. It takes strength to share this decision with folks he knew would respond negatively. It is quite the pity that others feel inclined to dismiss this very personal decision and argue incessantly against vaccination or extol that their rights are being infringed. This is a disservice to everyone here and very selfish to hijack such a thread to turn it into an anti-vax vehicle If you want to start a thread about your conspiracies with the Vaccination, then do so. In the meantime, you should consider that perhaps your comments in this thread may be discouraging to others, and quite frankly, that is unconscionable.2 points

COVID-19 is a transmissible disease that affects the health of people around you - FACT. People obey social distancing, mask mandates and vaccination protocols because they don't want to spread or become infected with the disease.2 points
-
You could, but health experts think there is not much need. Why? Because there are flu Vaccines - lol! Getting back to the driving analogy and societal convention: why don't you express your 'Freedom' and start driving in the left-hand lanes?2 points
-
Folks are free to do what they want as long as it doesn't interfere with the rights (and certainly the health!) of others. However, they need to accept the consequence of their choices, which in this case, means limiting contact and respecting the rights of the majority who made the informed choice to protect themselves and others. Don't worry, other people will make the commitment to take care of the problem for you. It will just take longer and more folks than necessary will become sick. It seems that there are some folks who just don't care about anyone but their selfish selves. I have to wonder why these folks even want to participate in society with others. Your "examples" have no real relation to the problem of the pandemic, however, legally, you can't come into a crowd and shoot guns; you can't drive your car across my property, etc. There are absolutely no absolutes with freedom or anything else.2 points
-
Well there is always injecting disinfectant as suggested by the biggest idiot of them all. I think I will stick with the Covid-19 vaccine.2 points
-
I could see how it could be viewed that way. If you don't want to get the vaccine, don't get it. I don't think you should be forced. Here is another example of irony I've been chewing on. The same people who in the past said that a business should have the right to make their own decisions(think the bakery/gay couple case), will completely disregard a stores sign on the front door requiring them to wear a mask. I see people ignore those signs constantly. There was an Asian restaurant in Texas that decided to continue their mask mandate and people were FURIOUS. They acted as though they had a right to eat there. People spray painted "Kung Flu" and "Hope you Die" on their windows. Who supports freedom to choose in that scenario?2 points
-
There are certainly people, like yourself, for whom the vaccine makes a lot more sense. And I'll add... that if a person is out of the "child siring" or "child bearing" games, then there is probably even less risk. Here's an aspect of this to think about, though: You may feel that you have nothing to lose but there are people who will feel a loss if you succumb to any of those conditions. At the very least, we here on TGO would miss your contributions to the ongoing dialogue and the experiences that you can share with us. I don't want anyone rushing off into oblivion. Please don't misread my words or intent.2 points
-
Well yes actually. I know we have a few doctors here and at least one nurse. But my point was that he claimed we should all shut up unless we are a doctor, then he proceeded to tell us how the vaccine isn't really a vaccine. So I'm curious to know if he is a doctor or just another guy on the internet.2 points

If I had been given the choice I would have chosen the J&J vaccine. I may not be as effective as the mRNA vaccines, but it's hard to argue with ZERO deaths and ZERO severe cases of COVID if it doesn't prevent you from getting it. The adenovirus technology has been around for decades, but mRNA has been around a while too, and it's based on decades of research.1 point

You ought not misframe matters and make false accusations. I have not seen anyone disparaging anyone else, in this thread. However, the mis(dis) information is not helpful to those who may be having a difficult time making the right decision for themselves. My point is simple: You make your bed then accept personal responsibility and lie in it.1 point

I can't address how carefully Oswald's rifle was handled by police officers and other local and federal authorities before the rifle was tested, and who might or might not have tinkered with the scope or its mounts. But I've stood in the window of the book depository right next to the window where Oswald took the shot (you can't stand in the actual window now because it's blocked off by a plexiglass barrier). And, looking down into the street and wondering if, shooting from a rest, I could hit a man-sized target less than 90 yards away and moving almost directly away from me at a slow speed (11.2 mph), I feel confident I could. And I'm only a competent rifle shot. A good while back one of the TV networks hired a guy to fire a simulation of the Kennedy assassination to see if he could make the hits. He did. At this point none of the people who want to believe conspiracies will be convinced there wasn't one, and none of the people who want to believe the official report will be convinced it is inaccurate in its main conclusions. We're never going to know any more than we do now. Probably time to move on. Cheers, Whisper1 point

I don't disagree with the inherent irony of that situation, but you're basically complaining about a person's freedom to choose.1 point

Agreed. If people would be as determined to study for and pass the extremely simple Technician class exam as they are to make CB and GMRS work over long distances, they'd end up with a far better solution. Maybe we could just get some TGO study groups going.1 point

Brownells bought Gamaliel several years ago, I believe 4 or 5 years ago. The first couple of years they let Gamaliel run it as they where, including a catalog and online sales. Then Brownells shut down the catalog and online sales, and the amount of inventory in the showroom was reduced. Between Gamaliel and The Reloaders Bench they are where I have bought my powder and primers for the last 25 years.1 point

Physical fitness is important, but I'm not convinced it mattered here. I am easily 100 pounds lighter than this officer and I can run five or six miles without much too fuss, but I don't assume I would be able to jump right back up after being shot. Mindset/survival instinct certainly plays a role and I don't know the officer's mindset or training, but I think we are jumping the gun assuming that his was lacking.1 point

True, honestly I didn’t watch the video. I’m just tired of everyone second guessing our cops without knowing what the law actually states.1 point

Well technically since she was retreating and no longer shooting at the officer then he can’t just shoot her. That’s what all the stupid cop show gets wrong. You can chase them but unless they are actively aggressive and armed/firing then ya just can’t put them down even if they deserve it.1 point
