  2. I got my 2nd shot of Moderna this morning. Several hours later and not even a sore shoulder like I had with the first shot.

  3. I also go to TN Oncology since being diagnosed with colon cancer and some lesions on my Liver. I've had six chemo treatments so far(once every other week, so twice a month.) I'm going tomorrow to get my first Covid-19 shot, my Dr. told me also go get it, so I am. Hope your doing well, take care.

  4. I did a thing last week. Believe it or not, I haven't been able to make it to the range yet. Which is just as well as I decided to switch optics and put a closed-emitter Holosun HE509T on it instead. Thankfully I ordered both the mounting plate for the 509T as well as the RMR-footprint plate from C&H Precision Weapons a week or two before I had ordered the gun. Now I am just waiting on the 509T to arrive. No sense getting one red dot sighted in when I'm going to switch to another! Wasting ammo like that is 2019 type of thinking; not 2020 thinking where you begin to consider whether you should reclaim your bullets and smash them back into shape as best you can after you shoot them at things.

  6. I won't debate the facts surrounding this topic as there is quite a bit of mis/dis/mythinformation out there, and frankly, let's be honest, anyone here who ISN'T a doctor, should just STFU? Beating each other over the head with our preferred version of the truth will not convince anyone to change their opinion. Trust me, I've tried, no amount of truth or facts will matter. For me, its all very simple, and requires no expert opinion or medical knowledge. I could not have said it any more succinctly than Vox Day: If you wouldn't have a glowing target tattooed on your forehead, you probably shouldn't submit to genetic therapy by people who openly talk about their desire to reduce the human population.

  12. Well. That title covers a lot of territory doesn't it? Had 2 scheduled checkups and blood draws today. My GP and my Oncologist. I talked with both about the Covid Vaccines and my feelings and health issues relating to whether or not to take it. Interesting conversations from both. Especially the gentleman who actually drew the blood. We covered about everything from the source, the intent, and the possible outcomes of this pandemic. Even got into some of the religion side...Revelation and Mark of the Beast territory. But the core of all this is that my Oncologist's comments were this..."Do it. Do it Now!" You are at major risk. Walking time bomb. Just waiting to be infected. Really said that. Well, it seemed that TnOncology was vaccinating all their patients. And since I was in one office, a call was made and I was quite literally immediately shoved out the door and sent to the one where there were some shots still available. So...in spite of my comments here previously; I received the 1st dose of the Moderna Vaccine today. I do feel rather much a hypocrite right now. But it's done. We shall see what happens.

  13. I picked this one up right before Christmas and it quickly became my EDC. The action was really stiff to begin with, but loosening the pivot screw slightly and then a little use allowed it to loosen up nicely. It now flicks open smartly with just the nudge of the thumb. I put a 50 degree-inclusive (25* per side) edge on it and took it out to a mirror finish with my KME sharpener. That Bohler M390 steel is just fantastic. It's held the edge incredibly well and has even retained most of the mirror polish I put on it, despite regular use cutting apart boxes and slicing open packing materials. It'll still shave the hair off of my arm without any difficulty. The natural canvas Micarta scales are an interesting touch in the sense that they pick up the oils from your hands and slowly gain a "patina" because of it. But, wipe them down with a bit of non-chlorinated brake cleaner and they go right back to their natural appearance and you start all over again. The revised Titanium frame lock on this new Decade model addresses the weak lock the HEST had in its initial production 10-years ago. If you have stayed away from them because of that, I wouldn't worry anymore. I've tested it by firmly grasping it from the sides only, hand and fingers clear of the path of the blade, and pushed hard against the spine of the blade and against the lock, and it didn't budge a bit. I'd have had to use additional mechanical leverage to push any harder, and that would have been well beyond the force I could exert on it otherwise. I suspect it would hold up until the scale ruptured.

  14. In a nutshell, as I understand it, there just isn't enough data/research to definitively say. It seems that the vaccine may or may not prevent "catching" the disease at all. Much like influenza, seems to depend on a variety of factors, the most variable of which might be the individual himself. In the case of flu, the yearly vaccine almost certainly will mitigate the effects of an infection. The big difference in the Covid vaccine is that it seems to be mitigated significantly more effectively than with the flu vaccine. Certainly, if a vaccinated person catches Covid it seem likely that they can indeed also transmit it. However, the degree to which they can also seems to be lower, as total viral load has been shown to be a significant factor in transmission. In that regard, it's beneficial to the population at large as it does indeed prevent spread to a larger degree than a non-vaccinated person having it. But again, at this point, precisely definitive statements are simply not rock solid. It's like the 3ft, 6ft, one mile debate. At what point can a sneeze or cough not reach you with enough viral load to pass it along? IF Covid had only the same infection potential as most varieties of the flu we've seen so far, this wouldn't have been nearly the big whup it has been. But it's definitely been shown to be quite a bit more transmissible, so like always, everything helps. There's still so much to be learned about it. The issue of "long haulers" is especially vexing. And I hope there's still not another shoe to drop down the road with all the younger folks who have had it. - OS

  18. I'll throw a monkey in your wrench... or wrench at your monkey... or a wrench in the works? Hell, I don't know which it is. This time change is sucking the intelligence out of me. But I digress. A colleague at work who is younger than me by a couple of years and I'd say arguably in fitter condition than me took the Johnson & Johnson shot last Friday afternoon. He was laid up in bed in miserable as hell condition for the 24 hour period covering Saturday into Sunday. Fever, chills, aches, pains. It finally abated for him on Sunday. His interpretation of what he experienced is that it was his body's immune system kicking into hyperdrive to produce antibodies to fight COVID-19. Maybe? I know that I've had worse cases of influenza than what I experienced with COVID-19, but COVID-19 was spectacularly miserable in and of its own right. I am not rushing toward the vaccine and I've only got so much ammo, so if you early birds start turning into zombies just be aware that I plan to get creative with how I dispatch you in order to save bullets for creatures whose brains haven't turned to tapioca pudding.

  28. Not a problem if non-vaccinated isolate themselves and thus put in the effort to reduce transmission. Therefore, don't complain if there are restrictions (no sports events; no planes; no cruise ships, etc) placed on those who made such a choice. I'm sure we can all agree that folks need to accept the consequences of their choices.

  30. Hey all, I am not an anti-vaxxer. I totally understand that people with underlying issues and those that are told by their doctor that they really need it, I think that is great. But first of all getting the 2 covid-19 shots won't keep you from getting it again, or giving it to me. So I may have missed something, what good is it?? The biggest issue I have is that Fauci and the government, in case you all don't know Fauci is the highest paid person in our government. If the gubbermint mandates that everyone gets a shot, I say that sounds a whole lot like Nazi Germany or U.S.S.R. . Especially when the government is trying to pass laws like the equaility act? I am not a law breaker, had a couple of speeding tickets, never arrested or cuffed and don't plan on it. However I am NOT going to take a shot that a government says I have to. I certainly hope the Chinese flu goes back to China, but since it is very similar to the common cold, I highly doubt it. It is here to stay and we just have to live with it. Sorry mods, move this if you feel it is too political.

  31. I am Glad you got your first shot. this virus is not something to take lightly. Some get it with minimal symptoms some get it and die. My Wife (ICU Nurse) thinks it is very DNA related as to the effects one has. Perfectly healthy 52yo runner gets it and dies. 88yo female gets it and walks out of the hospital. If you are immuno compromised or diabetic you Need to get the shot

  33. Installed, big shout out to @joe4vol for use of his sight pusher in a parking lot on Bearden Hill. Hope you and Mrs enjoyed a nice meal on your trip to Knoxville. It is always to meet another TGOer in person! My fears of 'ridiculously tight' were unfounded, once @joe4vol fitted the slide in place, a few quick turns on my part, and out it came. I think I will like it, I already have a good habit, from constant carping, I mean coaching from @Cruel Hand Luke of bringing my pistol up into my eyeline; a few practice presentations and voila, there's the dot, every time. Oordered a holster, need to sight it in and decide when custom fabricated suppressor height sights will be added.

  35. Interesting how some folks like to take positions on things no one ever said - lol. The vaccinated can still carry COVID, and but with the vaccinated, critically, the transmission rate is dramatically reduced . Indeed, that is the whole point of stopping the communicable diseases. https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-021-00450-z https://theconversation.com/can-vaccinated-people-still-spread-the-coronavirus-155095 Nothing is perfect, but we need to do our best to stop the spreading, not just prevent the infected from becoming extremely sick or dying. And to the point: if people don't want to be vaccinated, fine, but that choice should not supplant, interfere, or enhance risk to the rest of society which made a different decision to be vaccinated, overwhelmingly. Honestly, we all want this to be over as quickly and painlessly, but it takes effort from everyone.
    1 point
  36. As it should be. You have the right to make decisions for yourself, but not for everyone else. If you don't want to be vaccinated, fine, but please consider that others don't want to be exposed and risk their lives to the ramifications of your choice. Moreover, it's a public issue that impacts the health care system for the rest of us, which is a major problem We've pretty much defeated the Plague, Smallpox and Polio through vaccination and precaution. This should be no different.

  39. Of the two, I'd go with the SA .357. Much more versatile with ammo selection and just better suited to the task asked for. As for myself, I much prefer a DA revolver in either .44 Special or .45 Colt. I also agree that an encounter with a bear is extremely unlikely. More likely critter encounters would be feral hogs or wild dogs. Even that is pretty slim. The real threat is from bad people.

Under the new rules that the House adopted a few weeks ago all references to sexual identity are banned! https://www.mcclatchydc.com/news/politics-government/article248264460.html The bill refers to transfers between aunts & uncles to nephews & nieces!
