Wonderful pistols! My favorite 9mm. Browning discontinued the Hi-Power a couple of years ago. Since then prices have gone up considerably. An average condition pistol now costs in the $1200+ range. You can probably find a .40 cal a good bit cheaper as they aren't near as popular. Honestly, I don't like the .40 and wouldn't have one. Along with the 1911, the Hi-Power is one of the most copied pistols in the world. There are lots of excellent clones out there. FEG, , FM, Kareem, Israel, plus several more I can't remember have made them. I've never heard of a truly bad clone. Most of the real differences are in the finish. You can find these at much better prices, but even they are going up. As for the Browning versions: The pre-war and WW II pistols are extremely sought after by collectors and very expensive. Likewise the "T" series serial numbers are collectible and pricey. For a real Browning, your best bet will be the MK III version which was the last. I have one of these and love it. I currently have 3 versions of the Hi-Power and love them all. Top: Browning MK III I bought new in the early 90s. Middle: FEG clone. Just as good as the real thing. Just not quite so pretty. Bottom: FM Detective Model. This one is the Commander sized version of the HP with a 1" shorter slide and barrel. These are scarce and prices are rising dramatically. I just lucked into this one.5 points

I've stayed out of this because I'm pretty much a non-tactical kinda guy. I can defend myself if need be, but I'm just not into all the bells and whistles. I like optics on handguns for target shooting. I have both scopes and red dots on several handguns. For slow, precise fire, I love 'em. Now I do have a slightly older Burris RSR type sight on the Browning Buckmark that hosts my suppressor. Hey. its great for accuracy WHEN I can find the dot. Honestly, that's the whole problem with this set up. Trying to find that damned dot. Yeah, I know practice, practice, practice. But ya know what? Not all of us are super operators willing to spend hours and hours running drills for what "might" happen. I got other things in my life to do. Where these sights truly shine is at longer distances. But let's be real. Odds are that if you ever are involved in a self defense shooting its most likely to happen at point shooting ranges where sights will be unimportant. And then, whatever happened to the wisdom that if the BG is that far away, your best course is to break contact and haul ass? Also bear in mind that we live in a world where people cut the spur off of a hammer or get melt down jobs in order to streamline their EDC and prevent the possibility of snagging. And yet you want to stick a big old block on top of your gun? Really? JMHO: these sights are just the latest, hottest, high tech toy. Everybody wants to be the cool kid with all the bling. Edit to add: An old saying that I truly believe in: Never trust your life to anything that requires a battery.2 points

^^^^This^^^^ Hoarders, panic buyers, opportunists resellers make a run on ammo. Ammo manufacturers can't fill orders fast enough. The primers they can make at max capacity are going directly to their highest volume, highest margin products. The small overages or primer order fulfilment they can get out the door are snapped up instantly by more hoarders, panic buyers, and opportunist resellers. Those of us that only bought one box (1000 pcs) at a time for the type we needed are left in the lurch. Primers, Powder, Cases, and Projectiles are still being made by manufacturers. It is just going to ammo production first. Some of that is going to DPAS rated contract sales (military contracted orders take rated priority over commercial orders). Some of that is going to existing big commercial contract holders. What is left is trickling out to the common folk and small retailers.2 points

Springfield isn't the issue here, it is Holosun. The Hellcat uses the standard JP Enterprise / Shield RMSc footprint. The Holosun 407/507K uses a modified version of this footprint, and is not drilled for the two rear lugs. The slide modification is to completely remove the two rear lugs and slightly file down the front two. Quoted from another site: "Because these are smaller than 407C, 507C, and 508T, Holosun had to use a different footprint. The sights mentioned use a Trijicon RMR platform whereas the new ‘K’ models have a modification of the Shield footprint instead. The two holes in the back are missing on the 407/507K footprint, and the recesses in the front are shallower than on Shield RMS and SMS sights. For this reason, some pistols, such as Hellcat and Walther PPS, will need to be modified for these two red dot sights to fit. Namely, the rear indexing lugs have to be removed and the front indexing lugs have to be shortened in length. Once the pistols are modified, you can still mount any of the red dot sights that have a Shield footprint."2 points

I still have an idea that the supply chain has a broken/bent link in it. I think between the distributor and retail store there are people able to get the primers and sell them for their own profits be it on GB or elsewhere. Otherwise where do all the brand new primers come from on GB. I can see folks selling off some old stock they have, but seems suspicious to me. No tinfoil hat needed btw.2 points

I had an experience with a 22 mag rifle on a dog pack that were killing our calves, several years ago. I shot a Red Bone hound(110 lbs) and the 22 MAG gutted him. The R B was charging me, in the field, and I shot, aiming for his head, however as he ran his head was bobbing, and I hit him in the middle of his chest. It blew his insides out his butt, and he looked like a stovepipe after being shot. Don't mean to be insensitive, but that pack of dogs cost us thousands that year until we thinned them out. There were 7 "city" dogs, (Rented farm was in the city limits), in the pack. We eliminated 5 of them, German Shephard, Doberman, and Red Bone hound, along with 2 smaller house dogs. Never had another calf maimed or killed after that incident. This was back in the early 80's. A calf with its ears or tailed maimed would sell for half what a normal calf would bring plus they outright killed 12 calves. The 22 mag rifle really surprised me how much power it has over a regular 22 LR. I diffidently encourage the 22 mag for your job, but don't know how effective it will be out of a shorter brl revolver. Sure worked great, out of a rifle, for me. I believe that hound would have attacked me, judging from the way he was charging me in that open field. Was glad I dropped him about 30 yards in front of me. The property owner and my father in law was on the opposite side of the pack from me.2 points

Well the simple fact that they had a reloading shop going at one point is a point of frustration for me. There should be enough brass and lead lying around (even if they have to resort to battery lead from all the cars) to keep them in bullets for a while. Standardize on a caliber that can use black powder and make it from scratch. Even everyone with only a revolver is better than nothing. I mean Eugene can make cyanide capsules from peach pits, but can't make primers or BP? If loading cases are too hard, at least make some smoke poles. Darrel running around with a 6 shot BP revolver would sit well with fans. Plus which is harder, making arrows from scratch or loading bullets??? Plus, with a sniper rifle, as the show projected his rifle to be (looked more like and AR to me with the quick glance, but internet says it is a Tikka T3x Tac A1), you don't need thousands of rounds. 50 rounds could make a big difference. I too long ago had to abandon real survival mentality when applied to the show. It just ruins the show, but dang it it is hard. Just like when long ago they got the blacksmith going and he was casting trident heads for spears? Why the hell a trident taking much more metal and not a single point. Also why cast it? Just find some plate steel and have some less skilled people hacksaw out and sharpen points. With all the cars lying around metal is not in short supply. Maybe it would be easier for the blacksmith to punch the holes in the points than drilling them, but leave him to more complicated tasks. Heck it it was me, I would just find one of the decorative fences that have spear looking vertical poles and cut them apart. Instant spears until you can find some time to make better. The fence leads to another comment. I see that they are struggling to keep people fed a lot of time, but every search team you send out should be bringing things like hardware (hinges, screws, nails), tools, solar panels, batteries, and weapons. It is not like nuclear bomb destroyed it all. Deconstructing existing structures would provide plenty of materials. Even if people cleaned out all the Home Depot and Lowes, that stuff went somewhere that it is still probably sitting. Just like all the military and police armories. You can't tell me with the sudden drop in living population that EVERY ONE of those was cleared out even 10 years after. If you could do so safely, that world is a scrounger's paradise. You might just have to think outside the box. Oh well I could go on and on. lol2 points

I have a fund raising letter from the TSA laying on the table just waiting for me to send a check. Considering the fact I am a retired LEO I was planning on doing so. This just saved me some money. I will do something direct to benefit my locals. Through my career I found that the higher one is in the command chain of Law Enforcement, the more they tend to follow the direction of the political winds. I would venture to say that a large number, if not the majority, of the sheriffs do not personally support this position. Especially if they came up through the ranks. However, the those making money sitting in the offices of the TSA rubbing elbows with politicians tend to get dirty elbows.2 points

As soon as I get a big layaway paid off I'm going to get a Vortex Venom installed on my Masada. I decided on the Vortex for couple of reasons. One I like Vortex and two it's not as expensive as some others, that way if I dont care for ir I'm only out a couple hundred bucks.1 point

I've had several, and the FN's I've had were absolutely beautiful. So beautiful I felt guilty just handling them. They are still on this board... somewhere ! I started my gun journey with an FEG PJK-9hp. I let that one get away because I didn't know what it was. Found another one years ago and it's a keeper. Love these things. It's a shooter!1 point

Heres my HP lineage pistols. A FEG made FN stamped impostor that I put a real FN barrel in (shoots better). The DA Arcus has HP DNA buried in a bit more steel covering. If I find some time, I may whittle a bunch of that metal off to mimic what Gf54 has there in that Detective. Finally bought a pair of Mec Gar 15 round mags for these pop guns. You need 2 men and a boy to fit #15 in em but they will run them out with no problem. Back when I first got my carry permit at the legal 21 age, I bought a Browning HP from Numrich Arms where I worked across the street at Auto Ordnance. Carried that thing everywhere I went.... One night I was watching Cher dancing around on TV while I was leading her with my HP sights, Just as she stopped moving around, I dropped the hammer on her, thinking i had ejected the round earlier......Bang goes the HP and Cher was gone! Those 9mm FMJ rounds dont go threw an old style TV, I can tell you that for sure! That was one of 3 times a round got away from me back when I was young, dump and full of.... you know... LOL. Sold that HP to a buddy of mine when he wanted it for the PD job he had. The Feg was not polished very well when it was parkerized but it satisfies the HP desires as far as shooting holes in things.....1 point

I had one that was stolen in a breakin back in 07. It was one of my most favorite pistols. It was a MkIII. TIsas is making a blue version and a stainless steel version. Both are great looking pistols. I’ve thought of trying to find one.1 point

This is a “bucket list” pistol. I have always wanted one. Nice ones are not cheap.1 point

You are speaking my language good sir. I have two. One is a 1990 produced MK III that I had refinished and fancied up. The other is a Charles Daly Hi Power (only US rollmarked HP) that I bought here on TGO. The CDHP is essentially a US built clone made with Hungarian FEG parts. That one has been cerakoted black and is currently at the Smith to be milled to accept a Holosun 507k. I love the HiPower. It’s the 1911, perfected. I’m not at home, and I can’t find my pictures of them, though I know I’ve posted some here before. Sorry I don’t have any pics of them for you.1 point

Size and quality. I went with the Samsung Pro Endurance because one of the dash cam review guru's recommended it. It looks like the price has come down a lot since I bought it. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07B984HJ5/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_R1ADPDN6G9Q88FN72M33?_encoding=UTF8&psc=11 point

I had a Savage 1907 for a while. Its a really super cool pistol. However, mine had such a horrible trigger that I couldn't hit squat with it. OTOH, If you weren't so far away, I'd be all over that Sauer 1913.1 point

No it's not going away unless the Chinese makes a more potent disease. Mighty suspicious to me that you rarely hear of the flu anymore? And since this chicom flu is going to be just like the common cold, there is no cure. The shot that people are taking won't cure this virus.1 point

Yes i noticed that. I decided several seasons ago that it was obvious that anyone with any type of technical skill, such as the ability to reload, the ability to refine gasoline, etc., does not survive in a zombie apocalypse ...1 point

Yep, they left that rifle behind. The only thing I can figure is that the sniper abandoned it and they left it because there was no more ammo. Ammunition on that show is as scarce as it is for us now.1 point

I have shot both(owned by friends), they were fine. Liked the Wrangler better and was thinking of buying one but decided to move upscale and bought a Single Six instead and love it, but would not spend the $$ for a SS to leave in the barn. If you plan on shooting coyotes the Heritage with WMR might be your best choice, the more powerful round would be useful.1 point

I haven’t. I’m really terrible about giving reviews of stuff. The quick and dirty is that I like it. I really like the sights on it. Very quick and intuitive. It’s a little snappier than the Sig P365, but honestly, I like the grip texture a bit better. The dual layer sound gimmicky, and maybe it is, but I find it grippy in the hand without being abrasive in the holster. I’ve put around 500ish rds through it with zero issues. Also, don’t buy Swampfox optics. Just have the slide’s recoil lugs milled to accept a trijicon or a Holosun.1 point

I had 2 at different times. last one with the extra mag cylinder. The 22's seem to be relatively reliable but watch out for too large cylinder to barrel gap. They can get ridiculous there with way too much cylinder blast if your gun is much past .005 especially with the mag. The one with the mag was pretty used and had a loose barrel. The zamak frames arn't really good in the durability department for a steady diet of magnums. I'v read others with the same issue.1 point

For me, the trick to get the dot to present reliably is to squeeze with the pinky a small amount. This forces the middle and ring finger to tighten up the grip a bit and point correctly. If I'm going to be off, it's invariably the barrel is high. So the pinky trick pulls the barrel downward. At short ranges, I don't even look for the dot and just point shoot instead. Middle ranges I use the 32 MOA circle on the Holosun and save the 2 MOA dot for long range/precision shots.1 point
-
Young eyes or old eyes, it takes a lot of dry fire practice to reliably get that red dot in your field of view on presentation. And, you've got to get that squared away before you consider moving to trusting it for EDC. But, what it actually highlights for most people is the training scars that they've acquired through years of maybe less than ideal practice. So, going through the dry fire process a lot will actually be working to correct some of those old scars with new, better ones. They're worth putting the time into. Watching your hits go reliably out from where you were comfortable before is pretty cool.1 point
-
I have several guns (pistols and long guns) with red dots but none are home defense. I have fun with them shooting targets but I'm much slower getting on target. It is fun hitting the more distant targets, I have them zered in so if the dot is on the target it hits it. For speed I like open sights. If you go forward practice a lot.1 point

The cool thing about the Heritage Rough Rider is you can get one with a 16" barrel.0 points
