I have a fund raising letter from the TSA laying on the table just waiting for me to send a check. Considering the fact I am a retired LEO I was planning on doing so. This just saved me some money. I will do something direct to benefit my locals. Through my career I found that the higher one is in the command chain of Law Enforcement, the more they tend to follow the direction of the political winds. I would venture to say that a large number, if not the majority, of the sheriffs do not personally support this position. Especially if they came up through the ranks. However, the those making money sitting in the offices of the TSA rubbing elbows with politicians tend to get dirty elbows.5 points

You should verify all of your gauges are to spec. And then they should be periodically checked with use. Trust, but verify! Magpul's Bevblock is a good little tool. I have one as well. But for high torque work, it does not come close to locking all of the parts together the way that the MURR does. The MURR also provides a lot more surface area of contact in addition to four positions. In the case of a stubborn barrel nut, Bev blocks have been known to break receivers. Unfortunately no one tool does everything and the more jobs we give a tool, the worse it does them all. I'm a proponent of having ALL the tools so I say get them all!3 points

As long as primers & powder are stored properly their shelf life is indefinite.3 points

I hope you're right, as I surely have Alleycat beat here. This stuff came to me as part of a big pile of reloading stuff that I traded for with a friend. The price on the magnum primer pack is $7.20. I grabbed a dozen primers at random and loaded them into cases then fired them off. All the SP pistol primers fired as-expected but a couple of the SPM primers failed to go pop. I'll likely load the magnums anyway for plinking, and just pull the bullets of any rounds that don't fire. Beside this can of W296 there was a larger (I think 4 pound) sealed can as well. The powder seems to be fine.2 points

A man after my own heart. I am still in search of the holy grail. Its great to have options and seeing improvements on AR specific tools. I just bought the VISM Receiver block to try out https://www.ncstar.com/optics-acc/tools/ar15-tools/vtaruvb-upper-receiver-block-for-ar-15 I got them for 308 and AR15. It seemed to offer retention at the charging handle channel, bottom of the receiver and its lugs. Best of all worlds. I knew it was Chinese made, but it seemed to have good reviews and good concept without having to worry about extension splines or pin shearing. I found the VISM tool is sloppy fitting, neither having any upper channel engagement, doing all the work at the detent pin lugs, which is not ideal. No improvement over the plastix revolution low end version. I would say anyone looking at it, they should pass. The URR is still best of breed in its price class for those that are not die hard clamshell guys. I think this is next up for me to try is the JP receiver block. Some may say its just the glorified version of sticking it between a couple 2x4's, but it engages the lug to prevent any rotation without the need to vise pressures that can crack the receiver. Only concern being finish marring. https://www.midwayusa.com/product/10070994771 point

The DPO is the 2021 series of the Staccato optics-ready line. They cut the price by $200 on them but they don't include the optics mounting plate and they no longer nitride the barrel. Both are available as options. You can buy the optics plate from Staccato or you can do like I do and go straight to Dawson Precision for it. It's the same price and Dawson tends to have them in stock since they manufacture them for Staccato.1 point

I don't support the "anti-vax" movement that has cropped up over the last decade, and I think that oftentimes it's both light on facts and shortsighted. But in light of our spotty history when it comes to medical ethics (a few examples below), I'm also not surprised that plenty of levelheaded folks are worried about getting a jab they don't completely understand. https://www.history.com/news/the-infamous-40-year-tuskegee-study https://www.britannica.com/event/Guatemala-syphilis-experiment https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lauretta_Bender#Experiments_and_therapies1 point

Out out nearly 30 nurses that that gave the shots with my wife, only 2 or 3 took the shot themselves. Not telling anyone what to do, just saying what happened.1 point

Sorry - one more thought... Look closely at the actual letter that the Tennessee Sheriffs' Association, Inc. submitted seeking to influence the activities of our elected state representatives. Was anyone else fascinated in particular by the first sentence of the second paragraph? Does that sentence seem to you like TSA, Inc. admitting that it has made a concerted effort to oppose legislation of this nature (i.e., to lobby against this legislation) for at least an entire year?1 point

I took the EZ out and run 40 rounds through it between rains. It was too muddy to carry all my gear out so I just fired it for reliability purposes. I had no problem with the grip safety. It protrudes enough that my skinny hand depresses it without any problems. The EZ fired all the rounds without any stoppages of any kind. I was using WWB 9MM RN practice ammo. I was shooting from a table rest, from 30 feet, off hand and the EZ seems to be hitting a little off center and to the left, but I will need to take sandbags out and use them before doing any sight adjustment. I really like the steel 8 round magazines as they have ears on the sides to aid in depressing the spring to load each round into the magazine. I found them to be great aids. I missed a couple shots on a 6" gong and a couple on the 8" gong. I also found I could pocket carry and draw the EZ, with ease, but I had no pocket holster and it printed. I must try a pocket holster. The pistol measures 7" long and 5" tall in the grip. When loaded it balances pretty good. The E Z has a good trigger. For the first outing I was well pleased. I will take it out again, soon after it dries a bit, and I have the time. Plan to run about 400 to 500 rounds to see if it is reliable enough to carry, and want to check the sights for accuracy.1 point

I could probably tell you about anything you want to know. I currently have barred rocks and some sex links. Both are good birds if you are wanting layers. You could also raise your own sex links if you get BR hens and a Rhode Island Red rooster, that would be a black sex link. Their offspring hens would have solid black heads, while the cockerels are born with white dots on their heads. Sex links do not breed true because they are hybrids, so if you are interested in sustaining your flock that isn't the way to do it. I'm not a fan of commercial hatcheries. I try to buy from local breeders. Anything bought commercially (TSC and others) was hatched and shipped and spent it's first couple of days in a box. I had rather my stock come from somewhere where the were hatched and placed into a brooder for those first couple of crucial days. I've been feeding Amish sourced feed supplemented with catfish food pellets (32% protein) with good results. I could write all day, if you have specific questions I'm happy to answer.1 point

I apologize if I came off like I was mad, I understand that it is better to have the Red Dot mounted on the Slide. I just traded for one of the new Staccato P DPO, do you know anything about those. I know they use a Plate from Dawson Precision, do you think that was a good choice, if I can sell my Detonics Combat Master I listed here I might be interested in your Staccato if you want to sell, just let me know sometime. I'll post some pics when I get the DPO in.1 point

Just in case anyone is interested, I was in our local pawn shop/ gun store and saw that they had some cases of ammo. They had 1000 round cases of wolf 7.62x39. It was steel cased, berdan primed, non corrosive. They also had 250 round cases of 12 ga. 00 buck. I don't know what the price is, they were too busy to wait just to ask but their number is 837-2274. (51 Pawn Shop) about 5 miles north of Millington.1 point

The ConCarry bills only remove the necessity to get a permit. They do not affect the permit system that already exists. The permit will still be there for those that wish to acquire one.1 point

I haven't found that to be the case but I've done literally thousands and thousands of draw and presentations with the dot on the various platforms that I own. Proprioception plays a huge role in being a fast and accurate shooter with any gun, but especially a handgun and double especially (is that a thing?) a handgun with a dot optic. Here's the thing about iron sights that people often fail to recognize when they make statements about them being faster to acquire than a red dot: Iron sights mask problems with presentation. Most people use them to "steer" the gun on target. Period. End of story. Watch other people shoot at the range. Video yourself or at least be very observant, honest and "in the moment". Do it from a draw or at least a low ready. I bet you'll notice that your eyes flick from the target to the front sight and then to the back sight as you rock the gun into a position level with the target. Your eyes may flick back and forth quickly between target, front sight and rear sight several times through the course of presenting it, lining it up, and pulling the trigger. It happens very fast and typically subconsciously, and it eats up "clock cycles" (milliseconds or maybe even a full second or two). A person who has honed their proprioception -- their ability to innately know where the ends of their extremities are during the full range of their motion -- with a gun in hand to be able to efficiently and accurately match hand motion to eye location can typically outrun a person who's brain is occupied with the task of steering the gun on target and then fine-tuning their alignment. Iron sights have three planes of focus: Target, Front Sight, Rear Sight. Dot optics have one plane of focus: Target People who are fast with irons in close distances are generally using a target-focused (single plane) approach because required accuracy at that distance is relevant to the task. They shift back to three planes of focus for better accuracy, especially at further distances. A dot shooter shouldn't do that and a good dot shooter won't. Their eyes should be focused crisply on the target and the dot simply appears on the target as they bring the gun to bear, using proprioception to get it there. It's the exact same aiming technique that we humans have been using since we picked up a sharp stick [spear] and threw it at another human or an animal. Spears don't come with iron sights. We look at the target, not at the spear, and we lob that sucker with accuracy. Sharp Stick, meet Red Dot. Anyway, about the whole red dot optic at night thing... it's literally a GLOWING illuminated projection inside of a small box. I see that a hell of a lot faster in the dark than I do a small Tritium lamp or three.1 point

Welcome to TGO. Think hard about being an absentee landlord from 2000 miles away. Plus the real estate taxes out there and the capital gains tax you will have to pay when you do sell if you don't take advantage of the breaks for just selling and buying a different primary residence. Might want to take advantage of the sellers bubble now since you will be buying into the bubble. You will love living in a free state.1 point

Considering the current craziness, that ain't bad at all. And he's located close to me. Too bad I don't have anything in 7.62X39. I have seen on other boards where people are getting tricky about selling ammo on otherwise non-gun friendly sites. Such as an ad for screwdrivers for sale. But the pictures show the screwdrivers sitting on top of boxes of ammo.1 point

Just picked up a new smoke pole for muzzleloader this year. Was in Jamestown the other day and seen they had the CVA Optima V2 LR. Hadn't seen the model with the veil camo and thumbhole stock so I had to have it. It comes with the KonusPro scope in 3-9X40, very good glass and eye relief for a budget scope. Picked up some 777 pellets, federal primers and some Traditions Smackdown 250gr bullets for sight in. I've always used the Hornady XTP but didn't have no more on hand but got some coming in the mail. So far very pleased with the gun. Here's the first 4 shots outta the gun at 75yds, it grouped those Traditions bullet's pretty good, under 1in at 75yds. All my other CVA guns like the Hornday XTP so I'm going to assume this one will also. But I've never tried the Traditions Smackdown Carnivores before so might give them a try this season.1 point

I wonder what it would take to get the IRS involved since it is obvious that according to the letter of the law, the TN Sheriff’s Association is engaged in disallowed activity. I got jokes today. The government never goes after its own for wrongdoing.0 points

I checked the website again today. I'm trying for the place that's only a couple of miles from me. Anyway, they had one spot open for tomorrow. I immediately filled out the web form and submitted it. Somebody beat me to it while I was typing. I'll keep trying, but unless I get lucky, it may be a while. In other news, Gov. Lee is highly pissed at Memphis. It seems that somebody screwed up big time and let 2400 doses go bad. A few weeks ago they let 500 doses expire. The state isn't taking over the job, but they are sending state health dept personal to "supervise". Of course Memphis and Shelby County governments are busy blaming each other. Welcome to Memphis, where government can break and anvil with a rubber hammer.0 points
