If Con Carry is passed, I have every intension of keeping my HCP, if the system is still in place. One of the big draws for me to get my HCP was the ability to carry outside of Tennessee, in states that I travel too. I must confess, that part of me would love to see National Recip passed, just to give the finger to New York, Cali and the other states of that ilk. However, I see this as much more dangerous to our rights in this State, so I do not support it.4 points

My great uncle, for whom I am named, was in the horse cavalry in the 20s-30s before WWII. He faked his age to join the Navy for WWI, then went to West Point, served in WWII and the Korean Conflict, was a career officer, and retired a full colonel.3 points

So my new AR-15 arrived (finally) after being lost in the FedEx package backlog from the winter storms. It is a left handed build with a Stag Arms upper and a PSA lower. Only iron sights at the moment. Trying to decide on a reddot or other optic. I can’t wait to get to the range.2 points

In state con carry has no reciprocity. As an example, Vermont, the original Con Carry state, has no permitting system. Citizens of Vermont have to acquire non-resident permits from other states to allow them to carry outside of Vermont. So while I absolutely desire a true Constitutional Carry bill to pass, I will keep my permit as I do require the ability to carry outside of TN.2 points

The revised Adamas series of knives from Benchmade are due to launch in March and the new 275GY-1 is probably the one knife on my radar that I can genuinely say I am excited about. The new Adamas series is going to use the absolutely stellar CruWear steel for their blades which will address the rusting issue some folks had with the D2 tool steel used previously.1 point

The Sheriff's Association is a 501 (c) 3 charity, (per its tax fillings, most recent 990s a(ttached) Section IV Question 4 is instructive, where they tell the IRS that they do not lobby. Their Mission Statement is: The purpose of the organization is to promote better and more effective law enforcement, maintain a high level of ethical conduct on the part of all Sheriffs and their deputies, provide a forum of constant exchange of knowledge and experience among all Sheriffs.” This is the factual listing by the Sheriff’s Association on their IRS forms and locked in. Nowhere does it list lobby the TN General Assembly in that filing. Yet, they file with the State of Tennessee, documents listing their paid lobbyist. (attached) Duties of the Sheriff per our TCA: 38-3-102. Duties of sheriff. (a) The sheriff is the principal conservator of the peace in the sheriff's county. It is the sheriff's duty to suppress all affrays, riots, routs, unlawful assemblies, insurrections, or other breaches of the peace, to do which the sheriff may summon to such sheriff's aid as many of the inhabitants of the county as such sheriff thinks proper. (b) It shall be the duty of the sheriffs, in their respective counties, by themselves or deputies, to patrol the roads of the county, to ferret out crimes, to secure evidence of crimes, and to apprehend and arrest criminals. I see nothing there that would indicate the legislature has given them power by law to make law, or to advocate under color of their official employment to deny any Constitutional Right, e.g. HB 0786 or HB 0018 which both deal with "Constitutional" or permitless carry by non criminal Tennessee Citizens before the General Assembly. Rather, I would assume that their letter (attached) to the House criminal justice sub-committee is exactly that (it has been offered on another thread, but i will include it here for reference as their attempt "under color of official employment" is just that by sending that letter and is pertinent to another TCA code: TCA 39-16-403. Official oppression. — (a) A public servant acting under color of office or employment commits an offense who: (1) Intentionally subjects another to mistreatment or to arrest, detention, stop, frisk, halt, search, seizure, dispossession, assessment or lien when the public servant knows the conduct is unlawful; or (2) Intentionally denies or impedes another in the exercise or enjoyment of any right, privilege, power or immunity, when the public servant knows the conduct is unlawful. (b) For purposes of this section, a public servant acts under color of office or employment if the public servant acts, or purports to act, in an official capacity or takes advantage of the actual or purported capacity. (c) An offense under this section is a Class E felony. (d) Charges for official oppression may be brought only by indictment, presentment or criminal information; provided, that nothing in this section shall deny a person from pursuing other criminal charges by affidavit of complaint. [Acts 1989, ch. 591, § 1; 1990, ch. 980, § 11.] The letter sent to the sub-committee is acting under color of official employment. In the light of an old Blue Grass song, "Muleskinner Blues" a line says, "if you don't like your job, set the water bucket down." If any Sheriff wants to do other than their job of upholding the law and instead wish to foster legislation, perhaps they should set the water bucket of Sheriff down and resign and run for the General Assembly, whose job IS to make law. Further, the testimony by the Association and the letter indicate that all 95 Sheriffs are in agreement with the ask for implied consent (Papers Please) which violates the Federal 4th Amendment and State 7th. I have personally spoken with 4 who were not polled, do not agree with the context of the letter and who support Constitutional Carry either open or concealed as well as of this writing 5 others who have sent notification via Citizens of their Counties that they were not consulted nor do they agree with the Association. The Sheriff's Oath: "I do solemnly swear that I will perform with fidelity the duties of the office to which I have been elected, and which I am about to assume. I do solemnly swear to support the constitutions of Tennessee and the United States and to faithfully perform the duties of the office of sheriff for County, Tennessee. I further swear that I have not promised or given, nor will I give any fee, gift, gratuity, or reward for this office or for aid in procuring this office; that I will not take any fee, gift, or bribe, or gratuity for returning any person as a juror or for making any false return of any process and that I will faithfully execute the office of sheriff to the best of my knowledge and ability, agreeably to law." indicates no duty to force their personal feelings or beliefs on the populace and simply charges them with supporting the Constitutions of the Union and State. Their charge by the legislature is simply stated in 38-3-102. Sheriff's Association Letter.pdf TN Sheriffs - lobbyists.pdf 2017 990.pdf1 point

I just got back from a three day hunt in Canyon Texas for Sandhill Cranes. I bought this hunt at our local chapters SCI banquet. This was my first time hunting cranes and it was a blast. They call sandhill cranes the flying ribeye of the sky. I had heard so much about how great they are to eat that I was worried that it would not live up to hype. Our outfitter grilled us some breasts one night and let me say that it does live up to the hype. If you did not know you were eating crane you would think it was steak. We also had some spectacular sunrises and sunsets. I used Diamond Wing Outfitters. They were great. Worked hard to make sure we had opportunities to kill cranes. The limit is three per day. We had four hunters in our group. The first day we saw thousands of cranes but only killed 3. The second day we got 9 but should have limited out. They are a tough bird to bring down unless you get a clean head shot. The third day we got our limit. One afternoon we also got some duck hunting in. All in all it was a great trip. https://www.diamondwingoutfitters.com1 point

Sorry - one more thought... Look closely at the actual letter that the Tennessee Sheriffs' Association, Inc. submitted seeking to influence the activities of our elected state representatives. Was anyone else fascinated in particular by the first sentence of the second paragraph? Does that sentence seem to you like TSA, Inc. admitting that it has made a concerted effort to oppose legislation of this nature (i.e., to lobby against this legislation) for at least an entire year?1 point

@Worriedman - Would it be possible for the TFA to complete an IRS Form 13909 (describing the activities of the Tennessee Sheriffs' Association, Inc. and raising the question of that organization's compliance with the Internal Revenue Code's restrictions on lobbying activities) and to send that completed form to the IRS office in Dallas as described in the link below? https://www.irs.gov/charities-non-profits/irs-complaint-process-tax-exempt-organizations If so, would it be possible for the TFA to "cc" the office of the Tennessee Attorney General on that communication to the IRS, in that office's oversight capacity regarding Tennessee charitable organizations? I ask these questions as a curious Tennessean, as a brand new TFA member, and as someone who honestly doesn't know if that is something the TFA is able to do within the confines of its bylaws, applicable state law, etc.1 point

I took the EZ out and run 40 rounds through it between rains. It was too muddy to carry all my gear out so I just fired it for reliability purposes. I had no problem with the grip safety. It protrudes enough that my skinny hand depresses it without any problems. The EZ fired all the rounds without any stoppages of any kind. I was using WWB 9MM RN practice ammo. I was shooting from a table rest, from 30 feet, off hand and the EZ seems to be hitting a little off center and to the left, but I will need to take sandbags out and use them before doing any sight adjustment. I really like the steel 8 round magazines as they have ears on the sides to aid in depressing the spring to load each round into the magazine. I found them to be great aids. I missed a couple shots on a 6" gong and a couple on the 8" gong. I also found I could pocket carry and draw the EZ, with ease, but I had no pocket holster and it printed. I must try a pocket holster. The pistol measures 7" long and 5" tall in the grip. When loaded it balances pretty good. The E Z has a good trigger. For the first outing I was well pleased. I will take it out again, soon after it dries a bit, and I have the time. Plan to run about 400 to 500 rounds to see if it is reliable enough to carry, and want to check the sights for accuracy.1 point

NRA used to, as long as Darren LaSorte was their State Lobbyist, actively work Tennessee for our good, After Jimmie Naifeh picked up his new flame who was antigun, he took a different tact and demanded LaSorte be removed from Tennessee, we got long legs and cute and giggly after that for a while till 2010, when Chris Cox got ticked at Maggart and sent LaSorte back for a bit, then we got a registered Democrat from Virginia who donated to Northam... The new lobbyist was hired out of Bill Lee's staff, and says he is willing to work with us this year, but I would like to know when he became a member of the NRA? If in fact he does decide to seek to support the 2nd Amendment by telling the truth about who does and does not support us in the legislature I will be his best friend. I am a Life and Benefactor NRA Member, have been a life member for longer than a lot of the legislators have been alive. GOA works with TFA, 2nd Amendment Foundation are great folks and work with us as well.1 point

Mike... A bit of perspective here might help. Tennessee wuz a notorious " sheriff's discression to issue " state. Most did it by the " Honorary Deputy " thing when I wuz younger. It held on for a long time here. I think that is part of the howl now... " Polititians losing control of the citizenry "... Remember, Tennessee never had a post Reconstruction Military Governor, but they had a bunch of trash that punished the population like one... The sorriest of em all wuz " Parson " Brownlow... As I remember, he is responsible for the mod to the 2A statement in the Tennessee Constitution " regulating the wearing of arms"... Rememberin leroy...1 point

I got this from TFA this evening. Mr. Harris has a very interesting take on this issue. February 19, 2021 Follow TFA on MeWe – we are discontinuing updates to Facebook and Twitter Share this update from the TFA Website News Posts You likely keep hearing the phrase that Tennessee should become a "sanctuary state" particularly now that Biden-Harris are President and the Democrats control Congress. There is a strong argument that Tennessee should not aspire to be a "sanctuary state" but that it should have higher aspirations and purposes. First, the 2nd Amendment and 10th Amendment are express prohibitions on federal (and now state) infringement of the right of citizens to keep, bear, possess, use, own, carry, practice with, etc., any kind of "arms" that a soldier would want or need or that would be useful in a military or militia engagement. Second, and in contrast, Article 1, Section 8 of the Constitution expressly authorizes Congress to regulation immigration and naturalization. The original terminology "sanctuary" state or more often city arose, if I recall, from progressive, Democrat, socialists areas where people decided that they would hide, shelter, aid and abet criminals who were illegal aliens. As such, these individuals and governments that aided them were trying to block enforcement of laws, regulations and/or order in an area where the Constitution expressly gives Congress authority. Indeed, those"sanctuary"advocates should have been criminally prosecution for obstruction or facilitation but the federal government did not do so - a separate soap box talk. In contrast to the immigration issue, the Constitution expressly prohibits federal infringement relative to "arms". Therefore, a state or local government refusing to enforce or aid in the enforcement of such federal laws, regulations or orders is not a criminal "sanctuary" act. NO! It is to the contrary the express duty of such states and local government to raise the shields of the 2nd and 10th Amendments to block unconstitutional and ultra vires federal laws, regulations and orders over issues where the Constitution itself prohibits federal authority or action Consequently, it is constitutionally inaccurate to characterize 2nd and 10th Amendment based bills as "sanctuary" bills. They are not. They are not acts to frustrate the legitimate constitutional exercise of federal power. They are acts by Sovereign States to shield their citizens from unconstitutional federal activity. We must stop using the term "sanctuary" in any context to reference the citizens' fundamental right to arms and the constitutional prohibition against government infringement of that right. And what I meant was that if the locals refuse to assist, it really limits how many doors they can kick. So, the laws do have some meaning (just not necessarily what they say). "Consent of the governed" is a real deal. The feds have enough resources as long as the PEOPLE are behind them. A federal AWB these days will be impossible to enforce. I won't comply unless they come and take them. How many cops you got?1 point

Young ones and smaller ones eat just fine. They are generally leaner than factory farmed hogs. Taste can vary depending on what they’re getting in their diet. Interestingly, people often describe it as meatier tasting than regular factory farmed pork. As with any hunt, I think treating the animal with integrity after the kill has more impact on taste than anything.1 point
