  1. I picked up a 3d printer last year and I've enjoyed some of the projects that I've made. It's been useful for a lot of stuff. I made an AR15 bolt vice that has been one of my most used tools. I made a sight pusher for Glocks that I've used quite successfully. I've printed up a few extended mag releases for 10/22s. It's been useful and fun. I recently got the files to start trying to print some guns. My first attempt was a 10/22. It took four prints before I got the kinks worked out and made a receiver that would actually work. The first several were undersized or I had extrusion issues that made them not worth trying to fix. Then I got this printed. This one was spot on for dimensions and the bolt ran great in it. But before I could test fire it, I dropped it and it cracked. The receiver split at the ejection port around to the barrel opening. I had it installed in a magpul stock and the muzzle end of the barrel hit the ground first. Without a barrel band, the chamber end of the barrel pushed up on the receiver in the right way to split it. I've been convinced that this can be fixed but I did print a replacement. The replacement is also too tight and I've sanded on it for days trying to get it to work and it's just not happening so I got back on trying to fix this receiver. Some black JB Weld two part epoxy has this receiver stronger than ever. I pulled the split apart as much as I could without making it worse and let the epoxy run down into it so that there is plenty in the split but also lining the outside. But of course now it won't fit in a stock. So I've been sanding it down to get it to fit. I know that it's lost a lot of color but a little heat brings that color right back. I'm hoping to test this receiver out this weekend. The other project that I've been working on is a Glock 17 clone. This first picture is of the frame almost straight off the printer. I removed a little of the support material before I thought to take a picture. The second picture is with the support material removed. This design uses a three piece rail system. One piece front rail and two in the rear. Here is a shot of the rails installed. As parts have trickled in I've continued to assemble this one. I'm unable to find a trigger pin right now so I don't know when this one will get finished. But this is in it's current state. I was particularly excited about how well this print came out. Not so much the print quality as the dimensions. Check out the fit of this light on the rail. I'm excited to get the rest of the parts in so that I can see if this will work out. I'll be sure to keep this thread updated.

  5. I know its Amazon, but they currently have 3M replacement Gel Pads for Peltor earmuffs for $20.56. I have always seen these sell for $40-$50 per pair. These are sold by Amazon and not a third party vendor. I was suspicious, but ordered a couple of a pairs to replace some gel pads that are about 8-10 years old. The gel pads I received were in 3M packaging and had a 3M instruction sheet. They have 3M embossing in the plastic on the underside of the pads. They look and feel like the gel pads I'm replacing did when they were new. If you wear Peltor hearing protection for long periods of time or they're old enough that the original foam pads are getting flat/stiff, these are a great upgrade. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B087D6P26P/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Our family has 4 pair of Peltor earmuffs - Tactical Sports, Tactical 100 and Tactical 300. These pads fit all 3 models. I have no financial or other interest in Amazon selling these, it's just these appear to be genuine and are the lowest price I've ever seen.

  12. No idea what load your looking for, but #5 would be my choice over unique for HP bullet in g21 with stock barrel length. cfe pistol moves good velocity without being flashy. Plenty accurate at <murder charge distance. I use a lot of #5, but my g21’s have 6.6” barrels so pack a lot of longshot or cfe-p in not for plinking rounds.

  17. Yeah, it's a weird pace we're in. I mean, it's truly amazing what you can do with a sub-$500 printer. Full stop. I can remember a time when even the free version of Cura I regularly use would have been mid-5 figures. At the same time - the ability of some of the $10K printers is equally mind-blowing. We're going to be able to do some really great stuff in the future. I'm impressed that you've gotten good results with a 0.12 layer height. That's skinny. I'm running a RigidBot that's a few years old. 0.20 is about as good as I can get reliable results with.

  19. Cool. I've been messing around with some of the CarbonX filament - in my case PLA with carbon fibers impregnated. I haven't done actual strength testing - but I like the results so far. It's not that much more expensive than a spool of regular PLA. https://www.3dxtech.com/carbon-fiber-3d-filaments/carbonx-pla-cf/

  23. Wow! I’ve never had a problem with my neighbors. When I purchased my house the guy next door came over and introduced himself, told me his garage is always open and if I needed to borrow anything to feel free to use and return it. I never did. It doesn’t feel right just going on someone else’s property and removing their possessions without a conversation. His actions left a good impression on me so I started doing the same thing each time a new neighbor moved in. I never offered free passage into my garage, but I would offer the use of lawn equipment and tools if they needed anything while getting settled. The people in that video obviously had ongoing problems long before that snow day.

  24. I think that's mine too. Bullseye is a little faster than Unique. Plenty of room in the case for either.

  25. 5 grains of Bullseye is my standard load for 230 grain ball ammo. Wouldn’t it work for these bullets as well? Probably not the highest velocity you can get, but it was good enough for Uncle Sam.

  26. I've had terrible results with USPS. Lost two packages completely, had one (a gift for Christmas) delivered to Nashville and routed back to Wisconsin and made another migration south. Delivered three weeks late. It never gets any better, so for the last four months, I just pay extra for better service. Piece of mind insurance knowing stuff will get here on time. Has really helped my anger management and psychological outlook. Need to check and see if spending extra money on FedEx and UPS is deductible as a medical expense.

  27. Have checked Knox County HD off and on all times of day and night for several weeks now, registration always closed. Happened to see on local gnus last nite that new appointments would open at 8:30 am. Sure enough, was able to sign up for the waiting list, plus the option to show up on 30 min notice for any cancellations. Still open right now. 31. Just an update. I got my first covid vaccine today. The VA had an outstanding distribution plan. They had vehicles enter on the west bed tower side. Identification was checked at three spots in the parking lot, then you proceed into the new parking structure where you’re told what to expect after the vaccine and given another appointment in 21 days to receive the second dose of vaccine. Inside the parking structure they had several socially distanced lanes to issue the vaccine. After receiving the vaccine they require you to wait 15 minutes before leaving. They place a piece of paper on your windshield with your exit time. You exit the parking structure and pull into a staging area where a gentleman checks your time, removes the paperwork from your windshield and you’re done. The entire process took about 20-25 minutes. So far I’ve only had a little tenderness at the injection location which is to be expected with any vaccine.

  35. The murderer fired the first several shots at the ground or in the air. And they still were hurling insults at him. The woman pulled out her phone and said she had it on camera. This had been a long ongoing feud but the fact that the folks just really could not grasp that he was for real and their lives were in danger boggles the mind. The couple did not deserve to die like that, but the story is coming out from the neighbors say that they were not innocent players in all of this. You never know who you’re dealing with and you never know when that psycho switch is going to flip. You just can’t go around pushing people because sometimes you find that you end up dead. ETA: This all relates to some of the recent road rage discussions we’ve had.

  36. I asked the same question at a legal self defense class in December. My question was what if two guys kick down my door and come into my house in the middle of the night and I get the drop on them and tell them hands up and they just turn around and walk out... what can I do? The short answer was nothing. Get a description of the person and their vehicle and call the police. My takeaway from the course is 1) You do NOT want to shoot someone because their POS relatives will sue you for everything you own. And they can do this even if there are witnesses and video to support your case! 2) You'd better be darn sure your life is really on the line because after you shoot, your financial life will probably be on the line. Even if you win, the legal fees to defend yourself can be up a half million dollars.

  37. Helment and Jacket are modeled after the Movie The Rocketeer. I'd say the photo is a staged shoot for personal or maybe a cosplay event. The young lady's face is almost familiar, but haven't got it yet. Long legged little critter though.

  38. I think Chuck and Chip and A.J. and a few others have done a good job covering the answer but I want to touch on the above question. We don't pull our guns to threaten people. We pull our guns to stop the threat. If the threat ends at the draw or appearance of a firearm, it was a good day. If it takes being on target but the trigger never gets pulled, again, still a good day. But if it takes an empty mag plus a few more rounds, that's the amount of force we must use. Our goal should NEVER be to threaten anyone. Our primary goal is always the same. We use the actions and force necessary to STOP THE THREAT!

  39. Ok so there's some problems with deliveries. We've been through all that. But what the hell is with the counter clerks? Now my local post office is the main one in my little city. The counter sales are set up as such. 4 registers along a long counter all of which are fed by a single line of customers. Next customer just goes to whatever clerk is open. Normally there are 3 clerks working, sometimes two. #4 is almost always used strictly for passports. I've had to go to the PO twice in the last week. Once just for stamps and the second time to mail a package. Both times I was the 4th person in line when I got there. Both times 30+ minutes to take care of my business! I mean really these people were sloooowwww! I've noticed that quite often a clerk will assist one customer, then disappear into the back for 5-10 minutes. Come back, do one more customer and disappear again! You can see it in their faces, they just don't give a damn at all. And its been like this for as long as I can remember.

  42. Carrying a gun is a constitutional right and a natural right, even though this state doesn’t see it that way. It is a persons own responsibility to be trained to deal with a deadly force situation. The CCP was put in place for those that can’t afford training. The HCP class is not a training class and many can’t afford real training classes that runs hundreds of dollars for the class and ammo. But many of them can still get trained by friends or family. They have the personal responsibility to get trained, and we have no idea how many do. Are untrained people shooting others a big problem? I don’t know. I know that many instances of bad shoots or negligent shootings come from those that have been trained. Again, its what the number crunchers desire the numbers to show. My thoughts come from my experience of dealing with the victims of violence that needed the immediate ability to carry a gun, in a state that would not allow that, trained or not.

  48. As others have said, important to remember that the reasonableness of your actions will be judged by people who aren't scared, who didn't just wake up to the sound of a stranger in the home, and who don't have loved ones in the next room. @ Raoul - My wife and I were living in a low-end apartment 15 years ago and were both off work and asleep in the bedroom about 2 pm. She shook me awake and whispered "There's someone in the house." Maybe seven seconds later I had grabbed my 1911 from a drawer and heard heavy footsteps in the hall. Someone rattled the locked bedroom doorknob from outside the room. I sounded off with "Get out or I'll shoot," racked the slide, and aimed at the door. Immediately I heard footsteps running away. Stupidly I opened the bedroom door and followed the sound. I made it out the front door in time to see a guy start his engine and drive away faster than I would have thought a pest control van can go. Afterward I had a huge adrenaline dump, figured out what had happened, felt angry, felt frustrated... and was very relieved I hadn't fired through that bedroom door. About two days later the apt. leasing office admitted to me that they routinely gave keys to a local pest control company to send contractors inside units (with no prior notice to residents) and spray for bugs during the day "while residents are at work." Suffice to say, we moved. There's a lot about it that I could have done better. But no one got hurt.
