Howdy, I thought I would post this just in case someone has that question rolling around in their noggin. I loaded .357 magnum with158 gr. Hornady XTP HP for hunting and defense. It cost me a tad less than $30 for 100 rounds. Ammoseek had 158gr Hornady XTP HP for $174.99 for 50 or $349.98 for the same thing I loaded for less than $30. Granted it took my time to do the work, but most hobbies like fishing, golf, hunting etc won't pay you $319.98 per day. Plus it was a nice rainy day and I was dry and all by myself.3 points

After a few decades away I have returned home to the mountains of my youth. After having spent the last decade or so in the commie-wealth states of New England I am so looking forward to some overdue range time.2 points

And he will want to load another 5K or so. Lock n load, don't worry about how long it takes to get the powder dispenser set. Just remember you are making custom ammunition, not the run of the mill that we buy just to get by. Just double check yourself and don't assume anything. I won't load if someone stops by unless I am teaching them to load. If you stop by to chat I will finish the round I am working on and turn around and talk as long as you want. No computer, no T.V., no distractions. I like to stay focused and it is a good thing to forget all your every day worries. It is a fun hobby don't turn it into work. It sure is a good feeling to break a clay with a reload, kill a turkey with a reload or a deer. And it is a really good feeling to look at the growing pile of ammo. But it is addicting don't say we didn't warn you.2 points

Ding, Ding, Ding, you win. That is one reason I started reloading. At $6.00 per hundred me and a shooting buddy will go thru $24 worth of ammo. I always make sure to take plenty of ammo in case my shooting partner that day doesn't have a whole lot, I tell him there is the ammo can, have fun, just help pick up the brass. So before the next range trip I can fill 'em up again.2 points

These posts always make me chuckle. You may be saving on costs per round, but most of us end up shooting more. So we really don't save any money at all. Of course these days with the Covid, shortages and high costs, most of us are saving quite a bit because we aren't shooting at all.2 points

I would start with a single stage press and upgrade later if you see the need. If you do, you’ll still find uses for the single stage press. I have balance beam scales as well as a cheap little Frankfort Arsenal pocket electronic scale. I compared weights between them for quite a while before I decided to trust the electronic scale. It is more accurate than I have use for. I use it almost exclusively now as it is faster. After nearly 40 years reloading, I’ve yet to find the need to replace my single stage press.2 points

I'm pretty sure I commented on this before but I'll tell again. I started a project prior to Rona, 3-1-20 or somewhere thereabout. Over the course of it I watched prices increase exponentially. Much like the ammo and component increase we are seeing now everything tied to building has doubled or more. Sheeting went to 2 1/2 times from March to September. Once I got to a good stopping point I did. I'm missing a roof over one section but I can live it for the time being. I have a relative now wanting to move out of the city and is running into the same issue many of you are. I've cautioned them to give it some time if they can. I'm no real estate expert but I was in construction during the 2008 housing $hitstorm and this has a similar feeling to it. Good luck to all you guys whichever way you may go.2 points

I'm looking for a house now too, and all I can come away with is being underwhelmed for my budget range. The idea of making such a huge decision on what amounts to acceptable rather than something to be enthusiastic about isn't one I'm enjoying.2 points

Hey all, Names Andrew, just recently relocated to free America from New York!! Have been shooting most of my life, and got my carry permit upon my arrival in TN. Currently have the pistol bug and have a small collection of essentials. I am looking for advice on best places to shoot both pistol and long guns. Nice to meet all of you and glad I found this site!1 point

The local V A Hospital called me this morning, and I get my first Coved shot on Wednesday(27th) and the second 4 weeks later. Getting the Moderna(S) Vaccine. Will be exceedingly glad. Been told to take a Modem tablet prior. Let you know how it goes.1 point

If we use U-Haul as a guide, more people moved to Tennessee than any other state in 2020. They neasure this by the amount of one way rentals they had. And no, it's not really CA refugees that are the biggest problem. https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.tennessean.com/amp/4130347001 Top 10 states Tennessee bound U-Haul truck customers came from in 2020 1. Florida 2. Georgia 3. Alabama 4. North Carolina 5. Kentucky 6. Texas 7. Virginia 8. Mississippi 9. Ohio 10. Illinois (California is No. 16) I've mentioned my wife and I are trying to buy a house. The situation in Knoxville is horrible and alarming. Knoxville is 7th in the nation for increase in home prices over 2019. In November, prices were up 20% YOY while supply is down 30% according to a Knox news article I found. A friend of ours bought a home in 2018 for $350k. It was new construction. Their neighbors just sold a nearly identical house for $500k. I saw someone else mention they put in an offer on a house in Knoxville for $15k over asking price and they didn't get it. The seller had nearly 20 offers. My wife wants to build. I don't want to build. I think we're going to compromise and build.1 point

A.J. I have read and re-read this thread and I really enjoy the down to earth conversation. We had a young man who ended up being our pastor's grand-daughters husband. He got saved and baptized and you could just see him growing in his faith. One day in a morning prayer time, when he prayed it was something like this, Hey Jesus and he talks with Jesus like me and you might talk. It was really refreshing, because I think too many times we want to paint God as a being so far away, but he isn't. I have this idea that God is leaning down cupping his hand to his ear listening for all of us to have a conversation with Him. I haven't told anyone this and hesitate to do it now and I am not bragging so please don't think that. Sometime in July we had a flash flood and me, my son and grandson had been shooting and stopped by a LGS well as we were leaving a fellow in a well used car had his hood up and it is still lightly raining, he had misjudged the water and got his engine flooded. Well we hook up the jumper cables and it took 30 minutes or more of fiddling to get the car going and the fellow had told me he didn't have but a few dollars and was waiting on a check. So I put the jumper cables up and it just hit me to give this guy some money, I was kind of like you I had about 5 Benjamins and some Washingtons and I said to myself, you have much more than this guy, so I hand him a Benjamin and he looks at it and said are you kidding me and I said nope, not kidding you. You want to know what happened next, he asked me if it was okay if he prayed for me. I almost broke down crying. My son saw me give him money, but didn't see how much, I never told my wife. You know the saying it is better to give than to receive, believe me it is so much better. I used to use the word coincidence, I don't use it anymore, if someone is in your path, they are there for a reason. Stop and figure out the reason and what you could do for them. Hope all of you have a blessed day. Thank you Jesus for all the many blessings you have rained down from Heaven upon me and my family.1 point

This is great info guys! Now if I just had money in the budget for another .45 LMAO. When I get a .38 super I'm thinking another witness or two. Wait, what,,,did someone say they don't and have never had a .45? How is that possible?1 point

Dont knock a single stage press for handgun rounds. Its all I ever used since the mid 60's and I never felt they were to slow. I can kill time watching TV or reloading in the workshop. Nothing wrong with being alone for a few hours and assembling a couple hundred rounds of 9mm or 45 acp. If your a competitive shooter I can understand going to a progressive press.1 point

Thank you both! I have been shooting at point blank as of now. For ORSA do you have to be a member? Is it hard to get into? Had a sportsman club where I was on long Island and it was like a 5 year wait for people to become members if you didn't already have family there. I'll also check the other places out once weather gets better!1 point
-
I wasn't actually actively looking for a 45 at this point. Was at Shoot Point Blank and was left unsupervised by my wife! They had the 10mm and the 45 in the case. Once I picked it up I wasn't putting it down. I'll let you know how it shoots when I finally get back there to shoot it this week!1 point

My girl's doctor is making her hold off for the Johnson and Johnson. She has some auto immune stuff that concerns him with the first two. I have no idea how fast it's moving here in the sticks.1 point
-
Many people moving great distances will hire a mover for most of their stuff and take some things in a U-Haul because of logistics. Many people also do not trust movers, or can't find movers in conjunction with their timing. Some are military members that aren't of high enough rank to have the military move them. I'm sure there are more reasons than I just listed that are not due to being poor.1 point

Copper is well known as an advance indicator of the direction of the economy. Due to the shutdowns, most commodity prices fell precipitously in March of last year. It's logical that copper, and other commodities would have increased in price as the economy reopened over the summer and fall. Copper's use in ammo manufacturing is a drop in the bucket in terms of its overall use throughout the economy, its doubtful that the current shortages in the ammo market have affected copper's price very much ...1 point

And about the U-Haul thing... Consider this. Those moving here by U-Haul are the folks too poor to hire a moving company. I fear we may be acquiring other states problem children.1 point

If anyone is really interested in knowing, Zanders is the national Importer for all Eley ammo. All merchants except Killoughs purchase their ammo through Zanders. Zanders recently sold out of all ammo they had. One vendor bought approx 300 cases of Tenex. Killoughs is the only vendor that also get's their own lots and inventory of Eley as they run the test center so those lots are not available to anyone else. They also cater to the competition rimfire community so they are a bit of an exception to the other vendors. If you check inventories on their website it will say St.Louis/Missouri Warehouse or Texas Warehouse. St. Louis means it is a Zanders lot. Texas means it is a Killough's lot.1 point

If you have an idea on what you want holster wise, give 1911 alltheway a holler. He made me a shoulder rig and a gun belt. I am very happy with both. Quick turn around time to on custom stuff.1 point

Well it's been along time since I posted but I am about to aquire a vintage SW model 15 and a Spesco. Both 38 special. Spesco is in great shape. The sw however was a police issued peice and shows it's share of holster wear, it's over all in good condition but I'm wondering what some here may think is a good price to pay for them. Seller is asking 600. I'm unable to post pics. A lot has changed since I last posted and not sure how to post pics.1 point
-
Hard to say without pictures. Just about any mechanically sound Model 15 should sell in the $400-450 range even with a rough finish. A very good one could easily bring $600 these days. I had to look up the Spesco as I've never heard of them. Apparently, these were made by Taurus in the 1970s. Pics I saw looked like a decent gun. But also remember that it was the early Taurus revolvers that gave the name a bad rap which took many years to overcome. If it checks out mechanically, I'd take a chance on it.1 point

I just picked up a RIA M1911A2 Ultra Tac. Haven't had a chance to shoot yet but looking forward to it. I have big hands and it is extremely comfortable to hold. I agree it's extremely heavy but I am looking forward to see how that works with the recoil of the 45 round as all my other pistols are 9mm.1 point

I decided to have a new house built on the lake in Lenoir City. It was a constant stress headache for a year while building and ran 20% over budget. If I had it to do over I would buy one already built. Good luck and I hope your build goes smoother than mine did.1 point

Good luck finding a builder, they're booked years out and the cost of materials is climbing just like house prices. A fixer upper is your best value right now. We saw a house in our neighborhood get flipped recently. The price they got for it made my wife say "we should sell and move!" Yes dear, but then we have to buy back into this crazy market. "Oh."1 point

Desert Eagle in 50AE, brushed chrome finish with picatinny rail on the top of the barrel. Have no earthly way to justify the purchase other than to have fun off the back porch and to see what happens when it hits the 50 yard gong. Purchased it on Gunbrokers so it will take a week or so to get here. No hurry as I have zero components for it, not even reloading dies. Will take me a few months to gather brass, dies, and bullets as everywhere is out of stock. I double dare the local racoons or skunks to make them self visible around my house this coming spring. Figure all I need to do is get within a few feet and the shock alone will kill em, lol. Empty a mag or two into the ground should take care of the moles. Hope to add a red dot and try it out when deer hunting next season. I'll try to remember to update this post when I finally get a chance to shoot it.0 points

So, i'm a pig hunter. Rabidly so, in fact. I prefer hunting hogs to just about anything else on the planet. I've hunted them in 8 states & on 3 continents. But tonight I did something I never ever thought i'd manage. I. Shot. A. MONSTER! I have to add, this was completely free range. No lodge, no fences, no pay-to-play & it was here in middle TN.... just a straight up hand to God feral hog. I've seen big pigs before. The kind of hogs that really get your blood pumping, but in 12 years & probably thousands of hours of hunt time I've never, ever seen a pig like this. 12 FOOT, running neck shot with my .300blk.0 points
