I met Charley Pride once as a kid in a Golden Corral in Anniston, Alabama. I was over there with my grandfather, and he was there having lunch. No one seemed to bother him - and truthfully I don’t know that anyone noticed him. But on my way out we passed his table and I said, “hello, Mr. Pride.” He smiled and proceeded to have a lengthy conversation with a kid who probably wasn’t more than 10 or 11. He wasn’t too far from the height of his fame, but he wasn’t too big or important to take the time to talk to a kid. He’s had a fan in me ever since.

Vonnegut wrote "Harrison Bergeron" in 1961. For those who've not read it it concerns mandating equality of outcome by restricting those with talent. I see shades of it today.

I wasn't even aware of the "buy build shoot" kits until I read this thread. I was aware of the 80% lower kits and even did a little research on their legality. Everything I read said that it's totally legal to buy one of those 80% lowers, which the BATF did not classify as a firearm, and complete it oneself. And no serial number is required, even if it's sold later. (Though it would have to be serialized if sold through a dealer in order to complete the paperwork.) Having looked now at the BBS kits, and trying to be objective about it, I can understand Magiccarpet's position that those shouldn't be available. I don't agree with that position, though. If it's perfectly legal for me to machine my own handgun from a chunk of billet aluminum, why shouldn't it be just as legal for me to do a little finish machining on an item that's mostly complete? In other words, why should it be that only a skilled machinist should be able to take advantage of being able to build a firearm at home? There's nothing that makes a skilled machinist any more trustworthy than a guy like me, who has minimal machining skills. So as I see it, it either should be legal to build your own firearm or not. And even though I understand Magiccarpet's position, the problem with agreeing to "sensible" restrictions on guns is that as soon as that new restriction is in place it becomes the new standard. And the anti-gun folks begin working on the next "sensible" restriction. The anti-gunners will NEVER be satisfied so long as Americans are free to own anything beyond a basic bolt-action hunting rifle or a pump shotgun. And perhaps not then. So any concession on the part of gun-owners is only advancing the anti-gunner position. A right once lost is very difficult to regain.

BATF is just the label they run under. I blame SEVERE gvt overreach since 9/11 and even before then if you want to dig deeper. I'm convinced they approve/sign off on some of these "devices" long enough for people to fill their homes with them then deem them illegal just so they already have something to charge you with should they ever need to come raid your azz. To Sig's credit, they had my upper on the way back to me within 2 days of receiving it. They didn't send me a new BCG but they did install a new firing pin with a spring. Hopefully this one lasts a bit longer.

You, me, or anyone with a credit card can purchase 3D printers and materials retail, download files for free off the internet, and POOF, parts. Do not repair the box unless it is just falling apart. If the gun is as flawless as you say then keep the box the way it is. It will matter to a Colt collector. They would much rather have an unmolested torn box than a taped up one. Nice commander!

One of the hallmarks of conservatism in jurisprudence is a reluctance to intervene in states' internal matters, as well as a strict interpretation of constitutional law. The SCOTUS upheld these ideals in rejecting the Texas case and their refusal to allow one state to dictate to others how to run their elections. The Trump administration (well, along with Mitch McConnell who has probably been more instrumental in shaping the federal judiciary to be honest) has put an indelible conservative stamp on both the SCOTUS and the remainder of the Federal court system, actions which will do more to benefit the country than any of Trump's other endeavors. However one of the consequences of seating more conservative judges is to lessen the influence that politics and politicians have on the judiciary. This is a good thing, even if it causes Trump to have a hissy fit over this one case rejection ...

Some do, and I have heard many of my Japanese friends make comments about it. I spent several years stationed in Hawaii. My wife taught school while we were there and we had some close friends of Japanese decent. The truth was the attack was built around bad intelligence and fear. The whole “If there had not been a Pearl Harbor, then there wouldn’t have been a Hiroshima and Nagasaki.” Is well understood and accepted amongst the Japanese. Military strategist believe the Japanese provoking the US to join when it did was probably one of the best things that could have happened to end the war. Many more lives would have been lost around the world if the US had not intervened and dropped the MOAB. I can not describe what it’s like being on Oahu each December 7th. It just feels eerie. It’s almost as if the sea, the plants, the animals, and every person knows December 7th on Oahu is a sobering day. The sun just rises slowly on that day each year.

Exactly! While I take precautions it doesn’t mean I think shutting everything down is okay. No one (most of the media) is talking about the kids that don’t know where their next meal is coming from, or the suicides, or the homicides, or the domestic violence, robberies, burglaries. We won’t get those numbers until the lockdowns are over…. and I suspect they will be staggering. Will anyone take responsibility? Of course not, Trump will be gone and they will blame it all on him. Again thanks for all the prayers and well wishes. I went into surgery at 10am and was home by 6pm. My after surgery PT went really smooth and after the gourmet hospital lunch and PT session I was processed and out of there. I know the nerve block is doing it’s job well and I keep waiting on the pain to kick in, but so far not much at all. I can flex my knee back to about 70 degrees and straighten it back out and I’m walking around the house every 2 hours and doing the sliding exercises as prescribed. I’m sliding the walker around, but I’m able to walk fairly normal and place all of my 265 lbs on it with no trouble. Of course I may be in the fetal position crying profusely (haha) when the nerve block ends in 24 to 48 hours they say. As of now the only thing I feel is a kind of soreness like the day after a good workout in the gym. I’m also keeping ice on the bottom and top while sitting down. I think if I were in your shoes I'd contact the buyer, explain the problem, and apologize for the inconvenience. You've made a good-faith attempt to follow through, and if the buyer is a reasonable person he'll understand the situation.

When I first got up it was real tough, but now I’ve been walking and doing pt each time I take the meds, well, about 30 minutes after my pain meds and it’s bearable now. I’ve got 4 ice packs in rotation.

I’m doing the PT they gave me to do until Monday when I go to Benchmark PT and start on the real stuff. They told me to take pain meds about 30 minutes before i get there. It’s sure harder to walk around today, but I’m doing it. I appreciate the encouragement.

I'd call that my last resort, keep running chkdsk/r to see if it can get through the issue. When it's running, it's trying to repair any issues it may have. It also marks the bad sectors so they won't be used again, sometimes it looks to be "stuck", but it's still working. If you have an indicator light, it blinks when the hard drive is being accessed, as long as it keeps blinking, even if it's just now and then, let it keep running. The good news is, more than likely the HD is ok, just a software issue. Dell puts a hidden partition on the hard drive to recover the pc, which Dell will happily charge you for if you send it to them. If you're so worried, get a temp job at an old folks home, they'll hook you right up. The way I look at is is this; We were born with an expiration date, and if you believe in destiny, then a manner of death too, so why waste time worrying about it.

I can't get my head around some of the valuations. I mean, I get IPO frenzy, made a few bucks that way myself over the years. But you've got startups that haven't even posted a profit yet valued higher than whole industries! I get that Air BnB is a disruptor in the hospitality industry, but across the market, corporate valuations are at such high multiples to earnings its very risky. My retirement money I trade very conservatively. Fun money not so much.

I've been positioned conservatively for a while (missed a lot), but my dividend stocks have been doing very well last few weeks. Agree, seeing distribution here, as always at the top..... The IPO market lately is beyond bonkers. Another sign that tells me not to adjust my positions.

How long is this mask debate going to go on? Really, it’s beyond ridiculous. A boxer dog named Dexter is going viral for leading his blind canine companion, Ginger, safely down a flight of stairs, according to a video. The video showed Dexter using his body and the wall to safely guide Ginger down the stairs without falling. So now that the TBI/TICS denial was overturned (jeeeeze) this is what I was waiting on. I picked up this nearly flawless Colt Commander from 1970 according to the Colt website. Very little evidence of it being fired outside of the factory. A little wear on the trigger, but not much else... Any apparent flaws in the pic are glare or dust, no wear on the slide or frame at all. Blueing typical of Colts I have seen from this era has become slightly plum colored on the slide. Factory box shows an original; price of $125 marked down to $104. The box shows it's age, but the cosmo paper and the original instructions are there. Question for you Colt guys, is it taboo to repair the box a bit? I mean obviously anything done to the gun is off limits to purists, but what about box repairs?

Agreed. One worry I'd have with AirBnB is they don't have a big enough competitor...yet. I wonder how much of their value is based on market share, and susceptible to a quick yank from a start-up that pushes into their niche. DoorDash is benefiting from a lot of people needing work right now. Once employment returns to normal, their compensation model might be a risk. But the fact that they're operating in competition with GrubHub and Uber Eats is good to see.

If you can get it to the DOS prompt again run chkdsk /r /f (if you haven’t already). That will actually fix the disk, if it still doesn’t boot then drive is toast of there is a slim chance the OS is corrupt.

I doubt very much that gang bangers, or those that don’t want paperwork, are buying 80% plastic lowers. Why would they when they can just buy a real lower, or a complete firearm? Or just steal them? I suspect people that buy plastic guns are just tinkerers that need something to keep busy with.

I have plenty of unregistered weapons, but I did want to get an 80% AR lower just to see if I could do it. I do not have the skill to make one from a 0%, otherwise I would want to do that. For me, it is not about having a registered or unregistered weapon, it's just because I can if I choose to. The only thing that stopped me, so far, is that weapons were available much cheaper than a DIY.

Just got off the phone with Sig. The employee seemed surprised to hear about the firing pin. They have completely redesigned the the BCG and firing pin and don't have any spare parts they can send me. The only option is to send back the upper on their dime. Apparently the repair shop has the parts to fix it and send it back. He even said it was an overkill solution to a simple problem. Hopefully the new design is an improvement and the gun will be reliable after this.
