  1. The cool thing about being prepared is that you can sit back and enjoy the show. We've seen this before, and we'll see it again.

  2. In fairness I left out one category that deserves some sympathy. Newbies. Lousy time to be starting the path to gun ownership.

  3. Capitalism. You really wouldn't want it any other way. Anyone not prepared at this point in time is either impoverished, ignorant, or lazy.

  4. Picked up this little Remington 597 HB the other day for $200. It had never been fired, the guy bought it new and put it in the safe. Put a Cheap Axeon Red Dot on it, installed some sling studs and put a Quake Sling on it so far. I've put around 400 rounds of Mini Mag through it so far without any ftf or jams. The trigger isn't awful but might put a Volquartsen Hammer, Extractor and a spring kit in it later on. But even with the factory setup I can shoot a .625 5 shot group at 25 yards with that red dot and 40gr Mini Mag Solids. Hope to take it out this weekend and put a hurtin on the tree rats.

  7. I have witnessed Narcan completely heal COVID in less than 2 mins. This isnt coming from the ole super reliable news companys . This is watching Lazarus rise from the dead stuff. All kidding aside . I believe the numbers are super over blown to create panic. It is a real thing but just as the FLU . Its being used to beat us into submission by wrecking the economy. You know China is loving this. BTW when a firefighter gets dispatched on any kind of breathing problems its coded as COVID . Then the ff/emt shows up to an heroin od . The ff then gives NARCAN and covid gone..... but still gets listed as covid when he gets to the hospital. Follow the money. Over all point .... wash your hands and dont let people cough in your face and your good. take zinc and vit c drink water. I had it in march and i waterboarded COVID into submission for 5 days with Evan Williams and here i sit typing my opinions away .

  8. It's certainly an understood business model at this point. While you could have some insurance premium related to reloads - that's something that's easily remedied in the policy language. It's much more likely that commercial ranges understand quite well the LTV(lifetime value) of a customer - and know that customers who reload are likely going to use the range a lot more often are actually going to have a much lower lifetime value and cause a lot more wear and tear on the equipment. To put it bluntly - most indoor ranges actually don't want members who are going to use the range on a weekly basis. They add a bunch of cost. So, they filter on (reloading == hardcore shooter who's going to be here a lot.) Take away the ability to shoot reloads and you filter out a bunch of those customers who are going to make you have to service your traps and your air handlers and all that stuff more often.

  10. Was just in Cookeville WM and thought it was odd that panic buyers bought up all the shotguns and hunting rifles too! Then saw on social media they hid them from looters if Trump wins. Maybe they know something! Hope they do.

  11. It takes events like what have been happening lately to make some aware just how vulnerable they can be.

  12. I of course have to ask....why would you ever buy a gun from wallyworld instead of supporting a real gun shop? Put your loyalty where it counts.
    1 point
  13. I agree. Wallyworld will be out of the gun biz soon I bet. They don't like controversy. Easiest path to dollars with the least resistance...

  14. Honestly, it would not surprise me if Walmart slowly but surely exited this market entirely. That said, every local gun store in the country would shout it with glee.

  15. My LGS is starting to see his pistol inventory get back to close to normal, and prices are pretty close to normal. Long guns are still slightly elevated but people keep buying them..... Ammo is a whole different ball game

  18. Well, if President Trump is reelected I believe the gun/ammo business will get back to some reasonable level, if biden wins, all bets are off.

  25. They're right in that they're not a good use of tax money. Flying over near empty stadiums when the federal government borrowed $3,000,000,000,000 in one fiscal year is a waste of resources and training hours. I can't imagine flyovers is much of a benefit beyond the flight hours, and right now we need to streamline as much of the operations and training budget as we can while still having combat readiness. So, sorry/not sorry, we shouldn't be seeing flyovers for a random 4pm game early in the season.

  26. Like everything it depends on your situation. I wouldn’t put a gun safe in the garage. I also see a gun safe as secure storage, and to slow burglars down, not to protect firearms in a fire. Insurance is for fire protection. Guns and jewelry surviving a fire in a safe has been argued at great lengths. The answer is always…it depends.

  27. No reloads allowed = better chance you might be compelled to buy their overpriced ammo. The last time I shot “factory” reloads was at an indoor range bought from the same range under different ownership a couple of years earlier. One round literally did explode in my face. Total and complete head separation. Point is, are store bought reloads somehow more safer than hand-rolled?

  28. That’s one of those threads that’s buried in the depths of TGO close to a decade back or more. It’s not a unique phenomenon at all either. Those of us that've been around here forever have borne witness to multiple folks who don’t know how to handle negative reviews on social media.

  29. I don’t have an answer for you. I don’t think the politicians on either side have a clue. Their focus as usual is on money. I do trust that through trial and error the scientists are trying their best to solve this virus. Like others have mentioned, I don’t believe we will ever know the true number of infections or Covid-19 related deaths. I don’t hold a grudge against people who don’t believe we have a real issue, but I wish they and the people who believe it’s a common courtesy to wear a mask would stop bashing one another. It’s like arguing politics and religion, nothing gets accomplished. Last night I was touched for the fifth time since February by this horrible virus. One individual had a week long hospitalization and recovered. One individual had a multi week hospitalization and recovered. He was featured on a local news story. One individual showed symptoms and had to quarantine for two before testing negative. One individual died last month. It broke my heart. The final individual passed last night. Two friends and three relatives. It’s like liking in a dream. It’s puzzling to me that not everyone in the country aren’t willing to make a few sacrifices for a short amount of time to see if we can starve this virus out of existence. It’s embarrassing to think that we are a country that considers itself a world leader, but the best we can come up with to fight this virus is a Hail Mary try at herd immunity. I believe like everything else, our level of concern for the virus is based upon how much it touches each of us as individuals.

  30. I hope those of you who think this is just media hype are right. The graph that MacGyver posted isn't selling anything or trying to prop up Nielsen ratings, so you might want to consider that as well. While the media has seized this as the latest thing to connect eyeballs to advertising dollars, don't let that cloud your ability to think rationally and consider the way this virus is spreading exponentially. And even if the people who are most vulnerable are the aged and the infirm, the fear that is swirling around it is capable of crippling economies and already has done exactly that in other countries. In a few weeks, it would be great if we could look back at this and laugh about how wrong the believers were. In the meantime, I'd be making sure I had food, water, essential medicines, and other necessities required to be confined to my house for 2-3 weeks. I'd also be making sure my vehicle(s) had full tanks of gas so that if the petroleum supply chain is interrupted by a labor shortage, I still had fuel to get to wherever I might need to go in an emergency. Postscript note... I wish I could type more but I'm still on the clock from 0700HRS, making very unprecedented preparations for a company that doesn't spook easily when it comes to healthcare topics.

  31. I think the media is trying to create a frenzy that could upset folks going to the polls in November. And no I don't wear or have a tinfoil hat. There are 30,000-45,000 people that die every year of the flu and you don't hear CNN say much about it. There is plenty of toilet tissue to go around if people wouldn't buy 2 years worth at a time. This reminds me of the .22LR "shortage" we had. I would love to know how many billion or more rounds aren't setting in the bottom of a lot of gun safes that will never be shot. But they got em!! I saw a figure and don't know if it was true saying that ammo sales had went thru the roof since the virus got bigger. Are some guys going to shoot the virus?? The figure for .40 cal was something like 470% increase. Oh well lets see what the media can stir up tomorrow. Boy Howdy!!
