  1. Approximately 7 weeks ago I sent the slide from my 4.25" duty-size M&P M2.0 9mm to Doug Presson at DP Custom Works to have their GAB 4.0 package and a fresh jet-black nitride finish applied to it. Today, it came back and I quickly reassembled it with a Trijicon RM07 red dot, 10-8 Performance sights (M&P front, Glock rear) and an Apex Tactical Specialties striker safety plunger. I am ambivalent about the Apex trigger on the M2.0 series so I have skipped that for now. They look good for social media but I built this to be a fighting gun. Some time ago I smoothed out the area beneath the trigger guard for my middle finger to stop giving myself callouses from how tightly I grip the gun, and I added some very simple, functional "indexing points" on for my support hand thumb. I wasn't trying to win any beauty pageants with that stuff, so if you think it looks like crap... good. I expect this cheap ole M&P to perform just as well as any of the guns that I have that were 3x as expensive as it. Talk about making a guy question his purchasing decisions.

  6. It’s amazing how wise those that predated some and whose words were incorporated into a certain book have fallen on deaf ears. The lessons of history are clear. We have thousands of years of experience, yet everyone want to reinvent the wheel.

  8. I do not respond much on TGO about controversial subjects, but tonight I must. Our "President" has made a mockery of COVID-19. At various times he has said it was not real, disagreed with the CDC, and has made a political statement of NOT wearing a mask. And as of tonight, it has all bitten him in the ass. I wish Trump the best in terms of his personal health. At the same time, we have come full circle as a country who said COVID was a political hack to the President going to Walter Reed. It's time for sane and realistic thinking to take place and leave politics out of it.

  9. Hlb 14, depends on how far you are towing. Are you making a 400 mile roundtrip each day or 50 miles. I know for a fact that diesels will tow the load, but if they break, they will break your pocketbook. Put the pencil to it. To change oil & filter on a gas burner $50, diesel $150. A good diesel pickup mechanic is difficult to find and expensive when you find him. I had a dually F-350 diesel and it was great old powerstroke. You couldn't give me a new one, they have so many sensors and junk plus the def fluid. I put the pencil to it and you had to keep it and drive 300,000 miles before it was cheaper to own the diesel.

  10. I've owned a 4" blue Ruger Security Six for many years. Great gun! I've had a 2.75" model on my wish list for more years than I care to count. The darn things are hard to come by and often sell at ridiculous prices. About a week ago, one popped up on the local Armslist. I sent the guy an e-mail, but unfortunately had to leave for a doctor's appointment. By the time I got back, it was gone. Likewise, I found a nice blue one on GB just a few days ago. It ended up selling for way more than I was willing to give. But this morning I finally scored! Another one popped up on Armslist. Surprised me because two in as many weeks is unheard of. In fact, these are the first Security Sixs listed in over a year. I texted the guy, we made arrangements and I came home with this. It came with Pachmyer Grippers on it. I hate those. I dug around in the wood pile and came up with a set of factory targets. The pic doesn't really show it, but they're rough as a cob. Oh well, they'll do until I can find something better. I really would have preferred a blue gun, but beggars can't be choosers. I'm happy with it! Anyway, I hope to get it to the range soon. Range report pending.

  11. Great news. The first clinical trial on vitamin D and COVID 19 just reported that vitamin D provides a tremendous benefit. The study of 76 COVID patients put 50 in the vitamin D group and 26 in the control group. In the 26 control patients, 13 (50%) were admitted into ICU and 2 (7.7%) died. In the 50 vitamin D patients, only 2 (4%) were admitted into ICU and none died. . I've been saying for months that vitamin D was part of the answer and now we have proof. Vitamin. D. only. costs. six. cents. a. day! Please share this on Facebook and all other forums you're on. We need to get the word out. https://medium.com/microbial-instincts/the-first-clinical-trial-to-support-vitamin-d-therapy-for-covid-19-906a9d907468

  13. I saw this yesterday myself. Woman behind the checkout counter was defending the price to a customer who commented that it seemed mighty high. As a defender of the free enterprise system and the open marketplace, I don't hate gougers for taking advantage of the law of supply and demand when it's in their favor. Neither do I have sympathy for them when the tide turns and customers remember their friends.... Cheers, Whisper

  15. Just picked up a new smoke pole for muzzleloader this year. Was in Jamestown the other day and seen they had the CVA Optima V2 LR. Hadn't seen the model with the veil camo and thumbhole stock so I had to have it. It comes with the KonusPro scope in 3-9X40, very good glass and eye relief for a budget scope. Picked up some 777 pellets, federal primers and some Traditions Smackdown 250gr bullets for sight in. I've always used the Hornady XTP but didn't have no more on hand but got some coming in the mail. So far very pleased with the gun. Here's the first 4 shots outta the gun at 75yds, it grouped those Traditions bullet's pretty good, under 1in at 75yds. All my other CVA guns like the Hornday XTP so I'm going to assume this one will also. But I've never tried the Traditions Smackdown Carnivores before so might give them a try this season.

  16. On Monday, Sept 21, we will be milling and paving at the intersection of SR25 and US231 (Payne’s Store) from 8:30am till 3pm. There will be traffic delays. Please seek an alternate route or else have some patience. Please pass this along to friends and relatives. Thanks.

  18. Range Report: Just got back from the range. First thing I discovered was that the previous owner had the rear sight cranked all the way down. But once I got it adjusted, all was well. I put about 150 rounds through it. A mixed bag ranging from .38 Specials to full house .357s. No problems. In fact the gun is kinda boring. Goes bang every time and hits where pointed. Although I do tend to pull right just a bit in DA shooting. But, I was planning to change the grips anyway and that should fix that. Overall, I'm very pleased with it.

  20. Triggers are no doubt highly subjective. I think I better understand the social media comment with the choice on the AL shoe flatty. That combo with the forward sear likely locks you in to a much narrower window. I like the poly curved AE shoe myself, I dont go for flash versions unless there are no options, like their FN shoe. Not only is the M&P poly inconspicuous, but allows you to use an Apex 1.0 sear which opens up the options a bit more. Maybe not everyone enjoys dipping fries in a milkshake, its sounds wrong but tastes good.

  28. Oh, he ain't gonna be out of circulation unless the virus forces the issue. I'll have to disagree with your thoughts here, no way his advisors want him stuck in the residence on a reduced schedule with nothing to do but tweet and call into Fox News shows during the lull. Think "executive time" galore.

  33. I've used several e-muffs for years, and I must say I like them. I have several pair of Peltor that I use for shooting and when I did yard work. They are big enough to fit over my dumbo ears without problems. I am looking at hearing aids, or will be soon. Got checked a couple weeks ago and sure enough moderate to advanced lose in both ears. Won't be long now. I'll hold out as long as I can...good excuse when I ignore my wife. lol

  34. I’m sure I’ve said this before, but here it goes again. I do agree with you on this position 100%. The problem is that as long as the local and federal authorities are standing down, more and more average folks (usually dumb kids without much sense) will feel the call to stand in their stead. What happened was only the natural outcome of police inaction. Good folks will only take so much of having their towns and businesses destroyed before they start taking matters into their own hands. The problem is they don’t have all tools at their disposal as LE. That means they’re going to use the only hammer in their bag. That’s not good for anyone.

  38. When the 22 shortage hit a few years ago me and my teenage son seen the exact thing happen at walmart with them being on the phone posting them for sale immediately. So us both being night owls anyways would go there way early and spoil their fun buying the big bulk packs instead of them. We'd get off work at midnight, play games on the PlayStation or watch TV, head out at 6am and be sitting there watching Netflix on my phone, when they arrived grabbing chairs from sporting goods. We'd bag the buy then head home to sleep. They at first acted extremely annoyed that we were cutting into their business and tried to cut the line but the sporting goods manager knew what we were up to the first day after talking to us and shut that down hard. It became a fun game three times a week, over the next three weeks. They tried to one up us the second week and came in at 6:15 but we were already there, so we came in at 5 the next time and they came in at 6 and asked where they had been. We told them we was late due to stopping at the waffle house and was hoping they hadn't got there first. The annoyance to them and lesson to my son was worth the time, and the entertainment of their frustration was well worth it. It got to be more fun then watching TV etc just to screw them over. We ended up giving a bunch of it away at the time or selling at cost to people with kids.

  39. So they make $20 box per. My time is and gas is worth way more than 6 hours of labor for $20 and if retired, 6 hours is worth more than $20 Poor retirement planning? Tired of eating cat food? Jackoffs whose retirement revolves around the thrill of making $20 or taking advantage of folks? Sad and pitiful.
