I have 20 acres now and decided I need to shoot a lot more. I decided I wanted a lil place to play all to myself. I spent several weeks walking around in the wooded area and have found a spot that is great 50yrds for pistol. As I got to looking at this more I think I might be able to get 125yrds for rifle. So I started clearing some of the brush out of the way. I’ve got a friend with a plasma table and he’s checking on some 1/4 sheet ar500. I’ll post pics as I get things done. I want this to be nice so any input is welcome good or bad..... by all means say something if it’s bad.2 points

If you like a SBR, whats not to love about a handy 6.5 lb mini sized gun that can still reach out fairly well in a mid cal. With an Enhanced permit, this is a no brainer in the cool toy category. The barrel is 10.5 SS Wylde chambered from Bear Creek Armory. Originaly, I thought you might loose too much velocity and thought a 12" might be best but the 10.5 caught my eye at just over 100 bucks and it only looses about 200 fps from a 16' barrel. The $47 handguard is from Wish and I really like it. One thing that is a super tabo for me is a stock that is not rock solid. This SBM4 unit is a slip on and it would have needed a lot of tape on a round pistol spring tube to come close to being non movable. The fix was to put an old fixed stock tube (no position holes) in the lathe and turn the bottom rib down to make it only about 1/8th high on the tube body. Also, you can see I milled a rectangular hole in the bottom of the brace. This hole matches a higher part of the tube rib that pops up threw that hard rubber hole I milled. Now this fixed SBM4 brace is like welded to the tube. The SBM4 brace does infact have a very comfy wide cheek surface for those that would tempt ones luck and not be seen by a federally as you might shoulder a quick shot. The little guns balance point is at the forward portion of the mag well. Needless to say, it swings up and points exceptionally well with the pop up sights. I like this configuration so much, I started putting parts together for a copy of this one but it will run a finned Thompson SMG barrel inside the same hand guard and feed off grease gun mags. That should be a fun project.2 points

This type thing mostly devalues a vehicle. If I see a wad of wires hanging from under the dash or a lift kit, I’m out. BubbA ain’t likely to improve upon the performance designed by actual mechanical engineers.2 points

This argument doesn’t sound any less ridiculous in this context than when the Bloomberg shills try to use it to claim that the 2A only covers muskets. If you have to jump through hoops and ask for government permission to exercise a right, it isn’t a right.2 points

Carrying a gun is a constitutional right and a natural right, even though this state doesn’t see it that way. It is a persons own responsibility to be trained to deal with a deadly force situation. The CCP was put in place for those that can’t afford training. The HCP class is not a training class and many can’t afford real training classes that runs hundreds of dollars for the class and ammo. But many of them can still get trained by friends or family. They have the personal responsibility to get trained, and we have no idea how many do. Are untrained people shooting others a big problem? I don’t know. I know that many instances of bad shoots or negligent shootings come from those that have been trained. Again, its what the number crunchers desire the numbers to show. My thoughts come from my experience of dealing with the victims of violence that needed the immediate ability to carry a gun, in a state that would not allow that, trained or not.2 points

While on the road in Alabama, I stopped in at Hoover Tactical... I had just started my research into the world of semi auto .308 rifles, so was just looking. Ended up with walking out with an HK91 When I saw it, I assumed it was a PTR91 or Century C308; both of which I've handled at Bud's and wasn't a fan. Salesman says, "it's a real one." "A real one what?" "Not a clone or kit, it's nice, here, check it out." I agonized over the decision and justified through, "they ain't making them anymore, they are desirable, it should appreciate, and I know a guy who would probably sell one of his damaged kidneys if I had to sell in a pinch." It's LNIB, except for some marring around the election port. Round count has to be low, there is still finish on the tip of the firing pin and breech face shows no wear. There is little noticeable wear on the metal on metal bits that slide. Came with the test fire docs, dated 10 Nov 1980, unused cleaning kit, manual, shell deflector (? - it's the part in the pic below the stock) sling and 6 mags. Spent way more than I had budgeted, I thought a Springfield M1A variant was iny future. I think I need a bipod.1 point
-
Bought a bipod from them, had to have it. Planning a glamour shot. @Cruel Hand Luke proved the irons work at 150 on a 1/3 steel silhouette. Other than being 100% designed with right hand operation in mind, I'm glad I bought it.1 point

Does the cylinder turn? Will the hammer cock? As said, it could be the ejector rod or just dried gunk. Along with removing the thumb piece and spraying there. also cock the hammer and spray into the frame. Use a good cleaner like Gun Scrubber and hose it down good. Let it sit for a while and then try it. Also check to see that the hammer is in the full rest position. If the hammer is back just a little, it blocks the cylinder release and it won't open. Look closely at the end of the ejector rod. Does it appear to be touching the forward lock? It shouldn't be. It should be close but not actually touching. Hold the end of the ejector and rotate the cylinder to tighten. NOTE: THIS IS A LEFT HANDED THREAD. Let us know if this works or not.1 point

The word "Gay" in 1895 had a very different meaning than it did by 1995. And the people in 1895 viewed the word and the connotations differently than someone in 1995 because over time the meaning changed in popular culture. The people in 1895 had a completely different understanding of the word, its meaning and the nuance of it. Just like the culture of America has changed since 1787. Things change and we lose the original meaning and nuance of words because no one is still around from then and all we have is the written word left behind by folks in letters and documents. The subordinate clause of the amendment IS them mentioning trained and well armed citizens (not a standing army) being the best way to maintain the security and freedom of the state . They didn’t have a brain fart....they wrote it into the amendment but we don’t use the word “regulated” they way now as they did then and it does not have the same connotation it did back then. Militias who fought Indians in the woods of western Pennsylvania were not at all well suited to fighting using European battlefield tactics. It wasn't that they were not necessarily functional as fighting units it is that you don't fight the British on Bunker Hill like you fight the Cherokee in western North Carolina. Your western NC militia attached to Washington’s regulars needed to know how to work WITH the regular troops and know how to maintain formations and maneuver. My 5th greatgrandfather was one of the Watauga settlers and fought under John Sevier at Kings Mountain . And they didn’t fight anything like Washington’s regulars did . So the militia units that Washington complained about had to be retrained to fight the way Washington needed them to fight in European style engagements. Jackson was shot by soldiers who had just been shooting enemy soldiers that day and were on the lookout for more enemy soldiers to shoot. They were expecting enemy soldiers to come from that direction. Even with the riots we are not yet to the point we are manning checkpoints waiting to shoot folks. So that's a bit of a stretch to compare the intentional but mistaken identity shooting of Jackson to any kind of CCW or even at home gun ownership negative outcome. Look I'm not arguing that you should be compelled by anyone to do anything. Do what you want. In a perfect world I would just prefer that people know how to safely handle guns before they be carrying them on their person in public when I and my family might be down range from them. And do people who have had training occasionally make bad decisions? Some times. But I see far more unsafe gun handling and negligent discharges happen at public ranges among untrained folks than I do among folks who have been exposed to some education in safe gun handling. So I think it is a bit fallacious to argue that because in SOME instances trained people have made mistakes that it somehow negates the benefits of training altogether. I'm merely giving historical context to an argument that we make now, that would have been foreign to the people who lived back then. I’m not saying they didn’t see it as an individual right either. The militia is made up of individual citizens using their personally owned MILITARY GRADE firearms in order to come together and fight enemies of the state both foreign and domestic. It absolutely is an Individual right. I'm not in any way arguing against the 2A. I personally believe that you should be able to own ANY firearm (machine guns, SBR , SBS, etc. ) you can afford and shoot it on your own property. Just like you can buy any car you can afford and drive it on your own property without having to even have a tag or registration. But if you are going to carry it on the street (or drive it on the street) then you need to know how to safely operate the car or the gun. And don't even throw up the tired old "driving is a privilege not a right " argument. I'm saying that we all agree it is a good idea to teach people how to drive before they get on the interstate and cause potentially fatal wrecks because it is the smart thing to do . But then we say they should be able to buy a gun and carry it while remaining willfully ignorant of best gun safety practices and marksmanship training ? Does that even make sense? And before anyone tries to question my bona fides as far as 2A support I am a long time NRA member, have carried a gun on my person essentially every day for over 25 years. I have voted for pro 2A candidates in every election since I turned 18. I bought my first machinegun before I bought my first car. I have worked in the shooting industry for over 20 years and have been a professional firearms instructor for 20 years. I have attended and been a presenter at national level training conferences and have been a world championship level competitor in IDPA. I have used a gun to defend myself. I'm pretty well educated in history and politics of the 2A but I also see the difference in theory and reality. So I'm not someone who is late to the party. Again I'm not arguing against the 2A or arguing to limit freedom.....I'm merely clarifying that what a lot of people think they know about the 2A is not always exactly correct when put in its correct historical context.1 point

I disagree. If forced training were a requirement then it would have been written as such. You can't convince me that the same Founding Fathers who wrote such well thought-out documents designing our government had a brain-fart when it came to that part of the 2nd Amendment. And while militias were prevalent you cannot convince me, without evidence, that the 16-year old male in New York City had the same expectations as the 16-year old male on the frontier facing the Shawnee. You also seem to forget that Washington had a hell of a time whipping his "militia-trained" citizen soldiers into fighting shape. If they were so well-trained they wouldn't have needed any further training. And during a war has absolutely NOTHING to do with getting shot by accident regardless of the fact that his people knew he was out scouting. You're suppose to 1. Identify your target before shooting, and 2. Challenge people approaching the sentry line. According to some "trainers" that shouldn't happen. Again, I don't fault someone for making a living out of training those who want to purchase your service, but that doesn't entitle anyone to try to change the constitution to fit their belief system.1 point

The truth of the matter is that you do, in fact, have the right to keep and bear arms... That said, it is on you to learn how to handle firearms safely and use em effectively if need be. One of the baser things about our capitalist system and the gun community and certain of those populating it is the tendency of " experts " to try to feather their business nests by proclaiming that " you aint responsible nor trained enough to handle a gun "... The inferred point us that they, in fact, are and they can help you for a FEE... This is called " salesmanship " and is OK... I say, in the old latin proverb: " Let the Buyer beware "... What aint OK is when those same " experts " lobby trashy polititians, local and otherwise, to enact laws restricting a constitutional right under the guise of " making us all safer "... I heartily join Brother Dave in his opinion that there are folks out there who need protection from thugs n predators now; many of whom aint overrun with extra dollars for " mandated training "... " Mandated training " is a crock in today's atmosphere and the Tennessee political class well knows it. Personal safety is the supreme thought on every citizen and citizen gun owner's mind now. Welcome to Dodge City, where everybody is armed and edgy. That is all... leroy1 point

Love it! I actually really like the C308 Sporter due to its having PTR Reciever and Barrel...probably the best bang for the buck 308 on the market but only because I can't afford the real deal...super jealous! RTG and HKparts have some really awesome side folders you might want to look into that are actually affordable...the OG slide in's are however way up there these days.1 point

Ditto. What I did was get the regular permit, then when it was about to expire, I upgraded it to lifetime. I wanted the lifetime, but I believe as a new transplant from Yankeedom, they wouldn't let me. Since the OP has had one previously, might be otherwise? Regardless, you go down to a UPS store nearby and get fingerprinted in like 10 minutes, its digital, painless, no ink.1 point

This case is worth watching as it hits on some things that not many involved in firearms social media are likely to be innocent of themselves. Jake Gardner, a white bar owner in Nebraska, has been indicted by an Omaha, NE grand jury for killing James Scurlock, a young black man during a BLM protest in June of 2020. The grand jury determined on Tuesday that Jake Gardner, 38, will face four charges including manslaughter, attempted first-degree assault, use of a firearm, and terror threats. Part of the justification from the grand jury came from things that Gardner had posted on his own Facebook wall prior to ever coming into contact with the victim. "There was evidence that was gathered and presented to the grand jury about activity that Jake Gardner was engaged in prior to even coming in contact with James Scurlock," said Special Prosecutor Frederick Franklin. "Evidence to reasonably be construed as an intent to use a firearm for purposes of killing someone," he continued. "You will want to know what it is, and I can't tell you about it. But what I can tell you is that that evidence comes primarily from Jake Gardner himself." Reportedly Gardner had shared on social media FBI statistics and a screenshot of the President saying “When the looting starts, the shooting starts”. Again, this before he ever encountered Scurlock. As we often remind people here on TGO, the Internet has a very long and indelible memory. We advise that you not say anything here that you wouldn't want read back to you in court. Oh I completely agree. I'm not exaggerating when I say I plan to keep this truck forever. I've spent over $10k building it to my specifications. I had no intentions of selling to Carvana. I just wanted to see what they offered. Obligatory truck pics.1 point

I want folks to be responsible with firearms as well. I don’t want the government to be able to arbitrarily decide what that looks like. Just the same as with speech. Folks are responsible for their actions with a firearm or their speech. Prior restraint by the government is an abomination and anathema to liberty and the individual’s rights.1 point

Really? Where is that in the Constitution? I seem to recall lots of pictures/paintings of the period, and not a one of them included a HCP or similar.1 point

That Cash for Clunkers always pissed me off. Not because they gave people cash, but because the "clunkers" has to be rendered inoperable by something like putting liquid glass in the engine and running it a few minutes to destroy the engine. Then they had to be crushed. Lots and lots of good spare parts went down the tube. Now try finding a decent size junk yard with a large stock of anything in the last 20 years is a wild goose chase. On top of that a lot of the "clunkers" that ended up coming in were not the low gas mileage units they wanted off the road. Or they were running just enough to get on the lot instead of to the scrap yard. Basically the program did little except to give the car industry sales and feed the steel scrap to China.1 point

Yes I have been out to the range. Just have not gotten around talking about it. I can say this revolver has the best trigger I have ever shot on a so called stock revolver. You have to pay a lot of money to get a trigger as good as this gun has. I shot both .357 Magnum and .38 Specials out of the gun. The .38's were like shooting 22's and the .357 Magnum's shot very well also.1 point

Keep in mind the used vehicle market right now is madness. Inventory is slim and prices are high. I'm watching some of the guys on Tacoma World state that Carvana is offering them more than they paid 3 years ago(new) for their 2017-2018. Yes, you read that right. They are getting offers to sell their trucks for more than they paid new.1 point

Freedom means assumed risks, like those who probably shouldn't be carrying firearms if they choose. I don't see the situation getting better, but I have to be willing to assume that risk if I believe everybody in compliance with our rules as a society has the right to keep and bear arms.1 point

Black Hills 175 gr. .308 match has given me the best results. I've never tried any steel cased ammo, I've always used brass cased. I've run a bunch of surplus Portuguese NATO 7.62 with decent results, and the surplus ammo will bring down a deer very nicely.. At least two trees have been cut down due to the H&K. That's the only down side, it's possible to run through lots of ammo in an afternoon, but the gun always brings a smile to my face. Back in the early 80's I showed up to deer camp with it, and this was way before AR's were popular. My fellow hunters couldn't understand why anyone would carry such a gun. And they definitely didn't like the H&K slap, geez that's part of the fun of owning a H&K rifle. I ran iron sights too, still do, as the scope mounts are pricey. Enjoy the gun, it's definitely a classic!1 point
