Well that isn't exactly true. It was the USA's first smokeless cartridge. In 1886 Paul Vieille invented smokeless gunpowder and the 8x50mmr Lebel round known as the 8x51 Lebel was first adopted round by a country. But I thought the 30-30 was first also. I think the 8x50 mmR which the R stands for rimmed was basically obsolete after WWI. I also found that every 3-5 years Fiocchi made some in the past. I have always said have guns chambered in calibers that you can go into any LGS or country store and buy some.4 points

Today, the 30-30 has gained the reputation as a slow, incapable, and outdated cartridge. Truth is that it is just as accurate and deadly as it was 125 years ago. I do not believe North America has produced a creature that can’t be reliably taken with the old 170 grain Silvertip load. What actually happened is that we have largely become slow, incapable hunters expecting our gear to make up for our shortcomings.3 points

“Zero Tolerance” has never, and will never work. It is used by those too stupid or too lazy to do their jobs and make their own decisions.3 points

My opinion is that the .30-30 is for hunters. High velocity magnums are for “shooters”. Those with experience know, the .30-30 performs better than it should judging off of ballistic numbers.2 points

Bought 75-5/4 X 8' a month ago @ Lowes for $4.89 Ea, went to pick up 2 yesterday & they were $11.87 Ea. Lumber man said it was only going to get worse, glad I really didn't need them.1 point

NO!! I am NOT liberal! I’m flag waving, gun Toting, red white and blue tax paying old guy. Heard about this place from another member and since my last gun forum place seems to have shut down, I’m looking for a new home. Most likely lurk on the sidelines for a few days then start posting! Gonna go read the rules now.1 point

Hi guys & gals. I am by no means an authority on this, and almost missed this. The August 1895 Winchester catalog #55 seems to be the first time the .30WCF was mentioned. WCF standing for Winchester Center Fire, AKA 30-30. This was first debuted in the model 1894 Winchester. John Marlin adapted his model 1893 to shoot this new cartridge and it seems his was the first time it was referred to as the 30-30. The inaugural factory loads were 160 gr. bullet at about 1900 fps. Just thought as much as the 30-30 has done for hunting, we should all be reminded. The 30-30 has probably killed some of all of North America's game including Bison, large bears, elk and is best suited for whitetail deer.1 point

In Denver right now, most stores require masks, many have private security at the doors for troublemakers. But once inside, nobody bothers you if it's on your chin, as mine is most times. Outside, only a few, though its smoky as heck, with falling ash, due to the wildfires. I noticed on the way here that the hysteria is mostly in the cities, the rural areas are more relaxed about it.1 point

I must admit that tend to yawn at the thought of lever actions chambered in 30-30, but I have always wanted a bolt action in 30-30, like the old Stevens 325. I’ve always thought that the 30-30 with a spitter type bullet would be a great round and a fairly mild shooter.1 point

Took it this afternoon and ran a couple of magazines through it. It’s very accurate! I could keep them in an inch at 7 yards. However, after the first 5 rounds, I started having issues with extraction. These are known to have tight chambers. The second mag was no better. In fact it got worse, with unshot rounds not chambering. I’m going to give it a good cleaning and oiling and look for some hotter rounds. I was using standard velocity rounds.1 point

Looks like I need to go to Miami. I’ve been wanting one of those tickets from somewhere, anywhere. This far I’ve not managed to get one. It’s disappointing.1 point

1976 guns. I was told they had paperwork, but who knows. I'll keep trying to get a DIAS.1 point

Good for you Johnny. Much respect for police.... but arrogant asses like that need to have their $hit re-adjusted by their employer from time to time. Should have called the ATF for him and had them look at those modded M16s. I'm SURE he's got his stamp in order. - K1 point

I always love these threads. You have someone from out of state asking about shooting on their own property outside the city limits (usually from a commie state). They are invariably met with confusion as everyone from here is basically like “why couldn’t you? It’s your property.”1 point

Finally got to my mailbox to pick mine up. The knife is light, and very handy. The sheath is crap, but era correct. I’m quite happy with it. I’m probably gonna have a kydex sheath made for it that’ll mate up to my plate carrier.1 point

IMHO the state doesn’t need to be involved; that would simply end with banning discharging a firearm anywhere other than rural areas. However, cities, towns and counties should publish their firearms laws. Hawkins County may have done that, but they aren’t making it easy to find.1 point

I’ve got one 6.5CM bolt gun (Bergara B-14 HMR) and I adore it. I’ve shot a 6.5CM AR before and it was really nice as well. The cartridge performs in either platform so I think that’s a matter of personal preference. If you have the builder’s itch, go AR. If you decide on a bolt gun, take a look at the Bergara, it’s a magnificent rifle and I think you’ll love it every bit as much as me and all my friends that have them.1 point

I couldn't find the thread about a teacher spotting a BB gun in the background of her virtual class but here's another one. A 12-year-old boy in Colorado got a five-day suspension for flashing a toy gun across his computer screen during an online art class, according to a report. https://www.foxnews.com/us/12-year-old-suspended-after-teacher-spots-toy-gun-during-virtual-class0 points

You know I should have learned after 49+ years of marriage training to keep my mouth shut. I have really messed up so many times from having an opportunity to be quiet, but didn't. I meant no disrespect Garufa, I always thought the 30-30 was the first smokeless cartridge also. Just having fun, sorry to bring out into the open your entire life being a lie!! LOL0 points

We bought 4x4x8s back in May for $8. Bought one Saturday for $19 at Lowe’s. Talk about pissed off!!!0 points

I didn't make that statement because I figured some obscure foreign cartridge might have beat it to market by a few days.0 points
