Any of you who didn't know Marswolf when he was among us... Y'all would have either loved him or hated him. Shannon was an OG badass who up until the very end was serving the country for a few different alphabet soup agencies, doing some really bad things to some really bad people. AND he had great taste in music, could make me laugh like almost no other, and was just a hell of a good guy that I think of often. I'll be pouring a glass of something good tonight and raising it not only in his honor, but in the honor of the others here that we've lost too soon. We may not realize it, but we are definitely diminished each time one of our ranks sets sail for distant shores.8 points

Well, let's hope this list isn't added to anytime soon.6 points

I am setting up a new category of member that will be used strictly to memorialize our fallen / dearly departed friends. Thankfully the number of departed is mercifully low for as long as TGO has been around and as many members as we have, but I do not want to risk these accounts and their contributions to the forum ever being lost to a routine "purge" of inactive accounts. Can you help us remember who all should be moved to this group?3 points

My friend Mousegunner, Dr. Marshal St. John’s, departed us in 2011. He had only been interested in firearms for about 15 years but researched and contributed a lot to our hobby. I really miss his wisdom. He was an all around wonderful man. I frequently handle newly released firearms and think how much he would have enjoyed many of them. I just looked, Mousegunner’s last login was nine years ago today!3 points

Only if you can remember topics he participated in. We're hoping you guys can help us remember them. I also added MouseGunner to the group.3 points

If you decide to go folding, I don't think there are many better options than the Magpul MBUS Pro.3 points

Thanks for the very public votes of confidence @TGO David & @MacGyver. I hate that a misunderstanding about the post led to a long time member getting banned. Only the initial misunderstanding though, his actions after that were on him. To everyone else, I always make calls based on what I think is best for this community. I am a human and therefore fallible. If you think I made a mistake, have a question for me, shoot me a PM. I’ll be happy to hear you out. That’s not me trying to justify or explain myself to y’all. I’m confident in my role here. I just want y’all to know I really value y’all. This community here is responsible for my closest friendships on this planet. Seriously, the group of friends I talk to every single day I made here. Y’all are important to me, even those I butt heads with. This place is a real community, so keep that in mind and take care of each other.2 points

The Trump Administration opened another 2.3 million acres of public land for hunting and fishing on Tuesday. Fox News reported that the newly available acreage is being “touted as the largest historic expansion of its kind.” It represents the “single largest” expansion of hunting and fishing opportunities to occur throughout the history of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The new access opens up hunting and fishing opportunities at “138 national wildlife refuges and 9 national fish hatcheries.” The Hill reported Bernhardt released a statement in which he said, “We continue to take significant actions to further conservation initiatives and support sportsmen and women who are America’s true conservationists.” The new hunting and fishing opportunities are “scattered across nearly every state and include parts of the Everglades in Florida, the Lower Rio Grande Valley National Wildlife Refuge in Texas and the Flint Hills National Wildlife Refuge in Kansas.” https://www.breitbart.com/sports/2020/08/19/trump-admin-makes-additional-2-3-mil-acres-available-hunting-fishing/2 points

She's a good comrade doing what comrades do best; use rules in new ways to punish people she disagrees with. I agree. That would piss me off as a parent too.2 points

Sent my CZ75B Compact barrel about 10 days ago to get it refinished in CP II. Got it back today and it is very nicely done. $70 total for shipping both ways, insurance both ways ($200) and work done. I would use them again for firearms refinishing work. If any questions contact Brad Cummings at CCR in Greeneville, TN. Sorry folks I don't do pictures.2 points

Sort of on this topic.... my wife got me a Postive Grid Spark for my birthday about a month ago. What a cool little amp. I've never been a pedal guy, just plugged into the amp and made the best of it. The Spark is a game changer... I think they should have named it Chameleon. There's so much there, hours can quickly disappear into the void of fiddling with settings.2 points

That POW/MIA image was the profile pic that Marswolf used. It wasn’t changed, just the title underneath that says “In Memoriam” was added. In case you don’t know who Marswolf was, he was a Vietnam Vet and much beloved member of the community that’s been gone for just over a decade now.2 points

I like the idea, but I respectfully request another image be selected for this group as I think the current one should be left for our folks that were left behind. Maybe something like this??2 points

Most warnings on TGO are just that - sort of a timeout to cool down a bit. They’re temporary because the vast majority of people are able to check themselves in a setting that doesn’t lend itself well to nuanced expressions. The actions taken on the original thread were appropriate. It looked like a questionable sales ad - or a vendor trying to skirt the rules. The OP kind of lost it and made his demands regarding our staffing, board rules, etc. David said no. We moved on - until the thread this morning. We make decisions on moderators based on folks we think add to the community - and who are level headed. @Chucktshoes is such a benefit to this community. He is beyond tolerant of such diversity of opinions . He’s on a ton. He closed the thread - and like he said, all of this could have been avoided with a simple PM. Our mods do this out of the goodness of their hearts and their love of this community. Were in such crazy times. It’s a marathon not a sprint right now. Take a good deep breath. We don’t need anyone puking all over their shoes a couple months from now.2 points

Publicly I just want to say that I really appreciate everyhting you do for TGO. Your record is above reproach as far as I'm concerned.2 points

Having spent many years in retail followed by my years as a truck driver, I can attest to this being 100% on point. As far as the situation at hand goes, I greatly value the folks who support this place by helping keep the lights on and will protect the privileges they hold from those who try to get a free ride. Sometimes it makes folks mad. They can be mad.2 points

Honestly it blows my mind that anyone within the 55-75 age bracket can rationalize acting so damned immature when it comes to things like this. Dealing with the publc in some capacity my entire adult life has made it impossible to get behind the idea that only millennials are snowflakes. There are too many grown-assed adults who expect special treatment and stick their bottom lips out like they're trying to provide a perch for a bird to sit on.2 points

This makes my blood boil. I'm not one that normally thinks of law suits but I believe this would change my mind if it happened to me and my child. (This was back in June) A Baltimore County, Md., fifth-grader got a visit from the police after his teacher called to report that she had seen a BB gun on the wall behind the student during a class video call. The principal and the teacher cited a rule stating that students may not bring guns to school and claimed it extended to virtual classes as well, Sperry said, adding that the school handbook does not address rules for virtual learning at all. https://pjmedia.com/news-and-politics/paula-bolyard/2020/06/11/teacher-spying-on-student-during-virtual-class-sends-cops-to-search-11-year-olds-home-after-spotting-a-bb-gun-n5186791 point

When I left high school, I felt the same way. Wasn't part of any popular group and really didn't fit in. My folks were just blue collar workers and I didn't make the cut. I started to do a public FO! to them all, but some semblance of sense came in and stopped me from doing it. Some 30 years later, I ran into a few of them and started a conversation. I won't say we became instant buds, but I have managed to get a few good people I can talk with from that group now. Even giving some thought to moving back to that little community. My remaining family is there, and my wife is the last of her family but for her step-mother. Might just happen. If we all survive this current mess. So sometimes things do change for the better.1 point

I've added a few more Gretsch instruments to the stable since my previous post-- First, a 1942 Gretsch Synchromatic 100. All original except for the replacement tailpiece (I still have the original broken tailpiece). This thing just sings. Next, a Gretsch G9241 A/E biscuit-bridge Resonator-- I love my Gretsch Park Avenue mandolin so much that I hunted down another one as a "back-up". (older one is lighter sunburst, newer one is darker sunburst)-- Also added another Gretsch mandolin-- an A-body this time-- Gretsch New Yorker A/E Deluxe-- And finally, A Gretsch 5622 centerblock (semi-hollow) model. And a few more action shots from the last couple of years--1 point

That's the issue, you never know what it was designed in to start with after the conversion. Maybe print it out and give me some measurements to confirm. It is really easy for me to do an internal thread. I may do both just to try it and see how it goes. It may be a couple of days before I get to it, but I will do it. Lots going on at work right now.1 point

I don't shoot a lot of rifles, but I do own a few. One of my favorites was a Rossi 357 that I got in a strange 3-way deal in Knoxville several years ago. It's a joy to shoot, even when I can't shoot well. lol Wish it were a 44. But I'll echo the thought of keeping both.1 point

REI just put their brand new HQ that they spent the last two years building on the market. They never even used it. They’ve determined that they don’t need to keep folks in the office like they thought they did.1 point

I do want to clarify; The person in question actually wasn't advertising something without being a Benefactor, but it absolutely looked like it at surface level. When that happens, without being privy to all of the details, a moderator has to make an on-the-field judgment call. Most of the time they're right. Sometimes, in rare occasions, we find out that the post was benign. When that happens, it's usually very easily cleared up via a private message between parties. The way to clear it up isn't to launch an assault on the moderator or send me an ultimatum. I'm pretty intolerant of people who try to add stress to my life.1 point

Just reread your question. If you are looking for just irons and are wanting fixed I tend to like the Troy fixed irons the best.1 point
-
I had to decide this recently on the same caliber. I ended up with a dot with nice backup irons. A dot is so much faster (for me) than irons. A Sig Romeo5 is only $150 and easily solved the issue for me. I have magpul mbus pro irons. It’s a great setup.1 point

No I let my buddy make the sausage, I'll usually make pork chops and frying meat outta a couple hogs. Then take a couple to my buddy and have the whole thing made in sausage. Then when the meat gets low get back out and kill a few.1 point

Eh we kill so many on my lease it's nothing new, I keep them baited year round. But 50 yard shot outta a blind, with a Remington Model 7 in 7mm-08. I shot the big sow and Trevin got the smaller boar. We had been in the blind 20 minutes before they showed up.1 point

Physics being physics, you should probably reasonably expect a .40 caliber pistol to wear faster than a 9mm. That said, if you put 35-40K rounds through one to accomplish that you've probably earned a new one.1 point

Ok, Now we come to my pride & joy-- My Gretsch instruments. First Gretsch I ever owned-- 2002 G2619 Electromatic SparkleJet-- Sparkle finishes are incredibly difficult to capture in pics... Gretsch G2810 Bo Diddley Signature model-- The pickguard is custom-made, of my own design. Gretsch G5135 Corvette Gretsch G3156 Historic Series Streamliner Gretsch G5022C Jumbo Rancher--- this one goes with me to just about every gig. Gretsch Americana collection-- Gretsch released this series as a limited run in 2006, an homage to the various "cowboy" style guitars popular in the 40's and 50's. Four different designs, all parlor-sized (or cowboy-sized, if you prefer) Gretsch G2224 Electromatic Short Scale Bass Gretsch G6073 Bass Gretsch G9350 Park Avenue mandolin-- I've got a couple other mandolins, but this is my favorite for gigging by far. And no, that's not a "stock" photo. Gretsch G6130KPW Knotty Pine Roundup-- This is 1 of 9 factory prototypes, not a production model-- Gretsch did a production run of 75, but this one pre-dates the production run by about 6 months. Gretsch G6118T-125 125th Anniversary model And, my holy grail, my favorite guitar in my collection--- Gretsch G6196T Country Club model1 point

Ask and ye shall receive. Since I was AWOL when this thread was started, I'm gonna blow the dust off.... Unfortunately, I can't post a "family shot" of my instruments, because they don't make a wide-angle lens wide enough to get them all in one shot. Let's see-- I've got stuff all over the map... first, some vintage mid-60's Japanese oddballs-- by the way... these are all set-up in gig-able condition.... I don't keep "wall art" guitars. 1967 Teisco ET220 1965 Silvertone WG2L 1966 Kingston Chess 1966 Norma 1968 Norma 1967 Norma Violin model More posted in next post1 point
