  2. This year made my 2nd year ever fishing for Crappie and my best year of fishing for them. I might catch bigger later on but for Watts Bar these are dang good fish and my personal best. Dont know the weight just got the measurements. The black went 16 1/4in and 12.5in Girth. The white went 15in with a 12in girth. All I know is they sure are good to look at so the $310 was well spent. I used a old piece of barn wood and stained the edges with Minwax Red Mahogany 225 to get that burnt look on the outer edges. And used Cocunut Oil for the rest to keep the color lighter.

  5. If you ain't bleeding and the suspect ain't there you shouldn't expect the police to do much investigation. You might as well say that you'd walk away and blow it off.

  6. Depends on how serious the assault was. In this case I would have walked away and let the police handle it. It the assault was bad enough to do some serious damage then the gender of the assaulter does not matter.

  7. The behavior of the man shows how effective pepper spray can be. Clearly it's not particularly debilitating. Funny how she leaves right after. I suspect she will be charged with assault. As for beating her up... not a chance. That'll get you your own mug shot to go along with hers.

  8. Yeah, model 81 barrels are pretty much hens teeth. The very only option aside from buying an 81 is something I'v been thinking about. Numrich has Taurus model PT 57 barrels. That is a 32ACP barrel exactly like the 81 except its scaled up by about 20 percent. Iv been thinking about buying one and lathe turn and mill the smaller barrel dimensions out of it. Its a bit longer so it could be threaded and most of all, unlike the slightly loose Beretta barrel fit to frame, I could cut it to a press in friction fit to my frame, eliminating the wandering target hits all together. The other issue I'm trying to uncover is PTG makes the chamber reamer. The odd thing is on their web sight they list 2 different reamers. A standard 32NAA finisher and a 32NAA SAAMI spec reamer. I called them to see what the difference is and the woman said one "may not" be US made. Thats BS all PTG reamers are in house, so I emailed them the question. Nothing yet. The standard reamer is a bit oversized IMO with fired case expansion of .009 and a few cracked necks on the hornady fired casings. I'm hoping the SAAMI spec reamer is a bit tighter around the cartridge. That way, I could make a real "Target" barrel out of a PT57 barrel. IDK, what folks would pay for one but its a play project that might have some stumpy legs on it!

  15. Ran across a rifle and caliber combination that ive always liked for sale. Initial inspection points toward a Eddystone or comparable 1917 rebarreled to a 280 Remington based on the wide floorplate and the bolt but possibly a Mauser 93 after looking at the end of the bolt, safety and the trigger.. Bottom line, ive not seen it in person so im unsure but would be ok with either. I shot a 1917 Eddystone 30-06 for about 15 years before it was stolen , but Always heard the 280 was one of the best of both worlds. Anybody have any other suggestions on what this gun is if its not what I am thinking it is. I have not held it in my hands yet, but from the pictures, i think thats what it is. The young man that has it really has no clue what it is other than a 280. Also anybody with experience shooting the 280 Remington and reloading or can recommend their favorite ammo combo in it? I am use to shooting a 30-06 and love the versatility of it, but after 20 years, I figured i might try a different breed. Will be primarily a White Tail gun with the occasional elk and mule deer in its crosshairs. Recommendations ?

  17. I bet i've tried 5 or 6 different brands of .280 and this is the load I settled on as well. As a side bar, I bought for friends a .270 and a '06. Mounted scopes, did a break in, and shot multiple brands in both of those guns. Both shot the Cor Lok the best. Bought 10 boxes of same lot numbers and lived happily everafter.

  18. I’ve had trouble finding an inaccurate 280 load. The Remington 140 grain cor loct factory ammo is a very accurate round. The 140 grain bullet of your choice atop IMR 4350 powder is a great starting place for hand loading.

  19. It's a pretty big loss of face for them to have made that mistake. No big deal to you, kind of mortifying to them. You have a good group of testers here, I suspect. I'm looking forward to see what comes of the relationship.

  20. I have not seen gun manufacturers or ammo manufacturers raise their prices in any of these price jumps that gun owners created for themselves. Unscrupulous retailers do it; and people continue to buy from them. (I’ll bet CTD can sell all the ammo they can get, and no one was ever going to buy from them again) The good retailers just can’t keep ammo in stock. But the manufacturers can’t justify more manufacturing equipment, because this will end.

  21. There should be visible markings to tell you if it's a m1917 or a rare and desirable Remington Model 30. Either way, it was definitely re-barrelled. I don't know much about the .280 cartridge other than a brief read on the 'net. But the M1917 or 30 action is VERY strong and will allow very heavy loading of the cartridge.

  22. I don’t reload 280. I’ve tried various brands of ammo and routinely Remington Cor Lok has been the most accurate and of course easy to find.

  25. On a serious note, if you want practice driving under nods, I’ve heard of guys with very mild off road vehicles (think Jeep on 33s or anything else with 2 inch lift) going on trail rides on VERY easy trails at night and driving the trails under nods instead of using all their lights. I wouldn’t try driving under nods on a public road, anytime the lighting would be suitable, would be when it’s a higher possibility for a drunk driver to be out. I’d really hate to have to explain why you were driving total blackout and in that particular case, you just might end up being at fault instead of the drunk driver if he hit you. There are trails in TN that you can do in a stock 4x4 vehicle. I’ve even seen them done in a Subaru and Honda CRV

  26. A rifle and spotlight will pay big dividend's to the county and state if a game warden catches you. I know a couple guys that got caught by a Game Wardens. They lost 2 really nice rifles. A really nice truck and both went to jail to post bond. They didn't know they were also be followed by the game warden with his lights off and he didn't turn on his rollers and spot lights till they had to spot light on a deer and were just about to shoot and before they could he scared the pee out of both of them The both ended up with 11/29 in jail lost truck and firearms and $1000.00 fines. Oh yea also lost hunting privilege's for 5 years in TN and surrounding states. Like Forrest Gump said, Stupid is as Stupid does!!!

  28. Eight years ago, that would have been reasonable and logical common sense. Look at the people getting arrested and charged today with brandishing a weapon in self defense against the hostile social warriors and racists. Today in this pacifist climate, if you have to show a pistol, you best be the first one to call 9-1-1; because the criminal, social justice warrior or racist most likely will. Deep do do and expense... If you're in a bad neighborhood with witnesses, whom do you suppose those 'witnesses' are going to side with? Personally speaking; in this new social warrior climate with pacifying, justifying and condoning criminal assault and aggression, I'll have second thoughts showing a handgun. The liberal news media and government officials have already convicted and branded you even prior to the facts coming out. Our country is in deep moral, social and legal trouble like never before.

  33. Classic old west gun fighter, Josey Wales style.... One .44 on each leg. Another gun belt with 2 more .44's across the front of the saddle. Shoulder holster with a .38. Saddle scabbards with 2 lever guns and a shotgun. Good to go. Or whatever you're inclined to carry. I would think you'd need reasonable retention so things wouldn't bounce away.

  34. Conspiracy Theories, Coronavirus, TGO and YOU For as long as I can remember, TGO has never really provided "safe waters" for people who want to preach conspiracy theories and rile-up the masses. There are plenty of places for that sort of thing on the Internet and yes sometimes the conspiracy enthusiasts (or nuts, if you so prefer) are proven right in the end. But since there are so many other places for it and since we feel that the ravings of fringe believers tends to bring down the property value, we prefer that our members engage in discussions based in reality. Lately the moderators have begun removing posts fanning the flames of conspiracy around the COVID-19 novel coronavirus pandemic. Generally speaking, I am supportive of their actions. Here's why: Priorities First and foremost, we have a present problem to deal with so let's start by putting our focus there. We have members who are and have been personally affected by COVID-19 and chances are this is just the beginning. If we are going to invest our mental and emotional energies into something, let's invest them in encouraging, supporting and helping our own community. Respect Again, we know that we already have members of TGO affected by this pandemic. So far they (and we) have been fortunate and it's turned out well. That could change. We don't want that to happen, but the statistical projections indicate that by the time the dust settles none of us will have many degrees of separation from someone that died as a result of the virus. I just think maybe it's a little disrespectful to the people currently fighting this virus and eventually to those who lose the battle for us to sit around and imagineer boogeymen behind a virus that science currently says evolved naturally. Stay In Your Lane, Bro Following right in behind the matter of respect is the simple fact that unless you're an educated, degreed, certified ass-kicking virologist, geneticist, research scientist, or have data from a respected source that is... you should probably stay in your lane. Remember the Great Toilet Paper Shortage of 2020? That happened because social media said there was a shortage of toilet paper. So the people believed it, reacted like scared sheep, and ran right over the edge of the cliff with arms full of Charmin. There's no reason for us to allow the next big social media fear-fest to start with or take root on TGO. We can control what happens here, so our intent is to manage it so that there's at least one place you can visit online that doesn't feel like the lunatics are running the asylum. You're welcome for that. Even if you don't appreciate it right now. And So What If That Conspiracy Theory Is Accurate? The President, love him or hate him, has already said that there are going to be consequences on the other side of this current situation for the way that China mishandled this. Even if they didn't bio-engineer it, their government hid the outbreak from the world until it was busting out of their borders. So far the Prez has done everything he's said he would do... right or wrong... so we can be pretty confident that the US isn't going to just let this slide. So, even if the latest conspiracy theory is accurate... you and I can't do a thing about it. Establishing and maintaining a military to preserve our sovereignty, the strength of our borders, and the security of our interests is the one thing that the government should be doing. It's maybe the only reason the government should exist if you ask some. But they are equipped to do something about it. Not us. Not even Chuck Norris. Let's let the government handle the boogeyman. And if they need our input on that, there will be an appropriate time to tell our elected representatives what we'd like to see done. And I'm sure that our actual scientists will be following up on all credible leads that help them expedite a treatment or vaccine for COVID-19. So if that takes them back to a secret lair somewhere in Communist China where they're having unprotected sex with bats while eating live frogs... so be it. In the meantime, let's stay grounded in reality here. It's scary enough and it requires our full attention.
