I'm not saying my wife indulges my whimsical fantasies of Class but....... She bought me a set of 3, ACTUAL Westley Richards turnscrews for my birthday!10 points

If you're looking for close range, piggable & '4 season safe' have you considered a .17WSM? 20gn at 3000fps, 400ft/lb? It sits nicely between the .22mag & TCM2 points

I'm sure there are widespread testing inaccuracies...this is after all something the labs aren't used to dealing with. The science is also still very much being developed as we go along, because again, this isn't something we're used to dealing with. The flu has been around and studied so long, it's got a level of predictability to it from diagnostic to the immediate and long term impacts. With COVID-19, we're learning as we go, so it's going to be chaotic. The tinfoil crowds on all sides are having a field day with this one, but I'm just hoping to not get sick because I have a feeling it would suck.2 points

I would want the most muzzle energy I could for the purpose. The TCM will have the most, followed by 22 Mag, and then 17HMR. Downside as you mention is its cost. It is over double the cost per round than 22 Mag, but it has double the energy. 22 Mag - 40 grain bullet with a velocity of 1,910 fps in a 22" rifle barrel has 324 ft-lbs 22TCM - 40 grain bullet with a velocity of 2,752 fps in a 22" rifle barrel has 673 ft.-lbs 20grain 17hmr at 2,2350fps is 250 ft-lb Note also that 22TCM isn't SAAMI approved so if you did want to reload, it may have some challenges. Not saying people don't, but there isn't a set spec as I understand it. Neither of the others can be reloaded so not really an issue for the comparison, just something to know if you do consider that.2 points

Wanted to provide an update: Decided to let Willis68 work his magic and man, did he do a great job! I’ve never had an edge this sharp! He also recommended a strop to maintain the edge, which is currently on order. So happy with the work done and his efforts to get it back to me so quickly! Very much appreciated!!!!!2 points

"You have to ask yourself, where are these confrontational people and groups, protesters and threatening people doing the assaults getting lawyers from and how are they paying for it?" They are getting the money from the same people that pay them to do what they do!!!! Do you honestly think that they do this stuff for free?? There are billionaires supporting these movements and they are profiting from all this trouble they are creating!!!2 points

It's amazing how fact situations are almost always vastly different. Years ago, in ILLannoy, I got caught up in a stock certificate counterfeiting sting operation with the FBI, and some real bad guys that were running that operation out of about a dozen cities. When the bad guys found out I was involved, they started hanging out around my house, among other things. Time after time, I would call the local cops and they would show up and the bad guys would leave. It was a regular thing. Then one time they showed up , and the cops were not available, for a long time. The bad guys called my phone (which new number I had gotten only that day, but somehow they had it) and they said "Whatcha gonna do now?" And I yelled, "Watch your 6 a**holes" and charged around the house and up behind that car with my 12 gauge, screaming like a maniac. They got the hell outta there at warp speed. No, that wasn't the last of them, but I did get their license # , and the FBI paid them a visit and told them to NEVER show up around our house again, and they didn't. There were other crazy repercussions, phone threats against my kids, even my dog! ---but they never showed up at my house again. The local cops and the FBI agents were spectacular in the way they handled this months-long investigation. Eventually It was a major multi-city bust. When I was asked for my sentencing recommendation, I said, "Death penalty, maybe?" Yeah, maybe it was nuts to charge out there that night, but I was ready to blast them. It's amazing what adrenalin can do. Would I advise anyone to do that? NO! But I was young and stupid. Now I'm just old and stupid! So that's my self-defense encounter story.2 points

Send it to Willis68 at Bad Ass Blades. I bought several different sharpening systems and got decent results, but my money would have been better spent sending it to Willis instead. Plus he's local.2 points

Mine arrives tomorrow, however I opted for the paperback version. While less classy, it seems a bit more manageable for perusing in the throne room.1 point

DaveTN ...... Yes Sir, that is him. A heck of a harmonica player!! Harley’s wife and my wife were childhood friends and remained in close touch throughout the years until my wife’s death. Harley and his wife have been pretty devoted to prison ministries for a number of years. They live in Florida and would get together with Charlie during their trips back to TN. Once said Ole Charlie still carried some regrets for things said & done in the past, but hey ... DON’T WE ALL????1 point

I think Kemp's move was a huge mistake. I really kinda like what we are doing here. Give the Mayors and the Health Departments the best data daily and let them make the decision. If the State see it going sideways they can always step in an impose a mask requirement for a particalar county, area or the whole state. But damn, I sure wouldn't box anyone in.1 point

All listed on bulk ammo is coming from the same manufacturer. If they stop production it's going to dry up.1 point

If you are going to go Centerfire, you may also consider one of the 300 blackout bolt guns. Would make a good hog gun that can be suppressed (if you are into that) and is easily reloadable. Would have better energy as well.1 point

No experience with table top models, but every shop I ever worked in had a commercial grade floor model and I used them quite often. So I offer advice from that point of view. Stick with name brands. Milwaukee, Rockwell, etc. Go for a high HP motor and easy speed adjustment. At least a 1/2" chuck. Also look into a table mounted vice. This will be extremely handy. But most of all look for strength. You want one that's rock solid that locks tight with no movement or play at all. Most any cheap drill press will work for a while. But every drill press eventually succumbs to age, use and wear. They get loose and sloppy. You want one that will last a long time. Don't cheap out on it or it'll cost you in the long run.1 point
-
That's the exact reason I went with that model. In a situation that isn't elevated to the firearm level quite yet but needs some defensive action, with 1800 lumens it's bright enough to temporarily blind somebody for a few seconds and give you some separation time to make your next move. Your mileage may vary.1 point

I purchased my kit from a vendor at one of the Knoxville gun shows. If someone wanted to be completely off the books, I suppose they could pay cash. Anyways, purchasing from them allowed me to see different sizes of tubes, and the differences in baffles. Since the one I built is for .22, I went with stainless steel for the baffle next to the blast chamber, and aluminum alloy for the other six baffles. Overall the fit is very good and it looks like a commercial suppressor. Their kits come in various lengths and diameters, depending upon the caliber of the build. I don't know if they have a website, but their e-mail address is solventtubes (at) gmail.com They mentioned they do a number of larger gunshows. I'm very happy with mine and it is dedicated to a Ruger precision rimfire rifle, with a night vision scope.1 point

So now it has been discovered that numerous Florida labs are reporting less than accurate results. Orlando has reported a 98% positive test rate, but is actually at 9.7%. Supposedly, some TN counties have been sending their tests to FL labs. But those of us who are skeptical about recent reports are probably just tinfoil conspiracy theorists... https://www.fox35orlando.com/news/fox-35-exclusive-labs-directed-to-only-report-positive-covid-19-tests https://www.sun-sentinel.com/coronavirus/fl-ne-lab-results-20200715-r535ae72zjdwfekudu3poiy34e-story.html1 point
-
One other consideration is that the TCM is centerfire while the others are rimfire. If you're hunting much in a place/ season that prohibits using a centerfire, the TCM won't be much use.1 point

Might try something like this https://amzn.to/32oCvbJ Or like this and mount a golf umbrella to it https://amzn.to/3h2hK9X Unless you can run across a stroller dirt cheap. Might look at the kind where the car-seat attaches to the stroller frame because the car seat is too old to use for safety at a point and the frame might be useless alone to someone. Looks like this used to be a thing, but says discontinued https://www.opticsplanet.com/do-all-outdoors-gun-buggy.html Found this too, but that is a lot and still no umbrella https://rangetacticalgear.com/product/sc-003-range-runner-gun-cart-12-inch/1 point

President’s are not doctors, nor pandemic specialist. They follow advice from those who are. Both Fucci and Birx are big democrat donors and I don’t trust any democrats. Especially those two based on their known history. Heaven knows what their unknown history is. My Opinion anyway.1 point
-
If anyone has any doubts about the intentions of the democratic party or if anyone is still holding on to the notions that the party today resembles ANYTHING at all the party that their grandparents voted for then it is time for a reality check. The election this fall largely is a referendum on the America that we grew up in and whether people want to continue to live in the most prosperous country in the history of mankind or whether you want to blow it all up and try a form of government (socialism/communism) that has failed and led to misery and genocide everywhere it has been instituted. The choice is yours.1 point

But that’s just it, once we start using the threat of violence to get what we want; we are no better than the dirt bags that are doing it now. “Do what we say or we’ll burn it down!” The only thing that can stop those type of threats is to put them in prison. I have no doubt some looters will get shot if they move out of the cities. But I also have no doubt if they are white and the DA is a BLM or antifa supporter; they will get charged whether the evidence supports it or not. This isn’t about justice. Sheriff’s are elected, they don’t answer to anyone but the people. Police Chiefs answer to a Mayor or City Council; that needs to change. I’m waiting for a Police Chief or Mayor to be fired or brought up on charges stemming from Nonfeasance or Malfeasance. Officers involved in not putting out the calls that come in, are violating their oath of Office. I don’t know if Dispatchers take an oath or not, but it wouldn’t surprise me to see some of them sued civilly as this progresses. We have talked many times here about the military or cops saying they were “just following orders”. Politicians telling the Police to “stand down” while citizens are being attacked and killed is not a lawful order. Officers will not be able to hide behind it when the dust settles.1 point

Guys if you want to just get a decent knife sharpener buy a Spyderco sharp maker, and learn to use it that will serve you well however if you want them as sharp as my experience and equipment will do that will take you years of experience and could cost a few grand I do have a friend that can get a knife as sharp as my systems do by hand but he is very expensive and rightly so Someone mentioned I charge only $10 a blade that is only on a very rare occasion or when i did a multi knife deal for someone I also can sharpen small blades depending on if I have the correct adapter on hand As someone else mentioned if I put my best edge on a knife it can be maintained with a leather strop1 point

So sorry for your loss. It can be as hard losing a pet as it is a human relative. They are family. When the world seems cold and cruel, our pets are always there to show us unconditional love. To them we are their world. It takes time to heal before looking for a new pet /friend/family member. When the time comes, I think sometimes they will find us first. My boxer Sami turned 6 not long ago. We got her when she was 8 weeks old. Today she is starting to show some gray. I dread to think of the day when she leaves us. Edit: I do want add that I hope you can take some comfort in knowing that her final moments she felt love and safety in the arms of her hero. She was able to slip away to the Rainbow Bridge knowing that one day you'll meet again1 point

We jut moved to Tenn and barely a month later we had to put him to sleep. He was by my side well over 17 years. It's been about 1.5 years he's gone. I'm/we are still not over him and I hate when people say should just get another dog. He wasn't just a dog. He was the smartest, lovable and most loyal friend I ever had... When we are ready, but it isn't time yet. To help us keep his memory alive, we hired a company called Petsies. After working with them over the phone for 5 months, he was re-born as a stuffed companion. People had no idea it was a replica when they seen him. I put him in his fav bed with his usual jewelry and toys around him next to the fireplace. It may sound weird but it helps me a lot. His ashes are on the buffet behind him and is surrounded by flameless candles that light when the sun goes down. All his other belongings are in a treasure chest I made in the master bedroom... I prayed to God every night to take me instead so my wife could not go through the pain but no word from the man upstairs. I'd take a bullet for him when he was a live and I'd gladly give myself up for him to live. I hope you find comfort in the fact your lil is looking down from above and like myself, hope to be with him again someday. Here are the shots of my lil guy alive and replicated. PS: Since day one, he made it his job to guard the manger under the tree every year. We did not teach him this. His last photo was him napping under the tree next to the manger. I hate hearing about someone losing their little 4 legged buddies. I'm sorry for your loss. It took me two years before I could even think about replacing my little Sassy but I finally broke down and got another rescue (my third) We have a local vet here that sounds a lot like the one you mentioned.1 point

I'm sorry for your loss, its one of the hardest things anybody can go through. I had a similar experience with a local vet years back. Wont get into much details but my little Jack Russell (Daisy) ended up passing away in my arms one night years ago. She crawled up into my arms as if to say goodbye that night before she passed. Still bawl like a baby thinking about her and it could have been prevented if the vet would've sent the medicine home with me the previous day. Once again so sorry for your loss, I know the pain all to well. And pray you find your next companion soon. I never wanted kids and like I tell everybody my dogs is my babies After she passed I got another little Jack Russell (Tubby) and got a Pit (Sheeva). Both are best friends and sleeps in the bed every night. I dread that day I gotta say goodbye to my babies but I know its inevitable and we just gotta give them the best life and love they deserve while we can.1 point

Conspiracy Theories, Coronavirus, TGO and YOU For as long as I can remember, TGO has never really provided "safe waters" for people who want to preach conspiracy theories and rile-up the masses. There are plenty of places for that sort of thing on the Internet and yes sometimes the conspiracy enthusiasts (or nuts, if you so prefer) are proven right in the end. But since there are so many other places for it and since we feel that the ravings of fringe believers tends to bring down the property value, we prefer that our members engage in discussions based in reality. Lately the moderators have begun removing posts fanning the flames of conspiracy around the COVID-19 novel coronavirus pandemic. Generally speaking, I am supportive of their actions. Here's why: Priorities First and foremost, we have a present problem to deal with so let's start by putting our focus there. We have members who are and have been personally affected by COVID-19 and chances are this is just the beginning. If we are going to invest our mental and emotional energies into something, let's invest them in encouraging, supporting and helping our own community. Respect Again, we know that we already have members of TGO affected by this pandemic. So far they (and we) have been fortunate and it's turned out well. That could change. We don't want that to happen, but the statistical projections indicate that by the time the dust settles none of us will have many degrees of separation from someone that died as a result of the virus. I just think maybe it's a little disrespectful to the people currently fighting this virus and eventually to those who lose the battle for us to sit around and imagineer boogeymen behind a virus that science currently says evolved naturally. Stay In Your Lane, Bro Following right in behind the matter of respect is the simple fact that unless you're an educated, degreed, certified ass-kicking virologist, geneticist, research scientist, or have data from a respected source that is... you should probably stay in your lane. Remember the Great Toilet Paper Shortage of 2020? That happened because social media said there was a shortage of toilet paper. So the people believed it, reacted like scared sheep, and ran right over the edge of the cliff with arms full of Charmin. There's no reason for us to allow the next big social media fear-fest to start with or take root on TGO. We can control what happens here, so our intent is to manage it so that there's at least one place you can visit online that doesn't feel like the lunatics are running the asylum. You're welcome for that. Even if you don't appreciate it right now. And So What If That Conspiracy Theory Is Accurate? The President, love him or hate him, has already said that there are going to be consequences on the other side of this current situation for the way that China mishandled this. Even if they didn't bio-engineer it, their government hid the outbreak from the world until it was busting out of their borders. So far the Prez has done everything he's said he would do... right or wrong... so we can be pretty confident that the US isn't going to just let this slide. So, even if the latest conspiracy theory is accurate... you and I can't do a thing about it. Establishing and maintaining a military to preserve our sovereignty, the strength of our borders, and the security of our interests is the one thing that the government should be doing. It's maybe the only reason the government should exist if you ask some. But they are equipped to do something about it. Not us. Not even Chuck Norris. Let's let the government handle the boogeyman. And if they need our input on that, there will be an appropriate time to tell our elected representatives what we'd like to see done. And I'm sure that our actual scientists will be following up on all credible leads that help them expedite a treatment or vaccine for COVID-19. So if that takes them back to a secret lair somewhere in Communist China where they're having unprotected sex with bats while eating live frogs... so be it. In the meantime, let's stay grounded in reality here. It's scary enough and it requires our full attention.1 point
