  1. No. Counting total cases makes sense. And as a result of that method the lethality rate should also be low. It's a bad bug no doubt. And it likes to pick on oldsters and health impared individuals, just like every flu bug that's ever been around. The problem here is that every politician from every party is trying to use this to their advantage. Hang em all I say.....

  2. Back when I was working multiple jobs, one of which was at night. I stopped to get gas in Madison (don't do that BTW) at 2 am. Had three guys circle the station, park on the far side, then two flanked me at distance while the third made an indirect/direct line towards me. The flags went of as I was the only one there. Didn't have my gun on me but it was in my front seat. I made eye contact with the first guy, grabed my gun but kept it out of sight, and began planning attack priorities if they continued. Fortunately when I didn't break eye contact with the lead guy, they all stopped about 20 feet out, stared at me for a minute, then turned and retreated in the same way they approached. They got back in the car and left without showing plates. I don't know if they had ill intent, but that was the first time I fully understood the importance of have an equalizer present. I would have been completely helpless in that scenario otherwise.

  3. Spot on Nightrunner. Some people have this fantasy that you could live off the land. That might of worked in the 1800s when the U.S. population was around 5 million total. With 331 million of us now, we're already "artificially" feed through the farming/food industry. There isn't enough wildlife to sustain us anymore. Guess you could go total vegan and eat dandelions and stuff like that. Me, without bacon, I'm sure I'd die quickly.

  4. This year made my 2nd year ever fishing for Crappie and my best year of fishing for them. I might catch bigger later on but for Watts Bar these are dang good fish and my personal best. Dont know the weight just got the measurements. The black went 16 1/4in and 12.5in Girth. The white went 15in with a 12in girth. All I know is they sure are good to look at so the $310 was well spent. I used a old piece of barn wood and stained the edges with Minwax Red Mahogany 225 to get that burnt look on the outer edges. And used Cocunut Oil for the rest to keep the color lighter.

  6. I'd venture to say the percentage of folks that put 35,000+ rounds on one gun in its lifetime is very small. Basically the average Joe shouldn't worry about the round count life of their .40 pistols. I know I'm not.

  8. Glad you got the Venom dried out. I have one on a SW22 Victory and it’s a winning combination. Happy I bought it when I did last fall after entirely too much time hand-wringing over the cost of a stupid little dot, but PSA had a deal that couldn’t be beat. Should have bought two.

  10. I'm having an outpatient procedure done tomorrow at the hospital so they had me go in Tuesday for a covid test. All I can say is "damn!!!". They put that swab in my nose so far I was expecting to see brain tissue on it when they pulled it out. BTW, it came back negative, so at least I didn't have it when they did the test

  11. Around 2010 I was in a First TN bank about 10-15 minutes before a guy tried to rob it. He didn't realize that branch had an armed guard. I was carrying my Ruger LCR at the time and always wonder what might have happened. I'm glad I wasn't there. Last year my wife and I were dead asleep around 0100 when our home alarm started blaring. I never realized how jarring that would be. I was up, out of bed, Glock 21 in hand, round chambered in maybe 5 seconds. My wife was so scared she wasn't much help. I had her deactivate the alarm from her phone. Once that noise was off I just stood there and listened while keeping my G21 pointed at entrance to our bedroom. I realized pretty quickly it had to be a false alarm because our dog wasn't barking or growling. I don't think he would bite anyone but he wouldn't be silent. The alarm was saying kitchen window breach which I determined was closed. The sensor had just failed in the middle of the night. I was thankful for my weapon mounted light and the fact that we could control the alarm from our phone. It taught us some good lessons which we later talked about. I hope I never have a real encounter.

  19. Statistically speaking, it should be a rare thing when a person needs to grab a firearm for personal defense. The odds should even be reduced if one maintains some situational awareness and doesn't go to stupid places, associate with stupid people or go somewhere unnecessarily at stupid times. I've heard the old adage said many times, "a handgun should be comforting, not comfortable". A victim of a crime or attack is usually unaware, it's not expected, at their most vulnerable, not prepared and has no though about a plan or effective response. I'd be interested in hearing when you were thankful you were carrying or had quick access to a firearm? With the accumulation of all my birthday candles, came torn muscles, arthritis, fatigue slowness, etc. In other words, I'm no longer young, strong and fit; I'm incapable of physically fighting to defend myself and family anymore. I have to depend on what Sam Colt stated, or in modern terminology, a force multiplier. In the last decade I've had two experiences when I was grateful I had a firearm really close by. The first was when my bugler alarm went off in the middle of the night and the indoor siren blasting away. The control pad was at the opposite end of the bedroom in the kitchen to silence it. Couldn't hear the phone ringing to answer ADT'S call to respond to them. It took the county Sheriff's Department :45 minutes to find my house, there were only two of them on duty and were at the other end of the county. That one turned out to be a false alarm. Something [mouse, bug, shift] tripped the motion sensor in the basement. The second instance was the real deal. The wife and I had just gone to bed and were not even drowsy yet, and started to hear loud metallic banging and tapping from somewhere that seemed in the house? One of those sounds that can't be associated with something mechanical such as an appliance acting up. With pistol in hand, what to do, call 9-1-1 or not, what if it's something stupid and I wasted their time and look stupid. After I carefully check and clear the inside of my home for what that mechanical rapping is, do I want to go outside and see if it's the air conditioner? What if it's what I suspect it is, someone trying to break into the house? Perhaps I'm like many men with testosterone and doesn't want to appear weak and scared in front of their wife. The noises and banging had stopped when I got out of bed. With Adrenalin along with some fear and anger building, I wanted to go outside and confront whom may still be there; or ease my mind if it was something else. Then common sense, reasoning and the potential of avoidable legal and moral issues kicked in. No Dennis, the potential dangers, uncertainties and following legal matters are not worth 'going hunting'. It was a long rest of the night until dawn, when I could see well enough outside from inside my home to go out and see if I could find anything. Long story short; sure enough, someone(s) tried prying my basement dead bolt / locked door handle open and damaged the door and door frame. I didn't even bother to report it because it's just that, a report, and I didn't want to waste anymore of my time much less the time of the police. In retrospect, I believe my decision not to try and confront and catch what at the time I believed to be home invader(s) was a good one. I don't want to think about "what if's", like the potential legal and civil charges, hiring an attorney, sleepless nights that could have been avoided, or even physically losing a confrontation that I initiated by going 'hunting'. I've since beefed up my home security to make it much more difficult to gain entry. What's your story?

  24. I'm starting to like those red dots. As we're all aware, most things gun related are becoming hard to get. I've found so far higher price items like expensive pistols, Trijicon red dots, etc. can still be found. Standing at the Bass Pro Shop counter examining that tiny little Trijicon one inch cube of steel and glass, that I could barely feel any weight. I thought to myself, Dennis, are you really going to fork out $500.00 + for that tiny cute little optic??? Don't even mention it to the wife, she wouldn't understand man logic.

  25. When there I was thinking about the first time I went there shortly after I moved down here. I guess it must have been around 2010 or 2011? The wife and I made that long two hour drive, and when we got there, they were flooded and closed. Didn't hear or know a thing about it? Anyway, it was pouring so hard for so long I thought I was going to be a part of a repeat. Their employees and myself had a hard time finding where their umbrellas were. We finally found them, they were tiny, cheap and not worth purchasing. You'd think they would carry decent beach type umbrellas at such a store. Anyway, I got drenched to the bone "running" 50 yards to the truck. Wet the entire way home and condensation constantly forming on the windshield. What a trip...

  26. Uncle Larry’s loaded. How much more does he need? I do like Midway but their prices aren’t the greatest, cutting off C&R discounts, and the jacked up shipping charges kinda left me soured for a while. It is what it is though. If they have something I need I’ll order.

  27. Just an update: Yea I hear Vortex has an excellent warranty and customer service. I was impatient and didn't want to go through the hassle of boxing, mailing and waiting and waiting for the returned repair. Sealing it in Tupperware with rice and some descant did the job and dried it out in just four days, now works great again. I checked everywhere to purchase a replacement [Vortex Venom, not Viper] to use while waiting for repair if I sent it in. I couldn't find one anywhere. In those four days I decided to get a Trijicon type II, 3.25 MOA, non adjustable to save a few bucks For my needs I don't need the extra bells and whistles. Made the 2 hour drive to Bass Pro in Nashville [which turned out to be much longer] and picked one up. Seems everything that is higher price is still available on the shelves, including the Walther Q5 SF I recently purchased. Picked a terrible day to go, torrential rain there and back, I-24 closed westbound and traffic bumper to bumper for miles at a standstill for who knows how long. Now I have a backup to use in USPSA when I shoot carry optics if I have a problem. Now if I could just find that dot consistently each time I point???

  28. Yea I learned a few things myself, that tiny little alarm is so loud I had to scrape myself off the ceiling when it went off. With that thing blaring I couldn't hear anything and had trouble concentrating. I had to go from my bedroom to the kitchen to manually silence it. I really need to get my system upgraded to current technology but, I hate entering into another binding contract. I have the same system for 10 years now. Every two years I call to cancel my service and they ask what they can do to keep me as a customer. They make a service call and change my batteries and check the system out for free. One of the changes / improvements I made, was to hang a pair of electronic hearing protection by my bed. If nothing else, to deaden the painful sound that little box on the wall makes.

  29. look into Edge Pro system, not pro grade but good for DIY. Veritas compound and a nice piece of leather on a wooden block for polishing. If you want to go old school get a double sided Norton India Stone carborundum (coarse) and Aluminum Oxide (fine) and do it by hand. Lots of practice!!

  30. My only situation that was really frightening was in Columbia in the early 1990's. Did some work with a gift store there for a while, and always left after closing hours. No problem at the mall, but I stopped at a little roadside drive thru burger joint for a meal. Pulled and drove around back(didn't even begin to like that) to the order window. Small building, roads on 2 sides, brush on the others. As I was waiting, I saw a young man on the sidewalk coming towards the drive thru. He ducked into the brush, probably though I didn't or wouldn't see him. After a moment, he trotted to the corner of the building and looked at my Blazer. I guess he though he was invisible to me. But him being back lit and already watching, my spidy senses were all a tingle. I had my BHP by my thigh. As he came up from behind, between the building and my back fender, I laid the muzzle in the open window and asked what he was doing. Never a word spoken by him, just turned and walked away. About this time my meal came. Little gal in the window saw the pistol and almost fainted. I had to call out and explain what had happened. She wanted to call Columbia police, but I wasn't staying around for it. trucked on up Columbia Ave and hit Saturn Pkwy to home.

  31. Disclaimer for # of cases figures. My understanding is that if you have a test, and the result is positive, you go into the number of total cases. But that number does not break out those hospitalized. So the number, to me anyway, seems inflated. jmo

  35. Channel 5 news just said that there has been 688 new cases in only 24 hours. The weird thing is that I haven't seen any long lines at doctor offices , health departments or hospitals for people getting tested. No long lines at all. BUT when the toilet paper thing was going on , you'd see lines wrapped around the buildings and all kinds of nonsense. This makes me think these "new cases" are just bull crap.

  36. Please let us know what you think of the green when you get them. I don’t know if they still are, but they were charging more for the green. I question that green would be any easier to see than red, but I haven’t tried it. Or if it is, is it substantial?

  40. I was pretty sure you had played with Charlie at some point in your career. Like I've said before, I'd love to sit and listen to you talk about your musical adventures and escapades. lol Have you considered writing about it? Really, I'm sure a bunch of us would buy copies. But back on track...I think I've made posts about Charlie Daniels here already, and I can't tell you how many on FB. But Charlie deserves every single one. A good Christian man, a true America loving patriot, a great musician, and a true southern gentleman. Just a good ol' boy in all regards. I got to enjoy his music since his early days I think. First heard him at a Chili Cookoff. I think he may have gotten paid in chili. lol But got to see I think 3 live shows. He never disappointed, except maybe not playing long enough at the last Jam I saw. But didn't matter. He was, is, and always will be great in my eyes. Miss ya' Charlie. Now take a break, and Rest in Peace.

  41. I had the opportunity to interview Charlie back in 06 when he was touring in Iraq. Also got to shoot (photos) the concert he did for the troops that night. What an amazing man... in his 70's, flying into a war zone so he can visit with and entertain the troops...and he worked like a dog the entire time. He did two hours of meetings and interviews before the concert, played HARD for 2 or 3 hours, stayed til well past midnight signing autographs, and then was up before dawn to attend a sunrise church service. Then he got on a helo, went to an even worse part of Iraq and did it again. It was a humbling experience watching him work. A great man who will be sorely missed. Oh, the concert was for the 48th BCT (or whatever they were calling Brigades at that point) out of Georgia, all of whom were about to head back home. He closed the concert w/ "The Devil Went Down to GA" and the roar that went up from the crowd was like nothing you've ever heard. It was a physical presence that felt like being hit by a wave in the ocean. Incredible experience.

  42. And you think I don't? We are so focused on trying to protect everyone, when it's really just a small amount that truly needs protection. People in this country think very short term in response to things. The cry is always, "we have to do SOMETHING!" They never consider if the something is actually the best thing long term, or really even short term. Every one is quick to mask up but very few have asked, is this good for our bodies long term? Is this putting us at risk of other health issues (which I've already seen come up with my sister due to wearing a mask.) Is people wearing mask causing people who shouldn't be out taking risk to be out because now they feel "safe"? We have become too "clean" of a society and people are afraid to get any germs and that's now coming back to haunt us. Is there a middle ground, yes. Are we way past that middle ground, yes. Again, I have no issue with anyone wearing a mask if they desire to. I really don't. But people do not have the right to force health decisions, like wearing a mask, on other people. I care about people's right to chose for themselves how they take care of their own health. I may disagree with it sometimes, but I respect their right to chose.

  46. It reads like you are thinking a bushcraft/live off the land type scenario. I’m curious how we get there from where we are now. Living in the wilderness with only what you find and what you can fit in a backpack and maybe in a game cart is very difficult and has a TON of disadvantages. Even in the most catastrophic TEOTWAWKI scenario, long term survival (longer than 6 months) will be dependent upon if you can raise animals and grow a garden. In the 6-12 months prior to that (immediately following the “event”) when it’s complete and total anarchy with Mad Max roaming gangs (hypothetical) you will want nothing less than an AR/AK and high capacity pistol. But afterwards, you can’t roam forever, when you settle down or bug in, you can have anything and everything (gun wise) you can get. You will have to get a plot of land or work for someone who does. If you really want a 2-gun battery for that either a .357mag revolver/lever gun or .22 rifle/centerfire pistol would suffice I suppose. But you wouldn’t be limited to just 2 guns. Of course the optimum solution is to just live in the country right now, commute to work if you must, and practice growing a garden and raising chickens or whatever other animals you have room for. It doesn’t just happen it takes work and skills knowing what to do. Otherwise you’ll likely not make it past 12 months. Within 3-4 months all game and fish will be gone. You can’t live out of a backpack/off the land indefinitely.
