  1. Depending on where you are it would probably be assault, or possibly aggravated assault, unless someone was trying to get into your vehicle. If you point that at someone…it’s a gun. Just like with cops, if someone feels they are in danger of death or great bodily harm; they can kill you. Their justification won’t matter if its real or not. Unless you have a way out, chances are pretty good you will have rounds incoming. I’m not suggesting it wouldn’t be a good choice in some circumstances, instead of killing someone. But an innocent protestor claiming you pointed it at them would be justified in killing you.

  2. The very reason I am a news junky, just before I leave a location I look at what is going on in my ares. Keep some kind of map app open as I drive around in the city. I can get info on traffic in an instant and avoid these kind of things.

  3. Depends on WHERE you are in the traffic. the first thing is to call 911 if for no other reason than to get it on record what is happening. If you are the first car then keep moving if you can. I'm not talking about "drive through the crowd in Charlottesville " style, I'm talking about just rolling through slowly enough not to do any undue harm if possible. But again this depends on the mood of the crowd. People chanting and waving signs and people throwing bricks are two different things. And if someone kicks your car or hits it with a bat that is still not necessarily justification to shoot them (yet). If it is obvious that they are "out for blood" then proceed as necessary. Drive around, through or over them if need be. If that is not possible and you have the option to "safely" wait it out then that might be the best option but again, once the crowd gets violent it is a LETHAL situation and the "disparity of force" is through the roof. Respond as necessary. This is not the time for "well I only carry my gun every now and then". And if a J-frame and the 5 rounds in the cylinder is all you carry you might want to reconsider that. Is there a time to get out of the vehicle? Yes. If you are stuck in the middle of the traffic and they are setting cars on fire then you are going to have to do SOMETHING. That something might be get out and run , get out and try to help others get out of their cars (think elderly folks who might need help) or get out, grab your rifle and make things very loud. Obviously that is a last resort but I'd rather have that option and not need to use it than not have that as an option. If you have a passenger (passengers) this might change things. Who is the passenger? Your wife? Your wife and small children? Your teenage age daughters? Your SF friend who just got back from a deployment to Syria and you are coming home from the range? All of these details matter and will color what you do and frankly what you are able to do. The best place to be is NOT THERE. So if you can avoid it then avoid it, if you can drive around it, then drive around it if not and you can drive through it do that. Worst case is having to get out and solve this on foot. I was in Raymond Mississippi at the Rangemaster Master Instructor class when the widespread nationwide rioting kicked off on the night of May 28. We all were aware of the news as the class progressed from Fri-Sun. Virtually all of us were visitors to the area and would all have to make our ways home Sunday night after class. My plan was to fill the car up before I left (I could make it all the way home on 1 tank of gas) , to simply stay on the interstate if possible, check in with friends along the way for a local reports of what was going on in their areas (I drove essentially diagonally through Alabama on 59 ) and to be ready to drive around or through any problems, and keep the AUG on the front seat for any potential problems that I could not drive around or through. People think you are crazy carrying a rifle and 7 mags with you until the rioting starts. Then you are a prophet.

  4. For the past couple of months I have been fortunate enough to use a Meopta MeoStar 1-6 scope. Meopta's MeoStar spotting scope is highly regarded but their rifle scopes do not get much fanfare. I can't speak to other Meopta scopes but the MeoStar 1-6 is nice.

  5. I bought 2 Swiss rifles off the Gunboards forums and I was wondering if anybody knew anything about them. https://imgur.com/gallery/dOBw5ex They are very well made, and the triggers are very nice. I haven't gotten to try them on the range yet, due to rain, but I have high hopes in the accuracy department. I didn't know if these were actually used as trainers for their military, or if they were more of novelties/ civilian marksmanship programs over there. I can't find much information on Google, as to when they would have been made, or how many were converted. All of the serial numbers are matching. There are no troop tags under the buttplates. And I can't find any import markings on them. The Sahli sight adjuster is incremented from 0-5. I'm not sure if that's in 10 meter increments or what. Here are what hi listed them as. G89 action to K31 by Ernst Frey, RF FP w/ new barrel & #18 Sahli sight adjuster G96 action to K31, RF FP and new barrel

  6. What a POS, "I am a combat veteran", I hate when these self entitled MFs use that. Well guess what, many of us Combat Vets out there, and that does not give us the right to illegally block a highway. Your rights stop right where mine begin, remember that. As to the confrontation, I have to say I commend him for not taking a shot at that guy that punched him. If he stopped on his own, he should have gone all the way to some place where the police could have intervened sooner.

  8. I also have a Halosun on my MPX. Can't remember which model but as soon as you pick up the gun it comes on which is neat. Definitely wouldn't want this feature if it's in a vehicle though.

  9. True. I turn mine off in the truck. My gun is always in a takedown case anyway. That gun does home duty too. Sometimes you just can't beat an Aimpoint.

  10. Because if it’s in a vehicle it’s always on. Riding down the road is enough shake for it to be awake.

  11. One of my old bosses turned me on to it. I have a Kimber pepper blaster. This thing smokes that.

  12. If that Holosun is like the Sig Romeo5 (made by Holosun), you will like the shake awake feature. I have one on my truck/HD rifle. The dot is always lit when I pick it up.

  13. I don't know if this has been brought up on TGO yet. The Byrna CO2 powered pepper ball gun looks like a great solution. I will probably order one up soon. They sell pepper only, and pepper/mace ammo. Just discovered it a couple of weeks ago... https://byrna.com/

  14. Thanks to all the helpful information. Old eyes and progressive lenses make seeing small dot sights a chore. We moved two months ago and just passed my CWP class here in South Carolina yesterday with a perfect score. I can still shoot decently with my lousy vision, but would like to improve my performance. Big dot sights may be just what I need.

  15. Drive careful . I've hit bottom on that lake more times than I can count . Be in 8ft of water one minute and 1.5ft the next . I'd rather fish Wilson or Pickwick any day .

  16. I put them on my FNS9 Compact. Quick target acquisition for a self defense situation and plenty accurate enough for that purpose. I don't plan on any long range shooting with that gun anyway but it's better at distance than I thought it would be.

  17. You can turn the audio recording off on practically every dash cam I've seen or used. I turn mine off just because I want maximum capacity on the storage card for video. If I am bugging out of my vehicle, it takes maybe three extra seconds to grab my dash cam and shove it into my pants pocket. Since that camera is evidence of what occurred, it's a worthwhile three seconds.

  18. What is different in the $200 trigger kits? Most take stock parts and do some variation of what I described. They may slightly reshape the trigger bar or round off the plunger, but you can do 90% of what they do yourself. Expensive trigger kits won’t prevent holes in your feet. It’s your money, though.

  19. A big can of that powerful long stream Wasp spray kept in the console works good. That stuff is nasty mean!!!

  20. I would guess disabling the audio recording would be fairly simple. I do not think editing the video prior to giving it to police is a good idea. Sounds a lot like evidence tampering to me, and only guilty people do that.

  21. Nutjobs on both the left and the right are warning that the evil "other side" won't accept the results of the election and suggesting that perhaps one should buy ammo. Meanwhile, as Ronald_55 just noted, anyone who was paying attention has been laying up supplies for years....

  22. 6 people out of 470,000 residents. Only 114 active cases. Not that anyone asked, but I don't believe the data supports closing the entire country again. It made sense in population dense areas like NY. It doesn't make sense for us. We have hospitals here in Knoxville that have only seen 1-2 COVID patients. I'd like to see an option where high risk individuals could choose to stay home and receive unemployment assistance. I'm seeing elderly folks that are out and about and not even wearing masks. Apparently they don't care about COVID anymore.

  23. I wonder if there's a good story about the holes in the fender?

  24. How old is older? I'm 55, and just today wore a mask for the first time (all of 20 minutes or so), because it was mandatory in a VA facility. I am not worried in the least about this, I think much of this has been too politicized and that makes me even more skeptical about the whole thing.

  25. Note that the hospitals here haven't been anywhere near capacity in the past 4 months. Most have been virtually empty. Given that society has been reopened for 2 weeks, if sick people aren't flocking to the hospitals now, I doubt they will.

  26. Conspiracy Theories, Coronavirus, TGO and YOU For as long as I can remember, TGO has never really provided "safe waters" for people who want to preach conspiracy theories and rile-up the masses. There are plenty of places for that sort of thing on the Internet and yes sometimes the conspiracy enthusiasts (or nuts, if you so prefer) are proven right in the end. But since there are so many other places for it and since we feel that the ravings of fringe believers tends to bring down the property value, we prefer that our members engage in discussions based in reality. Lately the moderators have begun removing posts fanning the flames of conspiracy around the COVID-19 novel coronavirus pandemic. Generally speaking, I am supportive of their actions. Here's why: Priorities First and foremost, we have a present problem to deal with so let's start by putting our focus there. We have members who are and have been personally affected by COVID-19 and chances are this is just the beginning. If we are going to invest our mental and emotional energies into something, let's invest them in encouraging, supporting and helping our own community. Respect Again, we know that we already have members of TGO affected by this pandemic. So far they (and we) have been fortunate and it's turned out well. That could change. We don't want that to happen, but the statistical projections indicate that by the time the dust settles none of us will have many degrees of separation from someone that died as a result of the virus. I just think maybe it's a little disrespectful to the people currently fighting this virus and eventually to those who lose the battle for us to sit around and imagineer boogeymen behind a virus that science currently says evolved naturally. Stay In Your Lane, Bro Following right in behind the matter of respect is the simple fact that unless you're an educated, degreed, certified ass-kicking virologist, geneticist, research scientist, or have data from a respected source that is... you should probably stay in your lane. Remember the Great Toilet Paper Shortage of 2020? That happened because social media said there was a shortage of toilet paper. So the people believed it, reacted like scared sheep, and ran right over the edge of the cliff with arms full of Charmin. There's no reason for us to allow the next big social media fear-fest to start with or take root on TGO. We can control what happens here, so our intent is to manage it so that there's at least one place you can visit online that doesn't feel like the lunatics are running the asylum. You're welcome for that. Even if you don't appreciate it right now. And So What If That Conspiracy Theory Is Accurate? The President, love him or hate him, has already said that there are going to be consequences on the other side of this current situation for the way that China mishandled this. Even if they didn't bio-engineer it, their government hid the outbreak from the world until it was busting out of their borders. So far the Prez has done everything he's said he would do... right or wrong... so we can be pretty confident that the US isn't going to just let this slide. So, even if the latest conspiracy theory is accurate... you and I can't do a thing about it. Establishing and maintaining a military to preserve our sovereignty, the strength of our borders, and the security of our interests is the one thing that the government should be doing. It's maybe the only reason the government should exist if you ask some. But they are equipped to do something about it. Not us. Not even Chuck Norris. Let's let the government handle the boogeyman. And if they need our input on that, there will be an appropriate time to tell our elected representatives what we'd like to see done. And I'm sure that our actual scientists will be following up on all credible leads that help them expedite a treatment or vaccine for COVID-19. So if that takes them back to a secret lair somewhere in Communist China where they're having unprotected sex with bats while eating live frogs... so be it. In the meantime, let's stay grounded in reality here. It's scary enough and it requires our full attention.
