  1. I have not seen this yet in the news yet https://fox17.com/news/local/man-arrested-after-getting-shot-while-trying-to-rob-someone-at-opry-mills NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — A man was arrested after he got shot by a person he tried to rob at gunpoint Wednesday night in the parking lot of Opry Mills. According to Metro Police, the suspect approached a victim in the parking lot of the mall at around 7:30 p.m. June 17. The male suspect pulled out a revolver and demanded belongings from the victim. The victim then pulled out their own gun and the two exchanged gunfire. The suspect was hit in the knee and fled on foot. The victim was not injured. Police found the suspect not long later in front a nearby hotel and he was taken into custody. The suspect was identified by the victim before being taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Police said multiple witnesses and security camera footage verified what happened.

  2. Good for the Victim, who wasn't much of a victim!!! If more incidents like this showed up in the news, we might actually see a decrease in these cases!!!

  4. Then as @Garufa said, either #4 or 00 buckshot would be good choices. Federal Premium in 2 3/4" shells is a great choice. I believe they make a low recoil load, which should be more than sufficient for self defense in one's home. Keep in mind that good buckshot will likely only spread about 1" for every yard it travels. (It'll depend a bit on the specific load, but it's a good rule of thumb.) So, if you're standing at one end of a 20' hallway and shooting to the other, your pattern will probably only be about 5" wide. In other words, be sure to aim rather than just point and pull.

  5. For home defense, 00 or #4 buckshot. FPS is irrelevant and brand is a matter of personal taste. Some has more oomph and/or pattern better than others, but it’s still a shotgun.

  7. One thing that needs mention when it comes to the sub compacts is with the availability of Lehigh bullets and now even Black hills makes a Honey Badger bullet similar to the Lehigh all copper bullets. The lehighs have a wide variety of reloading bullets at Midway or is loaded by Underwood. The all copper bullets are pretty much a revolutionary step in mouse gun SD. I was never one to suggest 32 ACP as a SD gun and cringed a bit with a 380 in that roll but these new bullets are game changers. Those small calibers simply don't have the moxy needed for violent tissue damage in many cases. A hollow point needs to expand and that expansion comes at a price of used bullet energy when theres little to be had in the first place. Imagine how much energy it would take you to put a 32 or 380 HP round in a hand press and squash it into a perfect mushroom. The energy you just used in the process is entirely wasted in effecting deeper penetration or cavity damage. The scalloped cuts on the all copper bullets lose none of their energy by necessitating a metal reconfiguration. The result is far more tissue damage and penetration. The youtube vidios all prove this out. I remember an all copper bullet that was tested in handgun defensive loads in a Gun Digest I have from the late 60's. It was of a pointed conical design and it was pretty devastating in the test media of the day. Problem was, those bullets were hand made on non CNC machines and simply were not cost effective for the market. That's all changed today. In light of all this, I'm waiting for my NAA 32 to come in so it can ride in a cell phone pouch I have. It will just fit with maybe a spare mag. Thats my when I have pants on gun without ever fooling with it on and off. A security clip snaps on and off the belt on the leather cell pouch. I bought some 115g Lehigh bullets to load in my serious K40 Kahr when on treks.

  10. What is different in the $200 trigger kits? Most take stock parts and do some variation of what I described. They may slightly reshape the trigger bar or round off the plunger, but you can do 90% of what they do yourself. Expensive trigger kits won’t prevent holes in your feet. It’s your money, though.

  12. This is a scenario where I'm glad I have dash cams in both vehicles. If they are just blocking the road and not threatening me I'm going to wait before just ramming a bunch of people. I'm not going to be the next Reginald Denny though. If it looks like they are going to do me harm then I'll do what I have to. I'm not going to get into specifics.

  13. It's one of those play it by ear things for me. If they are just blocking the road and there are a few cars with me, I'd ride it out leaving enough space between me and the car in front of me to maneuver out of there if need be. If the crowd starts getting hostile, breaking windows, trying to pull drivers out etc, then I would use the best weapon I have, my truck. I'd only shoot if it looks like I can no longer move away from the scene, or if I see weapons being brought in. I would look for and engage the immediate threats, call 911 (possibly already online with them by that time) to make sure someone knows what is going on, but the way things have been, there may be no help coming, so would act accordingly. I refuse to go down without a fight, their cause is not my cause and they probably know it or don't care so doubt "clearer heads" on their side would help either.

  14. Drive forward while accelerating. A vehicle makes a quite formidable weapon as well as a deterrent when operated correctly. This actually happened once. We made a wrong turn in Hopkinsville while going to a motorcross track. Several “young gentlemen” lined up shoulder to shoulder blocking the road. We were in my buddie’s mom’s Cadillac. He asked what he should do. I told him if he wanted to get back home, his best option was to mash the accelerator. They promptly decided to yield the right of way to us. Had we stopped, I doubt it would have turned out as well.

  15. How To Install A Home Security System..... Go to a second hand store and buy a pair of men's used size 14-16 work boots. Place them on your front porch, along with a copy of Guns & Ammo Magazine. Put a few giant dog dishes next to the boots and magazines. Leave a note on your door that reads: 'Bubba, Bertha, Duke, Rocky, & I went for more ammo and beer. Be back in an hour. Don't mess with the pit bulls; they attacked the mailman this morning and messed him up bad. I don't think Killer took part, but it was hard to tell from all the blood. Anyway, I locked all four of 'em in the house. Better wait outside. Be right back. 'Cooter'

  22. A standard Glock spring is flat wire. A friend has a Q5 SF and he said the stock spring is HEAVY. He said options are very limited for respringing with the stock guide rod. He has the ZR guide rod above and a 13 pound Glock spring. He was having trouble going back into battery and cured it with a Sprinco reduced striker spring (he really liked the way the gun felt with the 13). Another friend has a 13 on his SF and it locks up fine with the ZR guide rod. I would get a .250 diameter aftermarket steel guide rod (like either one above) that uses ISMI flat wire Glock springs and be done with it. I would buy a 13 and a 15 pound spring and go from there. One of those should be the ticket depending on your ammo, how far you’re throwing brass, and how the sights track.

  24. Hello hipower, nice to talk to you again, its been awhile. I really couldn't afford that Q5 either and it was on my wish list. Dear Santa Clause: Then a check for $1,200.00 unexpectedly showed up and a wry smile and thought came over me, LoL. I like my Canik TP9-SFX and it shoots 115 Gr. well but has problems shooting heavier loads, I've heard some do that and it can be fixed by installing a different Glock recoil spring? I have a 'rubber Talon grip installed on it, and last USPSA match my hands were sweaty and the grip was slipping around in my hands. Ordered the rough granular texture from Talon Grips and that should take care of that. Ordered my Walther from the same FFL I purchased my TP9-SFX from and was looking around at the candy in the display cases while my NIC check was in progress. They had a new one in the display case and I looked at the price. I was amazed, it was about $200.00 more than I paid for mine, it must be getting popular and everything is going up in prices? Seen the price for one little package of hamburger lately, and can only purchase one?? I've got some arthritis in my hands and fingers too, and I found out the other day when I first shot my new Q5; it's the hardest pistol I have to rack, not exactly sure why? But after I've exercised my hands and fingers awhile, I get a little more strength back in them. That's the reason I sold my Kimber .45's, I could only rack them on my better days. What good is a pistol if you're not capable of racking it each and every time? My Canik has that great little slide handle that's perfect for those days when the mind says yes, but the hands say too many birthday candles... I see and shoot much better with my ballistic bi-focal safety glasses but, I have to cant my neck back to focus and see the iron sights and it's not natural or comfortable. A red dot is the 'cats meow' but again, without corrective lenses it's not a sharp dot, there's a starburst halo to it. I also need more practice quickly acquiring the dot initially and not searching for it, but that will come with practice and time. It's really improved my accuracy but, it's just another thing that will eventually malfunction and fail at the worst time. I learned a lesson during the previous two year shortage period about not having adequate ammo, magazines, etc. for a prolonged shortage. With the exception of my .357 revolver, I standardized call my handguns to 9mm to simplify life. And ordered enough 9mm and magazines to practice and shoot matches like I normally do for at least a four year period. While most were enjoying themselves going BANG-BANG-BANG, I had to conserve, choose and restrict my activities; and that was no fun...

  27. Interesting thread. I think I'd try to do things in this order: 1. Avoid if at all possible. Call 911 2. Leave if possible. 3. If non-violent. Try to wait for the crowd to move on or police come. 4. If violent, use the vehicle as a battering ram to make room to escape. 5. Fire only if absolutely necessary. I've never really thought about a dash cam. But now, I do believe I'll look into it.

  30. I made one for my carbine (at the time I needed it, every place was sold out). Cut a socket in half and welded to a steel pipe. Ugly, but it worked well. Mine was coated in loctite but broke free easily. Go mag dump and then try to break it free.

  33. Figure something else out. You can’t find a safe that holds both. If you do, you’re doing something wrong. Either not enough guns or ammo. Safes fill up real fast.
    1 point
  34. Having looked at safes with the intent to buy a larger one, I know mechanical locks are a lot less common than they used to be (at least in the ones in my price range). If you end up with an electronic lock one make sure it is the kind with a backup key. That way if the electronics go out, you can still get into the safe. And an additional +1 on buying bigger. You will possibly find all types of thing you want to put in there that are not guns until you fill it up with guns. Buy once, cry once as the saying goes, Plus, you only have to convince your significant other ONCE if you go that way and that is necessary.

  35. If you didn't feel you were in enough danger to shoot them in the chest then you were not in enough danger to shoot them PERIOD. Lethal force is LETHAL force and shooting someone a LITTLE is just like shooting them a lot. Once the gun comes out and goes BANG everything changes. Its not just for funsies anymore.....And what happens when you try to play Lone Ranger and shoot dude in the gun hand and the bullet ricochets off his gun and into his carotid artery? Or you shoot dude in the leg because you "don't want to hurt him" and you hit him square in the femoral artery and he bleeds out in 60 seconds? Now what? Oooops? "Sorry, my bad"...? There is a reason that virtually all police departments including the FBI dropped "shooting to wound" as a strategy a half century ago. And the only people that argue for it is people who have ZERO experience with, or education in violence. So they should probably hop on their unicorn and ride it over the rainbow and stop making ignorant suggestions about things they have no idea about.

  36. I’m going to through the Ruger LC9S in 9mm. I have the Pro model and I love. So does my wife. They aren’t made anymore, but you still see them used. Ruger does still Make a version called the EC9S. The sights are cast as a part of the slide and finish is a matte type. They usually run around $250 or so. https://www.budsgunshop.com/mobile/product/52078/ruger+ec9s+9mm+312+black+7%2b1 If 9mm .38 pr .380 is just too much for her, check out .32ACP. There are several pistols available out there in this nice little round. Starting with a Keltec P-32. I had one of these I pocket carried all the time. When my oldest got her HCP, but didn’t have a pistol to carry, I gave it to her and bought a Ruger LCP. I actually miss that P-32. It s a great little pistol. I have a friend that swears by a Beretta Tomcat .32. Nice looking pistol and well built. Usually runs around $450. Lastly, as mentioned before, there are a bunch of Beretta Police Trade-Ins that have brought into the Country lately. They are Model 81s and come with 1 12 round mag, but they have spare mags available for a nominal price. I’ve been wanting one of these for myself, to be honest. When I had that little Keltec, I sorta fell in love with the .32 ACP round. I found it to be accurate and follow up shots were quick and easy. And at 9.6 oz that little Keltec was the perfect pocket carry. Just a tad lighter than the LCP, but with a lot less kick for such a small gun. https://www.budsgunshop.com/mobile/product/15204/kel-tec+cnc+p-32+p-32+7%2b1+32+acp++27" https://www.budsgunshop.com/mobile/product/25071/beretta+3032+tomcat+32+acp+inox+stainless https://www.classicfirearms.com/beretta-mod-81-pistol-surplus-used-good-very-good/
