Picked up a couple lever guns recently. Here is the first one. Looks like a standard Marlin 336 in 30-30 with a ugly scope and see thru rings. First off I took the scope and rings off. I do need to find plugs so the screws don't stick up. The reason this is an oddball is because this model was only made for about 3 years from late '79 till about '83. This is a Marlin 375 in .375 Winchester. You just do not see many of these around anymore. One of the nice things about .375 Winchester is that you can also shoot Buffalo Bore .38-55 in it. The next one is a Marlin 336 but in .44 Mag. I also picked up a Ruger Redhawk in .44 Mag to go with the Marlin.8 points

If you didn't feel you were in enough danger to shoot them in the chest then you were not in enough danger to shoot them PERIOD. Lethal force is LETHAL force and shooting someone a LITTLE is just like shooting them a lot. Once the gun comes out and goes BANG everything changes. Its not just for funsies anymore.....And what happens when you try to play Lone Ranger and shoot dude in the gun hand and the bullet ricochets off his gun and into his carotid artery? Or you shoot dude in the leg because you "don't want to hurt him" and you hit him square in the femoral artery and he bleeds out in 60 seconds? Now what? Oooops? "Sorry, my bad"...? There is a reason that virtually all police departments including the FBI dropped "shooting to wound" as a strategy a half century ago. And the only people that argue for it is people who have ZERO experience with, or education in violence. So they should probably hop on their unicorn and ride it over the rainbow and stop making ignorant suggestions about things they have no idea about.6 points

One of the biggest disservices done to new shooters and non shooters by ignorant gun salesmen is recommending the tiniest, hardest kicking , hardest to shoot accurately gun in the store because" it does not weigh too much for the little lady and it will fit in your purse" and usually when recommending a J frame it is "simple to operate and not as difficult to use as an automatic"..... You know what's NOT simple to operate? A car. And virtually all of these people can figure out how to get in the car, stick a key in the ignition, put it in gear, back it out of their drive way, use a turn signal (sometimes....) turn the wheel and apply the accelerator to move the car up and down the road, maintain a steady speed, apply pressure to the break to make it stop when they need to and check their mirrors when changing lanes. So even though their wife/mother/girlfriend/whatever somehow manages to move their one ton motor vehicle to and from work, the mall and church with monotonous regularity (often while texting and reading facebook at the same time) and they probably drove a car TO THE STORE they are apparently too stupid to operate a midsize semi auto pistol? REALLY? Buyer beware. Salesmen are good at what? Selling . And more times than not the experience level of those manning the gun counter and pertinent relevant experience with the products is not much more than the experience of the customer.3 points

Nutjobs on both the left and the right are warning that the evil "other side" won't accept the results of the election and suggesting that perhaps one should buy ammo. Meanwhile, as Ronald_55 just noted, anyone who was paying attention has been laying up supplies for years....3 points

There are a lot of training companies out there, in fact I work for a training company, but basically you train, get your CDL, then just be dependable and punctual. If you would actually like more in depth information, shoot me a PM and I can break it all down for you. I will give this warning. If you have a wife and kids at home, look elsewhere. I do not recommend this job for a family man. The costs to the family are very high.2 points

I love it. If you don’t mind being gone away from home for long stretches of time, you can move out to the sticks and get a significant pay raise.2 points

All my ammo and reloading supplies were lost in the boating accident. As a result I sold all my guns and invested in liquor futures and baseball cards.2 points

Well, I'm sure the GOP believes it will encourage more poor people to vote, but I'm not convinced that's the case, and I've not seen any studies that support the theory. As mentioned earlier, voting by mail may increase turnout among the elderly, and the older the voter, the more likely it's a GOP vote.2 points

Upon further review I think I might have misread the intent of the OP's friend's question.... So this question to Luke9511 , WHY exactly does your friend suggest they aim for arms legs and head? I apparently missed the head part and that does kind of change the dynamic. If he's willing to have them shoot for the head then his question is probably not coming from a "lets not hurt them" place. But not knowing WHY he is suggesting this course of action makes answering your question more difficult. There is a line of thinking that goes "the bad guys are likely to be wearing armor so we skip the thorax altogether and aim for pelvis or head to start with. That line of logic and the folks that are practicing that as "plan A" are NOT coming from the "police dealing with average street crimes pool". This is from folks who are more likely to A. be using long guns as primary weapons, B. to be engaging folks that are also armed with rifles and heavier weapons working in groups and B. engaging folks often with business affiliation with freelance pharmaceutical distribution from south of the US border. Another group that practices going straight to pelvis or head is one that guards political VIP types and for whom a major threat profile is armor wearing folks. Again, not the average street cop concerns or mission profile. And frankly if your friend saw the overwhelming majority of cops shoot he'd probably change his mind and say "shoot at the biggest thing you can shoot at ...from as CLOSE to it as you can get....."2 points

The sad thing is - is that it didn’t have to be that way. But the GOP sure seems intent on pushing as many people out of their tent as they can. Maybe they need to be defeated so soundly that it really is the end of the modern Republican Party. Because I’m afraid that’s the only way we’ll find some folks who can express what a conservative vision of the future looks like that’s more inclusive of what America actually looks like in 2020.1 point

This one hit close to me. My Mother's name was Margaret and even looked a little like this lady. We finally got her to stop driving at 90, when we found out that she was driving for miles on the rubble strip and didn't realize it and her friends were afraid to ride with her. She was always available to driver her older friends.1 point

A handgun should have a cylinder, a shotgun should have two barrels, and a rifle should have a lever. That is a nice pair. Most folks do not realize how high quality a rifle Marlin built before the Remlin takeover.1 point

I've been with the railroad for about 23 years. It's amazing how many divorces I've seen. It's also amazing how many people I've seen crack up and destroy a career.1 point

If they truly do rely as heavily on seniors as the past and present indicates, there are tons of “disenfranchised” old folks that can’t even use a mouse, much less navigate google.1 point

Thing is, If you didn't tell them and the box is not marked, you could be getting back issues of Knitting Monthly for all they know. BTW, I want to order ALL the guns you used to be able to catalog order. lol1 point

The real reason the GOP is so against mail in voting is because it will encourage more poor people to vote. There is no evidence it's going to lead to more voter fraud. Trump even established that voter fraud committee at the beginning of his term and they had to disband it after not finding the proof they were looking for. When I lived in Florida we always did mail in ballots and it was nice. After thinking about it, a lot of older people here are going to vote for Trump but they are also high risk and may want to stay home. Seems like the GOP might want to reconsider their stance or risk having people chose to stay home rather than go stand in a huge crowd. We know Georgia just failed miserably because they had fewer machines set up to help encourage social distancing. Elderly people can't stand in line for 3-4 hours.1 point

Well your luck sounds like mine on that lake. I know a lot of people go down there and have a great time. I'm just not one of them and it sounds like your trip was not all that great. Glad you got out away from things for a while. They say a bad day on the water is better than a great day at work. I think that is from people that just hate their jobs.....LOL. About the grass on lower units. I have had friends or known several people that burned up their lower units trying to push their boat through that grass so I never did get in the grass but just fished from the weed lines with motor in clear water.1 point

Man, a bit late to do that at good deals. Maybe it will settle out some between now and then. Though I would have to try REALLY hard to shoot up all my ammo. Plus I don't even reload and I have bought some primers now and again just in case. If all else fails you can cast and load with homemade black powder.1 point

We had roughly the same weather. To get to the channel from where we were, you had to go up or down the lake about a mile and find a hidden creek channel. Then you had to raise the motor and remove the bale of grass from the lower unit before you could get on plane. I only caught a couple of small bass and a few catfish. Missed one big bass on a buzz bait. My wife caught a few small bluegills. It also turns out that everything in northern Alabama is closed on Monday and Tuesday for some odd reason. We were almost to our rented cabin when we encountered a road closed sign. I looked and it was about 40 miles to go around. Luckily I have a 4 wheel drive truck and insurance on the boat. The road was washed off the hill, but not quite as closed as they made it out to be. i don’t think we’ll be going back either, Doug. I’ll never doubt you again. I1 point
