Just in case y'all don't already know......... The 1911 is a controlled feed system. Its designed for the case rim to slide up under the extractor when feeding from the magazine. NEVER drop a round into the chamber and close the slide on it. Doing so can bend or break the extractor. This is why some companies went to a spring loaded external extractor.3 points

I am no fan of the Yankees up North either.. Whereas the South I think has been loosening its gun laws , the Northern states have been making them more restrictive.. Vermont went from Libertarian to Authoritarian, for example. But, some of these laws go way back. I would think some restrictions may have to do with the South being part of the Older America versus being a more Pioneer independent mentality of some Western and Midwestern states. Of course, many of Western states are being plagued with Californiziation (aka Californication). The Northeastern states are pretty similar in banning guns on government property, except for exceptions like New Hampshire. New Hampshire is completely different than any other Northeastern state. I am from the Pacific Northwest and before all the Californians moved up there and changed all our laws to be more like their failed state, it was a very Live and Let LIve mentality. People just wanted the government out of their business and we had very low taxes, loose gun laws and there was still that pioneer mentality. Also, many of people who settled the part of Oregon I came from actually were pioneers from Kentucky, Tennessee and many other Southern states. Southern Oregon, where I am from, has a very strange history.. I also was just clarifying that it is perfectly legal in many Midwestern and Western states to bring your guns to a protest at a State Capital building. Usually people do it for anti-gun legislation type protests. I think it is absurd to go and bring your guns into a Capitol building to protest a non-firearm related issue. Obviously, the media will spin this as it was a bunch of terrorists. If government was going around arresting people at random, shooting dissenters and other heinous acts, then an armed protest would make more sense to me.2 points

Well, I hadn't been inside of a building other than my own digs for 41 days until yesterday. I could have gone another 2 or 3 weeks and still have been eating pretty well but I was out of lots of favs, fresh veggies, munchies, and whatnot. But I mainly went ahead on a stock up because I'm thinking things may again get quite "interesting" toward the end of May and beyond. I hit the Tuesday Morning Geezer Session at Sam's. I doubt there were more than 30 of us in the entire store, makes ya feel kinda special in an eerie way. Pretty amazing what they have and what they don't. As expected, meat was only about 1/3 of normal stock, with a one per on lots of meat items. But still plenty enough meat variety to stock up the freezer again, albeit at higher prices. But some stuff still MIA, like paper towels and toilet paper, pretty much expected, seems they get stocks on the mega bundles every few days, which apparently lasts a couple hours. Other absences a bit more mysterious, like butter of all things, birdseed, and whatnot. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE was masked. So I braved Wally's next door mainly for inferior birdseed, a few fishing tackle items (been walking down to the river some to wet a line since the shootin range has been closed), and did a quick tour through the food section. Amazingly well stocked, it seemed to me. picked up some unfulfilled items on the list. Again, I don't recall seeing ANYbody not wearing a mask. Then later in the day, my third trip, to Kroger to pick up remaining needs, mostly fresh veggies/fruit, canned goods, and cheap dopes. Pretty crowded for a Tuesday (was about noon by then), but what surprised me was that about a fourth of the crowd was NOT masked. So, anyway, I'm prepared to re-sequester for at least 60 days if it seems prudent, we'll see. You'll note that nationwide, the confirmed infections are still on the increase, and Monday was the highest death day yet. TN had 248/13 btw. So we'll see what the first 30 days of "reopening" does around the country, and of course especially here in Tennersee. - OS2 points

Vitamin D is a must during the winter. Might need to stretch that out further now. Or you could just sit outside in the sun all day...when it’s out.2 points

Those companies knew what they were doing when they did it. Was it criminal? Probably not, due to clear rules not being outlined. They just didn’t expect the President and the media to out them publicly. That’s what happens when you quickly legislate to pass out free money. It may be necessary to come back and change the rules because some dirt bags will try to take advantage and justify it by saying “That’s business”.2 points

I think what is happening here is that the manufacturers and their assemblers look at a 1911 like an AR. They simply assemble em and assume they will work... It takes time to adjust the old internal extractors... They simply roll the dice n wait on the complaints. Sigh... leroy1 point

Rock Island can make them work right out of the box. People say to “buy American”, but sometimes I don’t see the advantage.1 point

Both of my EMP's had way to much extractor tension right from the factory-seems like Springfield just installs the extractor and if FTE is experienced then adjust. Between Kimber and Springfield Armory a person never knows-either too loose or too tight.1 point

When one understands the relationship between gun control and the black codes, this isn’t so surprising. Of course while we may have some holdovers from our less than racially sensitive pasts, if you listen to the arguments being made for gun control by Yankees up north and squint, their clothes seem to get a whole lot whiter and flow-y, to the point of being almost robe-like.1 point

https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/vitamin-d-from-sun#bottom-line Regular sun exposure is the most natural way to get enough vitamin D. To maintain healthy blood levels, aim to get 10–30 minutes of midday sunlight, several times per week. People with darker skin may need a little more than this. Your exposure time should depend on how sensitive your skin is to sunlight. Just make sure not to burn.1 point

I'm stocked up on flour and yeast since I make bread, rolls, pretzels, bagels and the like. The wife goes every ten days or so... we are doing well on most everything we want including meats. Like most everyone else we normally don't buy family packs of meat but were forced into it. So we divided it up and packed it away in the freezer. We have bought a lot of our stuff lately on line so we are set. Unlike a lot of folks we have been moderate "preppers" for years so we aren't going to do without anytime soon. We have a small garden going with everything we want in it and still have some canned items from last year.1 point

About to just say forget it. The seller promised me the green since they didn’t have the red. When i said ok ship the green when is it going out i got this. /over it. I’d love to have seen if the ADE was worth having, but it’s not worth my sanity. Unless i have tracking today showing it has left I’m filing a refund request with ebay. I’ll just use my Viper and we will assume the ADE wasn’t meant to be.1 point

CCI Quiets will fire no problem, I believe they will even cycle the action. I know I have run through a couple boxes with mine no issue. I think Pro-Mag mags a 25 round magazine, but I haven't had very good luck with mine feeding very reliably. The only thing I have replace on mine is the extractor since the stock one decided to explode out of the bolt while shooting one day. My dad has that same one you have and he keeps it out on the porch for squirrel duty and it has been fine with literally zero maintenance1 point

My wife, an RN with extensive clinical experience, started everyone in the family on Vitamin D supplements two months ago. I just did as I was told and took the pill each morning. I'm glad she was right, but I'll never admit that to her.1 point

Evidence continues to mount that vitamin D deficiency strongly correlates to prevalence and severity of Covid 19 cases. Vitamin D deficiency is greater among the obese, the elderly, and Blacks, all of whom have been hit harder than other groups. I am stunned that Fauci and the WHO aren't suggesting that this *might* help. Please help spread the word on Facebook and other forums. People are dying while Fauci and the WHO drag their feet. Fauci seems more concerned about his legacy than saving lives. https://wattsupwiththat.com/2020/05/04/vitamin-d3-and-the-chinese-virus-coronavirus/1 point

20 trucks in my neighborhood today. Out of state crew set a bunch of new poles. Still no power - but it’s looking better than it did. I bribed a union crew (my kids) with Sonic to help with the tree that we lost. They took a bunch of breaks but got the job done.1 point

Well most people can’t put these side by side because they usually buy an ADE because they can’t afford the Viper I’m just looking for the diamond so I’ve decided to bite the bullet and buy both so i can do a comparison for everyone I’ve ordered both the ADE clone and picked up the Viper from Bass Pro. With the ADE being a high quality optic without the software of the Venom i suspect they are actually from the same sweatshop. $70 vs $250. We will find out in a few days when the ADE arrives.1 point

I'm curious to see where all the social distancing, disinfecting, etc. ends up. Seems to me that going totally nuts about cleaning could cause worse pandemics down the road. Herd immunity is best established by exposure. Vaccines are a big thing here, but not so much globally.1 point

For what it's worth, I've seen a couple of studies now showing a strong correlation between vitamin D deficiency and the severity of Covid 19 symptoms. It seems that something like 60% of Americans are deficient in D, 98% of deaths are deficient in D, and 87% of hospitalizations are deficient in D. A doctor in Turkey is studying 100 people to see if vitamin D is also a preventive, but the study won't end until July 31. Since vitamin D has other health benefits, I take a 5,000 IU gel cap of D3 every day. There are some rare risks if you have certain preexisting conditions, but you can research that online.1 point

It will no doubt be tried here if the democrats get control. It won’t work because our Constitution won’t allow it. What is in danger right now is states bans on AR’s. Until there is a SCOTUS ruling on whether or not their ban is a “reasonable restriction”; they could continue. I don’t think Tennessee would be one of those states; but you never know.1 point

I've probably hunted & killed a metric ton of skwerls in my life. Mostly in England. 99% with a .22 air rifle where head shots are imperative. A body shot will flat out not kill them. The other percent is a 50/50 mix of .22lr & a .410 single shot. I don't skwerl hunt much these days, but when i do, I have my .410 in my hand & a scoped Marlin .22 slung over my shoulder. I honestly think that both are essential. Squirrel hunting is far more successful if it's done in pairs. One with a shotgun, one a rifle.1 point

I've been a "minimal" survivalist for a good while now. As a townie, in an apartment. Just me. Assuming the water supply hangs in there, I can shut the door and not open it for at least 9 months. (only have 2-3 months water stored). Idea is that if the big balloon ever goes up, I can at least hang out for a while to see if life's still worth living in the aftermath of whatever would cause that. Assuming I don't get overrun by bad bipeds. This isn't that, but it will do till that comes. My last "close" contact with people was at Kroger on the 24th. I don't expect to do any more of that till May. Maybe longer, we'll see. Ain't skeered, just don't see a lot of reason for "mostly" social distancing since I can easily do it totally for a good while. - OS1 point
