When the boys were small, I would buzz their hair in the summer. First, I would make them a mohawk. They loved it. It didn’t stay very long, however, until mama made me finish the job.4 points

We're getting to a place pretty quick where a whole lot of systems that have always been otherwise generally reliable - suddenly don't work anymore. The second and third order effects of all of this are unknown. And they're really scary.2 points

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing on Friday of 5SFG Medal of Honor recipient (R)Command Sgt. Maj. Bennie G. Adkins. We mourn the passing of a distinguished member of the Special Forces Regiment. Our thoughts and prayers are with CSM Adkins’s family during this difficult time. De Oppresso Liber Take a minute out of your day to read the story of an amazing man we just lost: https://sofrep.com/specialoperations/march-9-12-1966-csm-bennie-adkins-awarded-medal-honor/?fbclid=IwAR0DyerNfHctTEZUbBbKtzO_MScklHghtADPUZ6ubDnCUU2-isnIBpPpFMI A small snippet to get you to click the link and read more: "During the 38-hour battle and 48-hours of escape and evasion, Adkins fought with mortars, machine guns, recoilless rifles, small arms, and hand grenades, killing an estimated 135 - 175 of the enemy and sustaining 18 different wounds." I used to think I was a badass. Then I started learning about these men and I quickly realized I had no idea what "badass" even meant. Think about how on earth a Match Director might take a situation like this and turn it into something that MOST people can finish in 3 minutes. And that ROs can reset with minimal time and effort 200 times in a weekend. And then you'll have an idea what you might expect for just ONE stage in this match.2 points

A friend asked me to take a look at his AR. He didn't know the terminology so just jam and misfire were all I had to go on. After a range trip, failure to feed was the issue and I guessed that it was likely short stroking. I started with cleaning and that made no difference. I took it back to the workbench and started looking things over and discovered this. It was hidden by the way that the two piece rail mounts over the hand guard cap. It has apparently been like this for a while too because the erosion on the gas port in the block was terrible. Luckily, he had already purchased a replacement gas block and tube so I went ahead and replaced both. I haven't taken it back out for testing yet but I'm pretty sure that I couldn't have possibly made it worse. Yall check your gas blocks!!!1 point

Cops get bit by K9’s all the time. Just like they get maced, and hit with night sticks and flashlights during fights. (I absolutely know that to be a fact. )You wouldn’t want to get involved when a K9 is attacking a perp. I’m sure some dogs are trained better than others, but I wouldn’t risk it.1 point

My name is Ryan, I am a Firefighter/Paramedic coming in from . . . . . . . . . . . California (shamed to say). Don’t worry, I never had that mentality, nor will I be bringing any glimmer of it with me. I am moving to TN (Spring Hill area) for my family, to raise them up the right way. I already have my carry permit as it was the first thing I did. I enjoy shooting 3-gun and other pistol competitions as I like the challenge to add stress to shooting scenarios. I also reload. Hopefully, I get the opportunity to learn the ins and outs of hunting as that is a skill that I have not had the opportunity to learn and then pass down to my children. Thanks for having me, I do hope to learn a lot then pass the knowledge to others. I sure am excited to shoot without having to modify my weapons to make it CA compliant.1 point

It's probably worth noting as well the number of regimes in this world where their whole economies are banked by oil exports. All that is falling apart right now - and you may see some folks get awfully squirrelly.1 point

I can't recall a single instance of "He seems like a great guy, I'll vote for him." It's always been "well, this one's better than nothing."1 point

Due to the entrenched structural nature of our political machine, it'll never happen, but were it, you'd have even less functional "coalition" governments like you see in Europe (Green Party f'cked that place up, hmmm....). Personally I'd rather see "None of the above" as an option. I don't hire the 'least offensive' candidate for my company based on a date on the calendar : I keep looking until I find the right candidate to fill the role. Why is politics any different?1 point

Sir, I respectfully disagree. What Trump is saying by removing all funding (and pulling back (out!) from UN, and other globalist organizations) is a continuation of his vision of America First, and a multi-polar political environment where we aren't the worlds Sugar Daddy. Outfits like the WHO, UN, etc., are so incredibly corrupted and politicized they have become inneffective (case in point: WHO response to China's handling of epidemic virus). They're broken, irretrievably (IMHO). I'm not debating whether they are effective or not, as I feel you suggest (pour in more money so the organization leans our way). They need to be scrapped, torn down, possibly prosecuted, and replaced wholesale. I agree with Trumps response, we're all on the same playground everyone shares called "The World", and the game being played isn't run fairly. I'd take my ball and go home, too. Y'all can have your own game of whatever-the-hell-you-wanna-call-it, I'm going to go over here and see if these guys want to play basketball. Just my take on the matter.1 point

If he couldn’t win in his own parties primary against Trump; he couldn’t beat him in an election.1 point

Read that again. A Republican running as a third party. Example (just an example, with no reason to suspect anything as such would happen) Romney running as an Independent because he thinks he can beat Trump for the Presidency.1 point

Which...is exactly how ALL the REPUBLICANS and ALL the DEMOCRATS want you think.1 point

I agree. That’s why I have said I don’t like him as a person. But he is a great President. We wanted a President that wasn’t a politician. That’s exactly what we got and prior to this, a booming economy to go along with it. I know you don’t think that economy would have continued, but he is a proven perform so far. I wish he would stop using Twitter. I wish he would quit making statements like “The Presidents power is absolute!” I wish he wouldn’t bait the idiots at the press conferences. But none of those things have any impact…none. I don’t know if he will be reelected, I can only pray that happens. I don’t understand how anyone, even a liberal, could let their hatred of Trump cause them to vote for any of the Democrat candidates we have now. And voting for anyone other than a Republican or Democrat is senseless. But then I never thought Americans would come that close to running a socialist. We are getting ready to either take an even bigger hit on our economy, kill a bunch of Americans, or both. All Americans should be concerned with that instead of dragging up old tweets from Trump. We all know he said those things. We all know he sometimes says stupid things; and we know why.1 point

Yes, this goes in this thread. A few weeks there was a discussion here about working from home and I stated that between telehealth patients I was refinishing a Model 63 Winchester .22 rifle. Not a great picture, but here is the finished work. This rifle was created in 1952 (3 years before me!) and purchased by my Dad. I shot it all my life and it is a great rifle! Over time the forearm cracked and could not be repaired, and of course, original parts for a 1952 Winchester are long gone. A few months ago I started looking on the internet and found a walnut forend for this gun on eBay for $45!. I ordered it and a friend worked the forearm down to fitting more closely. Jeff Walle did the final fit and put a new spring that drives the action in the gun. (It only lasted 68 years!) The last task was to get the forearm color to match the stock. Despite trying different stains, nothing worked. Then I found that linseed oil darkened the forearm to the same color as the stock. By the time I finished all with TruOil you see the result. I'm pleased with the stock/forearm color match. Finally I touched up the bluing (originally done by my Dad) with Brownell's Oxpho Blue and you see the final result. A good use of my "work from home" time!1 point

I agree. Sadly, most of ours are not like Vanessa and Charlie. Everybody is just so self absorbed anymore, and no desire to meet and really know each other. Way too long since the term "neighbors" actually meant something more than just those people nest door that you wave to now and then.1 point

I want to believe this. I have to believe this. I have to live my life as normal as possible during all this. If I don't, well I might as well just say f---it and roll over and die. Hell, I'm 68, wife's 67. Both of us fit the parameters of probable infection and illness. Likelyhood of getting it...high??? Surviving? Maybe. Sorry. I'm not responding too well to all this paranoia. Folks, pull it together. Please. For all our sakes and sanity.1 point

I really wish for once he could have admitted that he’s not the smartest guy in the room and deferred to those best equipped to handle this. What really kills me is that there was a golden opportunity to not only do good, but reinforce his goals of moving industry back to the US under the auspices of national security and general public welfare. If he could have come out with an honest “this is gonna suck for a while, but we will listen to the experts like Dr. Fauci and get through this together as Americans” and then pivoted to bringing back supply chains for things like pharmaceutical production back to the US as a national security necessity, he would have greatly helped the nation and also mitigated fallout from the economic downturn caused by COVID-19.1 point

Mind you - this is pretty much always true - but there are two groups of people from which you should never accept investment advice - politicians and people on the internet. This is a rare case where investing in futures could literally get you a lot more than you bargained for. That is - they're futures contracts and someone has to take physical delivery of the stuff. There are some edge cases here where that third Friday in May comes around and you have to figure out where you want to take delivery of your crude oil. Accepting delivery seems to be the major issue right now - everyone's reserve stores are basically at capacity - there's nowhere to put it.0 points
