Farmers and tradesmen in small towns north of Boston faced off against the world's best soldiers who were sent to confiscate a couple of small cannons and other weapons. The movie 'April Morning' is worth watching, if you can find it.7 points

I'll bring this thread back to life... In the midst of this madness, we brought this guy home Easter weekend. A friend of my wife's dogs unexpectedly had 13 puppies and it was time for our boys to have another dog. He's a black lab, Black Russian terrier mix, we named him Shadow. He leads a hard life around here.... Potty training is still very much a work in process at this point, some apparent tummy issues aren't helping. Otherwise he's very good natured and is learning the basics reasonably well. Our cat (the turd) is unconvinced, which suits me fine.4 points

Yes on that day 89 men fro 23 towns in Massachusetts were killed or wounded in Concord. By the next morning Massachusetts had 12 regiments in the field. Within 1 week 16,000 men from 4 New England colonies formed a siege outside British occupied Boston. The British thought every able-bodied male had become a soldier.2 points

36" Exmark Walk-behind, no Sulky, wore out 2 pair of sneakers per season! Blood pressure was never better, tho! It was the yard-gates that kept me small, I only had a small trailer, didn't want to bring 2 mowers, so if the 36 didn't fit, I didn't cut it (and there were a few smaller gates I had to pass on the jobs). Now my fat a$$ rides a 42 Husq around the property... what I wouldn't give for my old ExMark! I started my hardscaping at my own home. Neighbor liked the work, asked if I could do one for him. His buddy liked the work, asked if I could... Kudo's for your attitude @hlb14, that's the one thing you can't teach someone. You'll be just fine. Word of mouth is the best, stay away from Craigslist... nothing but fruitloops on the internet dontchaknow!2 points

I had two Malamutes years ago when my girls were growing up. Great dogs and NOBODY got near my girls when they were around.1 point

I always look at what I'm trying to accomplish and then make a selection based on that. Hunting, weight retention and expansion. Dangerous thick skinned critters, heavy, solid, large meplat etc. Never really looked at the marketing/ company description stuff since I started reloading. I focus on the simple truths. Weight, intended bullet function, coefficient. From there everything is an equation I can plug into a calculator.1 point

First was 2003, just before the ban sunset. Bushmaster ”postban”. Paid $1100 and was just glad to buy it. Bought a WASR-10 AK for $299 that same week, along with some cases of Wolf for $69/1K in 7.62x39 and $79/1K for .223. Pinned stock (can’t actually collapse it), muzzle brake, no bayonet lug. That one is long gone.1 point

If you trust your neighbor, that's the best endorsement right there. He's hired the contractor, twice. Doesn't mean something can't go wrong, $hit happens? Hauling into the woods is a lot easier than chipping, and greatly impacts his cost: he can bring the tractor with a trailer and pickup, climb the tree and drop it safely in the yard with ropes by himself? 2-man crew, no equipment. MUCH cheaper than a couple white guys, 5 mexicans, 2 large commercial trucks, bobcat, stump grinder, chipper... You're looking at $300 in Diesel just to show up with a crew like that. OK, $200 w/ today's fuel prices, but you get the idea? Even a big pine (~40-foot?), can be on the ground in 3-4 cuts. Put a rope on the back of the tractor to pull, could drop it in one if you have the space, cut it in a couple pieces, drag each off into the woods. Done and over in 30-minutes per tree, you can rake the sawdust. Good payday, frankly... If your neighbor is satisfied, if you can observe the person working and are satisfied with what you see... get a couple copies of their business card. Sounds like you may have found a good one!1 point

I would just go with an adjustable gas block. I doubt a heavier buffer would fix all the issues.1 point

I haven't done much comparing. Did Skype a few years ago and it was ok. My wife uses FaceTime but that is Apple only. My wife started using Zoom for a weekly meeting after everyone was told to stay home and seemed to work so I got an account and setup a gathering of 3 friends and it worked so well we schedule lunch together once a week now. We used Zoom on Easter to visit with family, 6 of us in 3 states, worked good. Zoom has a free mode that is unlimited time for two people but limits you to 40 minutes for more than 2. They gifted me unlimited on my first 2 gatherings. The latest they cut us off at 40 minutes but we could restart the meeting and continue. I think one level up from free is $15/month or $150/year, unlimited time and up to 100 people.1 point

If you already have a need for a commercial mower picking up some yards will make a little more sense. I used a 42” Exmark walk behind in the late 90s for a few weeks, but other than that I have mostly used 48”. I have seen a few 32-33” walk behinds used by some people I know and trust their judgements. I think I have seen more Bobcat brand than any. Their reasoning was entering backyard gates. The absolute best mower I ever used was a 48” John Deer hydro walk-behind. It gave over a decade of reliable service without many surprises. However, I am a huge Snapper fan but the new ones don’t have a attachment for a sulky and can be a little heavy.1 point

Yep. Mom in Chattanooga already has several. We put feeders out last weekend and I saw our first hummer yesterday.1 point

Ride through some of the neighborhoods. If you see more landscapers than you see yards that need to be cut it’s a sign the market is saturated with landscapers.1 point

This whole situation is very interestin, and a real lesson in the truth that " elections mean things "... The people of VA have been sold out to the carpetbaggers in Northern VA and the VA Beach area... We have some of that same potential in the Memphis n Nashville area, as well as pockets in the east.. Beware... Watchin leroy.1 point

What’s the saying we love to employ around here for when folks are looking at buying stuff and thinking about cheating out on gun parts? Buy once, cry once. Tree removal is a job for the professionals, and the professionals only.1 point

That’s why I choose .40S&W for carry over .45ACP. Capacity and concealability is 100% the reason for my choice. And which is a better round is 0%. .45ACP is a better round, but not good enough to give up capacity and concealability. If I get myself into something 13 or 15 rounds of .40S&W can’t get me out of; I probably deserve what happens next.0 points
