Well guys at 67killed my first turkey, only hunted turkeys a couple times in my life. Funny thing I was out back stacking firewood and heard him gobble about 100 yards down in a bottom. I broke and ran and put on some camo grabbed my 870, seat and eased out front of barn into the woods about 60 yards. Sit down cut at him and he waited 5 minutes and gobbled, he wouldn't answer me but about every 4 or 5 minutes he would gobble. About 20 yards to my 2 o'clock came a lone hen and she messed around for 5 minutes hunting her sister I guess. I putted to her as she was walking away, she turned looked and eased off. Gobbler gobbled in same place so after 5 minutes I decided to move half way to him, I stood up and was getting my seat and he gobbled 50 yards down the hill. Now it was getting interesting. I sat down got gun on my monopod, flipped safety off and every few minutes would putt at him. Since this was my first turkey and not videoing I didn't waste much time when he came in, at 25 yards with a 2 3/4" #6 reload I put him down, he was flopping pretty good and I shot him again with a 3" #5, made him a jellyhead. Spurs were 3/4" with a 9 1/2" thick beard. Didn't have a scale, but a nice turkey. 2 or 3 weeks before season I saw 3 longbeards 40 yards from my window at computer desk, so I knew we had a few. Sorry for the long post. I ain't saying I am hooked, but if I had went fishing I wouldn't of got him. Shot him at 1:05P.M.4 points

I spend an inordinate amount of time away from home out in the truck. With the better weather as of late my wife has been sending me more pics of the kids as they are spending time playing outside together. Those pics and videos are what gets me through these weeks away from home. They let me see what I’m out here working for.3 points

I'm thankful for the family reboot that is happening. My 21 y/o daughter is home from college. My 14&16 y/o son's lives were so busy with school and sports but now we are all at home spending time together, time that I never thought would happen again. Yes the current world situation sucks but hearing my 3 almost grown kids laughing and having fun together is pretty nice.3 points

Possibly. I think the opening might be too large without anything in there and so the gas might not actually get out, if that makes sense. I also think having a hole that large in the side of your upper is not a great idea. It leads right to the bolt is just begging for debris. Another option would be trying one of the suppressor ready charging handles like the Raptor SD.2 points

We need to remember the GOOD things in life! You know, it has never really taken much effort to find bad news if you wanted to look for it, but lately it seems like you have to actually expend effort to find good news. I think that's a shame. To be very honest, I think if we quarantined the world's media for 30 days or so and no one heard from them during that time, all of us would be a heck of a lot happier at the end of it. Since we can't force a media black-out, I figured we could use this thread to post about the things are keeping us HAPPY these days. Share a photo or just share a story. Let's keep it apolitical and leave the memes to other threads. I want to know what is personal for YOU. Here's something that keeps me happy daily. This is maybe the first photo of my almost three-month old daughter outside of the delivery room. You'd never know by looking at her that this girl has a date with a surgeon later this year to repair a partially cleft soft palate or that she has to wear a blood-oxygen monitor on her foot around the clock, every day, because that cleft causes her to be at high risk for sleep apnea. She's the object of constant affection from her older brother and sister, and makes me and her mom smile from ear to ear. Alright... what's keeping you all happy lately?2 points

My kids and I were walking in our neighborhood the other day. Being in Brentwood, the back of my neighborhood is home to a bunch of turkeys that no one seems to have told that spring turkey season is going on. They’re safe and fat. Anyway, my kids and I were walking and came upon about 30 hens and two big toms who were all out in full strut. My 8 year old gobbled at them - not expecting a reaction - and you’ve never heard such a ruckus. They were so mad at him. He was kind of hidden by a bush, and the toms came to investigate. It was great once he realized they were coming his way - at which point he lost his nerve and high tailed it down the street. His sisters laughed all the way home.2 points

I agree. That’s why I have said I don’t like him as a person. But he is a great President. We wanted a President that wasn’t a politician. That’s exactly what we got and prior to this, a booming economy to go along with it. I know you don’t think that economy would have continued, but he is a proven perform so far. I wish he would stop using Twitter. I wish he would quit making statements like “The Presidents power is absolute!” I wish he wouldn’t bait the idiots at the press conferences. But none of those things have any impact…none. I don’t know if he will be reelected, I can only pray that happens. I don’t understand how anyone, even a liberal, could let their hatred of Trump cause them to vote for any of the Democrat candidates we have now. And voting for anyone other than a Republican or Democrat is senseless. But then I never thought Americans would come that close to running a socialist. We are getting ready to either take an even bigger hit on our economy, kill a bunch of Americans, or both. All Americans should be concerned with that instead of dragging up old tweets from Trump. We all know he said those things. We all know he sometimes says stupid things; and we know why.2 points

As an arm of the UN, I don’t support us funding it on general principles. I fully believe we should withdraw from the UN and expel it from our shores as an actively hostile entity and threat to US interests and national security.2 points

I dont see Glock ever making a steel magazine and that's what it will take to duplicate the shield mag. I have 4 of the shield mags now, one of which I put the plus % spring in (I have the springs for my others). I have shot upwards of 900 rounds through my 43x, mine is the black slide but I have several friends with the silver slide 43x and have watched them shoot countless rounds through theirs. I had one mag that initially wouldnt hold back the slide occasionally... that was fixed with the +% spring or realistically me not riding the damn slide. I have had just as many issues out of factory mags as I have the shield mags (which is suffice it to say none). The 43x has completely killed the 26 for me, it no longer has a purpose, I still think the 19 and 45 point better but is a thick big lead brick compared to the 43x when it comes to carry (I have the 48 it doesnt blow my skirt up). Wait until shield releases the mags for the 43... and then the venerable old 36 everyone has forgotten about.1 point

If you post here what you're interested in valuing, we could take a crack at it. A million monkeys, with a million type writers, and 30 seconds. We'll get you numbers, for sure! Seriously though, you could also call your local shops and see if they'd be willing to help you out with finding a reasonable valuation.1 point

Virginia should secede from NoVa and rejoin West Virginia as I am told is legally acceptable in their State Constitution and let the greater Washington DC metro become one state. In fact, maybe they can just expand District of Columbia to include NoVA and they can have their happy little socialist police state led by their former Klansman Governor. https://wset.com/news/local/vexit-west-virginia-extends-158-year-old-invitation-for-va-localities-to-join-state1 point

My daughter has horses and boards them on a man's farm in Rockvale. Someone let loose with a pistol, last week, and the horse she was cleaning it feet on, liked to step on her. She was huffed off big time. No problem shooting in Rutherford county, that I know of. Been doing it, in my back yard, for 40 years. Do have a good backstop.1 point

I don't automatically assume your friend can't do it, but I would have to know how much he has done it. My best friend and I aren't professional tree arborists, but I am confident I can take down any tree I would need to myself (with help of course). A lot depends on what equipment he has available. Lots of country boys could do it in their sleep, but there are plenty who I also wouldn't let near one. Depends on the person. Then again, if you aren't sure yourself how to do it, I suspect you may not be a good judge of if they can do it. That being said, I don't think he knows enough about it simply based on the idea he thinks he will sell it to a mill. Not going to happen most likely and anyone who knows much about it probably wouldn't have even brought it up.1 point

What’s the saying we love to employ around here for when folks are looking at buying stuff and thinking about cheating out on gun parts? Buy once, cry once. Tree removal is a job for the professionals, and the professionals only.1 point

I try not to begrudge the conspiracy theorists; they need something to occupy their time same as me, I suppose. But would it be too much of an ask for them to come up with something entertaining instead of pushing garbage that can be debunked in 5 seconds as krunchnik did above?1 point

I wouldn’t do that. That valve directs the gas away from the face and body. I suspect an open port that large, besides just being a bad idea on general principles, will cause way more gas to hit the face then before. Even though most may be directed to the shoulder, it’s still gonna hit the face.1 point

I believe you are incorrect in the bolded portion. A lot of folks like to posture that they care about the principles that Amash walks the walk on, but they don’t. Now, if they were honest they would admit that they really do want an authoritarian in charge, they just want their authoritarian in charge. They want to be taken care of by the government and they want the people they don’t like to get taken care of by the government.1 point

When I was four years old my Pop started teaching me to shoot with a .22 single shot. I wasn’t strong enough to handle it in a manly fashion, so I shot cans up , while resting it on a stool. Fast forward to college at University of Tennessee, and I started shooting on the rifle team (club). We got to shoot Anshutz Target rifles. Later I was a member of the ARCOM Rifle Team and I shot a Winchester 52D. Over the years, I’ve had a number of different makes and models, Nylon 66s, Mossberg Plinksters, Ruger 10/22s and a really sweet Remington 521T (still have it). But the rifle I love the most is that Winchester 67, that I learned to shoot on, back in 1967! My favorite pistol, is a Ruger MkIII Bull Barrel Target Pistol.1 point

They now believe that very few people are infected with casual interaction or torching surfaces. They believe most transmissions are from extended interactions in a confined area. (Work home, school) Is that true? I have no idea. So even if schools are not started back up, but Mom and Dad are working; the chances of the kids being infected if the parents are infected are pretty good. If school resumes the chances are even greater. The CDC estimates 61,000 people died during the 2017–2018 influenza season. We didn’t shut anything down.1 point

My first post in the forum will be my first AR. I bought it Fall of 2017. It’s a S&W M&P15 Magpul Spec series with the SL furniture. I’ve not done many mods other than the obvious Eotech & VTAC QD sling. Mostly I’ve just bought ammo and mags. The Eotech was added after this past Christmas. I did just notice the AFG, which was a Christmas gift. I like it a lot, but I’m planning 3 builds right now: currently working on a Betsy Ross Aero Precision lower to fit with an 18” SPR inspired upper, which will be my wife’s first gun. The second is a 13.7” build, (pinned & welded muzzle device). My third is kind of optional, but I’d like to build an 11.5” pistol or SBR, but we’ll see. Anyway, that’s enough from me.1 point

Conspiracy Theories, Coronavirus, TGO and YOU For as long as I can remember, TGO has never really provided "safe waters" for people who want to preach conspiracy theories and rile-up the masses. There are plenty of places for that sort of thing on the Internet and yes sometimes the conspiracy enthusiasts (or nuts, if you so prefer) are proven right in the end. But since there are so many other places for it and since we feel that the ravings of fringe believers tends to bring down the property value, we prefer that our members engage in discussions based in reality. Lately the moderators have begun removing posts fanning the flames of conspiracy around the COVID-19 novel coronavirus pandemic. Generally speaking, I am supportive of their actions. Here's why: Priorities First and foremost, we have a present problem to deal with so let's start by putting our focus there. We have members who are and have been personally affected by COVID-19 and chances are this is just the beginning. If we are going to invest our mental and emotional energies into something, let's invest them in encouraging, supporting and helping our own community. Respect Again, we know that we already have members of TGO affected by this pandemic. So far they (and we) have been fortunate and it's turned out well. That could change. We don't want that to happen, but the statistical projections indicate that by the time the dust settles none of us will have many degrees of separation from someone that died as a result of the virus. I just think maybe it's a little disrespectful to the people currently fighting this virus and eventually to those who lose the battle for us to sit around and imagineer boogeymen behind a virus that science currently says evolved naturally. Stay In Your Lane, Bro Following right in behind the matter of respect is the simple fact that unless you're an educated, degreed, certified ass-kicking virologist, geneticist, research scientist, or have data from a respected source that is... you should probably stay in your lane. Remember the Great Toilet Paper Shortage of 2020? That happened because social media said there was a shortage of toilet paper. So the people believed it, reacted like scared sheep, and ran right over the edge of the cliff with arms full of Charmin. There's no reason for us to allow the next big social media fear-fest to start with or take root on TGO. We can control what happens here, so our intent is to manage it so that there's at least one place you can visit online that doesn't feel like the lunatics are running the asylum. You're welcome for that. Even if you don't appreciate it right now. And So What If That Conspiracy Theory Is Accurate? The President, love him or hate him, has already said that there are going to be consequences on the other side of this current situation for the way that China mishandled this. Even if they didn't bio-engineer it, their government hid the outbreak from the world until it was busting out of their borders. So far the Prez has done everything he's said he would do... right or wrong... so we can be pretty confident that the US isn't going to just let this slide. So, even if the latest conspiracy theory is accurate... you and I can't do a thing about it. Establishing and maintaining a military to preserve our sovereignty, the strength of our borders, and the security of our interests is the one thing that the government should be doing. It's maybe the only reason the government should exist if you ask some. But they are equipped to do something about it. Not us. Not even Chuck Norris. Let's let the government handle the boogeyman. And if they need our input on that, there will be an appropriate time to tell our elected representatives what we'd like to see done. And I'm sure that our actual scientists will be following up on all credible leads that help them expedite a treatment or vaccine for COVID-19. So if that takes them back to a secret lair somewhere in Communist China where they're having unprotected sex with bats while eating live frogs... so be it. In the meantime, let's stay grounded in reality here. It's scary enough and it requires our full attention.1 point
