We have done this a couple of times in the past. Since the increase in traffic at TGO since Covid-19 I thought it was a good time to bring it back. I am donating Qty 10 6 month benefactor memberships. The rules are as follows: 1) you mush have been a member at least 1 month prior to this post 2) you need to have at least 10 posts. 3) you can't currently be a benefactor. Thats it. If you meet these requirements then post in this thread that you want to be included in the drawing. I will keep this open through the weekend. Sunday evening or Monday morning I will take all the names and put them into a randomizer and select 10 users for the membership. The hope is that after your membership is up that you will renew and continue to support this site financially.16 points

Hey yall. I'm still around and kicking. Just not goin out and trying to catch that nasty bug the is going around. My Daughter and SIL have been doing all my errand running since they both are still working. SIL(Tommy) is Superintendent on a big construction site in downtown Nashville and all of his employees are wearing N95 masks that are required for their job spraying fireproofing and my daughter is doing home healthcare 1 on 1 in the persons home and she is also wearing scrubs and a N95 mask while at work so they do my shopping while they are out. Tommy gave me an N95 mask to wear when they come in the house to bring supplies and once they leave I spray what they bought with Lysol and let it sit a few minutes. Once I have things put up I wash my hands with soap and hot water and then add hand sanitizer to the mix. According to the map of counties with the virus the county I live in which is Smith only has 3 recorded cases and I'm trying to not be number 4. Hope all of you stay clear of it. Stay safe my friends!!8 points

Absolutely, and I wouldn’t care if I had an escape route; I wouldn’t need to go anywhere. This question came up before about a guy that stabbed his girlfriend to death in a car at a gas station. I was surprised how many said they would watch and be a good witness. I would have given him an opportunity to surrender and if he didn’t; I would have killed him. I hope someone else that would do the same would be around if that happened to my wife or daughter. I understand the laws governing the use of deadly force and I do not fear the government, therefore I have no reason not to act.6 points

Also, would our media please grow some balls and quit referring to these scumbags caught, quite literally, red handed as "suspects"? MURDERER. It's real easy to type. M-U-R-D-E-R-E-R. Hell, I bet Microsoft Word will even auto-complete it for them if they just start typing it.5 points

John Lovell said something in one of his most recent videos about this. It struck home. I've thought about this before but never had the right words for it and I think he nails it. "I didn't prepare enough to be generous."5 points

I am an old sheepdog. It is my nature to protect. Even with my family I'd direct them to leave via the escape route while I engaged as long as I saw it as viable.4 points

Back before I knew any better I took my HCP course from Buford "nine fingers" Tune. He loved the expression be a good witness. If it does not involve you then stay out of it and be a good witness. While I think this is good advice it is also problematic because I couldn't sit and watch someone get killed. It would weigh on my conscious if I could have helped and didn't. I guess the cop out answer is it depends on the situation. I'd like to think I would intervene but unless I am put into that situation I guess I will never know.4 points

After 26 years in the military they decided for me that I'd take every pill/shot/ vaccine under the sun and I can honestly say nothing gave me side effects. I get a flu shot every year and yeah all the supplements known to man that would help me. I'm 71 and am a quad bypass survivor for 12 years now. I'd take anything they offered as a cure...even that stuff that Trump has spoken of if would get people out of the house and back to work before we end up a damn banana republic. While not working myself I'd gladly take it anyway to make sure I couldn't possibly effect the working man with a mortgage, wife and four kids depending on him. I'm sick of the Constitution and Bill of Rights being trampled.4 points

64% of the country lives paycheck to paycheck. Regardless of income level also. I know several people that make 100k a year and are paycheck to paycheck. I hope this is a wakeup call for many. If you add in how many have only 1-3 months of savings that number will scare you.4 points

"It suggested he may not be mentally well." Is that code for “He was a terrorist, but we don’t want to call him a terrorist, or call this a hate crime just because he killed three innocent women and seriously injured a fourth.”?4 points

It just dawned on me the tremendous economic impact this situation is going to have on local and state governments that rely heavily on sales tax revenue. No business, no sales tax revenue. Less travel, less gas tax revenue, etc., etc.3 points

Pardon the late quip, but is the surgeon general’s outfit any worse than police chiefs across the nation donning the 5 star insignia only worn by nine men who achieved the highest rank the US military offers?3 points

I would hope as CoronaMania eventually starts to pass, people can realize their pantry is still full of all the just in case stuff they bought. From there, should be easy to donate at least some of it to organizations that will be doing what they can to help those who need some time to let a job market come back so that can get a new pair of bootstraps to pull themselves up by.3 points

But seriously, I grew up a poor kid without a father and we always had a big garden. To this day I still do some canning and a lot of freezing. This last go round with covid I topped off my supply of TP and wine along with a few other items and I'm set for months. I even order my coffee in bulk and freeze it by the pound. If anybody hasn't purchased a vacuum sealer like the Foodsavers do it now. I freeze everything from leftovers to coffee.3 points

I don’t think anyone who hasn’t been in that kind of situation before can definitively answer that question. That said, somebody who has never even begun to ponder the thought is probably a lot more likely to freeze up when faced with it.2 points

Are you surprised? Think of the percentage of Americans that only eat takeout, prepared frozen, and deli foods. Now add in the paranoia factor and you've got all these people who can't cook rice hoarding any food they can find.2 points

I'm going to point out that it's possible for it to be a combination of all of those things (Mental health, racial angst, misogynistic view of women, religious extremism) and any one those factors is capable of exacerbating the others and becoming a catalyst. I hope William Aprill does a review of this one after the facts become known. His "They Are Not You" segments on social media are excellent. Carry your gun and keep your head on a swivel, people. The world isn't getting any nicer. Exactly the opposite.2 points

Up to you. We only allow you the luxury o f posting it here. Think of it as a public service for benefactors. Speaking of which, we all depend on this website for a variety of information. If you're not a benefactor you should be. Chip in and keep things running here. Kudos to David and those who keep us up and running. Show your appreciation by spending a few bucks.2 points

Good advice! I actually signed up for a 2-hour private lesson with one of the instructors at Shoot Point Blank. Tomorrow he’ll walk me through firing the shotgun. I figured that if my kids gifted it to me and I have it in the house, I need to learn how to use it properly.2 points

I don't know. That's the honest answer. The situation would dictate what I might, or might not, do. I pray I never have to find out. That being said, with there we live, there's always a possibility I might have to find the answer within myself someday. Kharman, if you don't mind, when did you take Buford's class? As near as my feeble mind can remember around 1998 for me. And I just ran across the completion certificate a couple weeks ago. But didn't really pay attention to the date.1 point

If you have any space at all might look up straw bale gardening. Easy to set up and you can just pull it out when you are done. Or I have seen some good stuff grown in 5 gallon buckets. Either way you can minimize killing out grass and still get some fresh stuff. Yeah fruit is hard unless you have room and time to do trees. I have a small patch of strawberries, but they don't yield much since I don't do all the necessary maintenance. The lone peach tree that was in our woods when we moved in has all the fruit disappear when it is still rock hard. I do have a lemon bush that I got from my Dad who it turn grew it from seed off a bush at my granddad's. May be a couple more years before I see anything off it though. They grow to about ping ping ball size and are completely spherical. Not the standard ones you see in the store. Not sure if that bush woudl do any good in a container.1 point

Several years ago I got a bolt on tri-fuel kit for my generator from US Carburetion . Gas/propane/natural gas option without permanent modification to your carburetor. I caught it on a 50% off sale so that was nice. My gas reserve is earmarked for my cars, so the propane and natural gas for the generator is my main plan. (The main difference is the supply lines for the natural gas need to be larger due to the lower pressure than propane.) Mine actually runs better on the propane than gas. The first choice is the natural gas due to the "theoretical endless supply" of natural gas to my house unless the gas company goes down. Then switch to the propane. https://www.motorsnorkel.com/motor-snorkel-tri-fuel-natural-gas-propane-and-gasoline-conversion-kit-4390.html1 point

Actually, it was ok for a couple of weeks, with the exception of eggs, and paper products. Can goods, milk and meat were almost back to normal levels. Then I noticed this week , can goods became scarous. Actually, the restaurants around here seem like they are doing a brisk business with takeiout. Tried to get takeout at a local Japanese restaurant last night and couldn't get through on the phone. So I went down to go through the drive thru and there was a line of cars all the way around the building. Ended up getting Arby's, from across the street.. I was the third car in line there. My son is also a server at a local restaurant. He was laid off for two weeks, then got called back in and has worked everyday since, but two. He's doing VERY WELL with the tips!1 point

US ammo manufacturers are mostly going t be affected by the higher cost of raw materials. Copper used for cases and bullet jackets has seen a large jump. Aside from that, common loads are unlikely to stay scarce for long simply because manufacturers will produce those to meet demand first. If you were that once a year (or every two years) production of Remington .250 Savage, you may have a long wait. I've heard that the Winchester plant in Mississippi is running full blast. It is mostly automated and able to encourage 'social distancing' while still staying in high production mode. Loads like Winchester 9mm 'White Box' (made in Israel) and Remington/UMC 'Value Packs' .380/9mm/.45 (made in Mexico) may be affected due to the slow down in transportation from outside the country. Brands like Barnaul and Wolf bring in a freighter load at a time. For them it depends how much inventory is already here and how much is already in the pipeline. The biggest factor is how long the hysteria continues. The sooner folks get over it, the sooner we will see a return to normalcy. Our mainstream media is very good at drumming up hysteria as that is what they are selling.1 point

I've joked we'll be getting back to normal when people argue over whether or not to get a COVID-19 vaccine for them and their kids. I'm taking the shot as soon as the FDA says it's safe and folks more at risk have had a chance for it first (assuming supply will need some time to catch up for population en masse).1 point

My Cub Scouts are working on the same requirement. Well, we were a few weeks ago... Brim and bluegill are easy to catch and fight just enough to be fun for kids. My best advice is KISS.... live worms, small hooks, a bobber, and go find a local fishing pier or just stand on the bank where the water isn't moving fast and there isn't much debris to get hung up on. Go when it's warm and the fish will be more active near the surface. We've caught bunches of them standing on the bank near any of the multitude of boat ramps. If you've got more than one kid, don't plan to do much fishing yourself. You'll be busy helping them the whole time. Edit... this is a great way to teach kids patience in a world of instant gratification. If you're not having luck, change your depth, move 100 yds down the bank... or just wait longer. You can spend an hour with without a nibble, and then all of a sudden you can't bait the hooks fast enough. That's just how it is.1 point
