  1. We finally got good news today. The missus tested negative for CV. She still has has that pesky mid range fever that comes and goes though. The doctor prescribed a ZPAK and something else that I picked up this morning. She already says she is feeling better.

  2. Folks, I’d like to ask that you keep a friend, and former regular poster here, in your prayers. I won’t mention him by name, but his daughter has CF and has been getting sick. Just praying that she is able to remain well enough to stay out of the hospital and away from an increased risk of coming into contact with COVID-19. Thanks.

  3. It isn’t the manufacturing sector that has shut down, it’s the service sector. That’s become such a huge portion of our economy as we have transitioned from a manufacturing economy to a service/consumption market. I don’t have enough sense to throw my in own two cents, but I really do believe that on the back end of this as a country we need to reevaluate what kind of economy we want to be. If this whole thing is bringing anything home to me, it is the inherent risk of our vastly globalized economy and supply chains. Sure, farming out our manufacturing to third world nations has allowed us to fill our homes with a bunch of cheap crap, but at what cost?

  4. Morality aside - it doesn’t matter what Trump says. The economy isn’t going to open back up until this is under control. It’s not like the economy is just some magic machine - it takes people. And if the people get sick and are dying - they’re not going to work. And, it’s a demand shock that our economy can’t really handle regardless. 80% of American GDP is consumer spending. Well, what happens when no one is buying? I get it that Trump is upset that six of his hotels are closed. I get it that the airlines are upset that no one is flying. I get it that the cruise companies (that are largely foreign flagged to bypass labor laws) are upset no one is taking their vacations. But, if I told you that right now you could fly to New York, take a chartered bus across the city, stay in a nice hotel, have dinner in a fancy restaurant, then get on a cruise the next day and spend the next two weeks touring all the ports in Italy - and you can do it for $20/person. Would you do it? That’s the heart of our problem right now. When you can’t sell at any price - it doesn’t matter what the political class says. People aren’t buying. And, they’re not going to change that behavior until this pandemic is under control.

  6. Dang man, I hate it that it took a pandemic to make that obvious. I have been preaching that since way before Donald Trump was ever a consideration. I doubt you will be alone in coming to that realization, but I bet you are one of the few to openly admit it.

  7. No matter how much he is hated; it does matter what the President of the United States says. If he has the support of Medical professionals; people will go along with what he says. Will asking people to go back to work cause the economy to recover? Not completely, people won’t be vacationing, traveling, or flying; but they may have an income. I’m a 65 year old former smoker. So I’m high risk. I am retired and work part time from home. Would I be willing to go to work and risk getting a virus that kills ~1% of those infected, if it would help keep our economy from collapsing? Absolutely. My wife woks for a food company and their employees are “essential” and are working. My wife is putting herself at risk to help. I couldn’t ask that of her and me not be willing to do it.

  8. So true, what are you gonna do shoot the virus?? I think it is wise to have some ammo on hand for a rainy day. For some that is 1000, for some 100,000. That isn't my business nor do I care. In a SHTF scenario unless you are in a tank or armored vehicle I doubt you are going to shoot more than 3 or 4 mags before getting shot yourself. You see it ain't like deer hunting as they don't shoot back.

  9. me either...but we have seen plenty of other members tout the great deals they received from them. It is what it is. Everyone has a choice whether to pay exorbitant pricing or wait for better days. I mean really does anyone here actually think they are gonna need another 500 rounds of ammo to fight off what? TP Looters, Sick Coronavirus patients that can't even breathe, I mean whats the impetus for hoarding ammo of all a sudden? During Sandy Hook it was the possibility of losing the ability to purchase an AR...I mean there was a little bit of reason to that argument...but now? I mean really...ask yourself why the hell you need more ammo then you had 3 weeks ago? I guarantee most can't come up with any logical explanation or reason.

  10. Honestly this will last til whenever the Coronavirus burns itself out...then a couple months later all these vendors will get delivered their backordered pallets of ammo and be dumping them at wholesale pricing...same as always. This rush is no different than any other mass shooting or election. People get a bad case of FOMO and waste their money. I think after Sandy Hook I was selling AR's for like $2,000 that were going for like $700 prior to on GB...my only regret was not selling every gun I had at that time. Gun owners can either take lessons from the past or just keep wasting money...most seem content to waste money.

  15. Greg every time I've been to church I shake no less than 10 hands. I'm not sure the virus knows any difference between the beach and the church. Have you guys at least tried to spread people out in the pews and stop shaking hands? I think God would understand worshipping from the house. My mom's church has switched to an online service where the congregation watches from at home.

  16. Somebody better call Bill Lee then - he just closed schools through the 24th. No church wants to be like the one here in Nashville with 15 cases and counting. I’ll be the first to admit that I dearly miss our people - but pastorally don’t see how we can put them at risk. We’re having to get creative - and it’s less than ideal - but it’s the right thing to do.

  17. I get that at some point, we have to get the economy in gear again, and I understand once the risk level falls below a certain level, we're going to be rolling the dice for those most vulnerable whether they like it or not. That line is a philosophical question, fraught with moral complications...and it will almost certainly be against medical advice. But I'm still waiting to hear how we "get back to normal" if we haven't contained the spread of the virus. Lifting measures currently in place before that happens could just reset to where we were a few weeks ago, and we'd be right back to where we are now (or worse if we try to push through it) once contagion reasserts itself.

  18. I see a point rapidly approaching where the risk of starvation will be worse than the fear of a cold like virus. I do not operate a hotel chain, airline, or cruise line.

  19. Went to local Food City yesterday. Plenty of food, limit of 2 3# pkgs of ground chuck if you needed/wanted, steaks, plenty of veggies & fruit, frozen food picked over but not empty, milk, eggs no problem, no tp, bread ok. Limits on some things. Gas: $1.66.9 with .15 discount.

  21. I'm considered essential. I got 1 day of HR orientation. They gave me a laptop and sent me home after saying they would "train me the best they can"... And I can't even log into the laptop they gave me. At least I'm getting paid though.

  22. You are correct, there are people that cannot handle being confined to their small world. Depression is easy to succumb to. We need to look out for our older neighbors, church members etc.

  23. If I am out of line starting this thread, or if it offends anyone, that is not my intention and I apologize. If it it taken down, I understand. However, with the number of texts and calls I have received since it went public that my wife is positive and we are quarantined offering support and prayers, I thought a spot for members to post requests for prayers for friends and loved ones was in order. No names are required (I don’t want anyone breaking HIPAA laws) just prayer requests. I believe in the power of prayer.

  24. All the laws I've seen talk about Citizens and Permanent Residents. A conditional status does not grant you permanent residence. (Otherwise you wouldn't need to go back for another interview to get the conditional status removed, and a get a new and proper Permanent Residency card). You're more like a temporary resident until the conditional status is removed if your condition is satisfactory (for example, still married to a US citizen). Unfortunately, I don't have that temp card anymore, nor my first Green Card (which was pink I believe... the second was white, and the current is green). Still got the old I-688B though. Gawd, what a horrible picture. Not like the current one is any better though... Anyway, if you can't wait until the conditional status is removed, contact an attorney to find out for sure. But I'm reasonable sure that you'll have to wait.

  37. You will still need hearing protection with a 762 can, it will still be loud(er).
    1 point
  38. If it is already overgassed, I think you may have issues. Being that it is a 30 cal can on a 5.56 it will have a bit less pressure, but probably not enough to not cause issues. You will get a lot of blowback I would guess. I don't think you will hurt anything trying it though and see if it is tolerable. Or get something like a flaming pig to push the blast forward more.

  39. Read the article. It doesn't say what the headline claims it says. The FBI didn't "release a pro-2nd Amendment statement." It released a report on active shooter cases in 2016 and 2017. And it did so in 2018. Cheers, Whisper

  40. If you are in need of some brass case, this is pretty decent ammo at an fair price. I've ordered from these folks several times in the past. $230 shipped for case of 400, no tax. Its run well for me in AR's and AK's chambered for it, I'd call it on the low end of NATO charge window with my M1A short stroking a handful of times as it got dirty. https://www.armsunlimited.com/Magtech-CBC-762x51-M80-NATO-Ammo-147-Grain-FMJ-p/762a-fmj-case.htm

  41. Do people think this is going to be like the last ammo shortage where it persisted for a long time after things got back to semi-normal just because people were buying from FOMO? Also, is this a possible model for the TP situation?

  42. It would depend entirely what you may expect to encounter. Big, small, two legged critters? Arm for what's out there where you're going. Personally, I'd go with a good .357 or .44 caliber large frame revolver with a 4 to 6" barrel in a good OWB holster with a secure strap of some kind. Also, a long gun wouldn't be out of the question. They do make saddle scabbards ya know. But, as mentioned, make sure the horse is agreeable. It would be a real shame if you had to shoot, only to have the horse throw you and break your neck. Even if you dismounted first, at the very least, you'd probably be going home on foot. Horses ain't real fond of sudden loud noises. They tend to run away.

I have not been on this group nearly as long as many of you, but in short time I have been here I have met some great folks and feel I have gotten to know more just from reading posts. Everyone take care of yourselves and loved ones.
